A/N: Sorry I took months to update, not going to lie, I left the story for sooo long that when I came back to it, I couldn't figure out what to write and every time I did, I erased it because I felt like it was missing something. But hey let's just call it 'writer's block'….oh wait that's a real thing. Okay enjoy the chapter, I think other shippers will be happy about this one.
~Just because you don't say much doesn't mean people don't notice you~
6: The hime-cut girl
"Hinata! I am so sorry but I can't stop, I'm late for class!" Sakura rushed through the halls unable to help the fallen girl and her notes.
"Was that Sakura?" Hinata grasped looking back to the ground "My notes! It's all jumbled up" looking quite confused, she scrambled through her work "Err…um this one…goes here, no that's not right. Oh no." What I'm I going to do? I'm pretty sure I have a pop-quiz soon.
Some of the students around watched the confused girl in pity and despite that, they walked away. Others were too busy with their own conversions to notice Hinata on the ground and some just didn't care but Hinata Hyuga did, and so she tried not to look up. In fact, it was a lot easier for her to pretend that people weren't around so she'd feel like that's the reason no one offered to help her, but when it really came down to it Hinata was very used to doing things on her own. "There it is!" Her short arm went to reach a piece of paper until someone's hand caught it first. Hinata slowly glanced up to see Naruto Uzumaki kneeling her way. "Na-na-ruto?"
"What's up Hinata?" he said smiling.
"Naruto! Umm…nothing" she turned away in shyness. What is he doing here? If I face him I'll go all red!
"Earth to Hinata? Are you listening to me?"
"Huh?" Hinata came out of her thoughts. "Oh…my notes…floor. I have a pop quiz so I – I'm sorting it out"
He grabbed the notes around him "Well I'll help you then. I supposedly went on a 'toilet break' anyway hehe".
"Um…okay". As they attempted to sort out the notes in alphabetical order, Hinata tried to avoid all eye contact – which was weird because she felt safe around him. She had always known that Naruto would steal her heart first, it was love at first sight and she highly wanted Naruto to be her last.
Why does she keep facing the other way? Hmm it's annoying but I'll try not to dwell on it. Naruto looked around the hall and noticed something a bit strange "Hey y-know it's kind of odd that no-one bothered to help you"
"I know"
He was taken aback by her comment "How do you mean?"
A sadden face came over her "Shy. Weird. Quiet." Hinata stopped gathering her notes "That's what people say about me, it's because I don't say much that people don't notice me." Naruto flinched on her words. "It's okay though, I don't mind being alone" She turned his way and gave a small but fake smile, her body language telling the same.
"Who said it? Who said that to you?" he held a piece of paper tightly, making it crease.
"Girls tend to gossip in the toilets, they assume no one is going to hear"
Although Naruto was a little shock, he somehow felt some truth in the gossip but at the same time he knew something else "Here Hinata, all done!" The two got up from the ground when Naruto's blue encrusted eyes caught her attention "Y'know Hinata, you're not alone. If you were, you wouldn't have me."
Hinata blushed instantly and placed her notes into her school bag, she clutched the handle firmly "What do you mean?"
"We're friends aren't we?"
She froze abruptly. Why…why would he say that? "We are? But I'm not like you Sasuke, Sakura and Ino. We are not close; we don't 'hang out'. We are more acquaintances, aren't we? I…I don't…don't want to be your f-friend"
"Hey calm down! This is why people call you weird."
Hinata took a step back from Naruto.
"Hinata?"
Does Naruto hold the same views as those girls?
The girl with the 'princess shaped' hair started to panic, this was why didn't want to be around Naruto, because her heart would act uncontrollably on its own – it would beat on his every word – good or bad. Hinata took another step back "Is that what you really think?"
Shit! The blonde boy instantly regretted his choice of words. What was he thinking? Telling a sensitive girl what she didn't want to hear; repeating what she believes is true about herself is just wrong. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean it like that, honestly. I just thought the way identified a 'friend' was a bit weird". Naruto took a step in and placed a hand on her left shoulder "A 'friend' is who you have fun with, the ones that care about you. You don't have to 'hang out' to be friends. Besides aren't you close with Kiba and Shino? You get along with Ino too and Choji -"
"My cousin Neji" Hinata carried on Naruto's list, she thought back to what Naruto said and in all fairness he was right, she loved being around (well as around as she could be) these people and whether it was because they made her laugh or because she felt comfortable around them , it didn't matter. Even if she had a hard time being around people, it didn't mean they weren't there.
"Don't forget about Naruto Uzumaki! Your number one!" Naruto said trying to 'big' himself up. Hinata chuckled at his statement until his right palm landed on her head "So stop looking so down all the time" he ruffled her head slowly "Just because you don't say much, doesn't mean no one will notice you".
Her eyes glistened, becoming watery and in this moment she stole a hug from Naruto and whispered in his ears "Thank you"
"Ah… your welcome! But what for?"
"For being you" she said in a soft tone.
Naruto was shocked he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Was he seeing a different Hinata? He couldn't tell but he did realise something. Wow she smells nice. He exhaled. This is odd, never once did I think I would run into Hinata today but I kind of like it, hopefully we can be like this more often. The two separated and Naruto suddenly felt something was off. Then it hit him, "Wait, did we just have a full blown conversation and a hug that didn't ended up with you freaking out on me? Haha that's pretty funny" Naruto giggled away as Hinata suddenly became silent - aware of what he just said.
A gush of red appeared visible on Hinata's cheeks. She was acting weak again, like she couldn't control her actions, fidgeting with her fingers, looking down and up until she reverted to her usual self. "I…um…Na-ru-to, this was nice. Bye!" That was it; in a flash Hinata was gone, hiding behind a corner trying to calm herself down. She fanned her face with her hands so she wouldn't be soo red. You know, she really does love him and Naruto couldn't be more oblivious.
"Hinata! Where are you…..going?" he sighed "Well that didn't last. Did it?" and walked off to his locker.
A/N: Aww bless Hinata.
