The Curse of Destiny
Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight. I wish I did, but I don't. I own this plot line (originally it was a short story I wrote for a college class and I decided to turn it into a longer fanfiction story). I hope you all like it.
Description: The doctors threw around the term "Stockholm's Syndrome." All Bella knew was that she missed her kidnapper and wasn't sure how to function without him anymore. She needed him and she had to get back to him…somehow. Could she love Edward, the man who had both abducted her and stolen her heart? Could she live without him? Time will tell…
Author's Note: Hello everyone! I know it has been FOREVER, but my family has been super busy. I will not abandon my stories. I will post as regularly as I can. I am so sorry for the long delay. I hope you are anxious to continue with the story. I will start with a brief summary so that you remember what the story is about.
Summary: Edward saved Bella from Mike Newton's assault and kidnapped her. He took her to his cabin and proceeds to care for her while keeping her imprisoned. He tells Bella that her parents planned to marry her off at the age of eighteen to sexist Jacob Black. Bella doesn't want to marry Jacob. Bella is confused by her developing feelings for her kidnapper. She tries to get away once and hurts her ankle. Edward inherited the little house from his Uncle Carlisle after his death. He sells music compositions to get by. When he turns 21, he will be incredibly wealthy. This chapter takes place after Bella's second escape attempt. Edward saves Bella from a mountain lion and then gets her warm before she gets sick. They share a passionate kiss, but then Edward stops it and she drifts off to sleep in his arms as he whispers, "I love you." Last chapter we saw into Edward's mind a little bit. Please let me know if that is something you would like to see more often.
Chapter 17 – No Longer A Prison – Bella's POV
It has been four months since I had tried to run away and I no longer try to leave. Edward no longer locks me in my room. It has been nearly five months since I was abducted. Edward and I have become friends…I think. We talk. He tells me about his evil father and how his uncle had done everything he could to try and save him. I read his journal and Edward fills in the holes.
Edward tells me that he had been watching me for months, waiting for the time to introduce himself and warn me of the agreement between my father and Jacob's. He saw Mike try to hurt me and he knew he wouldn't have another opportunity to really get close to me in time and I believe him.
I believe he wants what is best for me even if he doesn't really even know what that is. I still have my guard up and Edward has been the perfect gentleman. He hasn't tried to approach me or kiss me. He has just talked to me and tried to be my friend.
I offered to cook dinner for him this evening and he is watching me as I make a pasta sauce and bring the water in the pan to a boil.
"Why?" I ask quietly. "Why me?"
Edward doesn't say anything for a while and I grow self-conscious. I feel him stand up as the chair creaks back. I feel his presence behind me as my skin tingles in anticipation to his close proximity.
"It will always be you for me, Bella. I can't explain it really." He clears his throat and continues anyway. "I am drawn to you and I have been since I first saw you, but it is more than that. You are all that I want and I hope that someday you will feel the same for me as well."
I turn around and face him and he is very close to me. I lean back against the small stove and his hand reaches up to caress my face. "It will always be you."
I start to lean in and then move back. My hand upsets the boiling water and it falls over my hands and I howl in agony. Edward is there immediately and pulls me over to the sink and runs cool water over my hands. His face is all worry and I hiss in relief as the cool water momentarily calms my throbbing skin.
"Keep your hands there under the water. I am going to get the medical kit. Please stay put." He places a gentle kiss on my forehead without much thought and I can feel the tenderness in his unplanned gesture. He returns to my side less than a minute later and pulls my hands from under the stream of water and dries them gently. He then applies an ointment to my already reddened skin.
I hiss a little when it burns my skin, but then sigh in relief as it seems to drain the pain out of my wounds. "I'm sorry." I tell him quietly and he shakes his head.
"It was an accident, Bella. I shouldn't have distracted you. I'm sorry I hurt you, believe me that is the last thing I would ever want to happen."
Edward's eyes are downcast as he bandages my hands gently. I take in his distressed appearance and after he has finished with his work, I place my hand against his smooth cheek. He leans into it gently and finally looks up to meet my eyes.
"Edward, this wasn't your fault. I'm fine. Thanks for taking care of the burns."
His eyes burn with intensity as they stare into mine. "I will always take care of you, Bella. Even when you are free of me, I will always be there…waiting for you to change your mind."
This comment should completely turn me off and make me turn away, but instead I am overwhelmed with a flurry of emotions. Something about him his endearing and his emotions for me touch my heart. I feel my own feelings for my abductor start to grow as I lean in and kiss him softly on the lips.
"My captor…and my protector." I say quietly and he grins against my mouth.
"You are the one who has held me captive since I set eyes on you."
His words make me shudder as he presses his lips more firmly against my own and initiates a much deeper kiss and I throw caution to the wind and kiss him back just as passionately. I forget that I have been kidnapped. I forget that this man is obviously unhinged and I just allow myself to feel something for the first time in my life without any regret or second guesses.
I hope you liked this chapter. I wanted to jump ahead a little bit and the next chapter will jump ahead a little bit as well. Are any of you surprised she is falling for him?
