If there was one things Piper Mclean hated the most about being a demigod: it was the dreams.
Being a child of some of the powerful beings in the universe was already bad enough. But combined that with the fact that they rarely got a good night's sleep and it was basically torture.
However this time it wasn't a dream, no. It was a nightmare.
Piper found herself once again facing Caligula, though this time it was just herself without Apollo and Meg besides her. Suddenly him, Jason Grace appears and stabs the numerous pandai before yelling at her to run. But she couldn't as if her feet were trapped in cement.
Then she remembered the next part all too well, as Caligula fatally stabbed Jason with his spear. Piper wanted to run to him but again it was like she couldn't even move. She yelled out for him but her voice was gone as the darkness seemingly consumed her.
Piper woke with a start. She was panting heavily as she touched her chest realizing she was back in her room in her father's house. It was a nightmare, just a nightmare. None of it had happened.
Well, most of it anyways.
Piper soon got out of bed and took a shower before heading to the kitchen. There she saw a plate of eggs, bacon and pancakes on the table with a note from her father explaining how he was going to be on the set of a movie he was working on. Piper rolled her eyes, wishing she could have talked to her father about something but realized she could do it when he got back.
Piper had her breakfast and since it was the weekend decided to relax for a bit. She watched some television, looked after the animals on the farm and went back to room and plopped herself on her bed intent on just staying there when she heard the doorbell ringing.
Getting up from her room and to the front door, she opened it and saw her girlfriend, Shel at the door with a huge smile on her face.
"Hey there beautiful." Shel said as she kissed Piper.
Piper returned the kiss and said "Hey back. I thought you and your parents were busy today?"
"Eh, dad and mom said they could handle the planting themselves today which basically left me free to do whatever I want." Shel said as she entered the house.
"And you chose to spend it with me, how thoughtful." Piper said in a teasing tone as she and Shel made her way up to her room.
The two spend their in a mixture of talking and making out as Shel suddenly saw a framed picture on Piper's nightstand and stopped kissing her.
"Hey, what is up? Am I not pretty to kiss anymore?" Piper asked in a teasing tone.
"What? No! It is just that… I don't think that I have seen that picture before." Shel said explaining her confusion.
Piper soon looked to the picture as her smile soon dropped. It was a picture of her and Jason in Camp Half-Blood after they had defeated the Giants. Jason, as usual was grinning like a idiot looking like a complete doofus while Piper wasn't much better: smiling like she didn't have a care in the world.
It was a picture taken in happier times, back when Piper thought things were going to get better for the both of them.
"Oh that… yeah, I forgot about it as well. I thought I was going to get rid of it but I guess I forgot." Piper said sighing.
"That guy right next to you? He is your ex right? The one who died recently?" Shel asked.
Piper looked up to her girlfriend and nodded somberly. She hadn't told Shel much about Jason, just that they used to date him and that he had died recently. Shel was a mortal so she accepted the story about him dying in a surfing accident.
Shel sat down next to Piper on the bed and stroked her hair. She then asked "What was he like?"
Piper looked up, half surprised and half expected by the question she was asked.
"He was… amazing. He was strong, kind, talented and resourceful. He always felt like he knew what he was doing and I really admired that about him." Piper said as tears started to fall from her.
The memory of them kissing underneath the stars on top of Cabin One was replaying in her mind over and over again as the emotions she tried to keep bottled up since his death began to break out until Piper was crying damn waterworks all over again.
Shel just held Piper as she broke out into a sob over his death. Finally she stopped crying as Shel placed a kiss to her forehead.
"Hey you feel better?" Shel asked.
"Yeah, I am." Piper said wiping away the tears.
"Listen I didn't know him as well as you do, but he sounded like a great guy and I am sure he wouldn't want you to be upset like this." Shel said kissing her on the lips.
Piper sniffled as she realized Shel was right. Jason would have wanted her move on with her life they spend the rest of it mourning him.
Shel soon got up and said she was going to make coffee in the kitchen and asked Piper was going to join her. Piper said she would in a few minutes.
Piper soon got up and went over to the picture of her and Jason, picking it up she sighed before placing back on her nightstand.
It was true, Jason was gone and he was never coming back.
But the memories of him, the things he did and the person he was. Those were things that were never going away especially not from the memories of those who loved him so dearly.
"Ok sparky, I am going to face my life to the fullest no matter what. And one day… we will be reunited together." Piper thought.
And with new resolve she walked out of her room determined to face the future no matter what.
