I watch Amphitrite and Katniss moving through the arena in hopes of finding water, knowing they will not find any. Templesmith told us that much, at least. Not that it is really a useful piece of information."Can't we send them water?"

"We would if we could, darling,"Terra tells me. I'm not sure if she's being condecending or not, her tone is casual."No water on the list."

She hands me her hand-held computer, the list of available gifts opened for me to scroll through. Effie's doing the same with her own, then sighs."Nothing to get them water either."

"So they just - what? Let them die of thirst?"I demand, incredulous. There's no sign of whatever rescue-mission Haymitch and whoever else are plotting and now they can't even get water? Johanna Mason, who's still lounging around on our couch like she's in her own living room, rolls her eyes."Relax. They'll add something later. They just don't want them to have water right now. It's how it works."

"So what do we do now?"I ask. Finnick checks his watch and, with a sideways glance at me, forces a smile on his face."Well, I have an appointment. Haymitch, Terra, I trust you'll handle this? Effie, I trust you'll handle them?"

Appointment. Even if Finnick is trying to pretend otherwise, I know what that means now and I really wish I didn't. Still, I go along with the pretence of there being nothing wrong because there is nothing else to do. Once Finnick is gone, Johanna gets up aswell."I want food. Should I take the kid?"

Effie and Haymitch exchange a quick look, having a silent conversation much the way Gale and Katniss can, before Effie turns back to Johanna."That would be lovely, thank you. Prim, dear, try not to be corrupted by her awful manners, will you?"

"I just offered to help, didn't I?"Johanna shoots back and I can't help but think that they annoy each other just for fun; or atleast partly so. Deciding to let it slide that no one actually bothered to ask me if I am hungry or not, I trek along with Johanna.

There's not a lot of people currently in the cafeteria. Brutus and Gloss are here, the Career mentors presumably eating in shifts to ensure someone's always taking care of their tributes. At another table, Wiress and Beetee sit, the man waving as he spots us. We go over and sit down with them, even if Johanna grumbles about it the whole way.

They're nice and we talk lightly throughout the meal, even if Wiress seems to forget she's talking every now and again and Beetee has to finish her sentences for her. Once we're done eating, Wiress pulls a small hairpin out of her hair. It's thin and silver with a light blue gemstone - that I think might actually be from Two - on it and she leans over the table to offer it to me.

"Oh, no,"I say, raising my hands to deflect the gift."I couldn't. It's yours."

She shakes her head, still holding it out to me."You need it more."

That doesn't really make any sense and I look to Beetee for a translation of what she means. He doesn't offer one, so I look back to Wiress. She twists the little stone and it turn from blue to an almost green colour. Wiress then hums out our four note tune before twisting the gem stone once more and letting it return to blue. Now I lean in and let her fix it to my hair.

I don't quite understand what is going on with this hairpin, but I get that it is special somehow, important.

"You keep that very close to you,"Beetee tells me seriously,"You never know who you can trust."

Somehow, I get the feeling he isn't talking about the pin being stolen.
