Caroline barely managed to function properly throughout the rest of her work day sneaking into Stefan's office only after her boss was done reprimanding her for a job that wasn't even her's but his interns. The vision of Nik Mikaelson appeared in her mind, who was that man, that enigma that had plagued her every though.
Seeing him today had only made her obsession maybe obsession was bad word to describe it but she really thought she would be able to shake him once she saw him again. That everything she had made up in her mind had built him up and that in reality he was an awful waste of time. Again she was wrong. He was practically mythical.
Her eyes were glazed as she continuously tapped her pencil eraser on her lip only half hearing what Stefan was saying just then, "Caroline," her eyes shifted to his concerned face. It had shifted just a bit from broody and right passed his Wednesday face so she knew if she kept this up she might have to explain herself fairly quickly considering everything.
"What's up," she asked plopping down her elbows on his guest chair pointing her shoulders up as she sat down properly. Stefan tilted his head studying her, "What was it with every guy looking at her like that today," she thought as she tucked her long bangs behind her ear mentally reminding herself to schedule an appointment with her hair dresser soon.
"So are you going to tell me," Stefan said leaning forward on his desk clasping his hands together pausing as she flinched hesitant to continue this line of questioning, "About how your interview went?" he raised his eyebrows watching her reactions like a hawk. She quietly begged him to stop as she adjusted her collar.
"It was good," she said keeping her answer short, "You know I'm trying not to get my hopes up there's a lot hat needs to be worked out between us before we can even think about going any further." Caroline explained her smile growing as she thought back to the sketch tucked away in her purse at the present moment. "It's a tenant. I don't have to move in with my mother any time soon."
Caroline forced herself to at least seem relaxed and excitement about the idea of having a roommate. A roommate with a hot brother she had already made out with and was dying to try it again but whatever. "How's Damon," she asked switching the attention from herself to his very messy family drama which made Stefan winces pursing his lips as he shook his head his hands going up as if to say he wouldn't say another word.
She nodded in response before he started to discuss a safer topic, "So about Elena's big birthday." he said taking out a fie from the bottom drawer of his desk and flipping it to the list of vendors Caroline had printed for him. "I think there is a way that we can still gt those pigs in a blanket without the extra cost if we," He looked over at Caroline who growled at him.
"No, they're tacky and classless two things Elena is not." She waved away his idea as she moved to sit more comfortably in her chair ready to start a war with him if need be, "And I've already sent the appetizer list to the caterer so too bad," she pointed a warning finger at him a mean look crossing her eyes. "Although her boyfriend," she added rolling her eyes.
"Whoa easy, it was just a suggestion." he cried moving to the next page, "No need for name calling." Stefan knew there was something bigger bothering Caroline but he couldn't figure out what it could be. "And you love pigs in a blanket." he muttered under his breath as he sifted through the pages looking for the seating chart.
Caroline ignored him her mind turning back to that afternoon and who she would be dealing with this evening, she felt her stomach flutter, her palms grow sweaty as she rubbed her hands her fingers turning white from the pressure. She felt her something stir in the pit of her stomach a flurry of emotions heat rising in her cheeks.
Stefan went on not paying attention to his friend and co-working siting off the all the things they had planned for Elena's big birthday something they did every year to distract her from only having Jeremy and Kat left. "So I was thinking we could move these over here," he moved his pointer finger over the page untroubled over why Caroline wasn't as opinionated as moments before.
She smiled unable to help herself finally letting the little thoughts she'd had all this time in, take over her mind and let herself dream about how great it would be if everything worked out. To some degree she was gad woman didn't have as obvious an indicator of arousal like men although Klaus' was always clear to her. The thought made her gasp out loud as she shook her head of her dirty thoughts.
Stefan looked up at the sound, "What are you thinking about" he asked finally noticing something was up. Caroline was giggling to herself, entertained by her own mind. this was bad, "So I was thinking that," he stood up walking around his desk stopping at the front of it propping himself against it as he spoke, "We should just cancel the party and I can whisk Elena away on a trip." he flung he folder to the side of his desk provoking her.
