Chapter 9

Yugi growled annoyed as the sound of knocking woke him up yet again, it had been a week and three days since the encounter with Kuro. Adrianne had become even more clingy than before and she had banged on Yugi's door waking him up very early every day for the past week and three days. 'Oh My Ra! Leave me alone to sleep you crazy woman' Yugi screamed in his head as he reluctantly got up and stomped over to the door.

"What do you want princess?" Yugi half asked, half yawned as he opened the door. "Father said that we could go to the market in the city" Adrianne cheered while Yugi grimaced. 'Great, shopping. That's the last thing I ever want to do with a girl'. "Adrianne ask someone else to go with you because I'm tired and going back to sleep" Yugi grumbled before shutting the door in her face and crawling back into bed.

"Yugi! YUGI!" Adrianne shouted through the door. Yugi groaned and shoved his pillow over his head muffling the sound of the princess's voice. 'Why can't she go and bother someone else?' Yugi asked himself.

After ten minutes Adrianne finally gave up and left Yugi in peace. "Finally she's gone, thank Ra" Yugi muttered sleepily before closing his eyes and falling asleep. Only to be woken up by a shout half an hour later.

"Plugi get up we're going to the market in the city" Maisie happily announced through the door. Yugi groaned and rolled over. "Can't a guy get any sleep around here" Yugi grumbled to himself as he got up.

"PLUGI" Maisie shouted again and knocked on the door. "I'M UP" Yugi shouted back as he dressed himself in some simple clothes. Yugi glared at the sun as he combed through his spikes and locks before wrenching open the door. "I'm here" Yugi growled. Maisie giggled at him before speaking. "You look tired Yugi. Was Adrianne waking you up again?" "Yep" Yugi replied before he stomped off towards the great hall.

When Maisie and Yugi arrived breakfast was already being served. Martha was eating toast while Harry and Rose were flicking raisins into Adrianne's drink when she wasn't looking. Vicky was devouring oranges and smiling every time a piece of fruit entered her mouth. "Hey Vicky don't eat all of the oranges" Maisie shouted as she ran to the table. Vicky stuck her tongue out at Maisie and continued to eat the oranges. Yugi chuckled as he approached the table.

Yugi grabbed a plate of grapes, bacon and toast before he sat down between Martha and Vicky. Out of the corner of his eye Yugi saw Adrianne frown and then spotted the empty seat next to her. 'As if I was gonna sit there' Yugi smirked as he dug into his meal.

"Good morning Yugi" Vicky and Martha greeted at the same time. "Morning" Yugi grumbled. Vicky chuckled as Yugi almost fell asleep in his food. "Maybe you should rest today. You look like you can hardly keep your eyes open". Yugi sighed as he opened his eyes again. "I like that idea. Can I stay here today?" "Of course. You are still my guests after all" Pelagius smiled kindly. Adrianne frowned even more. "Thanks" Yugi replied gratefully. "But I will be leaving some guards outside your room in case Kuro and his friends attack. You are a light after all" Pelagius continued. "Ok" Yugi agreed. "Father if Yugi is staying here then who is going to protect me while I'm out?" Adrianne complained. "We will, we have been training for this duty for months now. You are perfectly safe with us" Martha replied.

Adrianne glared at her before she folded her arms and huffed. Maisie then flicked a raisin into her glass. Adrianne still didn't notice a thing. She huffed again before picking up her drink and taking a sip. Adrianne grimaced as she swallowed and slammed the cup onto the table while gagging. "There is something wrong with my drink, get me another one" she ordered.

Yugi, Harry, Rose, Maisie, Martha and Vicky all shared a look before they started giggling. "Nice one Maisie" Rose whispered. "That look on her face was priceless" Vicky murmured. "Adrianne you know better than to do that in front of guests. That was extremely unladylike. I would expect that from the commoners not from you" Pelagius scolded. Adrianne frowned and looked down.

Kimimaru approached the table with another drink in his hand. "Here is your drink princess" he stated while smiling up at the princess. However Adrianne simply ignored him and snatched the drink from his hands. 'That's harsh, she didn't even say thank you' Vicky thought. Kimimaru bowed and left the room.

"So how long has Kimimaru been working in the palace for?" Vicky asked curiously. Pelagius smiled. "For five years. He is a very good servant. Very loyal, kind and friendly. If only all the nobles would be like him. Then half of our problems would be solved" Pelagius answered. "It's a shame that someone like him was born a commoner. He deserves so much more" Vicky thought aloud. "I agree. Kimimaru would make a good husband for someone" Pelagius agreed.

Pelagius and Vicky chatted about Kimimaru for the duration of the meal.

"I'm going to go back to my room for a nap" Yugi said while yawning. "Are you sure you're going to be okay? What if Kuro comes back?" Maisie asked. Yugi smiled at her. "Hey I have two well-trained guards outside my door. I think I'll be ok" Yugi replied. "Ok well enjoy your nap" Maisie said. "I will" Yugi answered.

Yugi waved goodbye as his friends, the princess and a couple of guards headed out towards the market. 'Finally now I can go and have that nap' Yugi silently cheered before he sprinted off to his room.

The market was packed with people. Millions of stalls selling fruits, meats, flowers, silks, clothes, gold, jewellery, gifts and many more objects surrounded the area. Hundreds of people were wandering around buying necessities and gifts. "This is awesome" Maisie cheered. Everyone sweat dropped as Maisie ran off towards the nearest stall that happened to be selling sweets. "Well I've got to go and make sure she doesn't buy the whole cart of sweets. She'll be hyper for days if she has too much sugar" Martha sighed as she ran off after her sister. "Sweets I love sweets" Rose said happily before she also ran off.

