Chapter 4

Abandoned

The festival was by far the most amazing thing they'd ever seen. The animal folk danced and sang and they made a huge buffet and it was the most delicious food the warriors had ever had. Naruto sat close to Zoro at all times, holding his arm, talking in his ear, and trying to dance with him. Zoro smiled at him with a gentleness that even Luffy had never seen in him before.

As for Luffy himself, he was more than happy to dance and participate while Sasuke merely watched. Females approached him and tried to dance with him but he brushed them off politely and danced alone but always casting lustful gazes at the cat youkai.

"The women seem awefully grabby today..." Zoro murmured as he shrugged a shoulder when one girl with long pink hair came and tried to wrap her arms around him from behind. Naruto looked down, not missing the glare she shot him.

"The mating season is starting soon. They're trying to partner up and you guys are new..." He whispered. Zoro nodded in understanding and put his arm around the blonde.

"I see. Well, out of all these youkai, none are as pretty as you. I wouldn't mind mating to you when I return... or... did you want children as well?" Zoro whispered quietly, nervously.

"I'd like to. I think... I wouldn't mind having a kid. I mean it is my duty after all to leave another kyuubi behind but being a parent in and of itself sounds... wonderful. I'm so envious of you.. You have two kids already... Sometimes my dad looks at me with this look on his face.. and he thanks me for being born as his son and I just... I want that as well. That happiness... just being thankful that something exists... that I actively and purposely created it..." He smiled and Zoro felt a bit... let down. Of course Naruto would want a wife to have kids with... He should've expected it.

"Oh... yeah... I suppose being a parent is quite fun.." He whispered quietly. Naruto leaned on him and grinned, just happy that the burly man agreed.

~ MEANWHILE ~

Madara stepped out of his cave with a sultry smile. For a second, there was a spark of life in Obito's eye once more and then it was snuffed out with the older male's fist on his face. He just loved the sense of triumph he got from crushing the hope and reason from his toy. He whistled shrilly, and his generals, all powerful youkai, gathered near him.

"Tonight we assemble the army and when the moon reaches it's peak, we march. We will crush them all under way tonight and then I will own all of the youkai world, one by one." He sneered. His men gave their approval and quickly prepared themselves and their platoons.

"So many soldiers at once? Big mistake, Madara. For a general, you have low wits." Orochimaru sneered from his usual tree.

"What do you mean? you said they will die by my hand." Madara hissed as he approached.

"He means that you are jumping the gun you incomprehensible twit." A voice that Madara hadn't heard in quite a while spoke from behind him. Smooth as silk and as accusatory as the day they'd met. He looked over his shoulder at his mate who stood there, a fur wrapped around his waist and his chest and legs littered with scars, none so noticable as the burn marks across his face. But in his single eye, there was a deep rooted, burning rage. The kind that had disappeared ten years ago. "You left me unchained. Fool." Obito said quietly. Madara glowered. He really hated being treated like an idiot by those inferior to himself.

"And what, pray tell, would you know about it? Slut?" Madara grabbed his troat but Obito showed no fear. Only hatred. Madara wanted fear, terror, horro, anything other than that damned pride and disgust on the man's face.

"They will leave this place. They do not wish to be caught up in your war. But if they leave now... if you let them leave... they will become the heroes the others are hoping for. Their target is Donquixote Doflammingo. Get him to join you... and surely things will go your way. but it requires careful planning and meticulous control, the likes of which you do not have." Obito said softly, staring into the older man's eyes. "You know my abilities. The trees have told me everything you will never know."

"And so...? What do you think I should do? How should I persuade a human to join me?" Madara slowly released his mate's neck.

"Let me go speak to him. You may send someone to accompany me, or come with me yourself. I'll make him see that this is his only course of action." Obito whispered, a ghost of a smirk crossing his fine features. Madara pulled him into a crushing kiss that he did not return.

"Why are you helping me?" He whispered against cold, unyeilding lips.

"I am to die soon regardless. I'd rather it be by the hands of someone I love... than by yours. So if I must betray them to recieve that, then so be it." Obito said with a firm, unwavering voice. Madara didn't mind that answer at all.

"So be it." He decided.

