Feelings of Betrayal

Chapter 6- The Unholy Disaster

An entire week had passed since then.

Amy and Shadow were still working actively to try and get Tails out of his unconscious state, but unfortunately, they had no such luck.

"I know he's still alive! I just KNOW he can't be dead, Shadow! What are we gonna do?!" Amy panicked, turning to Shadow for any advice. She was desperate to bring Sonic's friend back from his unconscious state.

"Amy...what can we do? We've been trying for a week now. I think it would be best to let Tails' body deal with it. After all, he is still breathing, correct?" Shadow asked, trying to comfort her.

"Yes...he's still breathing...I just...can't stand to see him in such a tragic state! What'd Eggman do to him?! When I get my hands on that spineless scientist, I swear I'm gonna throttle him!"

"Amy, calm down, please!" Shadow declared. "We'll find Eggman, and when we do, I'll make sure you throttle him like he's never been throttled before. Okay?"

"Yes, Shadow..." Amy said, attempting to calm herself down. However, what she didn't know was that something big was going to occur very soon.

Meanwhile, Eggman and Sonic were in their laboratory, waiting for the moment their ultimate weapon would be ready to be unleashed. Taking advantage of the time at hand, the putridly pernicious pair started plotting on where to fire their laser of ultimate destruction.

"If we shot it around the Chemical Plant," Eggman pondered, "it would cause an explosive reaction that could nearly kill everyone! Then, those pathetic heroes would be NO MORE!"

"True," Sonic replied, "BUT...if we fired at the Master Emerald, it would absorb the powers of the beam, and once we had it in our possession...we could break the Emerald, releasing the beam in a state 10 Times more powerful than its original form!"

"Sonic, that's brilliant!"

"Why, thank you Master. Once my plan has been put into action, those hilariously horrendous protagonists shall be gone forever!"

"Wait! I just thought of something!," Eggman said, interrupting his new apprentice. "What if we combined our ideas into one?"

"Yeah? How would that work?" Sonic replied.

"Okay, so if we, and by we, I mean you of course, built a machine to amplify the blast radius of the laser, then it could hit the ground, causing a destructive reaction, producing a near-nuclear explosion that would destroy the heroes on ground and above ground!"

"BRILLIANT!" Sonic exclaimed, and just as Eggman's plan was declared, the Destructicannon let out a *DING!* sound, signaling the cannon was ready to fire. However, for Sonic and Eggman, this sound...meant so much more. The sound unleashed a grin upon Eggman's aging, mostly bald face. A grin so menacing, it could scare off Eggman's Badnik Fleet (If Sonic hadn't destroyed it in the Prologue). A grin so diabolical, it urged Sonic to build the Destructicannon's amplifier ASAP. And so, he built the amplifier in 3 seconds flat, nearly knocking Eggman off his feet with a burst of wind in the process.

"Excellent work, Sonic...Now, to continue on with our master plan..." And with that, Eggman and Sonic went to the top of their lair, bringing the Destructicannon and the unconscious Knuckles up with them. As they went up on their Eggmobiles, the sky slowly but surely began fading to a grim shade of blood-red, as if Mobius was aware of the destruction to come.

"I can't believe it..." Eggman thought to himself. "Of all the people to come up with a foolproof, unstoppable plan...it was my former archnemesis, the hedgehog...Wow...And thanks to him...Mobius will be ours...no, scratch that...it will be MINE. ALLLL MINE! Sonic may have developed the plan, but after we fire the Destructicannon...I'll kill off that hedgehog once and for all! MAHAHAHAHAAAA!"

Unaware of what was going to happen to him, Sonic still went along with his master's plan. "Is this a good spot to place the cannon, Master Eggman?" Sonic asked.

"Perfect, Sonic...just divine." Eggman replied, holding back yet another maniacal cackle.

"Alright! Now, master...ready to give your generic evil monolog-ER, I mean...ready to give your speech?"

"Yes, Sonic...I'm ready...Heh heh heh..." And with that, Eggman grabbed his megaphone out of his Eggmobile and prepared for his tyrannical takeover of Mobius. "CITIZENS OF MOBIUS, LISTEN UP!"

