Chapter 12: Meeting the Black Family
Jacob
Damn it! My family picks today to come and visit me! And what's worse is they just poof in here without notifying me. I mean I could've very well been taking a shower –with Nessie– and they just walked into the house.
Don't get me wrong, it was great to see my family again. I mean it's been almost a year since I've seen them so I couldn't be entirely mad.
My family was the best at the end of the day. Even if they're the most annoying and embarrassing people out there, they mean well and that's all I could ask for in a family.
"Oh your girlfriend that you told us about…?" Billy asked as he broke the awkward silence. I don't know I just blurted it out but I couldn't help it. I wanted the whole world that Nessie was mine. My Nessie
"Oh my baby's growing up!" Aunt Sue said wiping a fake tear off her cheek. I just rolled my eyes and moved my face so it was in contact with Renesmee's hair. I know I'm about to get the longest speech of the century.
"You know Jacob honey, your mother and I were great friends when you and your sisters were and now that she isn't with us. I may not be your mother but I know how she'd be feeling right now. She didn't get to see you grow up into the wonderful man you are today, I know she's smiling down at you and so proud and happy that you found your own happiness." She said emotionally as she gave Renesmee and I a little rub of the shoulder and smiling at us. I gave her a small smile.
"Thank you Aunt Sue." I said to my aunt.
Sue wasn't exactly my aunt actually, she was actually Seth's mother but she's been there almost my whole life that it just came naturally to call her my aunt. She was more than that, the moment I needed a mother Sue was always there for my sisters and me. Whenever we wanted food, she was always there to supply us some, whenever we got injured like a blister or something, she was there to heal us. Since my father couldn't do most of the parental things around the house –since he's tied down to a wheelchair– Sue was there to help out. Sue was like our second mother so to say.
"Oh hush up Sue. I don't want you getting all mushy on this little rascal. I'm still surprised he didn't even call to check up on his ole man for the past two weeks but I see he has been too preoccupied with some stuff." Billy said staring at Renesmee who was now blushing. You embarrass me and then drag my own girlfriend down too?!
"Dad…"
He was being crazy right now.
"I'm just saying son, I might not be around for much longer since I've been tied down to this ole lump so I thought of a perfect solution." He said. Uh oh! I don't like where this is going.
"Which is?"
"I've decided I'm relocating here." He said with a triumphant smile. My eyes bulged widely. Are you kidding me?
"Papa bear strike again!" Paul chuckled. I growled.
"It's a great idea. Which is why…," He said taking a pause as he rolled over to the door and came back with a suitcase. "I'm staying over!"
"Whoa dad, don't get in over your head right now." I said with a nervous chuckle as I took his suitcase and placed it behind the couch. "As much as I'd love for you to stay over I've got other things in life to take care of. And I'm even sure you're going to be around for a very long time, don't go all crazy." I said with a laugh. He sighed.
"You're right son. It's clearly visible that you don't need your ole paps reigning in your life right now." He said sadly. I lifted my hands to my cover my face. Did he have to say that?
"Come on dad, he didn't mean it in that way it's just…he wants some space for a while. Of course he loves you but you can see his creating a life of his own and that's all you wanted for him right?" Rachel saved the day. I should make a mental not to thank her later.
My dad moved his eyes onto Renesmee then me then back at her and nodded in understanding.
"I'm happy for you, son," He said lifting his hand so it was in contact with my shoulder. I smiled at him. That's when we heard a cry of a baby ring around the house.
"Uh babe, Daniel's acting up again!" Paul said as he picked rubbed my nephew's back as he was placed in the baby carrier. Rachel then ran to the baby duffel bag and took out a bottle of milk.
"Shoot, I forgot to heat it up." Rachel said sadly. That was when a very small girl came running up towards her gripping her shirt.
"Mama, mama, I need the little mermaid dolly!" The little girl cried out.
I haven't seen little Daisy for almost a year now and I was surprised the four years old grew up like a weed since then.
"Not now sweetie!" Rachel said. "Why don't you go over to Uncle Jake, you remember him right?" She said. Daisy pouted as she slowly moved her eyes to her mom and at me. Her eyes widened and a huge grin crept up her face.
"Uncle Jaker Ronnie!" Daisy said loudly running towards me. I smiled as I lifted her swiftly off the ground.
"Hey Daisy," I smiled. "Wow, look at you! You've grown up so fast!" I said. She smiled widely.
