Chapter 28: Neesik

I watched them fight amongst themselves. I knew that Pranu would not take kindly to being left out on a quest, but it was Caiyi's choice. And I hoped that he had chosen well.

"Quiet!" I shouted over the dozens of voices talking simultaneously. They all stopped at once. "Now that the search party have been taken care of, we move on to the two mentioned in the prophecy. No doubt one of them is Thalia, the one who had gone to chase the sun. As for the other, who will volunteer?"

Dozens of people raised their hands. Most of them had never been on quests before. Others were just doing it as a dare.

I sighed. "Who will volunteer who knows what the secrets of the soul even means?"

Nobody raised their hands. Then, a voice behind me said, "Perhaps I could undertake this venture."

Raven. There was no mistaking the formal speech. "Well..."

"The quest indicates that I am to prepare the ingredients for the Elixir of Life, but to reverse the formula so that its power is reversed also. In doing so it would be able to de- immortalize an immortal." Raven said matter-of factly.

All around eyes boggled. I waved her away. "I have a feeling that you know a lot more, but I won't question you. Go."

She nodded, then shimmered, her form flickering, and vanished.