"Huh? Was that...Eggman?" Shadow asked curiously, walking outside to see just what the heck was going on. Sure enough...Eggman was out there, atop his lair with Sonic.

"AND MAKE SURE YOU LISTEN GOOD, 'CAUSE WE'RE ONLY GONNA SAY THIS ONCE!" Sonic added, which was followed by a displeased look from Eggman.

"SONIC?!" Shadow yelled in shock. "W-what the hell are you doing with Eggman?!"

"Shadow, isn't it obvious?" Sonic replied. "I've joined the winning team! Soon you, and all your measly friends will die! MWAHAHAHA!"

"S-S-Sonic?..." Amy whimpered, overhearing the conversation. "What did Eggman do to you?!"

"Sonic...Sonic this, Sonic that, BLAH BLAH BLAH! Sonic, can we PLEASE get on with our plan?!" Eggman yelled, annoyed.

"Yes...yes, master." Sonic then silently walked behind the cannon, ready to fire.

"Okay...Now then, if I can please continue with my speech...COWER IN FEAR, FOR I HAVE NOT ONLY ENSLAVED THE HERO OF THIS PLANET, BUT I ALSO HAVE AN ULTIMATE WEAPON!"

"And don't think he'll refrain from using it!" Sonic added.

"And just to give you fools a demonstration of what's to come...we're going to demonstrate by blasting Knuckles into oblivion, with our new-and-devastatingly improved Destructicannon!"

"Knuckles?" A voice was heard from behind Amy, finally awakening from his week-long slumber. It was none other than Miles 'Tails' Prower, coming back at just the right time. However, at the time, nobody had noticed.

"With this weapon, it's really quite simple." Eggman explained. "You fire it, and the laser beam from within it starts gnawing at the flesh, digesting it inch by inch until naught but a skeleton remains. The skeleton usually ends up disintegrating,the blood spilling atop the ashes, and the victim's muscles usually end up disintegrating as well, and then...Boom. He's dead. Now, Sonic...ready to show it in action?"

"With pleasure," Sonic replied. "I've got nothing to lose...my best friend is dead...I found out about my dark secrets and all that...can't get much worse than that. So, in short...yes. I'm ready."

"That's a good lad...Now hurry up and fire the damn thing!" Eggman ordered.

"Okay, then. 3...2...1..."

And then, the voice from behind Amy spoke again, this time loud enough so everyone heard him: "SONIC, STOP!"

Everyone turned around, and saw Tails, alive and kicking once again.

"TAILS?!" Everyone yelled in unison.

"Tails...you're alive...Oh, thank god you're alive!" Sonic said, relieved.

"Sonic, you've got to stop this RIGHT NOW!" Tails demanded. "You can't let Knuckles die like this! I mean, his flesh being digested bit by bit?! Eeugh! You've got to put a stop to this, Sonic! Remember who you are! You're the Blue Blur! You're practically known for never letting your friends die at the face of danger, and yet, here you are, about to kill Knuckles..."

"Oh, just SHUT UP, TAILS!" Eggman yelled at the kitsune. "Sonic's made his choice! He wants to be on my side. Now, let him embrace that choice! After all, you did say, you wanted to join me, Sonic." The insane scientist slowly turned to Sonic before saying, "That is what you said, right, Sonic?"

Sonic had to make a choice. Would he stick with his word and continue working for Eggman, or would he return to the side he knows and loves? He then made the choice, and...

Nah, I'm just messin' with ya. I've made enough cliffhangers already.

..."You're right, Eggman. I've made a choice..." Sonic replied.

"Sonic, NO!" Tails yelled.

"And now...I'm making ANOTHER one!" Sonic then jumped into the air, out of the seat of the Destructicannon, and landed on top of Eggman's head, knocking the glasses off of his former master's bald head.

"GRAAAAH! NO! This can't be happening!" Eggman yelled. "Y-you betrayed me?!"

