Just a few minutes ago, Vi captured some of the most breathtaking shots she had taken in a while. Albeit, the beautiful snowy scenery made her adjust her camera's settings quite often but it was worth it. She took more than plenty of satisfactory pictures before being done for the day. Once that was settled, she packed away her camera, safely securing it in her side bag. Now all she had to do was descend the mountain and develop those pictures.
Her hike down was peaceful and she enjoyed breathing the fresh and crisp air running through her cold and cherry-red nose. About halfway there, she suddenly had this eerie chill. Something felt wrong and Vi had this horrible gut feeling. It was then, she heard a loud branch snap. There shouldn't have been such a loud snap. Most animals were already deep in hibernation so nothing should have made that noise.
Something was wrong.
Vi cautiously continued down her path and the moment she laid eyes on this large brown patch of fur, her heart dropped. It was some huge ass bear. Shit. She slowly retracted her foot, not wanting to make any noises. Now, she may not have known much about mother nature's pets, she wasn't some fool. For whatever reason that thing was awake, she didn't want to find out. She had made pretty good progress but then life always enjoyed fucking with her.
A tree branch had collapsed onto the floor, creating a loud crash.
The bear turned around and Vi immediately froze. "Oh fuck…"
Maybe if she didn't move, the bear wouldn't see her.
Hah! As if. The bear stood up and howled in her direction. It began running her way and Vi gulped. What should she do? Play dead? Make herself look big? Her legs made her decision for her. "Fuck!" She started running in the opposite direction of the bear. "Fuck!"
Desperately running for her life, Vi was quickly panting and heaving as she ran through the icy forest, boots crunching on frozen old leaves and branches. The weather sucked, her lungs were on fire, and she was completely denying her situation. There was no way in fucking hell that a harmless hiking trip was supposed to turn into a horror movie. This wasn't some cheezy and bad horror film! This was real fucking life. This had to be a dream.
At least that was what she had been telling herself the moment she started running away from a goddamn bear that spotted her in the distance.
It was winter. They were supposed to be hibernating. They were supposed to be all cuddly in their den or wherever they slept for fucks sake. So, could someone care to explain why Vi wrapped up taking some of the nicest pictures of this snowy landscape one second and the next, she was trying not to become a winter snack?
And sure. People have called her a 'snacc' before and some people have indeed gotten a literal taste of her but this was not how Vi thought that term would turn out. Being eaten by a goddamn bear was too literal and real for her. At her ends whits, she jumped across a small creak before scrambling for her balance. Her legs were beginning to burn and for once in her life, she regretted not doing cardio often.
"Fucking hell!" She huffed and puffed before turning around to face an aggressive bear that was roaring at her arse. "Fuck me!" She let out an aggravated shout before pushing through some snowy bushes. "I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die. I'mgonnadie! FUCK!"
She could hear that bear getting closer and closer. Its loud and ginormous paws were slamming on the ground and there was no way she was gonna outrun it. Hell. It was a miracle she even lasted this long. Wheezing at her ends whits, she shouted at the top of her lungs. "H-HELP!"
She began regretting everything as her life flashed before her eyes. "SOMEBODY HELP! PLEASE!"
There was no way someone was out here in the middle of some forest when it was so godforsakenly cold. It was honestly a futile attempt at getting help but she still couldn't help but try. She didn't want to die and that was why she was a fucking sweaty mess in the first place. There were so many things she still wanted to do. She had a sister to return to. She couldn't die.
"P-Please…" her voice was weak before she tripped over a dammed branch and of course, life was fucking with her.
Vi fell and tumbled down a fucking hill. The momentum from her fall was excessive and she crashed down this hill, covering her face as nature gave her a warm welcome which was alternatively known as stones and branches to the face. She was all tattered and torn by the time she came to a crashing stop on the cold ass ground floor. At least she wasn't tumbling anymore.
An angered huff and breathless swear left her mouth as she groaned in pain. "Shit!"
She swallowed deeply before turning around. Her life immediately flashed before her eyes in an instant. She was going to be horribly mauled and utterly destroyed. The bear roared with its jaw hung low as it stood up on its hide legs, ready to tear Vi apart. She couldn't bear to face it. She slammed her eyes shut and turned away, bracing herself for a very painful death. However, a terribly long second passed when she heard a gunshot.
A gunshot?