Caroline blinked twice boring into Stefan her hands gripped the chairs armrests in an effort not to reach out and hit him internally Stefan swore he would never make her look at him with the glare she was giving him now. "It was a joke," he quipped uncrossing his arms pulling his hands in front of his face for just in case she lot control of herself and hit him.
He looked back at her from in-between his fingers but received no physical response from his blonde friend putting his hands down at his sides he waited until she calmed. She seemed to be taking deep breaths, he hoped in a moment she would be fine but suddenly she looked around the room disoriented as if she had just figured out where she was.
Caroline tilted her head before looking at her watch, "I gotta go," she said buttoning and unbuttoning her suit jacket before sanding up from her chair. "I have to get ready," she said scurrying to grab her bag and folders. "There's so much to do," she kissed his cheek and ran from his door. Almost hitting their boss on the way out but never slowing her pace until she hit the elevator.
Klaus scrambled to find his sister in the sea of people that surrounded the gala preparing for the evening ahead of them spotting her at the helm of the ship with a clipboard in hand he smiled. Releasing his hold on the office door entrance in he back he walked right in striding confidently a bounce in his step before shifting his eyes to someone next to him his brow furrowing as he spotted a helper mishandling his portrait.
He paused walking straight up to his painting and plucking it from the boy's hands, "Careful now," he chided, "Wouldn't want to have to pay for it," he said his words and smirk teasing but his tone was one of warning that sent the young man scurrying. Taking his work in both hands he looked over the darkened snowflake rising into the light a smile planted on his face.
His sister watched the entire ordeal out of the corner of her eye her lips pursed as she sent away her new assistant before turning to her older brother, "Still finding pleasure in someone fearing you," Rebekah said giving her brother the attention he required; more like supervision. He put his hands out on his sides shrugging a her words.
Klaus places the painting back on its easel turning his head to see his sister, "Still pretending to have a job," he replied in kind making her shake her head as sh came over to hug him. "Ah there she is," he said placing a big brother kiss on her forehead, the embarrassing kind that left slobber all over making her cry out in disgust while he chuckled letting her go.
"Ugh, Nik that was awful," she said wiping her forehead with her hand then wiping the residue on his chest before shoving him back with both hands, "And just so you know I do have a job here." she told him matter of factly crossing her arms, "As your manager." she reminded him again as if he could forget about it for a second. he'd regretted that decision almost everyday except for when their clients credit cards were approved.
Klaus scoffed, "Nevermind that now," he said taking a deep breath before he asked this favor of his sister knowing he may never live it down which ever way this evening goes down, "I need your help." He said it before he could take it back his eyes squeezed closed his hand hanging in the air his other tucked into his jacket before opening one eye just to see her response.
Rebekah was openly gaping at her older brother asking something of her, asking for her help inside she was dancing the hula at the thought of what Klaus might need from her. She almost squealed Klaus needed her she was the only one who could help him which completely caught her off guard. Clearing her throat she straightened, "Um sure," she replied brushing her long tresses behind her ear before focusing on her brother.
Klaus waited a moment thinking about all the ways this could go badly knowing she was freaking out inside just like he was unbelieving at how this situation was even happening. "So there's this girl," he mumbled looking down at the floor instead of his sister his ears hurting when he hears her screech
I KNEW IT!" multiple times watching her feet jump up and down because he still can't face her.
"I said!" she announced to the floor, "I told Elijah," she bounced once more before stopping, "No one would listen to me but I knew it," Rebekah took his hand looking around them "Get back to work!" she shouted at the people who had stopped their work to stare at her antics, "Wouldn't want to go home and have to explain to your families how you were fired weeks before the holidays."
