Jurassic World: Return to Isla Nublar – Chapter 14: The Killer of the Deep

A/N: I just want to say a special thanks to everyone who's commented, followed or made this story a "favorite" or even just read it up to this point. As often happens in Jurassic Park, things in this chapter won't go quite as planned as Dr. Grant and the others hoped and best of all, a new, terrible killer will make its appearance in this chapter!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything related to Jurassic Park except the very characters I've made up.

"Who are you?" soldier #1 asked in surprise. He and soldier #2 were staring in a dumbfound-fashion at the 11-year old girl they found in one of their crates.

"Taylor Simmons," the girl responded. "It's about time someone got me out of that crate. I've been in there for hours and nobody–"

"How'd you get in there to begin with?" soldier #2 asked.

"My family was going on this luxury cruise to Hawaii and when I on the dock that led to our ship, some bozo came by and knocked me into that crate on the dock below the one I was on. Then another bozo closed the lid of the crate and I'd been in there ever since!"

Soldier #2 blushed when he remembered closing that crate.

"So, where am I? Where is everybody? Why am I in the middle of the jungle? Why–"

"Aw great!" soldier #1 interjected. He turned to soldier #2 and said, "This isn't good. This expedition's no place for a little girl. I guess we'll have to tell the others?"

Soldier #2 got out his pocket-sized walkie-talkie radio and set the frequency so he could talk to the others. "Hey, Captain Ryan? Are you there? Over."

"Yes, this is Captain Ryan speaking, over," said the voice on the other end.

"Well, it seems we have a bit of a situation here. We have a stowaway girl with us."

"I'm NOT a stowaway!" Taylor argued. "Not on purpose anyway."

"Repeat, we have a . . . little girl here on the island."

"You're joking, right?" Ryan asked, hoping soldier #2 was just pulling his leg.

"I'm afraid not."

"Alright, I'll be right down, over and out."

Captain Ryan turned the radio off and turned to face Grant and the others. The group was still in the kitchen when they got the call.

"So we have a stowaway on the island?" Levine asked.

Ryan nodded. "Apparently. So Dr. Grant, Dr. Sorkin and Lex, follow me please. We need to sort this out. Everyone else don't leave this area. Don't go beyond the rotunda."

"Rodger that," Levine agreed. "Stay in the kitchen/restaurant/rotunda area. Got it!"

With that, Grant, Dr. Sorkin and Ryan left the kitchen.

There was a brief moment of silence among the six people in the kitchen before Levine said, "Well, I'm going into the rotunda. I'll be right back." Levine left. Tim looked over at Kailey. I wonder if this would be a good time to talk to Kailey, he thought. He figured now was as good a time as any since no one else was in the room. Kailey went out into the dining area (followed by Tim) and stopped at the painting of a dinosaur on the wall. Though the water damage was obvious, the picture still looked a great deal like it did when Jurassic Park was up and running.

Kailey looked at Tim and smiled. "Do you know what dinosaur this is?"

Tim nodded, eager to finally have a one-on-one conversation with Kailey. Looking at the dinosaur painting, he noted the creature's long snout, strong dexterous forearms and killer claws on both feet and said, "It's a Velociraptor."

"I thought so, but since there are other species of raptor dinosaurs, I wasn't completely sure."

"Yeah, that's the only raptor dinosaur – or dromaeosaur – InGen cloned, as far as I know. Of course, with all the dinosaurs that they recreated without putting them on the official list of species, you can't ever be sure. What's it like working with the Pteranodons with Dr. Sorkin."

"It's fun actually. No matter how much we think we know about them, we learn something else that completely overrides what we thought. That mostly happens concerning their complex behavior. Dr. Sorkin's still trying to find out what caused them to pacify after leaving Sorna. It sometimes drives her nuts!"

Richard Levine stood in the rotunda all by himself; the soldiers were still in the kitchen and Tim and Kailey were still in the cafe. As he walked around the pile of bones, he couldn't help but imagine what the fight between a pair of Velociraptors and a Tyrannosaurus was like. I would have totally loved to see that fight take place! he thought. He imagined a raptor being snapped up by the tyrannosaur while the other raptor avenged its pack-mate by attacking the larger carnivore. But both raptors met their demise.

He then walked over to the pile of rubble that used to be the staircase to the second floor. Then he got a little idea. He went back through the cafe, past Tim and Kailey (who were talking about something or other) and went up to one of the soldiers in the kitchen.

"Hey, do you mind if I borrow the rope?" Levine asked.