"Well at least someone's happy" Harry huffed as he looked to his left where an angry princess was stomping around followed by five guards. "I can't believe we are stuck with her all day. She can't even go around the market by herself" Vicky complained. "I know, could our luck get any worse" Harry agreed. "Hey don't jinx it" Vicky joked. Harry stuck his tongue out at her before running off after the princess. Vicky chuckled before following.

Adrianne's POV

I can't believe it. I wanted to spend the day with my Yugi today. Why did he have to stay at home? This is so unfair! It's all Vicky's fault. She suggested that he stay in the palace. Argh I hate her!

"Are you ok princess" a voice asked disturbing my thought process. I looked up into worried blue eyes. "I'm fine now go back to your duty of protecting me Kimimaru" I snapped. Kimimaru gave me a look which resembled a kicked puppy before he bowed and backed off leaving me alone. I watched Vicky walk over to Kimimaru and give him a comforting look before she walked off into the market.

I really hate that girl. I don't get why everyone likes her. I mean what's so special about her anyway? I looked around at the stalls surrounding me. Maybe I should get Yugi a gift, then he will like me better.

I started to look around the stalls studying various gifts before throwing them back to the merchants and walking away. They don't have anything that I could give to Yugi. Suddenly I heard a whisper coming from an alley from my left. I turned and looked down the alley.

The alley was dark and cast in shadow but I could see the silhouette of a figure standing at the end. "Princess I have some magical gifts that will make all of your wishes come true" the stranger whispered in a low rumbling voice.

I sweat dropped. This guy is so obvious. "Do you really expect me to enter that alleyway where my guards can't see me when I'm expecting an attack" I sneered making the stranger chuckle. "I assure you princess I am merely a travelling wizard looking to sell trinkets I've made". "Then why are you hiding in that alley?" I asked unconvinced. "You should know princess that ever since the dark times certain practises of magic have been outlawed".

It makes sense that he is hiding. The dark times was the cause of wizards outside guilds controlled by the king being outlawed. The dark times, I've often wondered what actually happened during that time but father has all of the books on the subject locked away somewhere secret in the library. I really do want to learn more about the dark times and magic. What's the harm in taking a look?

I cautiously moved down the alleyway until I was standing in front of the man. "Tell me what is it that you desire?" the man asked. "I desire the heart of the man I love" I replied. "Ahh unrequited love, I see. Well I happen to have just the right thing for you princess" the man replied before he pulled something out of his pocket. In the darkness of the alleyway I couldn't see what it was but I'm too curious to back out now.

"Give this to your man. As soon as he puts on this pendent he will be under a spell which makes him madly in love with you. As long as he is wearing it he will have eyes for only you. He will do whatever you command him to and he will be yours forever. All you need to do is put a lock of your hair inside".

I can't believe that something this wonderful actually exists. It's too good to be true. "How much do you want for it?" I asked. The man chuckled. "Well I have a deal. I'll give it to you for free if you don't tell anyone of our meeting here today". "It's a deal" I replied as I took the pendent from the man. "Goodbye princess" the man chuckled before he receded into the shadows.

I quickly ran back down the alley to the street where I could see my guards frantically searching for me. Looking down I studied the pendent I held in my hand. A large red stone in the shape of a skull was embedded onto silver and hung from a silver chain. It pulsed slightly in my hand before returning to normal. I smiled and slipped the pendent into the pocket of my belt.

Normal POV

The man grinned as he watched the princess slip the pendent into her pocket. "Has it been done" a voice asked from behind the man. The man turned to face the masked teen behind him. "Yes I have given the girl the pendent and she will give it to the boy" the man replied.

"Very good. Here is your pay" the teen said as he tossed him a couple of gold coins. "If you need anything else come and find me. I'll be with our guild up in the mountains" the man stated before running off.

The teen chuckled as he looked out of the street and the light shined on his yin yang mask. Kuro smirked as he caught sight of the princess being scolded by the guards. "All has been prepared. Now all that remains is to spring the trap". He shot a quick glance up at the palace before he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Vicky sighed as she caught up with the blonde in front of her. "Hey Kimimaru are you ok?" Vicky asked. Kimimaru glanced at her before he quietly replied "I'm fine". "I can tell that you aren't fine. I saw the look on your face when Adrianne dismissed you like that" Vicky insisted. Kimimaru stopped and looked at Vicky.

After a few seconds Vicky figured out the problem. "You're in love with Adrianne… aren't you" she stated quietly. Kimimaru nodded sadly. "But those feelings don't matter. I am a servant and she is the princess, and I know that she will never return my feelings. She doesn't even acknowledge my existence". Vicky put a hand on his shoulder shocking Kimimaru into silence.

"Don't be silly. Of course your feelings matter. Everyone is important and everyone deserves to be happy including you. Status shouldn't matter when it comes to love. I'm not just going to let you give up like this. I'm going to help you tell the princess how you feel" Vicky announced.

Kimimaru's lip wobbled slightly and he looked like he was on the brink of tears. "Why? Why are you helping me?" Kimimaru said, his voice cracking a little. "Because you're my friend" Vicky replied making Kimimaru look up at her. His blue eyes filled with tears that rolled down his cheeks. Vicky smiled at him and pulled him into a friendly hug. "Thank you" Kimimaru sobbed into her shoulder. Vicky grinned. "No problem".

Yugi: Oh great *Pouts*

Orange: *Chuckles then sweat drops*

Yugi: *glares at Vicky*
