Jurassic World: Return to Isla Nublar – Chapter 51: The End is Just the Beginning

A/N: Well folks, this is the last chapter of my story. I've really enjoyed writing it and I'm slightly sad that it's ending, but hey, a lot of good things must end sooner or later, right? Stay tuned after you finish the chapter, because I have a special author's note at the end that you'll definitely want to read. Please enjoy this as I wrap this story up.

Disclaimer: I don't own anything related to Jurassic Park except the very characters I've made up.

Dodgson placed a picture he had sitting on his desk in a small cardboard box. After reaching the mainland of Costa Rica, he'd been found by the pilots of his Biosyn choppers who got him and Halley back to the Biosyn headquarters.

Now, he and the rest of the people who worked at Biosyn were packing up their offices. There was simply no way they'd be able to keep doing business with the money the company had. After a long hard fight, Lewis Dodgson had to admit defeat and would have to close down the company and its operations.

As he continued to pack his boxes, his assistant, Emily, walked into the room. "How is the packing coming along."

Dodgson sighed. "Good as it will ever be. The plan was so perfect . . . how could things have gone wrong?"

"Easy, you didn't plan well, that's what you always do," Halley told him.

"Consider yourself lucky you're even still working here, Halley," Dodgson snapped. He turned to Emily. "So . . . what's it looking like down at the labs? Are they almost finished?"

Unlike the extensive laboratories InGen possessed, Biosyn had smaller laboratories. This was because they normally stole work from other companies instead of doing original work. However, they had many offices for lawyers.

Emily said, "Believe me, they've barely started. I can't believe we're going to be out of here in a couple of weeks."

"Yeah."

"Well, I'm going to go back to work."

"Alright, I'll catch up with you later."

After Emily left the room, Dodgson began placing the papers on his desk neatly into file folders. All we had to do, was find Nublar, get those eggs and get off the island. Why couldn't we accomplish that?

He glanced over at Halley; she was pushing a large box out of a closet. It was 24 inches tall. "Well, I'd better put this in a good place."

"What's that?" Dodgson asked.

"Oh, just some money I'd been saving up. I'm going to buy loads of Becky dolls with this! Some of those Becky dolls can cost over $40, and they're all sold separately. With all this money, I'll be able to not only buy all the dolls in the collection, but all the accessories as well."

Money? Dodgson thought. He left his desk and looked over her shoulder. His eyes nearly bugged out: there must have been billions of one and ten-dollar bills all neatly organized in the box; it was filled to the rim with money! "How long have you had this?"

"Oh, long time. I'm so excited! I'll be able to buy the entire collection of Becky dolls–" Dodgson pushed Halley aside and began sifting through the neat stacks of money. "Hey! That's my money! It's not yours!"

But Dodgson wasn't listening. "Maybe . . . this isn't the end for Biological Synthetics Technologies!"

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying with this money, we can save our business for the next business venture! Ha! I knew it wasn't over! I knew it!" He went to his desk and punched some numbers into his desktop phone.

"Hello?" Emily asked.

"Tell everyone to stop packing up and resume work as usual."

"What? Really? We don't have the money to–"

"Don't worry about the money. I've got everything under control."

He put the phone back down and looked out the window at the blue Californian sky above him.

Halley asked, "What about my Becky dolls?"

Dodgson paid no attention to Halley. This isn't the end. I'll use the money to bring Biosyn back from the brink, and then . . . I'll carry out my next plan.

"This isn't over Lexico!" Dodgson yelled. "It's not even close to being over!"

The Lexico team reached the mainland of Costa Rica – San Jose – to be precise. They went there instead of going directly back to California because many of the soldiers that had been attacked by the Troodon needed medical attention. While they were waiting in Costa Rica, Lex found a lovely Mexican-themed cafe called Cafe Brio and pretty soon, every member of the Lexico team (including the research team) that wasn't in the hospital was at the restaurant. The soldiers kind of packed up the place, but as they were still paying customers, the manager didn't mind.

Our heroes were all sitting at the same table, enjoying a good hearty lunch.

Lester groaned as he watched everyone eat. "You do know how much this is going to cost us, right Hammond?"

Hammond chuckled. "Spare no expense on such things, Lester, and you might loosen up a little, like me."

"What did you say those dinosaurs were called?" Lex asked Sarah.

"Which ones?" Sarah asked. "We saw quite a few."