"Rope? Rope for what?"

"Um . . . there's something in the rotunda I wanted to take a look at. So may I have it?"

The soldier shrugged, stuck his hand into one of his pant-pockets and dug out some bungee-cord. "If you want normal rope, you'll need to go out and get it out of the trailer."

"Thanks, this is all I need." Levine returned to the rotunda.

"So how did you get in the crate, Taylor?" Dr. Sorkin asked.

Taylor sighed. "As I already said, I was knocked in by someone. I didn't see who it was. But then the lid closed and I was in there for hours! What took everyone so long to . . .?"

"She needs to get back to the mainland," Grant interrupted. Even though he'd grown to like kids since the Jurassic Park Incident, he never liked hanging around bratty kids that complain a lot. "This mission's hardly a place for us, let alone a little girl."

"I figured that," Ryan said, "but is it too late for the USS Mars to turn around and come back to the island?"

Lex shook her head. "It shouldn't be. I'll notify Lester to come back."

"Where's my family? Are we on Hawaii?" Taylor asked. "Is the place we're staying at a five-star hotel or is it one of those crummy–"

Lex held up her hands and announced, "Look, Taylor, you're not on Hawaii. You've just gotten mixed up with a government operation. We'll get you sent back with your family as soon as possible. What we need you to do is just stay calm and quiet so we can sort this out. Alright?"

Taylor nodded.

"Good. So I'll notify Lester."

"Yes, do that please," Grant agreed. Lex got out her satellite phone from her pocket and began setting the frequency. "How many of those things do we have? Because believe me, it's no fun being trapped on a din . . . tropical wildlife-infested island with no way of communication." He wanted to be careful not to excite Taylor anymore than she already was, so he avoided saying anything having to do with dinosaurs. It was a good thing that the compies had left the area.

Lex giggled. "Dr. Grant, we've got plenty of satellite phones. Don't worry about being stranded. We'll be fine."

"Hello?" asked the voice on the other end of the phone.

"Hi, this is your wife, Lester."

"Oh yes, hello Lex. How far have you gone into Nublar?"

"We've made it to the Visitor Center, but that's not the problem. It seems that we have a bit of a situation here . . ."

Levine lunged the bungee cord upward toward the edge of the broken stairway on the second floor and it fell back to the ground.

"Drat!" he exclaimed. He lunged it again . . . and it successfully hooked to the top of the staircase! "Perfect! Now all I have to do is just get up there." Quickly, after making sure the cord was tight, he tied the remaining bit of bungee cord around his waist and using the wall as traction for his feet, he climbed up the wall and onto the second floor. He turned around and looked out over the first floor of the rotunda. "I've done it! I actually made it up here! Now I just need to find the Control Room to get the information I need."

Turning to face the hall behind him, he started walking, not sure exactly where the Control Room was located. I guess I should have brought a gun, he thought, just in case carnivores lurk in these halls. Fortunately, since it was still daytime, light poured in through the building's windows, lighting his way.

As he passed by a door on his left, he saw that the room was filled with several computers that sat on a few long tables. Levine grinned – he had found the Control Room. That was easy, he told himself. He went up to the door and grabbed the knob and . . . it didn't budge. It was locked! "OK, so this isn't going to be easy." Disappointed, he turned to walk further down the hall when he realized that a large window that led into the Control Room was completely broken as if something had busted through the glass (like a Velociraptor that tried eating Grant, Ellie Degler, Tim and Lex after Lex booted up the door locks). Levine grinned and moved to get his body through the window, being careful to avoid getting cut on the broken glass.

Lex turned the phone off and turned to Grant, the soldiers, Dr. Sorkin and Taylor and said, "Lester said that the sea where they are isn't the best weather for quick travel, so he doesn't know when they'll get back to the island, but we need to reach the dock within half an hour."

"Why half an hour?" Ryan asked.

"Well, by then they'll know how long it will take them to get to the island. Taylor will get on the ship when it arrives and we can continue our expedition."

"Good," Grant said. "Let's get to the dock then. I think everyone except Dr. Sorkin, Taylor, Lex, Ryan and I can stay though."

"Yeah, you're probably right," Dr. Sorkin agreed. With that, the five people got in Jeep-01 and Ryan turned the ignition to start the vehicle (he was the one who was driving). Then the jeep drove away from the Visitor Center.

"That big building? Is that part of a jungle ruins-themed resort hotel?" Taylor questioned. "I'd like to stay there if the ship can't get here yet."

