Yeah I suck. It's coming up on a year since my last update. That is coming to an end, I hope. Lets get back to business!
Side note- it might be a good time to skim over the old chapters, you know so you can jog memories and such.
PLEASE READ THE AUTHOR'S NOTE BELOW when you finish the chapter
Chapter 11
Deathwish part 1
-Day 44-
-0 Hours Remaining-
The helicopter slowed to a hover over the drop site and its passenger dropped out. The suit clad man dropped like a sack of bricks, his arms spread out wide and the back of his coat fluttering wildly in the fury of the wind. He landed in a perfect crouch, knees bent and arms outstretched, as the ground around him cracked and buckled with his impact. He stood and straitened his coat and waved away the copter with a dismissive gesture as he made his way to the entrance of the building. Just as he reached the door a man opened it from the inside.
"Wintergreen." Slade acknowledged the man.
Wintergreen gave a deep bow, "Your suit is ready in your room and the boy is currently heading south on Central Ave, and at the speed he is traveling at it seems he is traveling by vehicle."
Slade took in this information as he moved swiftly through the warehouse halls.
"How long has he been traveling on Central?" Slade asked his butler.
Wintergreen studded for a second, not expecting that question, "Um, I guess about 15 minutes now. Why?"
"Because I need to know how long it's been since he has taken off his collar." Slade replied briskly as he made the turn into his room.
"Taken it off?" Wintergreen asked with a frown.
"Yes, taken off." Slade responded as he began to remove his business suit, "There is no logical reason for Robin to be traveling South, further into the Storage distract. He must have found a way to remove the device and continued on the path his was previously traveling. So tell me Wintergreen, which direction was he traveling before he removed the collar."
Wintergreen immediately had a small tablet in his hands and after a few taps on the glass screen he relied, "Well his movements before where illusory at best.."
Slade made a low irritated noise.
"West. He was traveling west. Into the city."
Slade nodded, it made basic sense that the boy would move into the city. If he was maneuvering through the city based on previous knowledge or simple military tactics he would have traveled North or East to the train station or residential areas or even could have headed south where there would be more places to hide and an easy place to defend oneself. But Robin was never one for those kinds of tactics. Robin would act with his gut and anyone acting on gut reasoning in Los Angeles would assume heading directly into the city would be a perfect plan of action. But reason has no place in La-La Land.
After he had tossed the collar onto a passing truck he had decided to head into the city to look for a phone booth, if they even existed in the city any more, or look for a police station and attempt to claim that he had been kidnaped as Richard Greyson ward of Bruce Wayne and hope that they believed him, but as he got closer to the center of the city the possibility of ether of those things happening where dwindling. He had long since passed through the streets crowded with the homeless and moved into a ghost like city. The first five minutes after moving out of Skid Row, he found himself in some kind of Jewelry District. Behind the iron gated protection the storefronts where all glass showcases with signs advertising low prices in blaringly bold red letters. Above the street level Robin observed numerous old-timely movie theater signs, each one with faded lettering and big circular light bulbs. Everything above the old theaters and Jewelry stores where apartments that reminded him a lot of what he was used to in Gotham. Apartments with a network of twisted iron fire escapes clinging to their dirty brick walls. It was nostalgic sight and it was a jarring shift when the buildings where suddenly replaced with neck-breakingly tall skyscrapers.
The introduction of this new part of the city put Robin on edge even more than he was already. It was understandable that no one would be around the Skid Row slums and that if all the shops where closed no one would be in that Jewelry area but now that he was in the heart if the city the emptiness was disturbing. Every shop was closed and the streets where virtually empty, so he wondered looking around the empty streets looking for his escape.
-Author's Note-
Why yes that was very short, but "small steps…" or however that saying goes.
I'm going to need a bit of time to redirect this chapter, the whole reason for my year-ish long internet death was I planned for Robin to run around and find a phone booth, them being the person I am I tried to make it overly realistic by leading Robin through the story LA to a corresponding real life phone booth in LA. Sadly the only phone booth I know of is about 15 blocks from where I imagine Robin being right now, and that's way to far away from where the next event that happens in this chapter takes place. So after 4 months trying to write the chapter I gave up.
So for any of you guys still reading my little note I will yet you choose the direction I redirect this chapter:
Option 1: Slade has a failsafe in case Robin runs…
Option 2: Jump straight to the next event…
Option 3: Tell me what you thing should/imagined happening next.
Please comment your choice.