"That was a bit much Rebekah," Klaus said shoving her into the office door they used when Elijah wasn't around considering it was his office this was one of those times. "Don't start," he warned shushing her before she could start a game of twenty questions he didn't want to be involved in especially with the time crunch he was under.
"Just stay silent until I get this out," he said struggling with his internal battle to walk out and avoid his feelings or deal with his sister and work it out so that Caroline and he, well he didn't want to finish that thought. "She's beautiful and perfect." he grinned as he began pacing the front of the office looking over the books he and his brother had collected over thee years. "I don't know what to do and she's coming here tonight."
Rebekah's face turned red a glow of happiness radiating from his younger sister with just a twinge of jealousy in her eyes before she jumped into his arms, "So you need my help." she muses playing with her fingers. Klaus grunts making her smile broaden, "Do you want flowers, gifts, or unfulfilled promises?" she asks because no girl has ever been so serious that he needed advice. Klaus kept his relationships superficial and easy so what made him change his mind?
Caroline tossed her dress on the bed the plastic coming up with the air it caught on the dry cleaners bag crinkling it as she practically lept out of her clothes and pulled out the bun in her hair. "Shower, shower. Wait shave," she grumbled as she pulled her blow dryer from it's drawer setting it up for when she stepped out also connecting her curling iron.
Quickly wrapping her towel around herself she picked up her shirt, skirt and underthings disposing them into her wicker hamper tossing her heels in the closet next to her soon after. She raced to her adjoining bathroom removing her towel and moving her shower curtain aside before turning the water to warm it as she waited she couldn't help but keep the giddiness at bay as she removed her make up.
She wet her hair letting the shower heads pressure relax her back muscles making her slump forward, "Tonight is the night," she sang almost squealing with delight, "When two become one." she laughed as she squirted shampoo into her hand and began to lather it into her hair. "I need to update my music selection."
Quickly placing her robe over herself once she's finished she pulls out her hair dryer beginning the process of getting ready for the night ahead. A wayward thought of going into battle made her smirk rustling the butterflies indies of her stomach. Moving from her thought she began to smell something unusual, "Did I leave the stove on?" she questioned before realizing it was her hand, her hair got stuck in the blow dryer by her face.
Screeching in horror she disconnected the cord tugging her hair out as best she could before throwing the offending machine to the ground before assessing the situation. Her hair smelled, bad. Quickly she grabbed her box of bobby pins looping her hair around into a fancy bun before using her styling oils to try and get rid of the burn smell.
Her text tone went off scaring her once more before she recognized that the sound wasn't from the fire alarm but her cell phone reaching over she plucked it from her vanity. "Kol," she groaned before scrolling down the screen to open his text which read, "Ticket is at the door Darling."making Caroline roll her eyes in response. "So much for picking me up." she said looking up a number for a taxi.
Later that evening
Klaus for his part was a nervous wreck internally knowing that nor only Rebekah but all of his siblings lived for stirring the pot the knowing looks his sister was giving him didn't help his case. Elijah had been on the phone all morning not until recently heading out to collect a few last-minute items Kol had neglected to get. The closer that evening got, the harder Klaus seemed to rub his knuckles.
Tonight not only was Caroline going to be there but it was also supposed to be the first of his own gala openings that he would attend as the painter Klaus Mikealson and not as Nik the outcast brother showing his support. It was a role he filled in order to attend the event without scrutiny and without need to schmooze his guests and respected buyers.
He like to keep his work and his personal life separate though some would say it was the same thing. The idea had occurred to him that he would not have as private of a life anymore that same idea made him want to hide in the building's office until the last guest left. Maybe he could sneak Caroline in there he thought waywardly, he felt his lip quirk at the vision of Caroline here surrounded by his work before he decided all the canvases had to be moved around.
First things first however he had to get ready, his suit was hanging behind the office door quickly locking it he stripped of his shirt and removed his shoes kicking them further away under the desk. He then began to work on his belt and unzipping his pants before tugging them completely off picking them up to fold them on top of his laid out shirt.