Grant rolled his eyes and covered his face with his fedora. This is going to be a long ride. And I used to think Tim Murphy was annoying before I got to know him . . .

A little later, the Jeep exited the jungle and drove toward the Jurassic Park main gate. Taylor looked up, then she looked over at Grant and gasped. "I thought you looked familiar! You're Alan Grant!"

Grant nodded. "Yeah."

"What are you doing here? . . . wait we aren't on Hawaii are we? Wasn't Jurassic Park that dinosaur-zoo that broke down a few years ago? I read about that! Are you guys trying to build a new Jurassic Park?"

"No, we're not. This isn't even Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park was on a little island called Isla Coofoo," Grant fibbed. "And that island was destroyed ages ago."

Taylor rolled her eyes and laughed. "Don't be silly! I read the news! The island was called Isla Nublar and there were rumors that the dinosaurs survived! Are we on Isla Nublar?"

"No."

"Are we on Isla Sorna? You've been there before."

"No."

"Are we on any of InGen's islands?"

"No."

"You're fibbing."

"No."

"Yes you are."

"Alright, alright," Lex said. "Taylor, we're just . . . in the jungle, alright?"

"Then how come the thing said Jurassic Park?"

"We're here!" Ryan announced to break up the conversation as they drove onto the dock area. "Get out everyone." Everyone obeyed and the five of them walked down the wooden docking area made for smaller boats to "park" on the right; they stopped at the edge.

"So, what are we supposed to be doing?" Dr. Sorkin asked.

Lex answered, "We're just supposed to wait here until Lester calls me back to give me an update on progress."

The group waited silently for several minutes until Dr. Sorkin looked into the horizon and said, "I think I see what you're husband was talking about, Lex."

Lex winced. "What do you mean?"

"Look over there at those dark clouds. I think they're coming in this direction." Everyone squinted to see what the scientist was talking about and saw that she was speaking truthfully – large black clouds many hundreds of miles away were coming toward the island. Based on their speed, they wouldn't arrive for several hours, but if the USS Mars couldn't make it back, Taylor might be spending the night on the island, much to the group's dismay.

"Hey Grant," Ryan began.

"Yeah?"

"You've been here before, what do you suggest we do?"

Grant shrugged. "Personally, we need to get Taylor back," he said. "This mission's too dangerous for a child tag-along."

"Where are the dinosaurs?" Taylor asked.

"I already told you, we're not at Jurassic Park."

"But that doesn't explain why the big gate with 'Jurassic Park' on it is there."

"Alright," said Dr. Sorkin, "we're scouting out to make a new recreation of Jurassic Park with animatronic dinosaurs. That way they won't escape."

Taylor rolled her eyes. "You're telling a tale! I didn't just fall of the turnip truck, you know–"

BUMP! The whole dock seemed to shake for a few seconds as if something had knocked into it.

"AHHH!" Taylor screamed and as the person closest to the edge of the dock, she fell off and into the water below with a loud SPLASH! The other four people fell onto the dock itself.

"Is everyone OK?" Dr. Sorkin asked as sat up straight.

Dr. Grant picked himself up and extended a hand to Dr. Sorkin. She grabbed his hand and he pulled her onto her feet. "Thanks . . . Dr. Grant."

"No problem."

Dr. Sorkin brushed some of her short hair away from her face and turned to face Lex and Ryan who were also righting themselves. "Is everyone OK?" she repeated her earlier question.

"I don't know where Taylor is!" Lex exclaimed worryingly. She peered into the water. "I heard a splash. Do you think she fell in?"

"Probably?" Ryan answered. "Don't worry, she can probably swim and we'll start looking for her right now. We'll find her." Ryan placed his gun on the dock and prepared to leap into the water when Dr. Sorkin grabbed his arm to pull him back.

"Don't do that just yet, I'm not so sure it's safe."

"But she's down there. We need to rescue her."

"Yeah," Grant said, "but we do need to know what caused this section of the dock to vibrate in the first place." The others agreed, but they all knew Taylor needed to be rescued. Maybe it was just a minor tremor? They hoped.

At that moment, a floating figure appeared on the surface of the ocean a few yards away. "Oi! Over here!" It was Taylor.

"Are you alright?" Lex called out.

"I'm being pulled out to sea if that's any indication!"

"Alright, I'm going in," Ryan concluded. "Stay there best you can, Taylor!"

"Duh."

Ryan picked up his gun and vest and handed it to Lex before leaping off the dock and plunging into the water. Grant handed his fedora and outer vest to Lex and he too took the dip.

