LAST TIME ON: My New Dog?

FLASH!

A little boy, no older than six years of age walked by a photo booth to see a strand of pictures. It looked like a school girl and some cosplayer yelling at each other, but that last picture looked odd. He studied it, but just couldn't wrap his elementary mind around it. In the last picture, the girl was there, screaming, but the cosplayer was gone.

Instead, sat a large white dog.

My New Dog?

Chapter 5

My, What a Surprise!

A young man the age of around seventeen sighed heavily as he walked his small orange dog in the park. He looked up at the gray cloudy sky, it would most likely rain soon. His hair was brown to match his eyes and he held his shoulders down heavily. Why did he decide to walk his dog now? No doubt that it would start pouring down on them soon.

"The things I do for you," he said aloud, aimed toward the small dog in front of him. The dog turned his small head around and his green eyes narrowed into a glare. "Don't look at me like that, Shippo." The little pup huffed and pulled on the leash. "Hey," said the young man, yanking the leash back, "stop pulling. How do you think Sango would react if she found out you were acting like this?"

The dog farted. The man scratched one of his pierced ears. "She's going to sick Kilala on you if you keep making me mad." Just then a large white dog ran past the two. It bumped into the man, knocking him off of his feet. The small dog began to yip in attempt to bark at the large white dog for hurting his master. "Woah…" the man breathed. "I feel sorry for the poor sought that's trying to catch that dog."

"Come back!" The man turned around to see a young woman his age running his direction.

The man's brown eyes grew large and he turned to the small animal, "Shippo, I think I must've hit my head when I fell."

"Wait!" She continued to cry out, but slowed to a stop. The young man noticed that she held a pile of clothing. She fell to her knees, huffing heavily for air. "This is my fault," she muttered.

The young man quickly hurried to his feet and held his hand out, "Excuse me, miss, but I couldn't help but notice that you may need some help with catching that dog."

The girl looked up and gave an appreciative smile as she took his hand. "It's fine, you don't have to worry about it."

"Oh, well, I'm sure that I could do something to help." The young woman sighed and shrugged. "I'm Miroku," the young man held out his hand to shake.

The black haired woman smiled and took his hand again, "Kagome."

"Nice to meet you." The dog began to sniff at Kagome's feet and wag his tail. He barked up at Miroku. "Oh, and this is Shippo."

Kagome looked down at the small thing, "Hi, Shippo."

"So," Miroku began, "mind if I ask what the clothes are for?"

Kagome looked down and blushed, "They're for…um… my uncle."

Miroku raised his brow, "He needs you to bring him clothes?"

The girl nodded, a little too quickly, "Yes! He…needs clothes! Extra clothes."

"Does…he not have any…now?"

"Yes...Wait-no! No, he's not…naked…he just… needs clothes?" Kagome tried her best to sound convincing, but the young man Miroku was not buying it. The girl sighed, "So, um could you please help me find my dog then?"

Miroku shrugged off the awkward conversation and nodded, "Of course." The two began to walk toward the direction of the runaway dog. The two humans were silent for quite some time, until Miroku cleared his throat. "So…Kagome." She looked up at him and little Shippo coughed. Miroku ignored the dog, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

Kagome shook her head, "No, I don't…" Kagome shrugged, "but I don't really want one, anyways."

Miroku shrugged, "That's a shame, you are quite the sight for sore eyes." Shippo coughed.

Kagome looked down at the little orange puff ball, "Is your dog okay?"

Miroku laughed off her question and rubbed his neck, "He's fine. But I'm not so sure about yours."

Kagome sighed, looking down at the clothes, "It's my fault he ran away. I must've made him mad."

Miroku raised a brow, "You made your dog mad?"

Kagome shrugged, "I think I just upset him. I was never the best at making friends, anyways."

Miroku smiled, "Well, I don't see how that's possible. I just met you and I like you already."

Kagome, not even acknowledging his attempts of flirting bit her bottom lip. "No, I mean I'm really not good at making new friends. Whenever I do make friends, they just…there always something that involves them hating me or they have to move, or something like that." She sniffed, "And now my only best friend ran away from me…"

Miroku began to slow down, "We'll find him."

Kagome wiped at her eyes, "I doubt it. He's fast and I… I said some mean things."

Miroku, still a bit perplexed about how the average dog could understand what she said, stopped in front of the girl. "Come one, you didn't mean it, did you?"

