Gabriella woke up with a smile. Today was the big day. It was her due date. She was hoping to go into labor last night or the night before but it didn't come. She'd been to her doctor frequently, making sure that everything was ready for labor. The doctor said her and her baby were perfectly healthy, it was just up to the baby now.

Troy and Gabriella took the time to take a tour of the two hospitals that they had in mind for delivery. Gabriella had picked Stanford Hospital. It was a wonderful hospital with a wonderful labor and delivery staff. It was about a half hour to forty five minute drive to their house which wasn't too bad.

They'd got a lot accomplished in the past couple of weeks. Troy had rearranged his room to make more space for the baby when it came. He did the same to Gabriella's making room for a changing table and all of it's amenities. They figured out how to put the stroller together and made sure it opened and closed with ease. It was already packed in the back of the SUV. They also figured out how to put their car seat in and out of the car safely and effectively. They were almost all ready for their little one.

Gabriella was still laying in bed, concentrating to feel any possible signs of labor, but there were none. She sighed, rolling out of bed. If she didn't feel massive before, she sure did now. She groaned softly as she stretched her body to the best of her ability. She waddled out of her room into the kitchen.

"Hey!" Chad was sitting on the counter. "Today's the big day!"

"I feel nothing Chad." She pouted. "I think it had no motives to get out of me anytime soon."

"Lazy. Like it's father." Gabriella laughed. "Where is he anyway?"

"God only knows." Gabriella said trying her best not to sound bitter. "He's been out and about every night for the last couple of weeks."

"I think he's seeing somebody." Chad admitted quietly.

Gabriella shrugged. "I don't know if he is or isn't. We haven't talked about anything but the baby."

"I'll figure it out and let you know."

"It's okay." Gabriella said, waving her hand dismissively. "He's not my boyfriend, not my problem."

"Okay." Chad said a bit wearily.

"Anyway, do we have any waffles left? I'm dying for one."

"Yep, some in the freezer." Chad said. "Wanna take a walk to the park this afternoon? I'm on Break and Tay's at this conference thing today. She on standby though, incase the baby comes. "

"A walk sounds nice. Hopefully it doesn't rain." She mused, looking out the window. "Looks pretty bright outside."

"Hopefully it'll get your labor moving."

"Hopefully." Gabriella agreed, opening the fridge.

"I'll be right back." Chad said pulling out his phone.

"Okay."

Chad walked into his bedroom, taking a seat on his bed. Chad was worried about Troy. He'd been worried since he found out that Gabriella was pregnant. Troy was a sensitive guy but most of the time he never really wore his emotions. Since they found out Gabriella was pregnant, he'd have to fight Troy to talk about how he felt. It worried Chad he was keeping it all bundled up inside.

Troy loved Gabriella. Chad understood that their friendship was important. Chad honestly thought they were just toying with each others emotions. They couldn't commit even though they had this baby to worry about. It was a recipe for disaster. Chad couldn't do anything about it. God knows he tried. Gabriella was going to be stubborn and Troy was going to be stubborn.

Troy had answered his phone sleepily. "Hello?"

"Hey man, where are you?"

"Lara's, why?"

Chad closed his eyes. Lara, how could he forget about Lara? Lara was… well Chad didn't know exactly who Lara was to Troy. He met her once. She was a nice girl, she didn't have a very bad reputation. Troy's attraction to her was a little surprising to Chad because she wasn't his type. Then again, anyone except Gabriella in Chad's mind, wasn't his type.

Chad sighed. "Just wondering."

"Gab and the baby okay?"

"Yep, no signs of labor."

"I'll be home around two or something, maybe later. Let me know if anything happens."

"Okay." Chad said, slumping his shoulders. He loved Troy but sometimes, like right now, Chad just wanted to strangle him. Chad hung up the phone with out a goodbye and walked back into the kitchen where Gabriella was trying to hoist herself up on the counter. Chad couldn't help but laugh. "What in the world are you doing?"

"I'm trying to see if I can get up on the counter." Gabriella grunted a she tried to lift herself up.

"You're nine months pregnant. You don't need to sit on the counter." Chad said with a chuckle. "Eat your waffles and be merry." Gabriella stuck her tongue out at him and grabbed her plate of waffles. She took a seat at the table and ate her waffles slowly. Chad went back into his room to go shower.

