I've always been fascinated by the fandom theory that Edith Crawley is actually Lady Rosamund's illigitimate daughter. This is my take on that in my usual verbose, meandering style. Now Rated M, for Marriage (and the things married people do).

Summer of 1930 is approaching. Carson and Elsie are finally both retiring and they are celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary. Robert and Cora are giving them a unique gift.

He raises his head to look at the ambulance driver and freezes in shock, certain that he finally has snapped, that his mind could not take it anymore and went straight into hallucination. The driver is a woman, not an uncommon sight those days, but this particular woman has no business being here, in the middle of most literal hell. "Mary?" he rasps, disbelieving.

Elsie Hughes arrives at Downton Abbey as the new head housemaid and is pleasantly surprised by what she finds there.

March 1912 - a baby is abandoned at the doors of Downton Abbey. Servant Thomas Barrow agrees to claim paternity for the foundling. The story mainly revolves around Thomas and his daughter, but the other characters also play a role in every chapter. The characters don't belong to me, only the OC does.

Arbitration: the settling of differences between parties by a person or persons chosen or agreed to by them. In this modern day fic, Mary receives the news that the man she loves is engaged to another and is bringing his new fiancee to her family home to meet everyone. Mary reflects on the news and her feelings regarding it.

The rivalry between the Crawley sisters is at its peak, while Sybil is in Dublin, Edith and Mary are determined to ruin things for each other. How will Mary get back at Edith for the worst deed of them all? As the family exit the dining room one evening, Carson approaches Edith with a letter, "This came for you, M'lady."

While the Crawley's deal with the lingering effects of the depression, Robert struggles with Edward VIII decision to abdicate. Meanwhile, Tom struggles with his identity again after the new Irish Constitution. Amidst it all, Sybbie is coming of age. Main parings will be Cobert and Tom/Lucy but some Mary/Henry (because Robert lives with both, and Tom works with both).

She thought that some things were done, but life has some new adventures for her! Modern AU!
