Artemis

When we get back to the cave, I am going to make sure that I get NINETY percent of the credit for saving our asses because Wally was unconscious for more than half of the entire ordeal.

But the cave's still a ways away. First thing is we need a hiding place. Second is clothes. Then we work on finding a Zeta before the boss creep finds US.

I can't say I'm surprised we haven't run into a living soul this side of Gotham. Usually, shady places like these are just clogged up with scumbags deserving to get arrowed for one reason or another. Now I'm just glad there isn't anyone to question a girl in a cast in her underwear briskly pushing a shopping cart full of shirtless unconscious bloody teenaged boy. Not that I think they'd bat an eyelash, just grateful that the snow is keeping them indoors.

Outline of the remainder of the story:

Chapter 7: Bicker

Artemis

Artemis wheels Wally through the back alleys of shady Mc-shadester Gotham in the early hours of the morning. She shoves a bunch of old newspapers in the cart to keep Wally warm and trades the money in the goon's wallet for a jacket off a homeless person who looks at them mighty suspiciously but takes their money. Artemis is trying to orient herself when Wally comes to, asking how they got away and how they ended up in Gotham. Artemis says she shot the goon with one of her arrows in her compact bow and lies about the goons having hijacked the Zeta and stranding them in Gotham. They bicker over what to do (police vs justice league, zeta vs hospital, trying to make a phone call vs trying to find help in person) until they realize a car is tracking them. Artemis makes a run for it, pushing Wally in the cart. The cart gains momentum and Artemis loses control of it. Wally separates from her and goes careening down a side street but Artemis is forced to keep running in a different direction. Artemis ditches the car after a few minutes and struggles to find Wally. While looking, Artemis finally recognizes a building and navigates her way to the Zeta tube. But not wanting to leave Wally with their kidnapper still on the loose, she bookmarks its location in her mind and goes looking for Wally.

Chapter 8: Brink

Wally

Wally throws a bunch of heavy trash in the shopping cart and uses it as a walker to get around and try to find Artemis. The boss kidnapper unfortunately finds him first, throwing him into the car, and holding him hostage for finding Artemis. Wally asks questions to try and gauge what kind of villain wants Artemis so badly and he comes dangerously close to finding out that Artemis's dad is Sportsmaster when one of the car wheels pops (courtesy of Artemis's arrow, but Wally doesn't discover this until later), and the car crashes into the canal. As the car begins to sink, Wally struggles to get out. Artemis appears, breaking open a window and fights to try and get Wally out. But the boss kidnapper is still alive and he shoots Artemis in the side while aiming for Wally. Wally punches him out underwater (he can do that, he has super speed) and instructs Artemis to hold onto him before they run out of air. He swims to the surface using fast paddling just with his arms and they both break the surface just short of drowning. They paddle to shore and lay there panting and gasping, Artemis trying to stem the blood flow of her side. Wally jokes that this may just be the most badass thing he's ever done and no wonder Batman stays in shape so well if this is the kind of shit that goes down in Gotham on a daily basis.

Chapter 9: Blackout

Artemis

Artemis tells hims she found the Zeta tube and tells him where it is, but neither of them can move without the other, they're both freezing from the ice water, and Artemis is bleeding a whole lot. Wally crawls over to see if he can help stop the bleeding and curls around her so they can warm each other (science 101). Artemis insists that one of them needs to get to the Zeta tube and Wally starts calling for help. Artemis shushes him and says that's like a limp antelope letting the lion know where it is, didn't he know this was Gotham City? She's surprised when Wally starts undoing the bandages from his legs and tying up her side. He says he's useless anyway and that they're best chance is if she makes it to the Zeta on her own and gets help. Artemis fights this idea but eventually agrees it's the best solution. She leaves Wally with a promise and an apology and staggers down the streets to the Zeta tube, losing blood fast. With the sun finally risen and on the verge of passing out, Artemis gives the tube her identification information but blacks out before giving it a destination.

Chapter 10: Better

Wally

Wally blacks out at well on the banks of the canal and wakes up in the med-bay of Mount Justice. Barry is by his side, giving him a blood transfusion and Artemis is on a bed on his other side. Wally immediately requests Cheetos. Barry explains that even though Artemis made it to the Zeta, she never made it through. The only reason they are alive right now is because Robin eventually went after them to see what was taking so long/if they had patched things up. Red Tornado arrives to explains the extent of their injuries and Batman appears as well, asking for a debrief. Artemis comes to and gives Batman a full report of what she knows to have happened. They're left in peace. Wally tells Artemis that they make a pretty good team. Artemis argues that he wouldn't be alive without her and he agrees, surprising her. They come to an understanding about each other and concede that maybe they could get along better, knowing the other has their back.
