The Weight of Regrets.

Jill looked at Wesker with attention, but not scared. Although some skills would never be forgotten, she knew she would not be under that situation if she had been training lately. But there was no time to regret, maybe that was her last breath, but for her all that mattered was that she tried to stop Wesker. For her beloved daughter she would try to dodge the next blow, but she felt that she could not resist that fight.
Wesker raised his sword, ready for the kill. Jill watched his move carefully. When Wesker was about to attack her, a man in black outfit and big arms came through the door like a whirlwind pushing Wesker with both hands. Wesker fell sitting on the other side of the room, next to the bookcase. The man then turned to Jill and she can recognize him, it was Chris.
"Jill" he said running towards the gypsy "I knew you were here. Are you okay?"
"I am" she accepted the hand that Chris offered her to stand up.
A loud noise caught their attention they both turned Wesker, who was already on his feet holding two books in his hands. Wesker smiled and took two steps backward, positioning himself next to the bookcase that was beginning to close a passage that would probably lead to a hiding place.
"The party was good and it could get even better, Chris." Wesker got the books up showing them to the two "But there are more important things to me than playing with you two right now. See you sometime."
The passage was then closed by the bookcase and Jill and Chris looked at each other surprised and worried.
"We must do something. We can not leave him with that book." Jill said running to the bookshelf and Chris followed her.
Jill noticed a missing book of the collections, probably the second book that Wesker had in his hands.
"We need to find a way to open this place."
"I believe it is impossible without the correct book, Jill. But I will try something" Chris positioned himself beside the shelves trying to push it with his hands. Despite all strength, it was not enough to move the furniture." It is impossible.
"What do we do now?" Jill asked looking at the floor.
"I don't know, but we don't have much time. That servant who is your friend told me you were here and asked me to help you soon because they are all ready to go, we can not let them down."
"But thinking about what Wesker can do with this book gets me worried."
"If his grandmother, who wrote the book, didn't do anything great, I don't believe he can." Chris said shaking his head. "Besides now we need to protect our daughter."
"Maybe you are right. Let's get together with our family and friends and continue with our plan, it is the only way to protect Claire."
Jill smiled and held Chris' hand for a few seconds. The two looked at each other and shook their heads at the same time, which was enough for both to understand that it was time to leave that place forever.
And that's exactly how it happened, the two ran to Lana and the other soldiers who were waiting for them at the planned place. In a few seconds and everyone was riding their horses towards freedom.