Another shot went off and it echoed into the forest. Vi could hear some rustling in the distance but what had her frozen in fear still was that fucking bear. That bear who had been knocked back a peg from mysterious shots and was growling in anger. Vi couldn't breathe. She was hyperventilating and her chest was on fire. The icy air hurt so bad and it felt as if someone made her swallow a thousand needles that were shaved out of a lava chunk.
A couple more shots went off and before Vi knew it, the bear dropped down to the floor, presumably dead. It didn't matter though. Vi still couldn't breathe and she coughed in pain as she rolled over onto her side. Her heart was trying to tear itself out of her chest and her skin was clawing in pain that even tears spilled from her eyes. Fuck. Was this what a heart attack felt like? If she wasn't going to die by a bear she was most definitely dying from a heart attack.
Finally, someone rushed over to her side. A woman actually. The same woman who probably shot down that bear. She had a hunting rifle. A rifle that was now dropping to the floor as the lady urgently reached down to grab Vi. She quickly flipped Vi onto her back before cupping her cheeks.
"Hey hey hey… shh shh shh…" she cooed as sunk down closer to Vi's body. "It is alright, you are alright. You are safe. Just breathe with me understood? Come on… good girl, breathe for me."
Vi pulled at her chest harder. Her skin was crawling in prickling pain. She did her best to breathe along with this woman but her chest just burned so badly. She took sporadic sharp inhales and rugged exhales. The entire time Vi tried learning how to breathe again, the woman just sunk lower and closer to her face. At some point, she was just a few inches away from her lips. All Vi could see now was her deep blue eyes, fair skin, and sharp cheekbones. She felt extremely light-headed as she wheezed and eventually after a long period of time, her breath finally leveled out somewhat.
"That is it… stay with me… just breathe… good girl…"
Panting heavy breaths, Vi finally was able to unclench her hand. They practically cracked open and the tension in her body finally released. She couldn't move and that's when she realized something. This woman was absolutely gorgeous. She was seriously hot and her cheeks started to warm up. It was nice of course since her body was so damn cold but at the same time, this wasn't how she thought she'd be warming up.
Life and death were such close friends.
They breathed a few more breaths together before she finally asked. "Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" She finally released Vi's face and Vi immediately frowned at the lack of warmth. She also finally registered that the hot mystery lady had a posh accent. Talk about sexy.
The woman took a step back to observe Vi's body. Her eyes widened in shock when she noticed that Vi was bleeding from her abdomen. Her jaw clenched and Vi could have sworn she was panicking before she pulled out a handkerchief and immediately applied pressure on her wound. "Do not worry, it is just a flesh wound…nothing too serious…" her voice trailed off and Vi could tell that she was lying.
The sharp stinging pain finally jerked Vi's body and she finally registered that she was hurt. How the hell did… she winced in pain as her breath hitched. Fuckkk. It fucking hurts. Vi slammed her head back into the floor as she wheezed. The adrenaline in her system was starting to wear off and all of her aching joints and the pain scattered throughout her cuts and bruises were seeping into her body. In particular, the spot the lady was pressing down on probably hurt the most.
"Shh shh it is alright… you are okay." She cooed again before reaching back down to cup Vi's cheek, "Do you feel any discomfort elsewhere?" Her voice was a little shaky but Vi couldn't think straight.
Blinking slowly, Vi's mind was drunk on fatigue and pain and she was completely delirious, probably from the lack of blood, amongst other ailments. She blanked out for quite some time before remembering the hot lady had said some words. Fuck. She was asking a question. Say something! "I-I—" was all she got out before violently coughing.
The woman twitched in surprise before rushing to grab the canteen slashed inside her jacket. She quickly unscrewed the cap before sitting Vi upright and pressing it up to her lips. "Here, have some."
Coughing a few more times, Vi wheezed before taking a sip. She happily drank whatever the attractive lady offered even if it was a little bitter and after she finished, she coughed a little before gulping. Weakly covering her mouth, Vi coughed again before attempting to speak. "T-That tea?" Vi. Seriously? The first thing you say is fucking tea?!
That comment made the lady blink before she laughed and gave her a wide smile. "Yes, it is earl grey tea, I brewed it myself." She then helped Vi up into a more comfortable position, all while applying firm pressure on her side.
Vi was too distracted with her beautiful face. Ahh… she has a little gap in her teeth… that's cute.
"My name is Caitlyn by the way, what is yours?"
Her brain buffered for a split second before she blinked slowly and answered. "V-Vi… I go by Vi."
