Hey, yall! Thanks for the 28 reviews on the last chapter! ^.^Hehe I'm glad everyone liked Luca! I wasn't sure if you would, but he's a necessity. I know I say this a bunch...like every chapter...but I swear this reaaally was suppose be posted yesterday. But I've been really sick over the weekend and yesterday, ugh, it was horrible. Plus I had a migraine on top of my sickness and I kept accidentally falling asleep...probably because I barely slept any the night before... Anyways, hope you enjoy the chapter!
Disclaimer: I have too much to do to try and own Ghost Hunt right now! O.O Maybe one day though...
Mai's POV
As we all began to walk back towards the Davis' house from the cars, Luella and Madoka raced passed the rest of us. I silently sighed. 'Those two women have more energy than anyone I've ever seen...' I raised an amused eyebrow and looked behind me at Lin and Martin to see them shaking their heads while smiling. Then my eyes shifted to Naru, whose eyes widened a fraction as he stared after his mother and Madoka, and he looked slightly paler than normal. I guess he realized something...
Suddenly he grabbed my wrist and hurriedly began to pull me along. I struggled to keep up with his extra long strides. Though Naru seemed to notice my stumbling, he didn't slow down any. He just tightened his grip on my wrist.
"Na-Naru! Slow down! What's wrong with you?!" I tried to ask, but he paid me no attention. As we entered the house he dragged me upstairs to, assumingly, his room. Just as we were almost there Luella and Madoka popped out of nowhere and started snapping pictures of us like crazy. The flashes left us blind and seeing spots everywhere. I heard Naru give a slight groan. He must have known this was going to happen.
"Mother!" He growled. The two women stopped taking pictures and pouted.
"What? We were in a hurry to leave for the ball so I didn't get to take any before! You and Mai look so adorable, I just needed a few photos!" Luella cried out with Madoka nodding in agreement beside her. She raised her camera up towards us again. "Now, can I have one of you two kissing? On the lips this time?"
Naru narrowed his eyes. "We're going to bed." He stated testily, avoiding his mother's questions. "I suggest you two do the same." Then he grasped my hand and finished tugging me into his room. Once he closed the door, he released my hand and sighed frustrated while facing the door.
I lowered my gaze before silently moving to his bed and sitting on the edge of it. 'Well, that had been embarrassing...' I thought with a blush adorning my cheeks. Even just the thought of kissing Naru... My eyes widened a bit as I suddenly remembered I did almost kiss Naru a few days ago! That just seemed to make my cheeks flare up more. Fearing that he would turn around and see my blush, I quickly stood up and began to get my night-clothes.
"I'm going to take a shower first." I told him before scurrying into his private bathroom. In doing so I missed the glance he sent in my direction at my words. And because I was panicking about him seeing my face, I completely forgot I use the bathroom down the hall instead of Naru's. I sighed and decided to suck it up this once. I'll apologize later.
I stepped back into the bedroom after taking my shower. However, I paused as I saw Naru lying on top of the covers on his bed with an arm slung over his eyes lazily. I've never seen him in that kind of laid back position before. Despite how tense he seemed, I briefly wondered if he had already fallen asleep. My question was soon answered though when he suddenly sat up as if sensing my presence, which he must have somehow.
"Um...you can take one now..." I said a bit awkwardly as he stared at me with a stoic expression. Naru just let out a breath as he stood. While he collected his clothes, I walked to 'my side' of the bed and sat down. I watched him as he disappeared into his bathroom without a single word or one glance towards me. With a sigh, I leaned back on to the bed all sprawled out and stared up at the ceiling. 'Why does it feel like he's trying to avoid me?'
It took ten to fifteen minutes before Naru stepped back into his room. By then I was properly lying down on my side as I absently stared at the door, so my back would be facing Naru. And still, without a word, Naru came and laid down beside me. I knew without even looking that our backs were facing each other. 'Is he really mad at me? Why though? He seemed completely fine earlier...' I swallowed thickly. The atmosphere around us just seemed tense to me. I tried to think of anything that happened since we arrived back at the house that would make him mad at me.
"I...I'm sorry I used your bathroom... I was caught up in my thoughts and forgot that I use the one in the hall." I apologized quietly. It was stupid to think he'd be angry over something so petty as me using his private bathroom, I know. He would have just make a snide remark if it really bothered him. It was worth a shot though, plus it'd be a good way of getting him to talk—if he would and didn't just ignore me that is.
