Chapter 9: Surprise, Surprise!
Poke, poke, poke.
Twitch. Groan.
Poke, poke, poke.
Deep inhale. Shift.
Poke, po-
A hand gentle held her hand in place moving it to her lap. Her brother lazily open his eyes and sat up stretching his aching muscles. He rubbed his eyes yawning then stared at Lucy in a sleepy haze. He groaned lightly, groggily asking, "What is it, Luce?" An edge of sleepiness in his voice. She giggled softly. "Because Sting-nii, I have something to tell you." She whispered quietly.
Said boy shuffled lazily out from under the warmth of the covers and shivered at the cold atmosphere. He glanced at his sister with half lidded eyes as he stiffled a yawn. "What is it?" He asked rather loudly to which Lucy immediately took hold of.
"Shh! Laxy-nii might wake up!" She warned, pressing a finger against his lips. The blonde male gave her a suspicious look then nodded slowly. Lucy nodded in approval and tugged him out of the room and down stairs. His body recieved another jolt of shivers as a gust of cold breeze swept by. He glanced at his adorable little sister who was affected.
"Are you cold, Lucy?" Sting asked as he rubbed his arm to regain his warmth. The girl arched an brow at the question then giggled. "Nope!" She responded while continuing her way to the kitchen.
The older boy looked at the surroundings then at Lucy. "We're not going to make anything right? Because you know I can't make anything without it blowing up." He stated blantly, another yawn escaping his lips. "Anyways, now that Laxus can't hear, what is that you want to do?"
"Wait! I'll tell you after you get ready!" She persisted eagerly, pushing him in the direction from which they came. Lucy made a 'shooing' gesture with her right hand. Sting blinked in total confusion, his curiosity reaching it's peak. He glanced at her once last time then did what was told. "Okay.." He mumbled slowly.
"Okay, I've done what you've asked. So, what is it?" Sting asked, settling himself down on the sofa next to his sister. Lucy faced him with an unusually excited expression as her eyes sparkled, flowers randomly appearing in the background. She clapped her hands enthusiastically, grinning widely and in low whisper she said, "We're gonna surprise Laxy-nii."
His face slightly faltered but disappeared quickly as it came. He shook his head, inwardly chanting to himself, "I'm not jealous..." and so on. He had to admit he was just a little jealous over the fact Lucy planned an surprise for Laxus and not him. (A/N: A little? Yeah right.)
"Oh," He responded, sounding disappointed. Lucy blinked at the sudden change of attitude then frowned slightly. "Stingy-nii, are you alright?" She asked, feeling quite guilty. The older boy immediately regained his usual act and smirked at the smaller blonde. "Never been better," He said cheekily.
Without any warning, Lucy hugged his torso tightly, surprising the lad. In a muffled tone, he could make out the words, "Don't worry, Stingy-nii. You mean just as much to me as he does." Those words had his heart thumping in joy. Sting smiled at the heartwarming words and returned the hug, burying his face into the blob of blonde hair. "Now how 'bout Laxus's surprise?" He chuckled lightly.
They released the hug—much to Sting's dismay—and started suggesting simple ideas. After may small debates later, they came to an empty-handed conclusion. Lucy was leaning against the arm of the couch pouting. "Aww~ What is a good idea?" She whined, rolling her head back.
Sting was on the same level but only seemingly to nonchalantly state anything that came to mind. In truth, he didn't really want to think about it. He still is kinda jealous and that's what's stopping him. Well, he should get over it since it was a small problem. He ruffled his hair in frustration, casting the thought away — far away.
Sting inhaled deeply. The silence was getting to him so watching a movie sounded good. "Hey Lucy, I'm gonna put in a movie." He informed, ready to insert the disc until Lucy slapped her cheeks lightly. "Oooh~ You gave me an idea!" She whispered in amazement.
"And that is?" Sting inquired, closing the disc case and plopping down on the couch just as the movie started. The little blonde stared at her brother, beaming happily. "We can have a movie night with Laxy-nii!"
~Later that night~
Laxus raised an eyebrow at the two twitching blondes (mostly Lucy) sitting at the table. Ever since they came back from "We're going to the park!" as Lucy dubbed, they've raced up to the bedroom. Then came down almost in a rush during dinner. To say in the least, he was curious. Clearing his throat, he glanced at the two who stared at him.
"So, what have you guys been up to?" He asked. The two blondes traded side glances, seeming to make an silent agreement, and gave him an expectant look.
"The usual," Sting shrugged, picking at his food. Lucy made a face at the comment then smiled afterwards, saying, "We did go to the park." Rather too cheerful if you ask him.
Laxus nodded in understanding, taking at bite. Swallowing, he asked again, "What did you do at the park?" This slightly caught the two off guard, coughing to make it less noticable. But it did the opposite actually. The eldest of the siblings gave them a meaningful gaze, syncronizing them intently.
Sting was the first to speak. "Y-you know, the things kids do at playgrounds." He laughed nervously. Lucy butted in, supporting her brother's claim. "Yeah, like swinging, playing on the monkey bars, sliding down the slide, and running around," She said in a rush.
After a moments silence, Laxus set down his fork, staring at them. He sighed. "Okay guys, what's up?" He asked, waiting for them to spill the beans. The duo froze in their seats, sweating profusingly. No one made a sound.
Tick, tock. Tick, tock.
The clock went as Laxus waited for an reasonable truth.
Just as he was about to question once more, Lucy opened her mouth obediently. "ImsorryLaxynii! Ididntmeanto!" Was all he heard rapidly spilled from her lips; a squable of gibberish. "S-l-o-w-l-y." He said.
Lucy took a breather and fiddled with her fingers. "I'm sorry Laxy-nii. I didn't mean to." She mumbled but he was able to hear it clearly considering the room was silent the entire time. Laxus sighed once more. Gosh he was doing that a lot. "What did you do?"
This time his younger brother spoke. "We didn't do anything bad. It's more of a surprise." He blurted. Laxus's face lit up in surprise and he sputtered, "What?"
"It's a surprise for you, Laxy-nii!" Lucy beamed. Laxus blinked then stared at the two in shock. He grinned warmly at them. Later into the evening, the three blondes settled onto the couch once again and watched series of movies. Half way through, the younger siblings had fallen asleep while the blonde laughed lightly.
He whispered, "I love you guys so much." He kissed the top of their foreheads, slowly drifting to sleep as the television played onward all night.