Dr. Sorkin grinned at Lex, noticing her overhauled state. "You look a little overloaded," the scientist said.

"Yeah, you don't suppose the dinosaurs on the island invented coat hangers, do you?"

As the men swam out to fetch Taylor, who was being pulled out to sea (she wasn't as strong of a swimmer as Grant and Ryan, but she was able to stay afloat), it should be noted that it wouldn't have been a bad idea for them to have invested in bringing some swimming equipment that would have enabled them to see under the water without having the salty water sting their eyes.

Below, a large creature slowly swam from a cave under the water. After incoherently knocking into the dock with its tail as it left the cave, its acute sense of smell catches the scent molecules of something swimming near the surface. Looking up, it catches sight of two swimming smaller creatures that appeared to be pursing another creature that was merely floating on the surface. The great marine predator flexed its body and began swimming upward.

Dr. Sorkin and Lex watched with interest and anticipation as the two men finally reached Taylor. Great! They've reached her! Dr. Sorkin thought. Now all we have to do is . . . her thoughts trailed off when she saw movement underneath the water; it looked like something was approaching the surface . . . something big! "Say, Lex, am I seeing things or is that something under the water?"

Lex looked where Dr. Sorkin indicated and gasped. "Guys!" she exclaimed. "Get out of the water! Now!"

"What's wrong?" Ryan asked as he and Grant started to drag Taylor back to shore.

"There's something in the water!"

Just then, a great surge of water came toward them at frightening speed. Thanks to the transparency of the water, Grant saw what the women were speaking of – something with a large pair of jaws and sharp teeth was rapidly coming in their direction. Grant wheeled around and spotted a small island of rock not too far away from where they were!

"Ryan! Let's go toward that rock! Quickly!"

"What is that thing?" Taylor questioned.

Ryan said, "Doesn't matter! Let's go!"

The men and Taylor started to paddle as fast as they could toward the island. (Fortunately the current was working with them) But the monster behind them picked up speed. With great movements of its body, it was catching up to the humans fast. It opened its mouth ever so slightly, ready to sink its teeth into its prey. As soon as Grant got to the island, he helped Ryan pull Taylor up. No sooner did Ryan climb onto the rock did the head of a gnarly monster erupt from the water. The creature had a five-foot lizard-like head and huge jaws filled of sharp teeth. Its nostrils flared and the colossal reptile let out a fearsome growl as it snapped its jaws at Grant, Ryan and Taylor, who were safely on the rock and around 45-50 feet away from the dock.

As the creature tried desperately to get at the humans, Dr. Sorkin saw its basic shape even from above the water – she knew exactly what it was. Following its reptilian head and jaws was a strong chest and a long serpentine-shaped body that stretched a full fifty feet in length. The back of its neck, back and tail was covered in a row of spines like the ones you find on the back of an iguana and it had four flippered limbs. The animal's tail also attracted her attention; even though most of the animal vaguely resembled an over-sized Komodo dragon, it had a shark-like tail and if the animal backed up a few more feet, it would be easy for Lex and Dr. Sorkin to reach out and touch its tail. The skin of the fearsome reptile was blackish-green on the back, neck and tail, the underside was whitish-gray in color.

"What is that thing?" Lex asked in a horrified tone.

"It's a mosasaur," Dr. Sorkin answered. "They were giant, sea-going Cretaceous lizards with strong jaws, powerful flippers and tail and was easily one of the most ferocious killers ever to exist on the planet!

The mosasaur opened its jaws and tried again and again to snap at Grant and the other two.

"It's gonna kill us! It's gonna kill us! It's gonna kill us!" Taylor screamed in fright.

"Just calm down! It can't get us up here!" Grant assured her. The ferocious mosasaur opened its jaws and snapped at the humans ever more ferociously as it struggled to reach them. With its mouth agape, Grant could easily see the second row of teeth on the roof of its mouth and a snake-like forked tongue. Not a crocodile, Grant thought, I think it's a Cretaceous mosasaur, another animal InGen didn't put on the list! I don't think it can get to us though.

But Grant thought to soon, as a second later, the mosasaur lifted its front two flippers out of the water and pulled itself forward – it was trying to breach itself like a killer whale after a seal.

"It's gonna kill us!" Taylor cried.

Grant grabbed Taylor and yelled, "Come on!" The three of them got to their feet and went to the opposite side of the little island. The island wasn't big, and the mosasaur knew it. She flexed her flippers and hunched onto the rock after her prey. The three humans were now trapped (or as one might say, "between the edge of a rock and a toothy place."). If they went back, they'd be in the water and the mosasaur could easily get them there. But if they went forward . . . well, that was a bad idea for obvious reasons!