"It's fine." He replied shortly. I thought that was all he was going to say, but he surprised me when he continued after a few moments. "It doesn't bother me. In fact I had been wondering why you would use the one in the hallway instead of mine. It's stupid of you honestly."
Slight anger spiked me. "How?!"
"You use the one down the hall when you could use mine that's only a few steps away. It's just a bathroom, Mai." I could imagine him rolling his eyes at me.
"Well, excuse me for thinking you'd want your private bathroom to be private!"
"As I've said, it's only a bathroom. You're already sharing my bed, I don't think a bathroom will matter much." He retorted. A tint of pink appeared my cheeks. I didn't want him to know I was embarrassed so I just decided to huff instead. 'Whoever said you had to share a bed with me, you jerk?! I told you I'd sleep on the floor, but nooooo!' It was several minutes later before I spoke again.
"So...then why are you mad at me?" I hesitantly asked as I slowly turned on to my other side so I could look at him...well, his back.
"Mad at you...?" Naru questioned in disbelief before rolling over on his back to look at me. "I'm not mad at you, Mai."
"Then what are you angry about? I know you are... After we got to your house, your attitude changed or something." I saw his midnight blue eyes glistened in the darkened room as he watched me carefully.
"I just have a lot of things on my mind. Everything that happened during the past two weeks." He admitted. I gave a small nod in understanding. It's kind of hard for me not to think about it too, but our reasons are probably the complete opposite.
"Have you come to a conclusion about this...situation?" I whispered. Naru shook his head slightly and gave no verbal reply. I lowered my gaze from him. "Do you...do you know when we'll be leaving and going back to Japan?" The thought actually saddened me a bit. 'I'm getting too attached... Bad Mai, you knew this wouldn't be a real thing from the beginning.'
"It's Wednesday now, so we'll probably leave Saturday...if Mother doesn't let us leave sooner." He responded. Not wanting to say anything else on the subject, I just gave another nod.
"Okay...night, Naru."
"...Goodnight, Mai."
"Come on, Mai. Wake up." I felt someone shaking my shoulder gently, but when I wouldn't respond—because I refused to leave the warmth of the blankets—they did it more vigorously. "Now." With a huff, I slowly opened my eyes to see Naru already fully dressed with a slight annoyed expression.
"Whaaaat?"
"Get up and let's go eat breakfast." He ordered, turning around to walk to the door. He just expects me to follow him. I groaned before sitting up and rubbing my eyes. Knowing I better do as told to save me from the consequences, I hurried up and got dressed then I met Naru outside the room. We walked downstairs together and into the dining room where we saw Martin and Lin eating breakfast. Strange, I wonder where Luella and Madoka were. When we sat down the two maids came in and gave me and Naru our plates.
"Tha-nks." I turned my head to look up at Melissa. She smiled and nodded before leaving with Angela.
"Where are Mother and Madoka?" Naru asked. He must have been wondering the same thing as me.
"I believe they're talking on the phone with Caroline Reed somewhere. Knowing those three, they're probably gossiping about the party last night." Martin chuckled. I smiled after taking a bite of my food.
"Is Mrs. Reed just like them two?" I questioned curiously. I knew I didn't have to explain myself further. I may have only known Luella for almost two weeks and saw Madoka a few times out of the year or two I've known her, but we all know how Madoka and Luella can be.
"She's a bit more..." Martin trailed off as if trying to find the right words.
"Calm? Not as insane? More polite?" Lin suggested. Martin glanced at Lin with a nod of appreciation before moving his gaze on me.
"Yes. What Lin said." Was his response, making me giggle slightly. I was halfway finished eating when Naru's father addressed me again. "Mai, would you like to do a bit of sightseeing today?"
I blinked. "Sightseeing?" Before Naru had a chance to comment I spoke again. "And before you said anything, Naru, I know what sightseeing means."
"I wasn't going to say anything." He claimed while giving a small smirk. I rolled my eyes, not believing him.
"Sure you weren't." I muttered. Martin gave a laugh before getting back on topic.
"Well, since you've been here, you had been preparing for the party and you haven't been able to get out much aside from Luella and Madoka dragging you out to go shopping. So if you wanted I thought you'd like to see some of our famous sights around here." He stated. I mentally grinned in excitement at the thought. However I wasn't sure if Naru thought it'd be okay so I glanced at him. He kept eating and paid no attention to me so I took that as a sign of approval. Giving a shy nod at Martin, I smiled brightly.
"Sure. I'd love that."