Klaus then unzipped the plastic bag unhooking his gray suit jacket and waist coat placing it beside his folded clothes before pulling a new shirt in the darkest of blues on reminding him of the darkest shade in her eyes as he buttoned it. Reaching for his slacks he pulled them on one leg at a time quickly tucking in his shirt and pulling on the matching vest.
He moved to grab his jacket before knocking over a stack of papers from the desk he hastily bent over to pick them up before Elijah could realize anything was amiss. Klaus lifted them up dropping them on the desk where they were before his head turning to the corner of them room his brows meeting at what he saw sitting on a chair there. "What are you doing here?" he asked aloud before making a decision.
He took a breath striding towards it finally finding his solace that his inspiration would soon see what she had helped to create this evening he bit his thumb thinking of the perfect place to put it before anyone got here and his sister could begin to complain. Rushing to the door he almost forgot it was locked before he tossed it aside storming into the showroom.
Having walked into the gallery Elijah found that Klaus was nowhere to be found at his own opening night he shook hands with the building owner as he made his way through the already crowded room. Disturbed by his absence, Elijah scanned the room once more before opting to check his own office spotting his younger sister and brother off arguing before Rebekah pointed to his office door a frown on her face.
Curtly nodding he made a movements towards the door not bothering with formalities and strode right in spotting his rather nervous brother occupied by his sketchbook. "Enough with the doodles little brother," he said obviously cutting at the inner turmoil Klaus was taking out on the page before him considering how he dropped the pencil and it rolled to the floor Klaus' attention solely on the wall in front of him.
He cleared his throat annoyed, "Turn around Niklaus," Elijah asked his younger brother in a stern voice as Klaus felt him move closer he frowned deciding it would be best to listen to his brother. Klaus did a slow spin for him before landing in the same spot he as before with his back to him Elijah took inventory observing his brother, his sleeves rolled up his back rigid in concentration.
He could hear Klaus muttering to himself as he reached for another pencil erasing lines presumably as Elijah turned on the lights to the office making the lamp Klaus had on useless. He moved further into the room, "Remember when you can hear me I can hear you." he reminded his younger brother watching his brother's head rise up rolling his shoulders back.
"Relaxing makes me tense," Klaus muttered louder so his brother could hear he finally gave in turning around to find his brother flipping through a photo album from Klaus' trip to Russia last year. The photo he stops at brings a smile to his lips because it isn't a photo at all. It's a sketch Klaus made of his siblings to keep him company while there unable to admit he missed them and didn't like being alone.
Klaus closed his sketchbook before he looked up once again to see his brother before placing the book on the desk his fingers running across it, "The room is waiting Niklaus," Elijah said as he shut the album to make a loud point. Klaus nodded rubbing his neck as Elijah lifted his jacket of the edge of his desk and walked over to him shaking the wrinkles out as Klaus unrolled his sleeves buttoning his cuffs before his brother helped him put it on.
Caroline tried to keep from frowning as she looked into her mirror as she finger brushed the curls that had fallen out of her bun around her face. She didn't know if the burn smell was stuck on her or if she was imagining it but she didn't have time to start over. Adjusting her dress she felt her mood pick up as she turned over checking out her backside on her tip toes.
Sliding on her heels she reached for her coat quickly slipping into it before wrapping a light scarf around her neck she would use with her strapless dress later for warmth. She puckered her lips popping them out before she decided against her earrings taking them off before she winked at herself in the mirror for luck before she grabbed her keys off of the vanity and walked as calmly as she could to the door.
The blonde was pleasantly surprised by the warm weather as she walked outside with the intent to catch a cab keeping her clutch close. The fabric of her dress caught in the wind underneath her coat as she took long strides to the end of the sidewalk spotting her ride and flagging him down. She felt her heart race as the car stopped in front of the location Kol had text her as a follow up.
