Sophie-Anne closed the distance between us and leaned forward towards me. Sniffing me as if she was trying to figure out my scent. She cocked her head to the side, her silk combed hair falling across her cheek. ''You really are special aren't you?" One small hand reached out and stroked across my collarbone and I couldn't help the frown that crossed my face. I was getting the chills being near this vampire.
She smiled at my discomfort and stepped back glancing away from me as if I was no longer entertaining. "I heard about what happened with Donald. He was always such a disappointment, a waste of a vampire and space."
Eric smiled coolly, completely still in his chair. "Good thing I did away with him."
Sophie-Anne tilted her head in a nod, "The telepath helped you, yes?"
Eric remained cool, but I saw his eyes slightly narrow at the Queen. "She did."
The Queen looked at André and then back at Eric. "I have a task for you, something has come up in Mississippi. Werewolves believing they can do whatever they want...fools. You know the packmaster Nash don't you?"
"I've heard of him." Eric said, not giving away just how well he may or may not know Nash.
André scoffed, his arms folding behind his back, he looked down at Eric. "You've been friends for a while, Eric. Don't lie."
Sophie-Anne grinned at her accomplice who lit up from the attention. "There's a boy hiding on his land, and he knows that I'm looking for him. Yet...he keeps lying to me but I can't prove it. I want you to take Sookie there and find the boy. He has something of mine, and I want it back."
She turned towards me, "Don't disappoint me, Sookie Stackhouse. Go there, pick their brains, find the boy, and get what belongs to me."
The Queen stared at me as if she were waiting for a response. Actually Eric and André were staring intensely at me too. Wrecking the very few nerves I had I went for it. "My friend is missing." I blurted out my eyes widening as I heard the words myself.
Eric sucked in a breath, the first human reaction I saw by him with the Queen's arrival.
The Queen even looked confused. "So?"
That one word ticked me off so bad I could spit on her shoes. I had more sense then that thankfully. "So, if you want me to help with the best of my ability I want my friend found. She was last seen-"
"I don't care about your friend." She laughed.
My face twisted into absolute anger. "Well then I don't care about whatever that werewolf has of yours in Mississippi." I shot back at her, damn her for making me want to cry.
"Sookie!" Eric warned me, his voice full of rage.
It was her turn to be mad as hell. She stepped towards me with one mall step that felt like a mile. André turned with her, close behind her back. They both glowered at me, power shooting off of them like fire. In a fleeting second Eric was beside me. The Queen faltered then, "Control her."
"She's a human, they're sensitive to their little knick-knack of friend's." He joked calmly. I don't know if it was because he had me close to his side that had calmed him down. But he didn't sound as mad as he did when he was sitting across the room.
"That's cute. Those frivolous little emotions like 'love'. They could get you killed." Sophie replied more to me than to Eric.
"A Vampire took her from your land, against her will. I don't believe she's dead, and even if she is her cousin deserves to bury her. You want my help? Agree to help find her. it's nothing to you to put one of your underlings on this."
She rolled her eyes and smiled like she was kidding all along. "Don't talk anymore, I'll do it but don't ever test me again. It can lead to your little telepathic true death." She glanced over at Eric. "Pam will show us out, you two talk. Remember...I don't do well with disappointment. Makes me a little irrational." André snickered at her comment and they flitted out of the room. Leaving Eric alone.
Damn, I was about to hear an earful.
It felt like minutes passed after that door shut behind André's back, and it probably was. I knew Eric wanted to wait until the Queen and Andre was out of ear shot. Eric startled me when in an instant I was folded in his arms, my head pressed into his silent chest. He breathing was haggard into my hair as he held me, I shook too. What I had done had made him react as a human would.
He pulled away and cupped my face roughly. "Why, Sookie? Is that girl's life worth more than your own? That question, that fucking request of yours could have killed us both. Pam would have ran in her trying to protect me and she would have possibly died also. Why would you risk that?"
I didn't about it when I had done it and I didn't want to admit that to him. Instead I let my tears fall and apologized. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I promised Lafay-"
"I don't care of what you promised! You almost got yourself killed! I gave you my word that I would help so why would you ask the Queen? Do you not trust me?" He asked, his eyes glimmering with rage. Furious with me. I couldn't handle it.
"I do! I just...I'm sorry."
"You didn't even think about what was going to come out of your mouth did you? Just let it flow out like vomit, no care for how it effected me." He said backing away from me, running a hand through his now unruly hair he went back to his chair. Not even looking at me he flicked a hand at the door.
"Leave me, Sookie."
I wiped my eyes stepping forward and I could have sworn I heard him snarl. "I don't want to leave you, Eric look at me!"
"I said get out!" He yelled, slamming his hands on the desk. Mad at myself and him for not listening to me I pivoted on my heel and stormed out slamming his door as loud as I could.
Once I had found my way home, exhausted I laid down right on the floor and stared at the ceiling. Thinking about how my life had turned into crap so fast when my doorbell rung. I sat up and looked at the door. Who the heck was that, and did I want to alert them that I was at home?