Caitlyn smiled warmly and that made Vi's heart beat faster. "Pleasure to meet you, Vi," she then grabbed Vi's hand and replaced it with her own. "Apply pleasure okay?" She then stood up to grab her rifle and swung it over her shoulder. Vi found that sight hot as fuck but ignored her thoughts as she listened to Caitlyn speak again. "Come on, my cabin is nearby. I can give you basic first aid and call for help. It might take a while to come but you can rest there until you have regained your strength." She then offered Vi a hand, "That is… if that is okay with you of course."
"I…" letting out a huff, she smiled at the offer. "I would love that actually."
Giving her a comforting smile, Caitlyn held her hand closer. "What are we waiting for then?"
Vi raised an eyebrow as she stared at her hand before joking, "How do I know you're not some serial killer?" She then brought up her hand to reach for Caitlyn's.
"Well… if I was, I would have shot you by now."
"And how do I know that wasn't your bear that you just shot down to trick me into coming into your cabin?" She pressed again as a joke and hoped Caitlyn would see it as that instead of as a bad accusation.
Chuckling at that, Caitlyn took her bait. "Well, bullets are not exactly cheap. It would only take one to kill you while this one…" she glanced at the bear, "emptied my stash." She then helped pull Vi onto her feet who immediately stumbled.
Vi's legs gave out on her and they were basically jello as Caitlyn surprisingly held her upright despite her weight. She wouldn't exactly admit it out loud but she was on the heavier side thanks to her muscles. It was also then that Vi noted that Caitlyn was taller than her by a few inches and that her body was surprisingly firm and sturdy.
"Come on, let us get you warm."
Vi groaned as Caitlyn started pulling them forward. Her hand immediately clutched around Caitlyn's handkerchief and it was then her head fell downward. She didn't have to strength to keep it upright and fuck was that piece of cloth seriously red. Or was it already red in the first place? Needlessly to say, they managed to hobble a few steps before Vi finally gave her a dopey grin. "Heh, you're a pretty good shot."
Caitlyn cocked an eyebrow at that statement. She glanced down at Vi's face before shooting back, "I am an excellent shot." She boasted with pride and a slight smirk before adding, "I just saved your life did I not?"
Vi turned her head around to stare at the lifeless bear on the floor in the distance before grimacing and turning away. "Alright, you're an excellent shot Cupcake."
"Cupcake?"
"Yeah, because you're so sweet, like a cupcake."
Caitlyn chuckled at that and Vi was sure she was imagining things. There was no way her cheeks were a little pink. It was probably due to the blood rushing to their faces from the damned cold weather. "Well I have a name you know, it is Caitlyn."
Humming at that, Vi pretended to think before she nodded. "Yup, got it Cupcake." She could feel Caitlyn shooting her a glare but ignored it before she gingerly asked, "So, what brings someone hot like you out here?"
Caitlyn's face widened as she repeated. "Pardon me? Care to repeat that?"
Vi grunted in pain as they climbed over a small log. At this point, she was fairly certain she was gonna die soon. That intense pain in her side was enough to inform her that she was fucked and she grasped it firmer in hopes of bracing the pain. Her pants were also wet? Once they were situated again, Vi huffed a tired breath. "You're hot cupcake." She repeated as if it was a fact (which it was). "What brings someone like you out here?" She then nodded her head toward the forest, "Not exactly a spot I'd expect to see someone like you around."
Clearing her throat with a couple of coughs, Caitlyn looked forward. "Well… my family owns that cabin we are heading to. We also happen to be a family that enjoys recreational hunting ergo this," she shrugged the shoulder her rifle was hung on. "I am here to clear my head, get a break from home, and whatnot…"
Humming in acknowledgment, Vi chose not to press. From the looks of it, Caitlyn seemed to have her reasons and Vi wanted to respect her boundaries. Besides, she didn't have the capacity to deal with any other task besides walking. The rest of their walk was relatively quiet and long, at least until Vi laid eyes on said 'cabin'. Her jaw fell as she gawked at the large structure before her eyes. "Whoa… what the fuck? I thought you said it was a cabin!" Caitlyn only scrunched her nose as Vi continued gushing. "Damn… that's sick."
"I may have said cabin but it is more like a villa…"
This time Vi shot her a look. "You're kidding, it's like the fucking size of a sky resort!" Wincing at her own outburst, she fell into Catilyn's body.