"I turn four last day!"
"She means last month!" Rachel laughed looking through the bag.
"I'm sorry I missed it!" I said to Daisy.
"It okay, there's always next year!" She said with a smile. I smiled back. I couldn't help but notice Renesmee was awfully quiet throughout all of this. I didn't know why, maybe she was just shy. Same thing happened with Rosie when I saw her walking up to Renesmee and hiding behind her back. It's funny how her attitude changed so quickly.
"Hey Jake, can you heat up Danny's bottle for me?" Rachel asked bringing my sense back. I nodded.
"Sure,"
"It's okay, I can do it," Renesmee insisted. I gave her a small smile.
"Oh thank you darling. Being a mother sort of makes you forget a lot of things don't it?" Rachel said referring to the fact she forgot to heat up to milk. Renesmee chuckled lowly.
"Been there done that." She said with her signature crooked smile that I loved so much. Rachel laughed and noticed Rosie hiding behind Renesmee.
"Hello there, baby girl, who might you, be?" Rachel asked sweetly. Rosie shied away from her gaze slightly.
"Sorry, she isn't quite open to meeting new people." Renesmee said with an apologetic smile. Rachel smiled and nodded understandingly.
"Maybe a new friend can change that." She began. "Hey Daisy, you want to meet a new friend?"
"New friend?" daisy asked getting quite excited. Rachel nodded and told me to place her down. I obliged and we watched Daisy walk up to we Rosie stood with her mother. "I'm Daisy." She introduced herself extending her hand. Rosie slowly lifted her head so she could look at Renesmee who nodded at her. Rosie then slowly stepped away from Renesmee to face Daisy. She stared at her hand before extending her own.
"Rosie," She whispered.
"You wanna play dress-up with me? Or do you want to play pin the tail on daddy?"
"What's that?" Rosie asked. It was nice to see Rosie finally opening up to Daisy, I can foresee and beautiful friendship between the two.
"We pin the tail on my daddy over there and when we do, he chases us around!" She said motioning to Paul who groaned lowly. I couldn't help but laugh.
I never pictured Paul with my sister let alone playing pin the tail with their daughter. It was funny how things worked out at the end.
Rosie giggled lowly and then the two little girls were off in a flash as they ran to the living room to play dress-up.
"Well what an amazing turns of events," I said walking over to Renesmee and wrapping my arm around her waist. She giggled.
"Yeah," She replied. "I'm just going to heat that bottle up for you."
"I'll help," I said to her. She smiled and we were off to the kitchen.
"I knew they'd love you immediately." I said to her as we reached the kitchen and she put the bottle in the microwave setting it at one minute. I took a seat on the kitchen counter chunking down an apple.
"You think they do?" She asked.
"Hell yeah, I've never seen my dad this happy seeing one of…I mean you first." I said trying to save myself. I never told Renesmee about my past ex girlfriends and I wasn't planning on to.
"You're dad's awesome." She said.
"Oh really now, your calling the man who embarrassed me from the day I was born awesome?" I asked. She giggled.
"Don't all parents do that? I think it's genetic I guess, remember when you met my parents?" She reminded me. I chuckled. Her dad hated me. Good times.
"But it was your uncle I was actually worried about." I told her.
"Emmett is quite awesome once you get to know him…and way more embarrassing then my dad. There was this one time he break-danced in a Speedo at my high school graduation party."
"That must've been rough for you." I said sadly. She giggled.
"I was scarred for life! But he's awesome when all's fair." She said. I smiled. "Uh just out of curiosity. Why haven't you told me about your past?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean like…how many girls you've dated and you know…when you lost you're… yeah." She said awkwardly. I knew what she was trying to say. She was asking when and who I lost my virginity to. Well what an awkward conversation booster.
"Um…I never thought of that because you're the only girl that's on my mind." I said pulling her softly by the arm so she came into me. She smiled perkily up at me as I leaned down for a kiss. It was stopped when we heard sounds of equipment collapsing and Erica and Embry entering the room as they fixed their clothes and hairs. Wait! Did Erica and Embry just have sex in my food closet?
"Oh hey guys! How are y'all doing?" Erica asked casually. Renesmee frowned at her best friend.
"Good…" Renesmee said. Erica and Embry smiled at us.
"Oh my god Embry, I didn't see you there!" Erica said sounding astounded to see him. He had the same expression.
