I enjoyed making the oneshot, decided to make it into a book filled with fluff. :3 Couldn't decide which was better, so here's two little stories from Duncan's perspective. Enjoy!
Around his friends, he was quiet, subtle, and got work done. Around her, he was a hole new person.
Yes, he knew he was careless, and forgetful. However, she always looked out for him, even when he called her an idiot. She always tried so hard to please him, the scientist who had it all. He always responded with a chuckle when she gets confused out building something and then figuring out she was using the wrong ingredients entirely. It wasn't her progress of learning or the items she made for him that made him impressed. It was her stubbornness to get everything right, even if she would take a few days to figure it out. Her stubbornness helped him to get more sleep, to eat, to be a functional human being.
After all, the scientist who has it all still cannot claim himself to be a God.
He had nearly finished his machine, just needed to add a few more electro-bolts into the hardware, so the mainframe would charge and work faster, then the satellite would-
"You're muttering again."
Boom. The capacitator was in bits. The electro-bolts missed the hardware and hit the mainframe. The resources to build it were irreplaceable. He would never be able to get that again. He would have to start a new world if he had to-
"Duncan?"
He turned, seeing her sitting in the corner, looking a bit confused and sorry, despite her not knowing what she had done. He could tear mountains apart and still never find what he needed. It was truly gone. All his hard work, his research, his time and knowledge. Gone.
"Duncan, are you ok?"
She had her hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him. He stared at his hand, then slowly to her. He was fit to rip her to shreds. The mainframe and electro-bolts had a high frequency, so high it was very difficult to make a small piece of what was. He looked into her eyes, wanting to stab her there and then and watch as-
Her eyes. The flux had gotten nearer to her other eye. That eye was filled with pure fear, guilt and sadness. Despite this, she lifted his arms, and wraps hers around him, hugging him till the anger was replaced by sorrow. He wept and wept and let her hold him. He never knew how long he wept for.
He calmed down, as he always did, though usually after a lot more blood being spilt. She had fallen asleep in his arms, so he carried her up the stairs and into her bed.
He has truly found something irreplaceable.
