Zoey's has left for work, and Jackie has just managed to get the baby back to sleep. He sleeps peacefully in his bassinet, in the living room as she sits on the couch folding laundry. There are stacks of blue, and green, and yellow baby items on the coffee table. She's nearly finished folding the load of laundry when someone knocks on the door. She glances at the sleeping baby as she makes a beeline for the door. She pulls the door open, and stares at the party on the other side, in confusion. She shakes her head.

"Kevin, what are you doing here?"

"I just wanted to stop by, I hope that's okay."

"Yeah," she nods, "Come in."

He steps into the house. He studies her closely. Her hair is pulled into a ponytail, and she's still wearing her pajamas despite the fact that it is nearly ten o'clock in the morning. She has dark circles under her eyes.

"How is everything going?"

"Fine."

"You aren't in a hurry to get back to work?"

She shakes her head, and looks towards the bassinet, "No. Why would I be?"

"I just figured that you would be anxious to get back."

"I'm not."

"So you're doing okay?"

She nods, "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Because I know this has to be stressful for you."

She looks at him in disbelief, "How could this be stressful? He sleeps most of the day. He is the most laid back baby I have ever seen."

"You have a tendency to go stir crazy."

"Kevin, he's a week old."

"You weren't like this with the girls."

"I was more terrified of screwing them up after they exited the womb."

"You're not afraid of screwing him up?"

"Not as afraid as I was while he was inside of me."

"Have you been to any meetings lately?"

"No, why?"

"Jackie you are a recovering addict."

"I haven't been using..." she reassures him.

"That doesn't mean you haven't considered it."

She turns her back on him, and lifts the baby out of his bassinet. Without a word she places him in Kevin's arms.

"He is gorgeous," Kevin admits.

"This hasn't been easy. I think about using, but then I look at him, and I can't."

"Need I remind you that we have two daughters, and that never stopped you from using."

"It's different this time."

"Jackie, for everybody's sake just go to a meeting. It would put everyone's mind at ease. It would put my mind at ease."

"It's like you're pushing for me to relapse."

"I am pulling for you, we all are."

"I will go to a meeting, just not now."

"Why not? I'm here. I don't mind watching him."

"It's alright, I'll go, later."

"Are you afraid that I'll break your baby? I haven't lost, or broken any babies yet. Our girls are both still alive."

"They never peed on you."

"I am not worried about peed on."

"I can't."

"Why not? You don't trust me, anymore?"

"Kevin it has nothing to do with trusting you."

"So why don't you want to leave him? Change your clothes, and go to a meeting. You can be there, and back in an hour. It's only an hour."

"I don't want to leave him. I had to run an errand the other day, and it took less than an hour. It took all that I had not to turn around and come home, before I even got to my destination."

"You are really that attached to him?"

"Yeah," she nods.

He shakes his head in disbelief, "I never thought that I would see the day."

"What are you talking about?"

"That Jackie Peyton put someone ahead of herself."

"Kevin, you're an asshole," she keeps a close eye on the boy in his arms.

He steps forward, and returns the sleeping infant to her.

"How can you be so different now?"

"I am sober."

"As a parent."

She swallows hard, "He saved me."

"He saved you? Do you really think that?"

"I was at a low point. My life was spiraling out of control. I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I thought that everyone would be better off without me."

"Jackie what are you saying?"

"I was miserable. I was ready to jump head first into a bottle of whatever I could get my hands on, and not stop. I was ready to let go. I was closer than you will ever know."

"What about the girls?"

"All I could think was that they would be better off without me."

"Jackie I know that we have had our differences, but you are their mother."

"I wouldn't still be here, if it weren't for him. It made me see things in a different perspective. I wasn't at all happy when I found out, but..."

"What changed?"

"I realized that I had a second chance."

"Good for you. Can I ask you something?"

"Why not?"

"What about his father? Have you told him?"

"Yeah."

"How did he take it?"

"He was shocked."

"Do you think he's going to be around?"

Jackie shrugs, "I want to believe that he will. I mean Caleb deserves two parents."

"You don't sound convinced."

"People only change if they have to."

"You don't think that he has changed?"

She shrugs, "I hope for Caleb's sake that he has."

"Grace told me that she is the one who picked out Caleb's name, is that true?"

"Yeah," she nods.

"You let her name him?"

"I didn't have a name picked out for him. Grace and I had a discussion before he was born. After I saw him, and got to spend some time with him, I realized that was the name that fit."