"Gee! Wow! What a small world I mean I-I did-didn't know you even existed," He said with a small chuckle. Erica laughed but narrowed her eyes at him slightly. It immediately went into deep awkward silence before Erica broke it.
"Oh my god is that chocolate?!" She exclaimed as she saw a bar of chocolate on top of the fridge and began devouring it religiously.
"I'll just give this to Rach." Renesmee informed motioning to the bottle and leaving the room.
"Anywho… the family is here." I told Embry trying to get the disgusting thought of Erica and Embry out of my head.
"Wait. Do you mean the gang or do you mean your dad, Sue and your sisters?" He asked. I gave him a weak smile. "Holy cow, I can't step foot in there."
"What why?" I asked.
"Because, Sue is going to scold me for me being 'untidy',"
"I wonder why?" I teased. He threw me the daggers.
"You're so incongruous Jake." He said.
"Don't you dare throw the big word card, I'm warning you!" I seethed. He rolled his eyes.
"Embry Call!" Sue's voice ringed in the room. Embry's eyes widened. Uh oh! Your head dude.
… …
The woman prepared lunch for us all earlier and now we were all currently eating lunch at the dining table outside since it was kind of sunny today and having small talk just catching up with each other's lives and getting to know Renesmee.
"So you're from here right?" Rach asked Renesmee. She nodded slightly.
"Yes. But I was born in Idaho but relocated to Forks Washington for five years and moved here."
"So you move around a lot huh, I think Jake needs that in a girl if you know what I'm saying." Paul laughed nudging me by the shoulder. I glared at him.
"So you two are living together now right?" Billy asked changing the subject. I nodded.
"Yeah, after some recent events, I asked her to move in with me and she made me the happiest man by saying yes." I said smiling at Renesmee who was blushing. Rach and Sue 'awed' in response.
"That's good son. You know I was actually expecting you to go on a different path all those years ago." Billy said with a chuckle. Oh he did not just go there.
"What path?" Renesmee asked.
"Well Jacob here and my daughter Leah were in quite a series relationship back then," Sue said with a light laugh as she reminisced. I signaled for her to keep quiet.
"Yeah, it literally got to a point where they both always made out in front of us that it got really disgusting." Embry laughed. "And they were all lovey dovey like 'ooh we're going to get married and have children someday'" Oh no.
"Huh," Renesmee said and turning to look at me. I laughed nervously.
"He's just joking, we were like seven." I said.
"Technically seventeen, actually, it was like five months before college when you guys said that before your breakup." Rachel said.
"It wasn't really that serious." I said to Renesmee.
"Actually it was. You both moved in together." Paul said. "You even got her a ring-"
"Okay I think we get it Paul!" I exclaimed. Renesmee looked a little pissed and awkward throughout the entire conversation. Great! This was totally not a day to spend a Saturday afternoon.
"Anyway, it's nice to see that you're happy now after what happened." Billy said changing the subject. Although really bad timing!
"What do you mean?" Renesmee asked. "What happened?" She asked turning to face me.
"You didn't tell her?"
"Tell me what?" Renesmee questioned. "What haven't you told me Jacob?" She asked.
I had a lot of explaining to do…
… …
Renesmee
I was in Jacob's room lying on the bed after what he told me. I couldn't believe this happened to him. But I could only think of one possible thing…no person who could've created all of this mess.
Riley…
Flashback: To one hour ago
Jacob excused us from the table and we walked back into the house so that he could tell me. I crossed my arms as I waited for his explanation.
"Look Ness, I know I should've told you sooner but-"
"Just tell me Jacob." I said a little annoyed. He sighed and took a deep breath before beginning.
"About a couple of days ago, when I got the call from the sheriff, I was expecting that call to be the promotion he announced to the team before his retirement but turns out the call wasn't exactly what I was expecting." He said with a sigh.
"What was it then?" I asked in dread. He looked me in the eyes and shaking his head.
"His holding a case for impingement..." He said. I frowned. What did he mean by that?
"What does that mean?"
"I may or may not get fired from my job."
Shock went through me like a thousand light waves of electricity. Jacob fired? That's impossible! How could the sherrif do such a thing! He's one of the nicest and most sweetest policeman I knew -behind Jacob of course- and I knew he wouldn't do such a thing to the most dedicated man for the job like Jacob!
This is totally messed up! Jacob wouldn't do anything wrong to get him fired. There's really something fishy with this situation.
