R&R

"Going out?" Jay Garrick asked, spotting Crystal slipping her shoes on by the door.

"Yeah, the League needs to see me real fast." She answered him with a smile.

"Don't forget about the party tonight!" Mary, Wally's mom, told her with a smile, with Joan Garrick.

Crystal stood up, looking behind her at their small group of family and friends. "How could I forget about that?" She laughed.

"Make sure you drag Wally back with you." Rudy said, smiling at her over his newspaper.

"I don't think I'll have to drag him the second he finds out there's food." She laughed, giving them one last wave. "I'll remind Barry about the party just in case too!"

"Stay safe!" Mary said, hugging her close.

Crystal smiled, happy for the hugs she always receives as a goodbye, even if it was only for a few hours. "I will. It's Wally we have to worry about."

"I wish you two would just get married already," She said with a sigh, putting a hand to her cheek in the imagination of their wedding.

"Just remember we're 18." Crystal laughed.

"Exactly! Old enough to get married!" She said as if it made all the sense in the world.

Crystal shook her head slightly as she laughed, giving a wave to them and walking out the door. It wasn't much of a drive to the cave, so she took the longer way through the city to make sure all the rebuilding was going well. The attack with Nightmare had made it hard on the whole city, but everyone was pitching in together to create the city again.

About two weeks had passed since the attack, and it didn't seem to faze anyone now that he was gone. The West's were adamant about throwing her a party, and though she argued against it, they kept pushing and giving excuses that it was Wally's graduation party too since he was now out of high school. Crystal finally had agreed to it, but it wasn't something she really wanted. A birthday was never good for her in her life, and she always spent it alone.

"Gotcha!"

Crystal squealed in surprise as Wally wrapped his arms around her, putting his chin on her shoulder and smiling into her neck.

"You scared the hell outta me!" She laughed, rocking side to side on her feet with him.

She felt him smile. "Mom called and said I need to distract you today so they can set up for the party."

She groaned, tilting her head back into his shoulder. "I don't like birthday parties."

"Come on, only because you don't usually celebrate it." He told her, watching her eyes divert away from him in guilt.

"You sure it's the party she's setting up for?" She asked him, raising an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" He asked, leaning back as she turned around in his arms.

"Your mom is very stubborn about the two of us getting married." She told him with a smirk, seeing the same dumbfounded look on his face as she had when his mom first said it.

He groaned, putting his forehead on hers. He opened his eyes to look at her carefully, thoughts going through his head. "What do you think about it?"

She looked at him in surprise. "Getting married?" She downcasted her eyes, thinking about it for a moment before looking back up at him. "I'd like to wait a few more years. At least till we both have a bit of college done."

He let out a deep breath, relief flooding through him at her answer. "Good. We're not ever separating, so we have all the time in the world."

"Oi! Lovebirds!" Robin shouted from the cave, making the two of them look over at him with a smile. "Hurry it up!"

Crystal laughed and turned, grabbing Wally's hand and racing towards the cave with him. She saw Kaldur standing there with her sister, both of them smiling at her and Wally knowingly. Robin laughed and ran off ahead of them, making Crystal look at the others in confusion.

"What's gotten into him?" She asked, wondering if Kaldur knew.

Kaldur only smiled and lightly grabbed Sierra's hand, tugging her along towards the middle of the cave. Crystal bumped Wally with her elbow, nudging her head to the two's hands and how they were smiling at each other now.

"Kaldur and Sierra sitting in a tree." Crystal began to sing quietly, but enough for them to hear.

"K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Wally bursted out, seeing the two heroes blush at the teasing.

Sierra shot her sister a look, who just laughed and kept on walking. She was happy that Sierra was getting to know someone else very well. After all, if she could be happy with someone, then so could Sierra. Plus the League was fully accepting of her now and was even allowed to help out with missions when needed.

"SURPRISE!"

The whole room echoes with shouts and cheers, making both Crystal and Sierra jump in shock at the sudden shouting. They looked into the room in confusion, and saw the rest of the Young Justice group, along with most of the League standing in there with smiles.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" They all shouted again, making Crystal nearly fall over in disbelief.

"Really?" She chuckled at Wally, seeing him smile down at her proudly of the surprise. "you're lucky I love you."

"We know you don't like birthday parties," Robin began, stepping forward. "But we all had to. After all, we have to show you how great parties are! Be whelmed."

Crystal laughed as he used one of his normal weird words that no one ever used. She couldn't be mad at them for this; how could she be? Sierra was all but floating next to her as she stared at the party with sparkling eyes. She darted her head back and forth from the party to Crystal, almost as if asking if she can go into the exciting room.

"Come on," She laughed, dashing in with a wide smile.

She seemed to get sucked into the party as hugs and laughter were shared. She wasn't sure about receiving presents from people, but they seemed to take into account of how she felt about parties, because most were simple. There were shirts, gift cards, shoes, simples jewelry, and even some video games; she stopped and looked at the small box in front of her, when she pulled on the ribbon and opened it up, she nearly dropped her jaw in surprise. Inside there was a small ring with blue encrusted jewels adorned on it. When she looked closer she saw the engraving on the inside of the band; 'Wally and Crystal forever'.

