Chapter 7
A/N: You guys have gotten so lucky. Two chapters in a day? This might never happen for a long time, so don't get used to it.

Chapter 7:Sorting
"Firs' Years! Firs' Years over here!" a gruff voice called out to all of the first years climbing off of the all looked over to where the voice seemed to be coming from. They saw a man, who was at least 7 feet tall, had a large, tangled beard, and kind eyes.
"Hagrid!" Harry, Neville, Ron, and Teddy exclaimed, greeting the friend who had always been at gatherings between the many families. they made their way over to him, pulling Hermione with them. She looked apprehensive about getting near the half- giant.
Seeing her apprehensiveness, Ron assured her, "Don't worry, Hagrid wouldn't hurt a fly." Hermione still was a bit afraid, but followed the boys up to him nonetheless.
"Ah. I see yer all finally at Hogwarts this year." Hagrid said when he saw the group. "Who's yer friend yer got there?" he said, pointing at Hermione.
"That's Hermione Granger. We sat with her on the train ride here." Ron explained.
"Well, it's nice ter meet yer Hermione." Hagrid said. He then turned to the other first years and said, "Well, we bes' be off. We're off ter the boats that are takin' us ter the school." He started walking to the boats. "Now, on'y four ter a boat. Weasley, why don' yer come with me?" Hagrid asked.
"Ok Hagrid." he said to the man. "I'll see you guys back at the castle." He went to the boat that Hagrid was in, and climbed on. Harry, Neville, Teddy, and Hermione all got into a boat together.
When they got to the school, the group of about 40 or so students made their way up the stone path into the castle. Hagrid lead them to a corridor outside of a giant Hall that was filling up with students second years and above.
When Hagrid stopped, the first years were looking at a very stern woman with her hair up in a very tight bun.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," the woman said to the group. "I am Professor McGonagall, and I am the transfiguration Professor. I am also the Gryffindor Head of House. Now, when we enter these doors, you will be sorted into one of four houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. You will share your dorm with the other students in your house and year. These walls will be your home for the next seven years. Now if you will follow me, we will go into the Great Hall to get you sorted and to eat the magnificent feast that has been prepared." With that, she lead the group into the most spectacular hall ever.
There were candles hanging from the ceiling, and the ceiling look just like the sky outside. There were four long tables that had older students sitting on the benches at it, leaving room at the end for the first years that are soon to be coming. McGonagall lead them to the front, and then to the side. It had suddenly dawned on Harry that he had no idea as to how they were going to be sorted. he nudged Ron and asked him.
"Fred and George said that we would have to wrestle a troll." Ron had replied. He then gulped. Harry was nervous, but was determined to look prepared and brave. Neville, who had heard, paled considerably, and looked like he was going to faint. Hermione and Teddy, who also heard, were discussing what spells they new that could maybe take over the troll. Harry was listening in, while also trying not to look like it.
However, all of their thoughts were stopped when McGonagall came out with an old looking hat, and stool, and set it in the middle of the room. The entire student body became silent as they watched the hat. Then, a rip formed, and the hat opened the rip and began to sing,
Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!
When the hat finished it's song, the Hall clapped. Then Professor McGonagall stepped out with a list in her hand and said to the group, "When I call your name, you will come over to this stool, sit down, and put on the hat, the hat will then decide where to put you." Then, looking at the group of new students and the rest of the hall, called out the first name.
"Hannah Abbot" The girl in question walked up to the stool, and put on the hat.
"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat yelled. the girl got up and walked over to her table, while the students at her table cheered loudly. There were a few more people went, and then McGonagall called Hermione up.
She walked up to the stool, put on the hat, and after a few seconds, the hat called out, "GRYFFINDOR!" Hermione smiled wide, and walked over to the table, and was greeted by many cheers and handshakes. After a couple of other students, Neville was called to the hat, and after about a minute or so of the hat thinking, it shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!" Neville got up, and with a look of relief on his face, went to the table, and was greeted by many happy faces. Next, Teddy was called up, and he was put in gryffindor also, with a tad bit of thought by the Sorting Hat.
There was a long break of people between Teddy and Harry, but eventually, he was called up. Before the hat could even touch his head, it called out, "GRYFFINDOR!" Harry stood up, and proudly walked over to the Gryffindor table. When he sat down, he found Ron in the crowed still waiting to be sorted, and gave him a thumbs up.
There were only a few people left when Ron was called up, and after a small amount of thought, he was placed in Gryffindor. Once everyone was sorted, Dumbledore stood up and went to the podium at the front, and said to every one,
" To our new students, Welcome to Hogwarts! To our older, returning students,Welcome back! Now, there are many announcements to be made, but I will give a few words of wisdom, "Nitwit, Blubber, Oddman, Tweat!" and with a twinkle in his eye he sat down.
Hermione turned to Harry, Ron Neville, Teddy, and Ron's older brothers and asked, "He's odd, isn't he?"
"Odd?" Ron asked, "Nah, he's a genius!" With that the group looked in front of them, and saw a ton of food right in front of them. Ron and Harry wasted no time at all to grab as much food onto their plates, and shovel it into their faces. Neville looked at them in amusement, used to this behavior, as Harry's dad James, and his best friend Sirius was just the same. Teddy, however much he has seen it, was looking at the two boys with just as much disgust as Hermione.
After the dinner was gone, it was replaced by desserts of all kinds, and Harry and Ron acted the same, receiving glares, from Hermione and Teddy for being such pigs.
Once the dessert was gone, Dumbledore stood up at his seat, and called for attention, he got it immediately, and said to the student body,
"Now that we are all full, let me give you all some announcements, The Forbidden Forest is Forbidden, obviously, to all students," He said this looking pointedly at Fred and George, both of which had on a mask of innocence. " Mr. Filch as asked me to remind you all about the ever growing list of banned objects, which can be found on Mr. Filch's office door. Please take the time to look at that." He said this, still looking at the Weasley twins, who were still putting on the mask. "That is all. First years, please follow your fifth year prefects to your dorms."
The entire got up, and headed for the exit, the first years following the fifth year prefects, all ready to go to sleep. When they got to the Common room, through the picture of a fat lady, saying the password Merlin,the prefects directed them to their dorms. Harry, Ron, Neville, and Teddy all went up to their dorm along with two boys, Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas. The other boys walked to their beds, and pulled the curtains and fell asleep. Harry went to his desk, and wrote a letter to his parents.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I am at Hogwarts, well and safe. I was sorted into Gryffindor! (not that that was a surprise.) On the train ride, we made a friend with a girl Hermione Granger. I think that Ron has a crush on her. Teddy found us, and joined us. It was a fun train ride. Tomorrow classes start, and Teddy has already started to read up on the work, not that that is surprising. Hermione is the same as Teddy, all caught up in her studies. She has already read all of her text books! Who does that? I better go to bed.