"The ones that changed color."

"Oh, those. Those were Carnotaurus. You don't want to meet them, they're terrible creatures."

"And they don't look very attractive, either," Malcolm added as he bit into his enchilada.

"Well, I'm just glad everyone survived," Hammond said. "All in all, this mission wasn't that bad."

"That's because you were out of harms way the whole time," said Lester. "The rest of us were fighting for our lives."

"Yeah, grandpa was able to do that during the Jurassic Park Incident, too," Tim observed.

Lex said, "In any case, I'm not sure our mission was much of a success."

"What did you mean, sis?"

"Well, our mission was to conduct a study of the island's dinosaurs, right? We failed. All we did was run for our lives."

"No, the mission wasn't a failure," said Levine. He grabbed his napkin and wiped the food from around his mouth. "Our mission, was to observe and document the state of Isla Nublar and its wildlife. We also needed to find out what had happened between the '93 incident and now. We did just that. During our expedition, we learned a lot of new and exciting things about the island."

"He's right," Dr. Sorkin said. "The island is incredibly diverse in its range of habitats and the creatures that have survived. The dinosaurs aren't only surviving though, they're thriving, just like the ones on Site B."

"Exactly. The dinosaurs are all able to reproduce, retain territories, find food and water, and many are able to stay safe from predators. That's a successful ecosystem, just like the ones that we see anywhere else in the world. These creatures have adapted to a world that is different from their own. There are many things we still don't understand, like how the mosasaur is able to sustain herself, where certain dinosaurs nest, where the defined territories are, but that's why future expeditions are required–"

"And not taking place," Lester said.

"Uh . . . sure, Lester. Anyway, we also found a tremendous amount of evidence the wildlife that was there before the dinosaurs were recreated survived in great number. Some like howler monkeys have filled niches the dinosaurs couldn't fill. It's obvious who's ruling the roost on Nublar – the dinosaurs – but other creatures thrive too." He turned to Malcolm. "And guess what, we never saw any evidence for the DX disease you mentioned in your second novel." As you might recall, Malcolm's second novel was close to the actual events that happened, but instead of the having Sorna turned into a nature reserve, the dinosaurs were doomed to extinction thanks to a nasty DX disease.

"I added that to make the story more interesting."

"But, Dad," Kelly objected, "if you wanted to make a book based on the Kirby Incident, you wouldn't be able to because the dinosaurs on Site B are dead and/or dying."

Malcolm shrugged. "Life finds a way."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "And we also were able to look at the inner workings of Jurassic Park before they shut the place down with Dr. Wu's emails, remember?"

"You found Dr. Wu's emails?" Hammond asked. "I forgot all about those."

"How is Henry doing anyway? Where does he work now? I wasn't able to find him on the internet."

"Uh . . ." Hammond paused. ". . . he's fine."

Silence.

"Just fine?"

"Yeah. I mean, he's doing something in California with some genetics company, but yeah, he's fine."

Sarah sensed she wasn't getting the full story, but she decided to let the topic drop.

Eric turned to Grant. "You don't know how good it is to see you again."

"No, I do," Grant responded. "Now that this escapades finally over, we can finally go back to the dig site. Did I tell about the latest updates on the dig?" Eric shook his head. "Well, the team called me earlier and confirmed that they're still excavating the intertwined tyrannosaur and ceratopsian and they've found more nests." Tim and Levine listened closely.

Levine raised his eyebrows. "They did? Any skeletons?"

"No bones, but we already have some idea for the likely culprit of the nests."

"We do?"

"Yes. When we were on the island, we were in some coastal caves and found a nesting colony of creatures with the exact same nest design as the ones at our dig site, just not in a fossilized form of course."

"Really? What are they?"

"They're Anurognathus."

Levine and Tim gasped. "You mean those little monsters Wu talked about in the emails?"

Grant nodded. "Yes, that's them. I'm thinking that they're a different species of Anurognathus and not Anurognathus ammoni, the pterosaur we know from the fossil record. I believe we've uncovered evidence a new species of Cretaceous Anurognathus, one more vicious than the one in the Jurassic."

"In any case," Ryan said, "they really deserve to be extinct."

"They're not evil," Dr. Sorkin said.

"'They're just trying to get a meal to survive', yeah, I got it Doc." He got up from the table and stretched. "Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm going over to the pool table." He turned to soldier #1, soldier #2 and Chuck. "You guys coming?"