~ LATER THAT NIGHT IN KONOHA ~

Luffy leaned against Sasuke's cave wall and locked eyes with Zoro. After a hard night of partying, the youkai boys were sleeping peacefully and heavily but the two warriors were wide awake.

"A shitstorm is coming..." Zoro whispered and Luffy nodded.

"If we are going to move... it has to be now..." The smaller male said. He stood slowly and stretched his legs.

Zoro leaned over the blonde beside him and placed a gentle kiss on his brow. "I'll be back. I swear it," He promised in a whisper.

"So you're serious about this?" Luffy questioned. Zoro stood and collected his weapons before leveling Luffy with an sincere stare.

"We have to. Whether I want to or not, I have to." He said as they headed out. Luffy nodded.

"Maaaaa~ Sounds good enough to me. As long as you're sure about it, I'm game." Luffy said with a whistle. "You know... Shanks once said to me... "Humans don't belong in a fight between cats and dogs." I think I finally understand what he meant!" Luffy laughed. Zoro chuckled a bit as well.

~ THE SMILE ARMY ~

"So, my fine feline friend, I don't remember you name so forgive me, what can I do for you?" Donquixote Doflammingo was a slimeball of a man who slaughtered first and asked questions second. The only reason he was listening now was because every single one of his best soldiers was currently suspended in the air by large tree roots. Obito sat in front of him calmly and put his hands together. Doflammingo's eyes moved to his right hand man Trafalgar Law who sat unmoving and uncaring at what was happening around them. His hallow eyes seemed to be sparked with interest for the scarred and tortured one-eyed youkai in front of him.

"I need some of your assitance. You see, this disgusting waste of life behind me is trying to rule the youkai world. But he's being troubled by a prophetic hero duo who escaped death by your army. They're after your head. So you are our bait to kill them." Obito said.

"and... if I refuse?" He questioned with a grin.

"There is no refusing. You come willingly... or I kill your men, ALL of them," He looked pointedly at Law, "And take you by force. As you can see, I am perfectly capable of it. But I'm sure you won't refuse when you hear their names. I know you've got a... bit of a boner for these men."

"Well now I'm interested." The slimeball leaned foreward with a smirk. "So who are they?"

"Roronoa Zoro... and Monkey D Luffy." Obito said. Madara looked at him with a quirked brow but said nothing. He honestly had no idea the man he had tortured into submission was such a... smooth talker... and informant.

"HA! Really now? Well I'll be damned! I'll come along for sure! But on two conditions. The first... is that Law here comes with. He's my best man. Whereever I go, he goes."

Madara made to protest but Obito held up his hand. "Done." He said easily. "And the second?"

"I want to kill that little tai chi strawhatted bastard myself!" He bit out.

"Consider his life yours for the taking." Obito smirked, knowing who won this and revelling in how quickly his plan was coming to fruition. With the object of Zoro's hatred in their care, the heroes would have no choice but to come back and fulfill their roles as the prophesized ones and then they would wipe out Madara and his entire camp and hopefully Obito as well. They would clear out the rotting wastes of life that follow the deranged Uchiha and save Obito's home just like he planned.

~MORNING KONOHA~

Minato awoke to Kakashi shaking him roughly and gazing at him with somber eyes. "They're coming." He whispered. Minato was instantly awake and at the ready.

"How many?" He questioned. Kakashi shook his head.

"I'm not sure... maybe 30? We don't have enough soldiers for that. These people were raised to be peaceful..." The wolf said.

"We have to beg the warriors..." Minato left his hut as quickly as possible and moved towards the Uchiha Cave. He casted a pointed look at Kakashi first. "Go, take four of our best with you and head them off. Try to delay them." He said. Kakashi sprinted towards the east and Minato entered the cave. He froze on his foot when he saw only the two boys sleeping soundly. The warriors were gone...

"WE'RE LOST?! WHY DID I LET YOU LEAD?" Luffy screeched.

"You're asking me? i've been following the trees. Moss grows that way... so west is that way." Zoro said pointing to a tree. Luffy could've strangled him.

"The sun rises in the EAST! Moss grows to the NORTH!" He yelled before running in the other direction as fast as he could with Zoro close on his heels.

"Your eye... I can help you... I do medicinal magic... I learned it from a youkai named Tsunade" Law said quietly, his fingers brushing gently over the youkai's face.