Later that afternoon. Chad and Gabriella put their walking shoes on and headed out the door. Gabriella was feeling sluggish and she didn't know how this walk was going to go. Chad was patient, slowing down when she needed him to. The baby was kicking like crazy by the time they got to the park.

Gabriella took a seat on the bench and Chad handed her a bottle of water. "Everybody has been so concerned about me and Troy. I want to know how you and Taylor are." Gabriella said, recapping her water bottle.

Chad smiled at the mention of his girl's name. "We're great actually. You know when we first left for U of A we were on the rocks for a while. After we really talked about it, we were good. We just keep getting better. She wasn't sure she was ready for a long time boyfriend but now she's sure about us."

"I'm glad. You guys are great together. You make sure Taylor isn't a crazy control freak and she keeps you on your toes. What you guys have, it's something special." Gabriella smiled. "Do you have a ring yet?"

Chad grinned. "I'm looking at settings."

Gabriella smiled widely. "You have to show me when it's finished! Oh! I can help you pick out one!"

Chad laughed, shaking his head. "Don't get too excited. I haven't saved up enough yet."

"You don't have to get something too extravagant. It's Taylor."

"I know, I just want the real deal. You know?" Chad said. "I'm still thinking of ways to ask her."

"Can I help you plan it? Oh my god, I think I've been waiting for this day for longer than Taylor has!" Gabriella laughed. "Please let me help."

"I will Gabi, just focus on having that baby first, okay?"

"We want you to be the god parents." Gabriella said, looking up at him. "I don't know if Troy talked to you about it. But If anything happens-" Gabriella swallowed thickly.

"I know, Gabs." Chad said softly.

"If something happens to both of us, we want you and Taylor to be there for it, okay?"

Chad gave her a sideways hug. "I know, Gabs. We would even if you hadn't asked us. We're family and we love you both." Gabriella suddenly started crying. "Hey, hey, none of that."

"I'm sorry." She sobbed, covering her face.

"Shh, it's okay." Chad said softly. He didn't have the slightest clue why she was crying but he figured she hadn't either. He just offered a hug in hopes to calm her down. "Relax."

"I'm sorry." She said again. She wiped her eyes. "I just… I feel like every emotion is rushing through me at the same time. I can't explain it and you wouldn't understand. It's a pregnant thing." She let out a shaking breath. "Do you really want to know why I won't be with Troy?"

Chad looked at her, surprised. "Of course."

"It's not that I don't love him, because I do. He's my best friend. He's always been there in his own way, you know? In high school, I think we all knew I was practically obsessed with him." Chad chuckled quietly, nodding in agreement. "In high school, he wasn't into me. He just wanted me to help him with his homework. He didn't lust after me. He didn't look at me the way he does now."

"He loved you then."

"He might say that now, but he didn't love me, he might have liked me. After we slept together the first time, I thought everything would be different. I thought, subconsciously, that he would just magically fall in love with me. He didn't. We just talked about love, how his parents didn't have it but mine did." Gabriella shook her head. "After we did and went off to college he just went on like nothing happened. I did to and it didn't bother me. It's not about that. It's about the fact that I'll never be a priority in his life."

"What do you mean?" Chad was confused.

Gabriella sighed. "I shouldn't say priority… When we first slept together it was because we wanted to get it over with, not because he loved me. When we did it again, it was because we were bored or drunk. When he gave me his attention in high school or college it was because he wanted my help. At the reunion before we slept together he wanted me to be his fake girlfriend so nobody would hit on him. Now that I'm pregnant, he wants to be a part of the baby's life. He wanted to get married for the baby. He claims he in love with me but he hasn't proven it to me." Gabriella sniffled. "I know he's been seeing some girl. I'm happy for him, really."

Chad was speechless. It didn't happen often. "Gabi…"

"No, it's okay." Gabriella said with a small smile. "One day he'll figure it out. We should head back. I need to Google how to induce labor."

"Sex does the trick." Chad said with a smirk as he got up.

"I'm not having sex with Troy." Gabriella said, rolling her eyes. "He's got someone else's services."

"What?"