The girl shook her head and looked up at the young man, "No, it just…came out before I realized it."

Miroku smiled, "So say that to him when we find him."

Kagome sighed, "You're right." Her eyes now dry and not on the brink of tears, the two teenagers began to walk forward again.

"So," Miroku tried, "I never got your full name."

"Higurashi," Kagome said, "Higurashi, Kagome."

Miroku scrunched his eye brows together only for a small amount of time and regained his normal expression and Shippo glanced up then kept walking, only slowing for a short moment. "What a coincidence," Miroku chuckled, "The same name as the Higurashi Shrine."

"Oh," Kagome realized she never explained this to him, "I live there. My grandfather is the priest that works there."

Shippo slowed again, this time looking up at Kagome for a longer moment, then looked at Miroku, who in return looked down at the little dog. "Really? Is that so?" Miroku broke the eye contact, and looked to Kagome next to him.

Kagome, still with a newly found smile, nodded, "Yes. Someday my grandfather wants me to work there as the shrine priestess, I'm not so sure about that, though."

"Hm," Miroku nodded, "you must have some great powers, then?"

Kagome laughed at this, "No. Not at all."

Smiling at her giggle, Miroku asked, "So, tell me, so we can call for him, what is your dog's name?"

"Oh, I'm really forgetting to tell you a lot of things, aren't I?" Kagome laughed again. "His name is InuYasha."

This time the little orange dog stopped completely and so did Miroku. Kagome, after realizing that her new found friends had seized walking by her side, she stopped as well, and turned to look at them. "What's wrong?"

"Did you say InuYasha was his name?" Miroku questioned.

"Yes," Kagome simply nodded, curious about his sudden change of attitude.

Miroku took a small intake of breath as he then asked, "You mean InuYasha as in Dog-Demon?"

Before Kagome could even respond, thunder and lightning had both crashed and rain poured down upon the three.

Kagome ran under the protection her porch and was followed by Miroku. "Phew," breathed Kagome, removing the jacket from off of her head, "thanks for lending me your coat."

A soaking wet Miroku sighed, "Yeah, no problem."

Shippo shook himself dry.

"Well," Kagome searched for words, handing the coat to the young man. "Thanks for the help, I guess. Even though we didn't find my dog."

With a smile, Miroku reached deep into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, "Oh, I'm sure you'll see him, yet again. Not to mention," he slipped out a small business card and handed it to her, "I'm rather certain we will cross paths again." Kagome looked down at the card curiously. Miroku put his wallet away, "Incase if you need anything. My phone numbers on there."

"'Taijiya Firearm Training'?" Kagome read aloud.

"Yup," Miroku's smile grew. "My girlfriend's Dad owns the place."

Kagome tucked the card into her sleeve, "Thanks again, then."

"No problem," Miroku turned to brace the rain once again and Kagome went to unlock the door. "Oh, if you could wait for a moment, Miss Kagome," Miroku suddenly realized something.

Kagome turned around to give him her full attention, "Yes?"

"When the lightning and thunder starts to crash," Miroku began, "be sure that you're not outside." With that said, the young man left the protection of the porch and ran out into the rain, along with the little orange dog Shippo. The girl, left a little bit more confused by this warning or statement, raised a brow incredulously.

Sighing, Kagome watched until they finally made it out of her eyesight down the stairs and decided to go inside. "Mom, I'm home!" Kagome took off her shoes in the foyer and walked further into the dark house. "Mama? Gramps?" Kagome looked around, "They must be running errands."

She turned on a few of the lights in the living room and walked upstairs to her bedroom. Kagome opened the door to her room and planned to plop into bed and never wake up. She would admit it, she missed Inuyasha, she really did. But the girl just didn't want to see him now, she had had enough drama for the day.

Sighing once again, Kagome walked into her dark room, but never made it to the bed. The light of her room, the little pink, bed-side table lamp, switched to on and there on the bed sat none other the one young man-dog, half demon, white haired, canine-eared, extremely handsome person that Kagome had not wanted to confront.

Inuyasha, laying comfortably on her bed, sadly bare of clothes once again, smiled up at her. The sneer sent a shiver down Kagome's spine. "I-Inuyasha," she stuttered, "what a surprise…"

"So, KA-GO-ME," he jeered, "who was that man that walked you home?"
