Superman Epilogue

2136: 21 years before the First Contact War

"Today marks her three hundredth year among us; she is ready to know her origins"

"Perhaps" replied the elder Matriarch, watching the young asari from her seat in the arena. The fair skinned beauty was fighting several other asari all armed with swords and shields while all she had wielded was a spear. Even with the simple weapon, she was easily fending off the other four girls with acrobatics and superior maneuvers. With the blunt end of her lance she smacked one of the other combatants so hard, the lass flew nearly ten feet in the air before colliding with the arena wall.

"Besides, I think she already knows she is special" smiled the elder, observing the adolescent lunge at another one of the warriors and choke slam her to the ground. The helmeted Maiden took the fallen warriors sword and shield, now facing the remaining two combatants.

The older asari watching the match got up from her seat and walked out of the arena. She was followed by two others, who went with her where ever she went. High Justniss Hippolyta strode out to the open and admired Themyscira, with pride in her eyes.

The Themyscirians had lived in solitude in paradise for over a thousand years, secluded from the rest of the world. The island was hidden from the rest of their sister's world through ancient enhancements and old secrets. The asari there had everything they needed and knew their purpose in the galaxy.

The Justniss told her followers to leave her as she strode along a shimmering stream next to the walkway. Always smiling, the Justniss stopped and looked into the flowing water. She started to frown as she peered into the stream and began to ponder on things to come.

She recalled her dreams she had been having lately; everything turning deep violet before shading into complete darkness as two scorching eyes peered back at her, growling. Hippolyta became scared at her own thoughts and fell back, breathing heavily. Then she felt a hand on her shoulder and she screamed out loud.

"Mother, it's just me." The High Justniss looked up to see the combatant from the arena, now shining in the sunlight with a kind smile.

"Thank you Diana" the Justniss managed to whisper as she got to her feet, looking at her daughter with false joy.

"Were you thinking about your dreams again?" asked the concerned teenage girl, still helping the Justniss regain her balance.

"Yes, I'm afraid so" the Justniss sighed as she stood up straight and stared at the young asari, "and they are getting worse." Hippolyta now looked at her only family with anxiety in her eyes as she knew the day was approaching when she would have to share with her the secret of her birth and thus burden her.

"I'm fine though dear, continue your training" smiled the royal asari. The teenager hesitated and then turned to join the other warriors behind her. The High Justniss watched her leave and then continued walking across the island until reaching the Grand Temple. Guards stood outside and bowed as they let her in and closed the large doors behind her.

Hippolyta made her way to the main sanctum and stood before a large glassy formation that protruded from the ground. Staring at the precious stone she then approached the back of the monument, where a small, smooth crystal casket stood with a faded engraving on it. The High Justniss paused, hesitating for a moment before waving the silver bracelets she wore over the casket. The crystalline chest began to glow as the top of it disappeared and a violet illumination was sent all throughout the temple.

She peered through the intense magenta light and gazed upon the treasured artifact of the Themyscirians; the relic that gave them purpose, the relic that birthed young Diana….the relic that could one day bring about their destruction.