"Exactly, Egghead. In fact, this was all part of my plan! I may have killed my father and all that, but still, I am Sonic the Hedgehog! I do NOT dwell on the past! I'm always looking for a new adventure, and this one's...been quite the slow one."

"So, if I have this straight...You planned ALL of this?"

"Exactly, Egghead! After you pointed out that phony flaw in my story...smiling from my father's death?! What kind of sick creep would come up with that?!...about my past, I joined you, just to see what it was like. While doing so, I made sure to kill all your little Badniks as well as Orbot, and while waiting for the Destructicannon to recharge after you shot Tails with it, I made a few...modifications. I removed the kill code, turning it back into a regular cannon. So, now...your 'perfect plan' is falling apart, am I right?"

"I...I...well, you see...It all...Err...URK!...Sonic...why...JUST WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!"

"Who do I think I am? Well, I'm Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog, and I take orders from no nemesis of mine!"

"You're messing with my mind...WHO DOES THAT?!...Grrrrrr..." Eggman was FURIOUS with his nemesis, even more so than when Sonic destroyed all of his Badniks. He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth in frustration, and slowly inched towards the hedgehog, ready to throttle him.

"Sonic? I think you broke Eggman..." Shadow said gently.

"Out of all of the low down, dirty tricks I've been put through...I finally think I've got a friend in the son of my former best friend...But NOOOOOO! The second I turn my back, the teenage twat decides to pull a betrayal out his arse, and...GRAAAAAAH!" The deranged scientist then tackled Sonic, attempting to find the kill code.

"Holy crap, Eggman! What's your deal?!" Tails asked, furious with Eggman.

"If I can't kill everyone else on Mobius with Sonic by my side...I MIGHT AS WELL KILL THE ONE PEST WHO KEEPS PREVENTING ME FROM DOING SO!" Eggman yelled, finally finding the kill code, and snatching from the blue protagonist.

"Eggman, DON'T!" Sonic yelled, but nothing was going to stop Eggman this time.

"HERE'S TO MILES TAILS PROWER, the one misplaced cog jamming all the gears of my BRILLIANT plan! GOODBYE FOREVER, TAILS!" Eggman attached the amplifier to the Destructicannon, maxing it out at full power. All the targets were lined up, and Eggman fired the cannon. The charged laser burst out of the cannon, and...

"NO, EGGMAN! I WON'T LET YOU DO THIS!" Sonic jumped in front of the laser, defending Tails with his soon-to-be last breath.

"Sonic, NO!" Tails cried out, appalled by what was happening before him. Sonic had defended him with all his might, and sacrificed himself for his best buddy.

"T-Tails..." Sonic said in a raspy tone, similar to the one he disguised his voice with when he joined Eggman. "...I just want you to know...stay strong...fight for freedom, and justice...and don't forget...I...love you, buddy..." with his dying breath, Sonic collapsed, surprisingly enough, not turning into a pile of ash and blood like Eggman predicted, but rather, his dead carcass just laying there, coming to a halt for the rest of time.

"Sonic...no..." Tails was horrified. His best pal...the one who helped him for as long as he could remember...was gone. Everyone else was devastated as well. From Shadow, to Knuckles, to Amy...everyone there was traumatized by the sight they had just witnessed. Nobody except Tails knew what the heck Sonic was going on about 2 minutes before, and now...he was suddenly gone.

"That...wasn't supposed to happen." Eggman slowly muttered. "But, either way you slice it...It's all over! With the Destructicannon by my side, and with my archnemesis finally slaughtered, I HAVE FINALLY WON! YESSSSSSS!"

"Sonic...No..."

So, yeah. Hope this wasn't too dark, but hey. This was the main reason I rated this fanfic M. I've also decided to break this story into two segments. And as for this segment...well, it's almost done. See you guys at the Part I Epilogue/Intermission, which will be titled: Darkness Arises.- The RayFox

P.S. Also, for those of you who are a bit confused, yes, Sonic was never truly evil. We all know the real Sonic, and I know he never dwells on the past, and he stays loyal to his friends. He's always looking for new adventures to go on, and decided to play along with Eggman's "mind games." Anyway...see you next part!