Jill looked at the village of Gypsies with her heart sad. She had little time to convince her father that to leave that place would be the best for everyone. Dick still believed in the advantages he could get if he stayed on Wesker's side, even after Jill told him everything that Wesker did and planned. Although with words she had failed to convince the old pirate, Jill had her last trump card that could certainly change the game.
And that's what happened when Jill put little Claire in his father's arms, he could not resist the little butterfly sweetness and innocence and finally accepted to go with her daughter and her granddaughter to that new journey, but not before looking at Chris with a reprimanding gaze.
"Listen, captain. I wanted to destroy your plans, but in a bland and friendly manner. My goal was to get the governor's trust and make my only daughter his wife. It seems that you turned everything in your favor and then it was you who destroyed my plans, in every possible way. Be sure that I will never like you." Dick looked at the little Claire and smiled "But I love the gift you gave me."
Chris held the laugh back, he just smiled and looked at Jill who smiled at him and nodded.
Now Jill looked at the abandoned village, while the two ships departed towards a new life. The gypsies obeyed Dick's orders but they were sad and upset to leave many things behind, because they had no time to take anything but clothes and food with them.
A piece of their history would be behind, different from the other times when they used to travel back to that place after sometime, Jill knew they could never return there again. Now the governor was an enemy.
Leon then came to her mind, Jill knew that if he came to the village, he would feel bad because Jill and Keith had left without saying goodbye to him.
"Forgive me, Leon" she said softly with tears in her eyes. She just hoped he was well after escaping from prison and that he was happy as he deserved to be.
The decision to leave the place like that was not easy and could be even more difficult if Jill stopped to think more deeply about everything. The only thing that mattered to her at that time was the safety of her little butterfly and for her she would do anything.
Jill sighed and looked at the other ship at her side. Keith nodded at her and Jill smiled for the first time. Hope was not lost. Her friend was responsible for leading the other boat along with Quint, former soldier and now his friend, he was well and that was very important to Jill. Everything would be fine.
The days at sea were very difficult, days they needed to save water and food and everybody was kind of weak and tired. Maybe they were even doubting the place that Chris and Piers spoke about, but after they saw Wonbane far away the ship was in party, those people celebrated the new life that was about to begin.
Chris was received with respect and affection for Nohan, the elder of the community. Within hours everybody was nurtured and they were excited to plan where they would build their houses. A nice place and nice people, there was a different feeling of happiness.
The years followed in peace and harmony. Life in Wonbane was simple, but quiet and that was enough for those people. The only one who complained about that was Dick, who was missing money, jewelry and luxury.
Lana and Gerard had a son named Steve. Lana was responsible for helping mothers during the labor and the first days after the birth of their children.
Rebecca had married one Wonbane boy called Coen, she and her mother developed many natural formulas that acted as medicines and even vaccines for all people, especially children.
Quint and Keith was responsible for training the children to protect themselves in the forest.
Deborah and Piers had a couple of kids. Deborah was responsible for making clothes, along with Helena and Piers used to help Chris in the construction of houses, along with Gerard and the other former soldiers.
Jill became tutor of the children of the community, teaching them to read and write and many other things she knew, especially good values for everyone to become good men and women.
Life went light and calm as the sea breeze. Seeds became big trees as children became the men and women who led that community. Among those grown children, there was Claire.
Claire had become a beautiful woman. She had inherited her father's dark hair and her mother's blue eyes. Claire also inherited the gift of dealing with children, just like Jill or maybe even better.
All remained in peace, without major problems and difficulties. But as there was no eternity to the material world, some losses could not be avoided.

As soon as the doctor walked out the door, Claire hugged Steve for a few seconds. Then she got away from him and wiped a tear from her own face.
"Be Strong" Claire.
"I will try, Steve" she said stroking her seven-month belly bump.
Claire looked at Steve for the last time before entering the room where Jill was, she was lying looking out the window and watching the rain.

Although very ill, her mother was still beautiful. Even the pale skin and dark circles couldn't stop her beauty and the brightness of those beautiful blue eyes.
"Mom" Claire said sitting next to her.
"Claire" Jill said, holding his daughter's hand and trying to smile." I needed to see you for the last time."
"Do not say that, mother. It is not..."
"Sweetie, you know that my time has come." Jill took a deep breath before continuing "Since you father died I wait for this day when I will meet him. This is not a bad time. I was a good wife, I tried to educate all children and love them as if they were my own children and I believe I was a good mother to you."
"You were the best." Claire said feeling more tears running down her face.
"So there is nothing to fear, my daughter. The righteous doesn't need not fear death, because death is only a passage. My judge is my own conscience and my conscience is calm and happy, then I'm leaving for a good place to meet the man I love."
"You will not know your grandchild..."
Jill looked at Claire's belly with watery eyes.
"I'll meet him or her because I will come to visit you and you will feel me, dear. For there is no distance to hearts that truly love each other. After your father became ill and died I could still feel him because he will always belong to my heart." Jill took a deep breath again "Be strong, daughter, since this is just a natural course of life."
Jill took Claire's hand to his lips and kissed it gently. She looked back at the window, where she saw the reflection of the sun becoming more intense.
Claire watched her mother smile and close her eyes slowly. At that moment Jill dropped her daughter's hand and Claire knew what had just happened. Although she believed in everything that Jill had just told her, Claire could not avoid the deep pain she felt, she leaned over the bed, weeping copiously, her mother left.