He nodded. "Alright, then we'll go after—" Unfortunately Martin was cut off by Luella and Madoka running in and squealing like two fangirls. Those two screaming together like that could break the china glasses...ah, wait, did I just hear a crack?
"NOLL!"
"MAI!" The two yelled at us while grinning.
"Will you two stop screaming?" Naru asked irritably with a glare. However the women blatantly ignored him.
"AH! Why didn't you two tell us you were getting married?!" Luella demanded. The roll I was putting into my mouth at that time suddenly went flying across the table upon her words. Lin watched it as it went by him in amusement. Martin looked shocked and I think Naru choked on his own spit from the surprise.
"W-what—?!" I was also ignored though.
"Caroline was just telling us how many people she heard say that you two were finally engaged!" Luella cried out from happiness. I blushed madly. 'F-Finally?! Didn't Naru only say we were suppose to have been dating for three months or something? And she thinks that is too long?!' But of course they weren't done talking...far from it actually. "Now why didn't you tell us? I had to find out from Caroline, who said someone directly told her that they heard Noll tell them that you were engaged!"
Naru and I shared a glance. We both knew when our eyes connected that neither one of us said such a thing to anyone. I suddenly remembered last night when Luca had asked me if I was Oliver Davis' fiancée. 'Stupid rumors...'
"Mother, that isn't—"
"Oh, Luella! We should starting planning the wedding as soon as possible!" Madoka exclaimed. Luella nodded in agreement.
"Ma-Madoka, Naru and I—"
"Oh, you're right! We have to figure out the flowers, the food, the colors!" Luella counted off her fingers before clapping her hands together. Her eyes sparkled. "Of course we'll have to take Mai shopping for her dress and shoes and everything else—Noll will have to go for a tux too, but separate outings! Noll can't see Mai's dress! They'll have to set a date, and where it's going to be held! Ah, invitations!" My head was spinning now. "What else am I forgetting...?"
"Their honeymoon!" Madoka giggled. "Where do you they should go? Rome, Paris, or Spain?!" Luella just laughed like that was a silly question.
"Y-You can't—" Once again, I was interrupted. I was getting frustrated.
"Why not all three?!" She suggested.
"Mother—"
"Ooh, as always I love the way you think, Luella!" The pink-haired woman stated, nudging the older woman in the arm.
"Okay, so now—"
"STOP!" I suddenly yelled, standing up to prove a point. I couldn't take this anymore. They're starting to plan a wedding that doesn't exist nor will ever exist and they need to be told straight. Everyone's eyes snapped on me at my outburst. I looked directly at Luella and Madoka though. "Naru and I are not getting married! What you heard was just a rumor! You shouldn't jump to conclusions so fast and you should let us explain! And even if we were getting married—which we're not—you can't just start planning it all by yourselves instantly! We've only been dating for three—"
"Two." Naru corrected, mumbling it from beside me.
"—two months also! Do you really think we'd get married so soon?! I just graduated high school, not even a week ago, I'm not ready to get married and start a family already! I really do love you two, but please stop!" By the end of my ranting, I was panting slightly from being out of breath. The whole house seemed dead silent after the last word I spoke echoed through it. A minute or two passed before Luella slowly started walking towards me with a blank expression. I suddenly began to feel a little frightened. Was she one of those mothers, like in the movies, who is super nice, but when you finally stand up to them, they became evil and threaten you?
Luella gave me a sad smile when she came to a stop in front of me. Then she cupped my left cheek.
"Of course, dear... I'm sorry; you're right, I should have listened to you and Noll. I was just so happy about hearing it... I'm sorry." She dropped her hand before turning away and walking out the room with Madoka. Wide-eyed, I plopped back down in my chair, shocked at myself—and relieved that she didn't threaten me or anything.
"What...what did I just do?" I asked in disbelief to no one in particular. Naru and Lin smirked while Martin just laughed.
"I believe you finally stood up to my mother." Naru seemed somewhat proud. "Don't worry about it. With the way she is, everyone has to do it sooner or later. Trust me."
Hehe! Omg I had sooo much fun writing the part with Luella and Madoka coming in and down from there! XD So I hope it was fun to read and made yall laugh!
To those of you who don't read my other story Stay Safe: As I had said in its latest chapter, I'm reaaally going to try to keep my updates the same—hopefully better—but if I don't then it's because of school. I started school again on Aug. 18th. I'm a junior in high school now and I'm also getting prepared for college and everything too! My mom also signed me up for a PSAT test for next month, which I've never ever taken before so I'm nervous... which is why I'll be studying for the next month and a half! -.-
Please review! ^.^