"It's going to kill them!" Lex exclaimed. Dr. Sorkin and Lex watched in horror from the dock as the mighty reptile drew ever closer to its prey.

I don't know what we can do, Dr. Sorkin thought, the mosasaur will be on them in seconds . . . unless . . . Dr. Sorkin had an idea.

She bent down onto her knees and slapped her hand on the water so that the splash hit the mosasaur's tail. The mosasaur slowly turned its head to face Dr. Sorkin and Lex, growling lowly. "Hey! Mosasaur! Over here!" Dr. Sorkin called out. She splashed some more water. Even though it would have been relatively easy for the mosasaur to attack Grant, Ryan and Taylor, the rocky texture of the island didn't feel to good on its stomach, so it pushed itself off the island and turned to the dock. With a great splash, the animal used its tail to propel it toward the women on the dock.

"It's coming this way!" Lex screamed in fright. The two of them started to run down the dock toward the land, but the mosasaur was too quick and knocked into the dock with its snout. CRACK! This area of the dock (the one originally intended for "parking" smaller boats) suddenly started to crack into several large pieces that floated on the water, Lex and Dr. Sorkin being on the one farthest from the dock.

Lex held the gun tightly in her arms. "I wish I knew how to fire one of these things!"

Grant nodded to the others. "Now's our chance. Let's swim to that piece of the dock over there!" With that, the three leaped into the water again. They strode quickly toward the broken dock. Taylor clutched onto Ryan as tightly as she could.

The mosasaur looked warily at Dr. Sorkin and Lex who were floating on the chunk of wood. Roaring, it started swimming toward them with its mouth held agape. Lex had never felt so terrified since her experience in the park two decades before.

"Give me the gun," Dr. Sorkin commanded as she took her glasses off of her face and stuck them into her pocket. Lex obeyed. Alright, I think I can do this . . .

With frightening speed, the prehistoric mosasaur swam closer and closer to the dock chunk Dr. Sorkin and Lex stood upon and . . . once in range, Dr. Sorkin lunged the gun forward and it flew into the mosasaur's open mouth! The mosasaur began gagging on the gun and quickly veered away from the two of them and hit the dock chunk with its tail, causing it to tumble violently over as the two women were thrown into the water. Lex bobbed to the surface first and started swimming toward the next piece of dock, followed by Dr. Sorkin.

Once they reached it and successfully climbed on top of it, they both looked back toward the main section of the dock that led to land (which was fortunately much sturdier); the pieces of broken dock that lay between them and the main section of the dock were aligned in a straight row and Lex got an idea of her own.

"How were you at hopscotch in school?" Lex asked.

Dr. Sorkin grinned as she put her glasses back on. She knew exactly what Lex was thinking.

A moment later, Dr. Sorkin and Lex righted themselves and after judging their distance, hopped onto the next floating piece of dock. They'd have a lot of hopping to do, but at least now they stood a chance.

Underneath the water, the mosasaur gagged once more on the gun before fully regurgitating it. Now fully recovered, it was ready to continue hunting its prey. Its reptilian eyes looked up toward the surface and suddenly spied three human figures swimming for the dock . . . like a great white shark about to attack, the mosasaur began rapidly picking up speed as she headed toward the surface . . .

As he swam, Grant watched as he watched Dr. Sorkin and Lex successfully reach the main section of the dock and start running toward the island. Great! They made it! Now all we have to do is get ourselves out of here! Fortunately, it appeared that the water was getting increasingly weaker and therefore made it easier to get to land.

But just then, Grant's was pulled back by something holding onto his foot. Peering through the water, he could barely make out a large water plant that got caught on his foot. He turned back to Ryan and Taylor. "Keep going! I'll catch up!"

"You sure?" Ryan asked with concern.

"Yes! Just go!" Reluctantly, Ryan obeyed. Grant tried and tried to pry his foot away from the reed when he noticed some movement under the water as well, racing toward the surface where he was – the mosasaur! If he hadn't gotten his foot stuck, he would never have seen it coming!

After getting his foot unstuck, he took a breath and dove under the water. The salt in the seawater slightly burned his eyes, but he was determined to survive. The carnivorous reptile beneath him was coming closer and closer, but in the few seconds he had, he wisely surveyed his surroundings . . . BINGO! Not too far from where he was, on the seafloor, was a large rock with a crevice in it! (It was relatively shallow where Grant was) Kicking his legs, he started toward the crevice.