"Wally?" She asked, looking at him with wide eyes.

"A ring?!" Sierra gasped, looking at the silver ring in her hand and hopping across the couch to her. "He gave you a ring?"

Everyone seemed to concentrate solely on Crystal and the ring she was holding in her hand. Her cheeks were completely red from the sudden attention all on her, and she looked back at him who was getting a faint blush on his own cheeks.

"I lied," He said, rubbing his neck shyly. "Honestly, mom's been planting the seed in my mind for awhile now." He saw her eyes grow wide and her mouth drop, looking at him in utter shock. He held his hands up, getting extremely embarrassed by all the stares watching him. "I'm not saying we get married now!" He stopped, placing his hands in his pockets. "I'm just thinking this could be a promise to ask you in the future."

"A promise ring," Crystal repeated, looking back down at it.

"It's nothing fancy or anything like an actual engagement ring, but I figured it could be promise." He said, looking at her with a guilty smile.

A smile crept over her face as she looked at the ring, her heart swelling so much she felt it would explode. Warm tears slipped down her cheek as she felt too much joy than ever be before.

"Crystal…" Sierra said, watching her sister cry in happiness.

Crystal let out a small laugh as she wiped at the tears, slipping on the ring on her ring finger and looking at it. She stood up and ran to Wally, jumping at him and wrapping her arms around his neck. She buried her face into his neck and let out another short laugh with the tears spilling again. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, a smile on his face at not getting rejected.

Whistles and cheers echoed through the room loudly as everyone congratulated the two about their 'promise' of getting married in the future. It wasn't like an engagement, but it was close enough for everyone else.

"So is that a yes?" Wally joked, laughing warmly at her.

She pulled back and laughed with him, feeling his thumb wipe the tear from her eye. "Stupid. Of course it does." She kissed his lips softly, pulling away as everyone whistled even more and chuckled at the two of them and their affection.

Since they still had a few hours till the next party, they continued the party. The others all but forced the two of them together on the couch and handed them what they wanted so they couldn't move. It felt like any other kind of party as Crystal couldn't help but smile and laugh with everyone else. Her hand was linked with Wally's as she continued to drink the soda they handed her.

"It's time to head home," Wally told her, looking at his watch briefly.

"Ok," She said, standing up from the couch, giggling as Sierra tried to get her to sit back down. "We have to head to Wally's house."

"Yeah, mom is holding a family party there." He said with a smile, standing up next and explaining for her.

Crystal smiled, nodding her head to Barry who gave a slight salute to her, acknowledging her quiet reminder for him. Crystal gave her goodbye hugs and thanked everyone for throwing the party for her.

"Have a good time here for me, okay?" She told her sister, giving a smirk and a glance over at Kaldur. "But not too much fun,"

Sierra flushed deeply and smacked her sister on the arm, smiling as she giggled and gave a final wave. She flicked Robin in the head as he teased her now, saying she was going to forever be stuck with Wally's stupid antics.

"Can I drive?" Wally asked as they reached the outside.

"Go for it," She said, tossing him the keys and watching him smile. He was in love with her car. Batman had bought her a car a few years ago, but she never used it hardly. Now she realized it was a lot better to get around with than walking and letting Wally carry her.

They stood outside the door to his house finally, clasping hands naturally and looking at each other in a secret conversation.

"They don't need to know yet," Wally finally said, smiling as she nodded her head.

A flash of red zipped by them as they opened the door, wind throwing around Crystal's hair and papers flying off the entry table. Barry skidded to a halt in the living room ahead of them, smiling openly.

"Wally proposed to Crystal!" He shouted in the house.

Crystal and Wally froze in the doorway, rethinking if they should run away now. Silence filled the house as the shout was processed. Suddenly Iris, Mary, and Joan were in front of the couple, pushing closer and looking at them with bright, excited faces.

"Did you really?!" Mary asked excitedly, her imagination going crazy.

"Way to step up Wally!" Iris said with a smile.

"Let us see the ring!" Joan said, grabbing her hand gently out of Wally's and making her show all of them.

"It's not an engagement ring." Crystal said, finally snapping out of the sudden ambush. "It's just a promise for the future."

"So it's a promise ring!" Iris said, admiring the ring nonetheless and giving a warm smile. "That still counts as a proposal!"

"It's a step in the right direction!" Mary said, clapping her hands and grabbing Crystal's hand motherly. "Come! We need to celebrate this too!"

Crystal looked at Wally desperately, trying to beg him for help with them. He shrugged at her, giving her a helpless apology that made her silently groan and let them drag her away.

"It's a smart idea though," Iris said once they were all at the table eating now. "Deciding to go into college and finish a couple years before getting married. That's really smart."

"Mom," Wally chuckled, glancing at her across the table. "If you stare anymore at Crystal, you'll bore a hole into her."

Mary was doing just that as she continued to stare at Crystal and the ring. "I can't help it! So many ideas come to mind when I start thinking about a wedding! Oh! And when you two have children! Think of the theme's we could use!"