Quickly paying she exited the car her heels clicking on the pavement as she shut the door trotting towards the entrance stopping at the front to give her name and take her ticket from the burly man in the front. She gave him an animated smile as she began to unbutton her coat tucking her clutch into her coat pocket and handing it to the person in charge of outerwear by the door taking her ticket and putting it into her dress's camouflaged pocket.
Klaus removed himself from Elijah's office walking out to a resounding clapping sound his eyes caught the astonished looks his guests were giving him. He saw his sister clapping manically his younger brother already dipping into the wine and sinking his claws into the waitresses. A spot of pride pitted in his chest as he looked around the heavily filled room flashes going of from the cameras Elijah set up for publicity.
He inwardly rolled his eyes as he was rushed by a few guests wanting to shake his hand, "I always kind of figured it was you." a man he had not encountered before said making Klaus laugh in response before thanking him for bothering to stop by. "Now you have to stop me from buying every single one of these," he said in parting as he moved away.
To which Klaus jokingly said, "Why would I do that?" lifting his hands in the air before moving on to the next guest and the next as he noticed a line forming for his attention making sure he would be busy for a time. Klaus already needed to take a small breath in another room as he was kissed on the cheek by an overeager woman who had drenched herself in perfume recently.
He felt relieved as he saw a familiar face making his way over he hugged his old college friend searching the room for one face only to be disillusioned disengaging himself from Marcel. "Hello mate," he said chuckling at the effervescent look in the man's face before he heard the door swing open. His hopes lifted, his heart soared as he felt his grin broadening to an imaginable degree not minutes before.
Caroline paced further in to the spacious room her jaw slack in awe at the sights before her she held her hands together to keep her trembling fingers calm. Colors consumed every inch of the textured white walls. Spotlights accentuating the darks and lights, the things left unsaid by the works the beheld not only her eyes buy the eyes of everyone in the room.
She felt a larger hand on her arm a shiver went through her making Caroline shut her eyes in excitement she calmly said, "You really shouldn't sneak up on people." Turning her head to the side her smile became even smaller as she was met with hazel eyes not the azure ones she had been expecting, "Kol." She finished a bit of a pout on her face as she spoke.
He chuckled at how funny women were when it came to budding romances as he started tucking his arm in hers escorting her as they advanced a distance in the room, "Don't look so disappointed Darling I'm sure Klaus is around here looking for you." He gestured around the room with his free hand half bored before he spotted a pretty brunette waitress with a wine tray and flagged her down.
He smiled at the gorgeous girl before him reading her name tag reminding himself of the girl he might take home that evening, "Have some wine," he insisted looking at Caroline, taking a glass for himself letting her get her own. "Relax Darling." He said as he spun them purposely leading her away from his brother's glare presently penetrating the back of his shoulders all for a good laugh.
"My brother likes collecting beautiful things," he said sipping the liquid from his glass grimacing at the poor quality, "And if he can't find something up to par he creates it." Kol said simply leaving Caroline to think about what he had just said as he placed his glass on a passing tray of a gentleman waiter as he unhooked himself from her arm.
She easily accepted the action finally having some space to take her shawl in her free hand unwrapping it from her neck as she took her first sip she tried not to pull a face at the bitter bite of her beverage, "I think you'll like this one," Kol said his intent to catch her off guard as he turned Caroline's attention to the painting on the wall instead of her wine glass.
Kol couldn't help his smirk as he heard her choke on her wine as he fully faced her, "Oh my god," she sputtered mortified she might have gotten some liquid on the wall or the canvas wiping her lips from the free falling liquid hitting Kol with her elbow before she shoved her glass into his chest. "I was not ready for this today," she admitted quietly her eyes taking in each sliver of the canvas.
Caroline excused herself to get cleaned up strolling as nonchalantly as she could towards the bathroom Kol had pointed out to her after she managed to come out of her shock. The image of her lying in his arms was exquisite, it made her breath stop short at just the thought of that night meaning more to him. The thought that maybe it was the beginning for the both of them.
