Bella POV

As I stepped out from the thick forrest onto the familiar gravel road, I let out a huge sigh of relief. It had been forever since I was home. The day I was taken was still so strong in my memory. The smell of stew on the stove top. Heading out in the rain with Edward to go to the store. The man who began talking to me in the aisle. The clerk checking me out. Walking out of the store to Edward's car. The hand that clasped over my mouth to stop any scream. Roughly being thrown into the back of a car, handcuffed to the seat. Edward running towards the car. The fight. Screaming. Edward falling to the ground. The man driving away with me as I stared out the back window at Edward's still form, lying on the ground. Darkness.

I shook the memories out of my head, as that was a day I did not want to relive. Instead I started focusing on the positives of running away from him and returning home. I couldn't wait to see mom and dad. I knew they would be ecstatic. I knew Alice would fall into my arms crying, and I would also cry as I held her tiny form. Then there was Edward. My Edward. The look on his face the last time I saw him was the strongest thing in my memory- it was a look full of fury, frustration, longing, fear, and love. I knew my kidnapping had to be very hard on him, as he swore he would always protect me. I smiled at the thought of my family and friends, and I started walking westward along the road. Even though I knew where I was, I was still a few miles from home, and there was going to be a long walk ahead of me. I really should have walked along the edge of the forrest- it would have been safer to be shaded by the trees. However, I had made the choice between safety and swiftness, and I knew that with my clumsiness, walking along the gravel would take a much shorter time. I knew I needed to move fast, so I opted for the paved road.

I was walking for a few more minutes before my mind began to wander back to him. I wondered how long he had been knocked out for, or if he was still asleep. I wondered if he realized that I was missing. I wondered if he would come looking for me. That last thought brought chills to my skin, and I shuddered in the light fall breeze. My only hope was that he had still not noticed my absence. If he indeed knew I was gone? Well, let's just say I need to begin walking a bit faster.

As I walked a bit further, I was overcome with the feeling that I wasn't alone, that there was someone watching me. Someone following my every movement. I felt a chill of fear down my spine, and I forced myself to muster up enough courage to peek over my shoulder. As I turned though, I was filled with relief as the only thing I saw was a small squirrel sitting at the base of a tree. I relaxed some, but I still couldn't shake the feeling that someone else was there. A few more minutes passed and I again looked over my shoulder, and again, nothing was there. After the second time of nothing I really relaxed and I smiled as I took more steps toward my destination. It was then that I heard the crunch of the leaves. I immediately looked down, only to see that there were no leaves under my foot. I stopped, frozen with fear, as I heard another loud crunch. Slowly I looked over my shoulder for the third time, and then my body began to rake with sobs. He was there, following me by about 20 feet. I met his eyes, and and evil smile spread across his lips.

"Silly girl." He said in a drunk, raspy voice, "You can't get away from me that easily." I looked at him in awe, wondering how long he had been following me. He stared me straight in the eye, and finally let the scariest smile i had ever seen dance on his face. One look at that smile, and I turned and ran, faster than I ever had. The forrest was a blur on either side of me, and I was staring at the ground, willing myself not to trip. However, even though I was doing an amazing job at not falling, he was still faster than me. As I was running, his hand gripped my arm. I shook him off, but it caused me to fall and roll a few more feet. I opened my eyes, and i was laying on the ground gasping for breath, looking at the sky above me. It was a beautiful blue color, and was almost peaceful. A few birds scattered across the sky, and I was instantly jealous; they were free, they could go where they wanted whenever they wanted. Then, as i was watching the birds, they were suddenly blocked by a dark shadow standing over me. I couldn't see the sky anymore. I couldn't see the birds anymore. All I saw was that smile.

"Please." I whispered, tears falling from my eyes. There was no way he would let me live now. I was going to die, and he was going to be the one who killed me.

"You are mine Claire. Forever." he said with a dark chuckle. Then he pulled back his leg and his foot connected with my head. Blackness.

Edward POV

"Happy Thanksgiving!" My mom said with a smile, setting the Turkey down onto the table before us. I looked around the table. My dad sat at the head, with my mom on his left. Renee was next to her and then Charlie. Next to Charlie was Rosalie, then Emmett at the other end of the table. On Emmett's other side was Jasper, then Alice, then me, on my father's right hand side. Everyone that I cared about was here, except the most important person.

"Oh Esme! It looks fabulous! I can't cook for anything, thank goodness we have you!" Renee said as my mother sat down next to her. I looked up at Renee, studying her. They always say that nothing is stronger than a mother's love for her child. Looking at Renee, I knew that had to be true. She had always been a carefree spirit, something I always admired because I was always, as Emmett would say, wound up too tight. But ever since Bella's disappearance, Renee was somehow quieter. She rarely came over anymore, and she basically locked herself in their house. My mom was over there quite a bit keeping her company. She had large bags under her eyes, had lost a lot of weight, and her brown hair now sported more gray streaks than ever. Charlie was bad as well. Looking at him I noticed even more gray hairs and bigger bags under his eyes, as he basically lived at the police station now. He devoted every waking hour to searching for Bella, and the no luck was obviously beating him up. Looking at them I realized how much stress can do to a person, and the results were frightening. It was even scarier knowing that they probably looked at me the same way.

"Thank you again for having us." Jasper, always polite, said.

"Oh Jasper! You know you and Rose are always welcome! I just hope your parents are having a good time on their trip!" My mom said with a smile.

"So, can we just eat already?" Emmett asked, his eyes locked on the stuffing.

"No, you know our tradition Em!" Alice said cheerfully. "We have to go around the table and say what we are most thankful for! I'll start! I'm thankful for clothes and my wonderful parents who let me buy said clothes. Jazz, go!" We all rolled our eyes at her.

"Um, I'm thankful for.. um.. Alice." Jasper said shortly.

"Lameee." Emmett chided. "I'm thankful for this food that I can't wait to eat."

"I'm starving too so I think I'll match Emmett and be thankful for this fabulous food that you made Esme." Rose blushed.

"Uh.. I'm thankful for my boys down at the station cause I haven't really been working on anything but the, uh, case, and they have all picked up some on the slack I've been having." Charlie said, nodding his head, and looking at Renee.

"I'm thankful for all of you guys, always being there for Charlie and I, even in our darkest times." Rene said with a sad smile, grabbing Charlie's hand.

"I'm thankful for all of you guys as well. You kids are so mature and strong and I love you all." My mom said.

"Okay, I'm thankful for good health with everyone in this town cause the hospital has been pretty empty and thats good!" Dad said. Then everyone looked at me.

"Um.. I'm not really thankful for anything." I said in a small whisper.

"Oh come on Edward. There has to be something!" Alice said, poking my side.

"Bella." I blurted out. It was deadly silent. "I'm thankful for Bella cause she's amazing and I'm happy she's a part of this family." I looked up, straight into Renee's eyes, and noticed they were watering.

"Thank you." she said with a small smile. Everyone nodded, and my dad clapped me on the back.

"To Bella?" Dad said, raising his glass. Everyone nodded and picked up their glasses as well. "Okay, a toast to Bella. We hope she is safe and okay right now and we hope that we find her very soon and welcome her home." We all nodded again, clinked our glasses together, and drank. I hope my dad was right. Please let her come home soon.