Unbothered by Vi's excitement, Caitlyn kept a firm hold on Vi and only a nervous chuckle left her lips. "Surprise I guess? Now come on, we need to take a closer look at your side." She then looked down to see a completely blood-soaked handkerchief. "I am worried you have lost too much blood."
Okay. Well. This was bad. Vi really had a hard time staying conscious. Her eyes were seriously heavy and she could only stutter as she fell completely limp against Caitlyn. "S-Sorry Cupcake… I uh… feel like shit." At least she couldn't feel that much pain anymore. That was a good sign, right? However, she did once hear that humans block out pain receptors when it was too severe.
"Stay with me Vi, I do not want to clean up a dead body in my cabin."
It wasn't until they made it through the doorway that Vi finally registered that it was a joke. "Hah! See I knew it, you're out to kill me!"
Caitlyn gently set Vi down on an extremely cushiony couch that made her feel weightless for some reason before grabbing a few pillows to prop up her head and legs. "Busted?"
Vi attempted to chuckle as she sunk down into the couch. Was she falling? Probably not but it definitely felt like it. "I'm gonna haunt you and that damned bear!"
Laughing at her comment, Caitlyn made haste to grab the medical kit. Once she was back, she quickly kneeled by Vi's side and opened the supplies. She quickly put on a pair of sterile gloves before grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting off Vi's shirt. She became hyper-focused on her task at hand before asking some questions to distract her. "So, I never asked, what were you doing out there?"
Shutting her eyes, Vi breathed out some labored breaths. "Hmm…?"
"In the forest." Caitlyn clarified before asking another question. "Why was someone like you in the forest running away from a bear?" She then tossed aside her bloody and tattered clothes before cleaning her wound.
"I was…" Vi inhaled before exhaling. "I was trying to… to take a picture… of the mountains…"
"Are you a photographer then?" Caitlyn continued to question before grabbing a tweezer and removing some splinters from her fleshy wound.
Grunting in pain, Vi shifted on the couch before gasping unevenly. "Y-Yeah… you can… say that."
Caitlyn simply hummed before she removed all the contaminants. She cleaned her wound again before wiring a thread and holding it up against her skin. "Bear with me okay? This might hurt. I do not have anesthesia and I need to stitch you up."
Snorting at her choice of words, Vi really couldn't feel her fingertips anymore. "You did not just use a bear joke on me."
Smiling at that, Catlyn just shrugged. "Perhaps…" she then started sowing up Vi's gash as if nothing was strange or amidst.
Vi winced in pain as she gasped for air. "Urgh fuck!" Her hand weakly gripped the side of the couch. "Caitlyn—what the hell are you?"
Caitlyn hardly spared her a glance as she focused on her task at hand. "What do you mean?"
Wincing again, Vi struggled to keep still as she wiggled in place. "Y-You hunt for sport…" her breath hitched again, "and now you're sowing me up like a doll? Who are you?"
"If you are asking if I am a serial killer, I promise I am not. You will have to take my word for that one." Tying a knot on her last stitch, Caitlyn tied off the thread. She then grabbed a few gauze pads before gently pressing them on Vi's side and reaching for a bandage wrap.
"Not very convincing if you ask me…" Vi wheezed out as her breathing grew more sporadic. "But you might just have me sold…" Huh? What was she saying now?
Chuckling with a smile, Caitlyn's eyes softened before she disclosed her profession. "I am an emergency care doctor, in Piltover."
Vi playfully hissed in pain as Caitlyn finished off the bandage wrap. "So doctor during the day and killer at night ey?"
Caitlyn let out a long and thoughtful hum at that. "Depends on what I am 'killing.'" She then shut the first aid kit before taking off her gloves. "I am confident to say that I am amazing company at night though."
Using the last of her strength, Vi pried open her eyes to look at Caitlyn. "Huh? That so?"
When they made eye contact, Caitlyn winked at her before answering, "You will just have to find out so please do not stop fighting for me alright? I will do my best to get you properly checked out at a hospital." She then paused before frowning, "Although… there is a blizzard coming in soon." She glanced toward the window with a heavy frown. "Hopefully… the weather will not fiddle with them much."
Listening to her soothing and posh accent, Vi let her fatigue put her to sleep. As her vision grew increasingly blurry and dark, she made sure to whisper some last words. "T-Thank you Caitlyn… for saving… me…" as her vision darkened, she reached out toward the light, namely Caitlyn's general direction.
The last thing Vi could recall before falling asleep was Caitlyn's warm smiling face and deep blue eyes. "You are welcome Vi, sweet dreams."