They all nodded and without further ado, they were off to the pool table.

"I have to warn you though," Ryan cautioned, "I'm really good at this game, so don't feel too bad if you loose."

Just then, a soldier approached Lester. He whispered something into Lester's ear.

"You want Taylor Simmons?" Lester asked. The soldier nodded. "She's over there."

The soldier went over to Taylor and said, "There are some people here to see you, Taylor."

Taylor winced. "Who?"

The soldier motioned for some people to enter the room – there was a middle-aged woman who looked vaguely like Taylor, a taller man who was next to her and three teenagers, one boy and two girls. Taylor gasped; she knew exactly who these people were . . .

"Mom! Dad!" Taylor screamed she ran into her family's open arms and they warmly embraced, glad to finally see each other once again.

"Oh my goodness, Taylor," Mary, her mother, said. "You have no idea how worried we were about you."

Taylor grinned. "Aw, were you?" she kidded.

"You bet, kiddo," her father, William agreed.

"Whatever happened to you?" Patrick, her older brother asked.

"You were never told? It was awesome! I accidentally got mixed up with some cargo for a Lexico expedition and we went to Isla Nublar and got chased by T. rex, raptors and mosasaurs! We also saw a bunch of chameleon-dinosaurs and venomous dinosaurs with glow-in-the-dark eyes and venom-spitting crested dinos and these flying piranha pterosaurs and–"

"Sure you did, honey," Mary interrupted. She whispered to William, "She's got a really active imagination."

Lester and Lex walked over to them. "Well, good to see you guys getting reacquainted," Lex said. She held out her hand. "I'm Alexis Murphy." Taylor's family reached out and shook her and her husband's hand. "This is my husband, Lester Murphy."

"Thanks for bringing my daughter back," William said. "Hope it wasn't too much trouble."

"Oh no problem really. Just cost us a lot of anxiety and time and all but–"

Lex elbowed Lester. "Lester!"

"What? It's true, isn't it?"

Lex sighed. She looked up at the Simmons. "Would you guys like to join us for lunch? I'm sure your starving after you flight here."

"We'd love to," William said.

"Great."

Taylor turned to her family. "So . . . how'd the wedding go?"

"Wedding?" her sister, Bethany asked.

Alana, Taylor's other sister said, "What do you mean?"

"Mom and Dad's wedding, of course. How'd it go?"

Mary and William looked at each other. "We didn't have it yet," Mary answered.

"You didn't?"

William said, "Nope, couldn't have it without one person in particular."

"You held it off? For me?" She hugged her parents once again.

Sarah looked in Tim, Kailey and Stanley's direction. "What are you guys going to do now?"

"It is back to Africa for me," Stanley said. "A giraffe at the park, Matilda, she's pregnant and I'm hoping to be back in time to see the birth. Did you know a giraffe is six-feet tall when its born?"

Kailey grinned. "How do giraffe mothers manage?"

"Who knows? They just do. Birthing for any organism – animal or human – is a miracle in and of itself if you think about it."

"What about you two," Sarah asked, looking at Tim and Kailey.

"I'm going back to Snakewater," Tim said, "we've got a ton of digging to do before the summer's over. By the time winter comes, you know how cold it is out there!"

"Yes, I do. I'm glad I'm over my cold so I can start back digging. What about you Kailey? You going back with Dr. Sorkin."

Kailey shrugged. "No. I'll actually be spending a little time in Montana with you guys. Since they're digging up fossil pterosaur nests at Snakewater, I'll be able to continue my studies on pterosaurs, and get to know certain people better." She gave an endearing glance at Tim. "Isn't that right, Timmy?"

Tim grinned. "Yeah." He placed his arm around Kailey.

Suddenly, there was much commotion coming from the entrance of the restaurant. Everyone at Lester's table looked in that direction.

With only one look, Lester knew exactly what was going on. He sighed loudly. "For crying out loud," he said.

"What's going on?" Kelly asked.

Escorted by two men in suits was a tall familiar-looking man with black head, shaved beard and an expensive suit. Levine stood up, knowing exactly who the man was. "Wait a minute, you're Rajesh Masrani."

The man smiled and nodded. "Yes, that'd be me. And you're Dr. Richard Levine."

"Who's that?" Taylor asked.