After asking Jacob on how he received this 'impingement' and he told me something about two cases not being fulfilled. Only two cases? I've known of cops not fulfilling a series of cases and not being fired.
But I realized I didn't need to ask all these questions because I already had the answers to them...Riley...
He was not bluffing about sabotaging Jacobs reputation.
"I take away everything and anything that he loves and belonging to him"
This was all Riley's doing! He was exactly the person who'd do this to Jacob. But my question is, why? I mean, drag me down the mud but please don't drag the people I love down with me!
I had to fix this and fast!
End of flashback
Jacob didn't deserve any of this, Jake is too perfect to be in a mess like this...caused by me.
The knock on the door brought me back to my senses. I looked to see Jacob standing by the door.
"Hey," I murmured.
He walked up to me and lay on the bed with me. I moved to the other side so he could fit properly and I lay my head on his chest.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
"It's not me I'm worried about." I replied. He sighed.
"I'm fine Renesmee,"
"How could this happen to you Jake? I mean you're really devoted to your work...you're too perfect for that to happen to you." I said.
"You know, I'm not as perfect as you think babe. I've made lots of bad choices in the past,"
"Like what?" I asked with a small laugh. I couldn't believe Jacob's life wasn't as great as I thought it was.
"Like how I've been influenced in drugs and alcohol as a teen and how I lost my virginity at 16." He said with a long sigh. My eyes widened. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!
He chuckled.
"Yeah, your perfect Jacob isn't so perfect after all." He said. I could see he didn't want to talk about it any more so I decided to change the subject.
"You're family are the best,"
"Yeah thanks, they're the best when I don't have anything new but when I have a new girlfriend they're just nightmares." He said.
"Oh stop! They're not that bad. They just love you a lot."
"I wish they could love me a little less."
I smiled.
"You're too cute." I said.
Jacob and I had a short conversation for like five minutes before I found myself falling asleep on his warm chest.
I woke up when I heard voices entering the room. I opened my eyes slightly to see Rachel entering the room.
"Is she sleeping?" Rach asked.
"Yeah," Jacob replied.
"Today was fun." Rachel said to her brother.
"Yeah sure, that was until dad ruined the moement." Jake said with a scoff. I could tell he was rolling his eyes.
"You know, dad was just trying to be a father you know. He just wanted to see his son happy," She said.
"Yeah but he didn't have to break it out like that. I wanted to tell her at the right time but dad just had to budge in like he always does."
"You'll understand when you're a father some day," Rachel said. "Anyway, Renesmee is a great girl. She's a keeper,"
"I know right, she's amazing..." He answered. I could feel his eyes staring down at me.
"Anyway, I think we're about to leave the nest. It was great seeing you again little bro,"
"Sure sure Rach." He replied. Then I heard the door shut. "You can stop pretending to sleep Ness,"
I laughed.
… …
I walked into the large room. The room that was filled with the scent of serenity and peace. I stared at the spotless tiled floor, and the rails on either ends.
I walked in the very empty space and stood in front of the shining son glowing through the window. I stared at my reflection in front of the large mirrors.
The dance studio was the one place I could relieve and release my blinding mind. All the stress that I've had for the week all vanished as I dance to the contemporary music.
I've been neglecting it for quite a while these past months because I've been so caught up. The studio was the one place I could just relax and take my mind off of everything.
"So this is your perfect hide out huh," I heard a voice echo into the room. I looked up at the door to see Jacob standing with his arms crossed and smiling at me.
"How did you find me?" I asked.
"Let's just say the land rover following your tail kinda stole it away."
My eyes widened.
"It was you?" I asked. He nodded and chuckled as he entered the room. "Well I'm glad you came but you shouldn't be here."
"And why is that?" He asked.
"Because I'm not even allowed to be here on a sunday." I giggled as I switched the stereo off. He smiled.
"I guess we both break the rules." He replied as he stood in front of me. I couldn't help but blush at his grin. "Why did you stop because I think you're amazing?"
"Oh no, that wasn't really me, it was just...yeah" I chuckled embarrassedly. He held me my hands.
"Why don't we head for some breakfast?" He suggested. I nodded.
"Thank god, I'm starvi-"
"Uh uh...but first why don't you show me exactly what you got." He stated. I rolled my eyes and moved to the dance floor and started dancing to my boyfriend...
I just love him...
