Chapter Seventeen
I held my breath, standing with my back pressed as close to the wall as possible. The room was dark around me, making it hard to see. I held my gun to my chest, and waited. Suddenly I heard sirens, and I knew I had to make a run for it. Red flashing lights danced around the room, giving me just enough light to make it to a safer, hidden area. That's when I noticed him. Holding my gun out in front of me, as I pulled the trigger. The lights still flickered, and smoke filled up the room, making it more difficult to see where I was going. Suddenly I felt the vest I was wearing vibrate, indicating that I too had been shot. I couldn't contain my scream, or laughter, which made it easier for Jon to locate me. My brother darted around the corner, and shot me again right in front of me. I used the time I had, ignoring the vibration of my vest to shoot back, however the thirty second pause wouldn't allow it. Jon took off running, and I followed, watching the little red numbers on my gun counting down, when it did I held my gun out in front of me, and took another shot, knocking Jon's vest out. It was my turn to run and hide. Three trashcan barrels were my shield, as I crouched down behind them. Suddenly my vest buzzed again, Jon had come out of nowhere shooting at me. There was only fifteen seconds left of the game, with in the last few seconds, my vest lit back up and I took the opportunity to shoot at Jon one last time. Jon and I high fived each other, and headed out of the laser tag room, and into another room where you take off all your equipment. Jon had beaten me, but only by a point.
"So next on the list is that." Jon said, taking me to a window, and pointing out a red roller coaster track, a smile plastered on his face, "It'll be fun, let's go!" He said, taking my hand, and dragging me to the elevator door. My eyes widened, "I am not going on that!" I screeched, trying to pull away from my brother's firm grip on my hand.
"Yes we are, because I won, and there's nothing you can say or do to change my mind." Jon said with a smile on his face, dragging his sister to stand in line. Thankfully the line wasn't that bad. They would be next to board the yellow car. We sat somewhere in the middle, and I had to control my breathing, "We are going to fall out." I told Jon, but he just shook his head, "We will not fall out. It's going to be fun!" Jon tried to reassure his sister, but failed. The conductor came by checking everyone's safety vest, before giving instructions to the passengers. "I think I'm going to puke." Nikki said, her breathing picked up once the ride started, "Well don't do it on me." Jon said with a laugh. Nikki couldn't help but smile, and playfully slapped her brother. The ride took them through twist and turns, up and down, then all too soon came the big loop. Once they were upside down, they were held there, staring down to the ground. Nikki started to scream, "Jon, why did it stop. "Don't worry its part of the ride." Jon replied. Nikki whimpered, wanting nothing more than to be back on solid ground. The car started to rock back and forth while we were upside down. With each rock the car was jolted further and further down, until it plummeted to the bottom, only to be brought back up a giant hill. Nikki screamed through the rest of the ride. Feeling like forever until the ride stopped, Jon helped Nikki out of the car once the ride finished.
"So how was it?" Jon asked, as they walked to a restaurant.
"It was definitely an adrenaline rush for sure. I won't do it again though."
"That's what you say now, but just wait." Jon said, jokingly as he sat down at a table. The siblings waited for their order to be taken.
"What can I get for you two?" Nikki looked up at the waitress, and almost fell out of her seat.
"Oh my god, Alyssa?" Nikki asked. Alyssa looked down at her best friend, and smiled. "What are you doing here?"
"My brother and I are here for lunch. How have you been?" While the girls caught up, Jon's phone rang, he looked down to see who it was before answering it. "Hey Nikki, I have to go take this call. I'll be right back." Jon said, getting up, and walking away.
"I'm doing great actually. I got some assistance, and I got this job, so everything seems to be falling into place."
A few minutes later Jon came back with a smile on his face, "Who was that?" Nikki asked.
"Just a friend. Did you order yet?"
"Yeah, I ordered your favorite too." Just as Nikki mentioned what they ordered, their plates were served to them. They ate their food, and talked about the future, about the goals Jon had as Dean Ambrose, and then he asked something Nikki had been waiting to hear for a long time. "I'm leaving again tomorrow for a show in North Carolina, you want to go with us?" Jon asked.
"Seriously? Yes I do. I've been waiting for that invite for a long time. I hate being a lone at home. I don't like going out by myself, especially in Vegas. It's boring." Nikki said. They finished their food, and Jon paid the bill, and left a good tip for Alyssa before heading home.
Nikki walked ahead of Jon up to the apartment door, but when she saw the door was ajar she stopped in her tracks. "Jon, the door is open." Nikki warned her brother. Fear spread through her whole body, as Jon walked into the house, Nikki followed close behind him.