"Mom!" Wally said, seeing Crystal's face explode at the thought. "I think your thinking too far ahead in the future now."

"Take it easy," Rudy said with a chuckle, patting his wifes hand comfortingly. "They're only 18. They need to get through part of their college and grow up a bit more."

Crystal sighed, happy that Wally's father understood her slight panic at the thought. Mary smiled at her, waving her hand in front of her t knock the thoughts away.

"I know, I know." She said with a sigh. "Can't help but imagine it."

Crystal saw the pout on his mom's face, seeing much of Wally in her as she did so. She let out a small laugh, trying to hold it back at the similarities between the two of them. Mary smiled, happy she didn't make it too stressful on Crystal and Mary's expectations for the future.

"It's great you two graduated and thinking further on into the future." Barry said, holding up his cup to them.

"You'll be busy, juggling your relationship, college, and being a superhero." Jay said with a nod of his own head.

"Jay," Joan scolded, smacking him lightly in the arm for telling them.

"It's not like they didn't already know." Jay smiled at her, but shrunk back as she gave him a stern look to stop him from saying anything more.

Everyone burst out laughing at the older couple for how they acted. Even though Jay was a superhero and was strong, he was still controlled by his wife. Crystal giggled and looked over at Wally as he grabbed her hand again. Presents and cake were given out as everyone talked and hung out. Finally Wally grabbed her hand and dragged her outside to get away from everyone else.

They sat down on the porch steps, looking out over the street while Crystal hung onto her drink. She leaned forward with a smile and stared down at the drink. Wally plopped down next her, running his fingers through her hair and over her neck lightly, sending shivers along her spine.

"Mom can get a bit…over the top sometimes," He said, shaking his head with a sigh.

Crystal shook her head, leaning back and look at him with a big smile. "Today was one of the best days I've ever had." She told him with a smile. She leaned into him shoulder, letting her head lay gently in the crook of his neck. She grabbed his hand by her waist and brought it up to her chest, laying it at the top so he could feel her heart beating erratically. "I'm so happy today that I've felt like my heart would explode right out of me."

Wally brought his other hand around her waist, grabbing her left hand and running his thumb over the ring he got her. He was ecstatic himself over her saying yet to the promise. He leaned down and kissed the ring on her hand, pulling back and looking at her lovingly.

"In three years I'll propose properly." He told her, eyes showing how stubborn he was about this. "I promise. I'll propose and we'll get married."

"Through thick and thin," She said, pushing her face upwards and brushing her lips over his own.

"Through good and bad," He said, a simpler version of the marriage oath going between them.

He smiled down at her, pushing the small distance to her and taking her lips hotly. He cupped her cheek, pulling her forward against him so she was laying against his chest and he leaned backwards against the stair railing. Crystal pulled back and breathed in lightly, smelling the light cologne on him that must be new; yet somehow she felt like he's worn it forever. He pulled her back to him, taking her lower lip gently in the sweet kiss.

*Click!*

They pulled back from one another and looked up on the porch, seeing Mary standing there with a camera in her hands.

"Whoops, got caught that time," She said, turning off the camera.

"That time?" Wally asked, sitting up and giving his mom a questioning look.

"Oh yeah, she's been taking pictures of you two since you were children." Iris said with a proud smirk, feeling like she had blackmail now on the overly hyperactive teen.

Crystal dropped her jaw and stood up quickly, going after Mary and Iris as they ran inside with smiles and laughs. Wally followed in close behind as Crystal begged Mary to bring out the photos. Iris wasn't joking when she said she'd been doing it since they were children.

There were pictures of them playing together, Wally giving her a piggy back ride, the two of them laughing, playing in the water, sleeping by one another in many positions, but always with Crystal's head on him somehow. There were even recent pictures of when they had just gotten together and were sleeping so close to one another there wasn't any air left.

"These are…" Crystal said, looking at the recent ones where they were smiling, laughing, playing video games, joking, etc.

"Insane?" Wally said, looking at them with furrowed brows.

"Cute!" Crystal said, eyes sparkling in delight at the pictures.

"Aren't they?" Mary said, handing over her favorites to Crystal and watching as she reminisced over the pictures.

"You find it cute that she's been taking photos of us without us knowing?" Wally asked, clearly confused by her train of thought.

"It's what all mothers do to their children." Crystal told him, showing him some of the good pictures. She smiled up at him as he looked over one in his hand that showed the two of them facing one another, blushes on their faces, and faces so close they must have been about to kiss. They had smiles on their faces, as if their embarrassment wasn't something they even cared about then. "Besides, I've liked you for years. This just reminds me of all I felt throughout all of this time."

Wally flushed pink as he looked at her earnest eyes, and Iris began to tease him and how he just got embarrassed by her confession even though they were already together. Crystal smiled at him warmly, dealing the final blow to his heart.

"You were always just too slow to realize how I felt." Crystal told him, turning back to the photos.

"Why you," He chuckled, leaning over the couch and hugging her. "Then I'll love you ten fold to make up for it."

Everyone smiled at his open love towards Crystal, all of them knowing as they grew up that one day their lives would lead down this path and join together.