Quickly entering before another woman could beat her to the tiny bathroom she turned on the light switch and locked the door leaning against the wall by the switch. She looked over at the mirror her flushed reflection met her eyes quickly her hands came up to her face adjusting her hair as best she could before opening the sink as a distraction her shawl forgotten on the floor.
He paced the room hoping to find the woman that had been running through his mind since the moment she walked up to him asking for a chance to pull one over on Kol. He couldn't believe he had whisked her away before he got a chance to greet her. Show her around or ask her about her day and how she had been since they last saw each other which he had to laugh at because it wasn't so long ago.
Determined he scoured the room in an effort to locate her and as if destiny called he looked over to his left just as the door to the bathroom opened revealing the delicate creature herself. Her eyes met his making his collar feel warm a tint of pink on his cheeks matching her own as she smiled at him waving less than awkwardly at him from across the room.
He progressed towards her taking long undeterred steps in the direction of the apparition before him until he was met with her sweet voice saying his name like she was born to. "Hi Nik," she almost whispered making his heart almost heave from his chest into her hands as she beamed looking up at him even in her perfectly coordinated heels.
"Hello Caroline," he said casually reaching out a hand for her to take which she did a moment later without hesitation much to his glee. "I trust my brother has shown you all the sights already," he said an unasked question left for her to answer. Looking upon her face he received his answer fully by the smile tucked into the corner of her mouth. "Did you like it?"
Caroline looked up from her shoes to meet his eyes, "What was your inspiration for this," she asked realizing they were back in front of the portrait that depicted them nestled against each other in his tiny apartment a few streets from here. For a moment she wished she were back there, not only in his home away from the crowd but back in that moment safe in his arms.
Klaus deliberated for a moment deciding if he could trust her with his innermost thoughts before he thought he could, "I wanted to create something that has meaning to people," her eyes widened just as her smile did he took it as encouragement to continue. "Be it a moment that was missed or a sunset that has passed. Or beauty beyond belief." His eyes lingered on hers as he spoke.
Caroline took his answer with a nod before turning back to the couple on the canvas remotely aware of how close he was getting. She took a silent breath as she felt the heat of his jacket on her bare arm, "What do you do with things that don't work out?" she asked bleakly tucking a curl behind her ear as she avoided his gaze.
Klaus felt her pulling back before he answered, "If I can't be great at something why try?" he asked making her face him sadness in her eyes. "I wouldn't want to ruin it." He placed his fingers underneath her chin so she wouldn't dare look away. "Don't frown," he asked of her, "We're not a thing. You and I have meaning." He told her his nose catching a whiff of something, "What's that smell?"
Caroline took a step back moving from the tiny bubble they had been in whilst surrounded by more than a hundred people, "I uh," she stuttered composing herself after a second of convincing herself it wasn't her he smelled and even if it was he didn't have to know the story why. "I have no idea," she said placing a hand on the wall leaning on it as she asked, "What do you smell?"
Klaus shook his head upset his question disrupted the moment they were having, "Its nothing probably," he said taking her hand this time without permission as he lightly tugged so she could be back in the spot she was in before, "Just me." He insisted knowing the more her stared the more she blushed but he couldn't help himself, he couldn't look away.
Caroline tried to keep from squirming but the loving heated look he was tossing her way absolutely seared through her very soul scorching any kind of self-control. She was seconds away from pulling him into one of the doors she had seen while making her way to the bathroom. "You don't smell bad, what is that? she asked.
Klaus smirked leaning towards her unconsciously as he answered, "A little turpentine," he gestured with his fingers leaving a small space between them, "Sweat and body wash." He fixed his collar adjusting the top buttons so he could breathe easier. "But what about you, you look ravishing." He complimented as she shook her head in disbelief as he nodded.
She gave him a small smile as she replied, "Thank you," her eyelashes batting and her dazzling pink lips baiting him. He longed for even just a small taste, "No I'm serious," he insisted adamantly. "You should've been my prom date tonight." He joked half -heartedly wishing he had the courage to asked her to be on his arm this evening.
