Chapter one:
Kaoru's been pretty interested in a certain medicine.
Hikaru watches as his brother looks over a book before adding something to a bottle.
The kind of healer that Kaoru is into does healing that modern medicine doesn't turn to. They use special concoctions that are seen like witchcraft potions in order to help with things. These kind of healers are rare as it can get complicated and demanding. The kind of healing won't work if it isn't done right thus it takes a very specific person to do this kind of healing. There are so few that can manage it since the concoctions are so delicate in how it's made.
Though Hikaru knows that Kaoru can handle it all. He has full confidence in his twin. He knows that this is good since Hikaru himself is the one taking over the family business, so Kaoru has more freedom to pick his path. He already has a list of those that can look to see if they deem Kaoru worthy, then from there he can learn before going through a test to become an official healer. He will bring it up as soon as he thinks his twin is ready mentally for the entrance test.
The entrance test is just to prove that one can do it, even though about half of those that pass the entrance exams never make it past that point, to a certain point then they're a certified in training healer.
"That should do it." Kaoru stands up holding up the bottle. He does seem nervous though Hikaru heads over placing a hand on his brothers shoulder. He looks to him letting their eyes meet.
"You've got this. I know that you can do this." Hikaru encourages to which Kaoru takes a breath before nodding. He leads his brother to the room where everyone is waiting to give Kaoru space to work. He gently nudged Kaoru encouragingly.
Kaoru takes a breath before heading towards the bed where one of the maids is laying.
The maid is wheezing a bit as she tries to breathe despite the oxygen hooked up for her. She ended up finding a dangerous weed that popped up in the garden. She was on her break and not knowing the dangers she tried to get rid of it. She inhaled the rather potent pollen only to find herself with it trying to settle then grow inside her. She would have been euthanized if she was taken to the hospital.
The weeds pollen can let it's flowers grow anywhere if not dealt with correctly. It's an unsightly weed which has brought a lot of humans to try to get rid of it. It's just a consequence of human nature needing to get rid of unsightly weeds. This weed is so determined to live and sometimes take over parts of ecosystems.
Only healers can put an end to it... Their rarity makes it very difficult for that to happen however... So hospitals will go the euthanizing route instead. Usually those that aren't a healer that's certified as trained aren't trusted to help these things.
With no healer having lived anywhere close by or even in the city for a long time there's not much choice.
Either Kaoru tries or we all say goodbye to one of the maids that the twins had grown up with. He stops by her bedside and moves the oxygen to make sure there's a clear way inside. He helps her open her mouth since the trouble breathing makes her not be fully aware.
She definitely seems to just want to pass out already... Though she could stop breathing if she does that...
Kaoru follows the guide of the doctor that they had called to help get her to drink. He carefully pours the concoction into her mouth.
The maid swallows with some encouragement.
Hikaru smiles as it seems like it's getting easier the more that she drinks. He knows that it's a good sign that any plant parts are receding making it all easier.
It takes a minute or two though she manages to drink it all.
Kaoru and the doctor let her rest before waiting to see if it worked.
The maid starts breathing better and as she gets more air she blinks finding herself more awake.
Kaoru lets out a breath that he's actually managed to help. He turns as his mother happily rushes over hugging him.
"I knew you could do it!" Their mother cheers while the doctor checks over the maid as she grateful gulps in air.
Hikaru comes over sharing a smile with Kaoru. "Told you that you've got it." He confirms making Kaoru squirm from all this praise and attention.
"It's not much really." Kaoru tries to brush it off. "I just did what it needed me to do for such a potion."
"You have talent in this." The doctor comes over as the three turn to him while others, the twins father joining his family, are rejoicing at seeing the maid doing so much better. "I've never seen a non-trained healer manage such a concoction, sorry I guess they're supposed to be called potions, especially on the first attempt. Are you serious about going into this field? I'd highly recommend as you have some talent that I haven't heard about in a very long time."
"I want to do this." Kaoru confirms offering a slightly embarrassed smile. "I enjoy doing it a lot."
"Then I encourage you to do so. Take the entrance exam. I know you'll pass with flying colors." The doctor nods excusing himself then heads on his way since his services are no longer needed.
Kaoru glances to Hikaru again who nods encouragingly.
"I can start to reach out for someone to do the entrance exam." Hikaru offers to Kaoru. He knows that Kaoru will not be schooled as hard in their high school as other students while he works on his schooling to become a healer, though that is just fine as he enjoys letting his brother follow his interests.
"You've already made a list of those. Ordered by who you'll contact first." Kaoru points out with a rather knowing look at his twin who chuckles a little at basically being caught. He takes a breath before nodding. "Alright." He agrees brightening Hikaru's eyes at hearing his brothers response. He also has a sparkle in his own eyes despite being nervous. "There is something I do need ask of you though." He requests and he doesn't even need to say it.
Hikaru helps to untangle Kaoru from their mother's grasp that could kill if she's not careful.
Though she probably couldn't do it literally her grip makes it feel like she could very well could.
"Thank you." A croaked voice speaks once Kaoru once he is free from his mother.
Kaoru turns to look to a smiling maid that is still in bed as she'll need at least a days bedrest. He nods a don't worry about it with a smile then leaves the room with his twin before the others there try to swarm him with gratefulness.
Hikaru puts an arm around Kaoru as they walk away from there to down the hall. He is so glad that healers books can be bought, despite being expensive not that it's a problem for their family, which can help spark potential new healers. He's glad that they had no issues getting a copy since only so many are made thus making the price go up compared to other books.
Not many even want to follow this healing path so there wasn't really a demand for as many copies as most other books.
"When do you think that they'll be coming for the entrance exam?" Kaoru inquires to which Hikaru shrugs.
"Not sure. I have some contacting to do." Hikaru tells him not really caring who will end up being the one able to do the entrance exam. He knows that no one is able to do anything to make the chances of success higher for their own child.
This field is very serious business since if things go wrong then it could make things or bring about another illness to deal with. It is strictly forbidden, to the point of exile in the field if one takes any sort of bribes to help anyone. So it is avoided like the plague and those that do the tests for training and training completion are hardened professionals at turning away any kind of bribing.
It'll be all Kaoru's talent that will show that he is worthy.
Hikaru isn't worried since he's seen how skillful and focused Kaoru gets when he does this kind of thing.
Kaoru takes a breath. "I'll get to studying then. I should make sure that I'll know as many potions as I can so I'll be ready."
"You already healed your first human." Hikaru points out to his brother. "You'll do just fine."
"I hope you're right."