Sitting on a bench, Jill watched the garden. She was delighted with so many different flowers of vibrant colors. She had never thought in her life that there was a nature even more beautiful than the one she knew. But it was possible and she was in front of it.
"Jill, are you ready?" Isabel asked her daughter.
"Yes. I will always be ready for him, mother. So many months waiting for this moment."
"I know. But you could not meet him before, Jill. You had to recover first, even here we must be careful with strong emotions."
"I understand, mom, I will control myself."
"Then look behind you."
Jill looked back immediately and saw Chris, standing and wearing light-colored clothing. Without thinking she ran into his arms. Though she could not help the tears, Jill tried to stay calm.
"I missed you so much." She said hugging him close.
"I've dreamed of this moment every day since I got to this place." Chris said, smelling her hair.
"I'll leave you two alone." Isabel said "I think there are many things that you need to talk" she said walking away.
Jill and Chris did not say anything to her because they remained hugging for a few minutes in silence.
"Jill, let's sit down." he cut the silence. "There are some things I need to tell you."
Jill did what he asked and sat down, holding his hand between her delicate ones.
"I'm fine, but guilt is torturing me sometimes."
"Guilt?" Jill opened her frightened eyes "Why guilt? You were a great man ... Wait, guilt for killing?"
"It hurts. But that's not what tortures me. But all the doom we could have avoided and we didn't."
"How come, Chris? Be clear."
"My mentor told me everything that happened since we left for Wonbane. Wesker went ahead with his plans. He found some gypsy girl, he had a son with her. With that he got what he wanted to do to deal with spirits of darkness. In this pact, Wesker got an army of shadows. Wesker then went to war with Spencer and during the battle, Spencer had the double of Wesker's soldiers, but the governor had something that changed everything. Although an army of spirits would not be able to kill soldiers, they could control certain forces. Wesker then attracted the soldiers to a valley, where the spirits caused a landslide, burying almost Spencer's entire army alive. Wesker won the battle that enabled him to take Spencer's place. But he was not satisfied, he continue conquering small and large towns in the north of Pine Hill and he killed many people, some were tortured and some enslaved. There were thousands of victims, thousands of broken families. He managed to live as the god he wanted to, shedding tears and blood wherever he went."
"Oh my God! But Chris, is this our responsibility? We could not imagine ..." Jill said feeling watery eyes.
"Jill, the book enabled him to get everything he wanted, without the book the number of victims would be not so big, certainly. No one is blaming me or you, it's just my conscience telling me that I could have prevented many deaths if I had done everything to get that book at that time. I was only worried about you and Claire. Now a part of me asks myself to fix this error."
"But how could you fix this error now, Chris?"
"Wesker died but according mentors he will stay one or two centuries trapped in darkness. I'll be studying during that time and training, for when he has a new opportunity to reincarnate I want to come near him, so I will have a chance to stop him if he has one of his insane ideas again."
"I need to do something too, Chris. After all, we were together in all this and I'm the one who gave the book to him personally."
"You can help the victims of Wesker who have died and who are here."
"But I want to prepare to go with you when you reincarnate too."
"Jill, this mission to stop Wesker is very delicate. I cannot have a normal life. Wife and children would take my focus again. To stop him, I need to focus my life on it otherwise I'll fail."
Jill smiled and took Chris' hand to her face, kissing her gently.
"Chris, my love for you is so big it can be sublimated. I loved you as a man, but I also loved you as my friend in all the years we spent together. I'm able to love you as a friend again, as my partner, because I am happy just to be next to you, to hear your voice. I have my share of responsibility for everything that happened too, so I will prepare myself and go with you."
"Oh Jill!" Chris hugged her tight before looking into her eyes "I can only say that I am happy and grateful to know that you will be with me. It'll be difficult not to fall in love with you, but we can't fail again. I love you so much my gypsy, I'll be happy to have you by my side."
"Chris ... As a wife or as a partner, it doesn't matter. I'll be there for you for the eternity."
"A happy eternity." Chris kissed her gently on the lips, before hugging her again.
Jill knew it would not be easy to be next to him only as a partner, but they would have time to get prepared for that and all that mattered to her was to be with him and fix that slip that resulted in the deaths of so many people.
It was impossible to guess what would be Wesker's plan to conquer and dominate people when he returned to earth, but Jill believed he would not be regenerated yet. He'd find some way to have power again.
Feeling the arms of Chris wrap her, she closed her eyes for a few seconds. Fate would put all the pieces together in that board of life in the right time. It would be a game of forces again, evil would try to win once again but she and her loyal partner would be there, this time they would be more prepared to face it.
In the magic of reincarnation, the evil could win some battles, but the good that regenerated all beings would win the great war of eternity. Where every one would become good and righteous one day.