"Nothing." She said shaking her head. She pushed herself up. "Come on, baby. Let's start moving along here, huh?" She spoke to her belly.

May 4, 2013

Gabriella was sick and tired of being pregnant. She was irritated and on edge. She was about to go to the hospital and demand an emergency C section. Her parents had flown in from Albuquerque, using some extra vacation time to hopefully see their first grandchild be born before they go back. They were staying near by at a hotel just down the street.

Her mom had been doing extra stuff around the house in preparation for the baby. Gabriella just complained about being fat and uncomfortable. Troy had been around more since her parents got here yesterday. She was getting really impatient with him, snapping at him for no reason. Troy just pissed her off for no reason, she could barely stand to be around him. Gabriella was miserable.

Her mom was making lunch when Troy walked in on the phone. He was chuckling at something and stepped into his room. Gabriella huffed, watching him. "What's your problem?" Her mother asked. Gabriella knew her parents noticed the tension between the two of them.

"He's just infuriating."

"He didn't do anything."

Gabriella sighed. "You wouldn't understand, mom."

"Try me."

"Hey Maria, something smells good." Troy said, walking in the kitchen, all smiles. She glared as he walked past her. "Is that rice and chicken?"

"Yes, and it's not done yet so keep your hands out of it, Troy Bolton." Maria teased.

"Hey Gabsy." Troy said, kissing her head.

Gabriella just pushed him away. "Don't touch me."

"Gabriella!"

"I'm 41 weeks pregnant. I'm sorry if I don't want to be touched right now." She snapped.

"Don't be too hard on her, she's having a rough time." Troy said to her mother.

"And how the hell would you know?" Gabriella snapped again. "You're not the pregnant one. You don't have a billion pound baby moving inside of you all day. You don't get cramps or heartburn or stomach aches and head aches. Hell, you haven't even been here the last week, so don't you go telling my mother about a rough time."

"Gabi."

"Don't." Gabriella put her hand up. "I'm going for a walk."

"Let me just go with you." Troy said, softly.

"Why do you want to go now? You haven't wanted to go all week when I try to get your fucking baby out of me."

"Gabriella."

"Don't Gabriella me. You're just so-"

"I'm what? I'm just so what, Gabriella?" Troy said, starting to get irritated.

"You're a fucking idiot, that's what you are. You walk around like you own the fucking world. You just use people until you get tired of them and I'm not going to be that girl any more. You have a new girl to fuck and leave when you get bored." Gabriella said, pushing him as hard as she could.

"You know that's not-"

Gabriella turned a little pale, she closed her eyes for a moment. She grabbed on to the couch that was next to her. She felt it then, just as the room stopped spinning. "Oh my god."

"What?" Troy asked, making sure she wasn't going to puke or pass out.

"I feel it." She said, putting her hand on her bump, it was hard. Her face lit up. "Oh my god!"

"What? What's the matter?" Troy asked, looking her over.

"Contractions. I feel them. Dear fucking lord." She face screwed up in pain. "Okay. Ow, that's not cool."

"Does this mean?"

"Fuck." Gabriella whispered.

"So you're in…?"

"Troy, get the timer app on your phone."

Troy pulled out his phone. "Okay tell me when to start."

She breathed out, concentrating. "Okay now."

"I think I should call the hospital, let them know we're coming?" Troy asked.

"Yes, we should."

"Doctor said I was two centimeters on Wednesday, maybe it'll come quick." Gabriella said, putting her hand on her belly. "Are you ready to come out, little one?" She asked quietly.

"Hi, this is Troy Bolton. Yeah, Gabi is feeling some contractions and we were wondering if we should head over there now? Um, they're still quite a ways apart. Okay. Alright, thank you." Troy hung up the phone.

"What'd they say?"

"We have to call back when they get closer together." Troy said. "For now they want to practice your breathing. Maybe we can go for a walk or you can do some of your stretches?"

Gabriella ran her hand over her face. "We should start with some stretches."

"You stretch and I'll put the bags in the car." Troy said. "I'll be right back."

"Okay." Gabriella breathed out. She stood in the living room, reaching her arms up as best as she could. She breathed calmly, closing her eyes. She changed into a second position and she got another contraction. It wasn't painful but it was noticeably uncomfortable. Once the contraction subsided she finished her pose and got on all fours.

