The Curse of Destiny

Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight. I wish I did, but I don't. I own this plot line (originally it was a short story I wrote for a college class and I decided to turn it into a longer fanfiction story). I hope you all like it.

Description: The doctors threw around the term "Stockholm's Syndrome." All Bella knew was that she missed her kidnapper and wasn't sure how to function without him anymore. She needed him and she had to get back to him…somehow. Could she love Edward, the man who had both abducted her and stolen her heart? Could she live without him? Time will tell…

Author's Note: Hello everyone! I know it has been FOREVER, but my family has been super busy. When I went to update my stories I noticed that I was unable to manage my stories in my account so I had to wait for to fix the issue. I will not abandon my stories. I will post as regularly as I can. I am so sorry for the long delay. I hope you are anxious to continue with the story. I will start with a brief summary so that you remember what the story is about.

Summary: Edward saved Bella from Mike Newton's assault and kidnapped her. He took her to his cabin and proceeds to care for her while keeping her imprisoned. He tells Bella that her parents planned to marry her off at the age of eighteen to sexist Jacob Black. Bella doesn't want to marry Jacob. Bella is confused by her developing feelings for her kidnapper. She tries to get away once and hurts her ankle. Edward inherited the little house from his Uncle Carlisle after his death. He sells music compositions to get by. When he turns 21, he will be incredibly wealthy. This chapter takes place after Bella's second escape attempt. Edward saves Bella from a mountain lion and then gets her warm before she gets sick. They share a passionate kiss, but then Edward stops it and she drifts off to sleep in his arms as he whispers, "I love you." Last chapter we saw into Edward's mind a little bit. Please let me know if that is something you would like to see more often.

Chapter 16 – A New Beginning – Bella's POV

I had expected anger. I had expected Edward to lock me in my room, tie me up, and be angry with me. He wasn't. We spent the night by the fire and in the morning Edward helped me get back to the cabin. My ankle was still tender and he was very careful with me and steered me away from stray rocks or underbrush in my path. He offered to carry me, but I knew we had a ways to go and I wasn't sure if I could handle being that close to him that long without feeling anything.

I was falling for my kidnapper. As insane as it sounds, I did not fear him and I was starting to forget why I wanted to return to my old life. Aside from Alice, what did I really have to go back to? I know it sounds crazy, but I am not sure I want to venture back into that world anymore. It would be so easy to lose myself out here with Edward. It would be so easy to forget where I came from. I didn't miss my father and his domineering presence. I didn't miss Jacob Black's wandering hands. I didn't miss Billy Black's intense stares. I didn't miss the meekness of my mother. I only missed Alice and her fiery disposition. I knew I would see her again, but probably not for a while.

My mind processed all these thoughts as I followed Edward. I remained quiet and thoughtful. I wasn't about to clue Edward in to what I was thinking about right now. I still had to process these feelings. However, I knew I needed to confess something.

"I stole your journal." I blurted out.

Edward stopped walking and turned to face me with an unreadable expression on his handsome face.

"Did you read it?" He asked quietly as he gazed at me intently.

I nodded. "A little."

Edward nodded too. We started walking again and I was sure he wasn't going to say anything when he began speaking again. "Did it…did it help you…I mean did it make you understand me a little?"

I was shocked. How could that be the thought on his mind? I had invaded his privacy and read his most private and intimate thoughts. I would be furious if I kept a journal and someone read it. I answered his question. "It did." He nodded again and I couldn't resist. I reached out and grabbed his hand to stop him. "Aren't you angry with me?"

Edward looked confused. "Why would I be angry with you?"

"I read your most private thoughts. I know what that's like. I shouldn't have done that. I was just curious about you. I thought it might shed some light on…well...you."

He smiled at me. He brushed a stray strand of my hair behind my ear and my breath hitched in spite of myself. "I'm not angry. I want you to know all about me. I don't want to have any secrets from you, Bella."

I know he could read the surprise on my face because his face broke out into an all-consuming grin. "I kidnapped you and you read my journal. Do you think we could call it even?"

I surprised myself by laughing heartily at his joke. "I don't think so." I told him seriously. He nods and reaches his hand up again this time to caress my cheek.

"I love your laugh. I have never heard it like that before. It is the most beautiful sound in the world."

My heart started racing at his words. I know they were cheesy, but they were laced with sincerity and I knew it wasn't a line. He was being completely honest with me. I couldn't respond. He dropped his hand and we started walking slowly again.

"You can keep it, the journal, and read it all if you want to read it. I think it might explain me better than I can explain myself." He said quietly.

"Are you sure?" I asked. He nodded.

"I'm sure. Can I ask you a question?"

"Of course."

"You said you knew what it felt like to have someone invade your privacy and read your private thoughts. What happened?"

I looked down as I walked and started talking. "I used to keep a journal too. Before I met Alice, I didn't have anyone to talk to and I needed someone to confide in. I wrote all my thoughts in my journal. I came home from school one day and my parents had my journal on the table. My dad had highlighted sections to talk to me about. It was awful, degrading, and infuriating. I stopped writing after that."

Edward turned to me and pulled me into his arms. I hugged him back. "I'm so sorry that happened to you."

I didn't know what to say, and I wanted to avoid crying so I kept quiet. The tears blurred my eyes. We stood there for several minutes until I felt calm enough to pull away. "I've never told anyone that before."

Edward smiled. "I hope you will continue to confide in me, Bella. When we get back I will give you some time alone. Read my journal. I will answer any questions you might have. I want to be honest with you."

I smile at him. "Okay." I tell him. I am dying to read his thoughts. I want to know all about Edward. I want to know why he chose me and why all of a sudden I was so grateful that he had.

I hope you liked this chapter. I would love to hear your thoughts! The next chapter will be filled with sections of Edward's journal as Bella reads. I am so sorry I was gone for so long everyone and I hope you can forgive me. I will try to post the next chapter soon! Please review!

Thanks everyone!