"Rajesh Masranil," Dr. Sorkin said, "is the president of Masrani Corporation. They conduct many projects such as business management, construction, engineering, security and create weaponry for the military and conduct research and development . . ." she gasped. ". . . oh dear."

"But what's he doing here in the first place?" Grant asked.

"Yes, what are you doing here?" Lester asked.

Masrani smiled. "You know very well, why I'm here, Lester. Come on, we've got much business to discuss."

Lex, Rebecca and, rather reluctantly, Lester, got up from the table and walked toward another more private room in the restaurant.

"Wait, Lex, what's going on?" Tim asked.

Lex grimaced. "Sorry, Timmy, it's all a bit confidential at the moment."

"Now, Rajesh, please tell me why this unimportant meeting couldn't have waited until–" he went inside the room and the rest of his sentence couldn't be heard. Lex, Rebecca and Masrani also disappeared into the room, followed by the two men in suits.

Everyone glanced at Hammond.

"Do you know anything about this?" Malcolm asked.

Hammond was silent.

Dr. Sorkin asked the same question: "Well, do you?"

"I do I'm afraid." With that, he got up from the table and walked toward the meeting room.

"Wait, where are you going?" Grant said. "What are you doing?"

"There's nothing to worry about," Hammond said with confidence. "Nothing nefarious is going on; there's nothing to worry about at all. We just have some confidential matters to discuss." With a final smile and wave, he went into the room and closed the door behind him.

"What a mysterious old man," Malcolm uttered.

Dr. Sorkin said, "Does anyone else no anything about this?"

No one else did.

"Well, I suppose whatever they're doing in there shouldn't concern us too much," Levine said. "I don't intend to be concerned about it for the rest of the day. I'm just going to sit back, relax and enjoy this food."

Tim looked back at the closed door to the meeting room. "Yeah, you're right, Richard. Let's just relax. The adventure is finally over."

"Oh no, it's not over," Grant said shaking his head, "something tells me this is very far from over."

"You think?"

"Yes, it's only the beginning."

A/N: Well, that's that! "Jurassic World: Return to Isla Nublar" is finally complete! So what'd you guys think of the story? I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did writing it. What was your favorite dinosaur to appear in the story? There is much more to this story. To find out what's going on in the meeting room, we'll all have to wait for the Jurassic World movie to finally come out (I'm so excited!) on June 12, 2015, less than a year away. I thought it would be kind of cool to tie in my story to the actual movie that's coming out. Some of you might be wondering why I didn't kill off Dodgson at the end of this story. Well, the reason why is because I'm wondering if I should do a sequel to this story after Jurassic World comes out, and I might want him to return as the antagonist. I'm not sure yet, so I figured I'd better keep him alive, just in case. What do you all think? Should I do a sequel to this story after Jurassic World comes out?

Anyway, I'm sure you are all curious as to what my next stories are. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I'll be doing three fanfics at the same time. Remember a few weeks back when I mentioned doing a fanfiction spin-off of this story in which you, the readers, will be able to ask the characters in this story your questions? You might also recall that it will be a talk-show themed fanfiction, if that makes any sense, and there will be two special hosts. Well, I am now going to reveal who the hosts are. They are . . . (Drum roll) . . . PHINEAS AND FERB! This fanfiction will be inspired by "Take Two with Phineas and Ferb" and I think it is going to be a lot of fun. I'll be publishing the first chapter today. This story will only be updated weekly so long as I get some reader interaction.

My other two upcoming fanfictions will be in traditional fanfiction story layout. One of which is called "Phineas and Ferb's Dinosaur Adventure". The other fanfiction I'll be writing is going to be a three-part story set in an alternative Jurassic Park universe and the first part will be called "Jurassic World". Despite having a similar name to the story you just finished, it's completely unrelated, other than sharing some of the same characters and dinosaurs. The first part of the story will be called "Jurassic World". Only one of these two stories will be updated weekly. How will I determine which one that will be? Well, here's how it's going to work: I'll publish several chapters for both stories over a period of a few weeks. Then, based on the reception I get (the number of story followers, favorites and reviewers), I'll be able to choose which story will be updated weekly. In other words, the more people who follow the story or review on the story will promote the story to being the one updated the most . . . hope I didn't sound confusing, you guys let me know!

So how exciting is this? Three cool fanfictions that I'll be writing. So you can check out one of the three new fanfics, and please be sure to favorite and review this story. R&r!