Troy put their bags in the truck along with her pregnancy pillow. The baby's bag was packed and ready to go as well as the car seat. He couldn't believe he was going to become a father soon. He smiled as he walked back inside. He frowned when he saw Gabriella doubled over in pain. "You alright?"

"Yeah. It just hurts." Gabriella let out a breath and stood up. "We should get started on that walk while I can still move."

"I'll go get your shoes." Troy said. He rushed back with their shoes and they put them on. They headed out the door letting her parents know they'll be right back. Gabriella walked slowly down the street. Troy was right next to her, worried. He didn't like seeing her like this.

"I have to stop." Gabriella said at the end of their block. She gripped his shoulder and closed her eyes.

Troy rubbed her back comfortingly. "It's okay, just breathe."

She sucked in a breath and stood up straight. "Okay, let's keep going."

They made it to the end of the second black before they had to stop again. "You alright?" He asked her. She nodded, covering her face. "Does it feel like they're coming quicker?"

"It feels like they never stop." She moaned aloud, burying her face in his shoulder. "This sucks."

"Let's keep walking okay?"

"Okay." She agreed. She walked through a contraction as they got to the third block. They turned down a street.

When they finally got back to the house, Gabriella couldn't take it anymore. They had to go to the hospital, now. Gabriella was calling their friends to let them know they were on their way. She'd have Troy call them back once she was settled in. Her parents had called his parents so they were informed.

When they got to the hospital, Troy walked her up there after he parked. He signed them in and waited until Gabriella was as comfortable as she could possibly be before he called their friends back. The doctor was just leaving when he stepped back in the room. "Hey." Troy said softly, making his way over to Gabriella.

"Hey, are they on there way?"

Troy nodded. "What'd the doctor say?"

"I'm at five. He's talking to the anesthesiologist. They're supposed to be coming in soon to talk about the epidural." Gabriella said. "The way I'm progressing I'm probably going to be here for a while."

"At least you're in labor and not waiting for it."

"It's going to be a Cinco De Mayo baby." She said, running her fingers through her hair. "I look gross."

"You're beautiful. Don't worry about how you look, worry about getting some rest so you can push this baby out."

"Fine." She breathed out. "I don't know how much sleep I'm going to get. These things are like ten minutes apart."

"Just rest the best that you can, okay?" Troy murmured. He leaned down, kissing her forehead gently. "I'll be back soon."

Gabriella frowned instantly. "Where are you going?"

"I have something to take care of."

"Don't leave." She said, clutching desperately to his hand.

"Gabi." Troy frowned. He saw the tears brimming in her eyes. He sighed. "I'll just be right back, I promise."

"I need you. I can't do this without you." She gasped, letting his hand go. She put her hands on her pillow and squeezed it as best she could until her contractions subsided. She let out a breath and wiped her eyes. "Go, send somebody else in when you do."

"I'll be right back."

"I know." She turned to her side and closed her eyes. "Actually don't send anybody in. I'm going to sleep." She murmured softly.

He frowned to himself and brushed back her hair. She flinched at his contact. He pressed a kiss to the back of her head and walked out the room. Troy fought with himself all the way to the waiting room. He was greeted by a bunch of balloons and flowers.

"Troy!" Chad was standing next to Taylor with a wide smile and a two foot teddy bear. "How's our girl doing?"

"She's trying to get to sleep. How about a couple of you go in there to keep her company while I go do something?"

"I'll go in." Taylor said. "Shar do you want to come with or I'll let you and Zeke go in and I'll go with Chad?"

"You and Chad go. Zeke and I will wait here. Hey, where's Gabi's parents?"

"They'll be here later. Maria said she wanted to clean up the house a little bit before they left." Troy rolled his eyes. "I told her not to but her mom instincts tell her to I guess. But hey, I'll be back in ten minutes."

"Okay." Sharpay said, watching him, skeptically.

"See ya." Troy turned and walked out of the building.

"Something's up with him." Sharpay murmured. "If he missed his baby being born then I think me and Gabi will both kick his ass."

"He'll get five ass kickings, trust me." Chad said. "Come on Tay, let's go see Gabs."

"Coming."
