Après la Bataille des Cinq Armées, Bard prend conscience qu'il ne va pas bien. Thranduil est cependant apte à comprendre ce que traverse l'ancien batelier et s'engage à l'aider sans contrepartie. Leur relation prend un tournant inattendu et Elfe et Homme se rapprochent, comprenant alors que chacun, à sa manière, va aider l'autre à se reconstruire et à réapprendre à vivre.