Upon reaching it, he risked a look back and saw the jaws of his pursuer approach him with frightening speed. Wow! Those things swim fast! He told himself and slipped into the crevice. BANG! The mosasaur's jaws slammed into the crevice as it tried to get to Grant. It snapped several times; it wedged its jaws into the crevice to get its prey, but to no avail. It was just too small a gap for the mosasaur to squeeze in.

Seeing this was hopeless, the mosasaur turned its head to the side and peered into the hole with his reptilian eye. The eye swiveled in its socket as it hungrily eyed Grant. Unfortunately, the rock was strong and the mosasaur was unable to break it, so the mosasaur made a low bellow and swam away, upset about losing its meal.

Grant would have breathed a sigh of relief, but he needed fresh air to do that, so he squeezed out of the crevice that saved his life and swam toward the surface.

Ryan and Taylor swam to the edge of the dock where Dr. Sorkin and Lex helped the two of them up.

"Where's Grant?" Dr. Sorkin asked.

Frowning, Ryan shrugged. "I'm not sure, he sort of just . . . went under and I hadn't seen him since."

Lex shook her head. "You don't think he was . . .?"

"No! He couldn't have! We've just barely started our mission!" Dr. Sorkin exclaimed.

Just then, a human figure appeared on the water's surface at the edge of the dock. It was . . .

"Dr. Grant!" Dr. Sorkin almost shouted as she, Lex and Ryan helped him onto the dock. "Are you alright?"

Grant coughed several times before answering. "Well, considering I'm not reptile food, I'm fine."

"Sea dinosaurs . . ." Taylor began. "I knew this was Jurassic Park!"

Grant looked back over the water just as the creature he'd been pursued by appeared on the surface several hundred yards from shore. "There she is," he told the others.

They watched as the mosasaur exhaled streams of water vapor out of its nostrils. It took a deep breath before this great leviathan once again submerging beneath the water's of the ocean.

"What kind of dinosaur was that thing?" Ryan asked.

Grant shook his head. "It wasn't a dinosaur because dinosaurs are terrestrial, or land-dwellers. That was a Cretaceous mosasaur. The mosasaur family was a group of lizards similar to modern monitor lizards, such as the Komodo dragon, that lived in the water. The biggest species of mosasaurs grew up to 50-60 feet in length, had large jaws, sharp teeth, strong flippers and a powerful tail fluke. They were the top predators of the seas they dominated."

"You've got that right," Dr. Sorkin agreed. "Mosasaurs ate just about everything that moved; sharks, turtles, squids, other species of marine reptiles, including other mosasaurs. They also had a second row of teeth on the roof of the mouth that move independently of the rest of the jaws."

"I didn't know Jurassic Park was going to have those," Taylor said. She then turned back to Lex and asked, "This is Jurassic Park, isn't it?"

Lex sighed. "OK, yes, this was Jurassic Park." Wanting to get back on topic, she turned to the two scientists and said, "I'm guessing that was another animal on InGen's list."

"Correct," said Dr. Sorkin. "The mosasaur – which if I remember correctly belongs to the species Tylosaurus proriger – was intended for the park's Phase B, when they would have released more attractions and more extinct animals to the public. In fact, Jurassic Park was even going to have its own Marine Facility to devote to extinct marine life. Of course, as we all know, the park didn't even get to Phase A."

Just then, Lex's satellite phone began to vibrate. She picked it up and put it to her ear. "Hello? Oh, hi Lester . . . uh huh . . . I'm sorry to hear that . . . alright, love you. Goodbye." She turned back to the others and said, "Unfortunately the storm's too bad for them to make it here now. So Taylor's going to have to stay with us."

"Yes!" Taylor exclaimed. "I'm going to get to see some dinosaurs!"

Grant sighed and sarcastically said, "Wonderful! As if things aren't bad enough, now we've got a little girl to be worried about too."

A/N: So, how did you enjoy reading about the "Killer of the Deep" – Tylosaurus? If you've seen mosasaurs depicted before, you've probably seen them with a paddle-like tail. But recent discoveries have actually proven that mosasaurs had a tail fluke, not unlike the ones seen in modern sharks. So that's why I have the one in the story depicted with a tail fluke. I really hope that when Jurassic World (originally called Jurassic Park IV), comes out in theaters, they'll feature Tylosaurus or one of its relatives. Next week, be prepared for more adventure and chaos as this Jurassic Park tale unfolds!