Caroline thought back to her own prom which of course she planned to a T only to end up going alone, "Ha ha," she laughed nervously, "Well my prom didn't go so well." Klaus' eyes asked the question before his mouth could, "My best friend played a prank on me and stole my dress." She wanted to press her index finger into the crease his forehead was making, "Sorry I don't know why I just told you that."
Klaus smiled encouraging her to continue, "No keep going, I insist." He had that determined look about him engrossed in anything she would offer him so she submitted, "Well she took it and I had to find this tacky thing to wear. Plus I had to go alone because of my self-righteous boyfriend who conveniently went out of town." She looked at him animatedly, "I swear I was so mad at her for like a week after."
Klaus' eyebrows shot up surprising her, "Ah well I would have saved the day had I been there," he said making her giggle. "I would have gotten you a dress," he continued as if he could see her squarely in his mind, "Me a tux," she chortled making him smile, "Then we would have danced all night long." He said definitively.
Caroline rolled her eyes in such a high school fashion, "Oh really," she asked intrigued by what he might say next. "Yes," he countered as she gave him a look that said 'Seriously' to which he responded with one of his own looks. "Then I would have walked you home straight to your door and kissed your hand before I said goodnight."
Stunned Caroline felt as if she was at a loss for words. She licked her lips tasting cherry as she thought about how losing her words was something that happened consistently while he was around, "That sounds…" she tried to think of a word beyond magic failing immensely as he stood there bemused by her silence rather than insulted like most men would be.
Klaus had a great sense of satisfaction the was ebbing away at any nerves he had prior to their encounter beginning to feel like himself around her once more, "Amazing, I know" he finished for her. "It sounds like it would have been amazing to go with you. There's always the ten year reunion thing though." She said smiling.
Klaus moved in until he was but a breaths whisper away from her shining face and telling her in a quiet voice so as not to be overheard, "To see you smile is to feel the sun." before he kissed her cheek the only act of bravery he could bestow upon her at the moment in a crowded room without speculation from the masses.
"Yeah," Caroline breathed out, straightening her skirt as she moved away from his closeness, "Well whatever," she waved him off just like she was trying to put off her feelings for him. Run was the only clear thought in her mind for some reason, "I should go find Kol." She said reminding herself she was here out of a favor to the youngest Mikaelson brother.
They both looked over to where Klaus was pointing to with his eyes a moment ago over to Kol, "It would seem he is otherwise entertained," he gestured to his younger brother making a waitress laugh behind them a few feet away. Caroline stood next to him as he tried to get an idea of what was on her mind right then. A twinge of jealously was elicited in him over her interest in his brother.
Caroline took him by surprise and relieved him of that sinful feeling when she cracked a smile looking up at him and said, "Great just like prom," she made him smile in turn, "I just got stood up." Klaus took the opportunity of Caroline having her hands on her hips to once again loop their arms together in a fashion that suited him immensely.
"Then how about a dance," he asked her as sweetly as he could hoping he wouldn't be denied in his request as he looped his other hand around her curved waist the soft fabric brushing against his rough hands. Caroline placed her other hand on his shoulder as if to make him understand.
"There's no music Nik." She said in a voice that was trying to make him see reason. Klaus didn't live by reason he lived by feeling so how to make her understand how alive he felt beside her he had no clue but dancing was a start. Because that was how it all had started.
He pressed his scruffy cheek to her soft one whispering in her ear, "Well that's the best thing about having your own exhibition," his teeth and lips barely touched her as he spoke and still she felt more alive in one sentence than she had with any other encounter before this moment. "I can do whatever I want and I want to dance with you."
She could only trust so many words out of her mouth so she settled upon, "Just once," excitement running through her veins thinking about what was to come after this night as he pressed her body to his intimately before she felt him sway his lips back at her ear as he whispered again. "We'll see."
