A single gunshot echoed throughout the war-torn landscape, its bark bleeding out to an eerie silence that seemed to blanket the planet as a single round pinged off the Plas-Crete roadway before coming to rest against Krieg's iron-shod boot. The man in question had just killed the last mutant after it had tried to ambush the duo, just like the armoured convoy before them. But, even with the element of surprise, they had been undone by the Hive-Ganger and the Sniper and paid with their lives.
Krieg spat on the mutant's face, half of it missing because of his heavy-gauge autopistol. Kneeling down, Krieg picked up the mutant's Judgeslayer Handcannon, examining it as he tucked his Autopistol under his arm. Judgeslayer Handcannon are bulky, unreliable, temperamental and have a tenacity of backfiring and taking off its users arm in the process, however, when it works, the sheer power behind its .54 Calibre round is capable of punching holes in the armour of a Chimera or tearing a carapace-armoured Judge in half with a single blast from its massive bullet.
Glancing at his Autopistol, he shoved the Judgeslayer into his Chem-Metal Jacket before he hurled the Autopistol off of the side of the overpass as Krom finally caught up with him. "You're a grade-A psycho" Krom said, his scoped Autogun slung over his shoulder as he panted for breath, Krieg chuckled darkly under his breath as he sheathed his power sword before replying "Now whatever gave you that idea".
Unbeknownst to the two, there was another watcher to this fight…
Karlos watched the pair through the scope of his Needle Rifle, His objective was to locate the Hive-Ganger Krieg Dokken and in that regard he had succeeded. Now, he watched as Krieg casually smoked a Lho-Stick whilst having a conversation with his companion, a sniper from the looks of it. He growled, despising the choice his master had made as an Acolyte as soon as he had seen the Hive-Ganger's face on the data-slate. Still, he had a job to do as he thumbed the vox-stud in his ear and said "Target located, map-grid CVB-zero-seven".
"Roger that Karlos, proceed to the location and await with the target" the person on the other side of the Vox said in reply. Snorting, Karlos pulled himself to his feet and leaped down from his vantage point, cursing Krieg's name all the while.
Meanwhile, on the Herald of Sin…
The Word Bearer's had their hands tied, unable to get close enough to Golgotha to launch the strike force in Thunderhawks and heavily outgunned by the Orkish and Imperial Fleets, they could not hope to get into range of a Dreadclaw assault. Kol Badur growled, his Power Talon groaning as he clenched it into a fist as he stared at the holographic map. At Marduk's request he had handpicked thirty of the best the 34Th Host had to offer, each a veteran of the Heresy and armed with the finest weapons and armour they could find. The terminator-armoured champion looked at the data-slate he held in his other hand, his eyes scanning roster for the strike-force for the fourth time.
Leader: Sabtec, The Champion of the 34th Host
2-I-C: Absol, Squad Commander of the Blades of the God's
Honour Guard: Blades of the God's (8 Member's all armed with Combi-Bolter's and Power Sword's)
Auxiliary: Enforcer Harkon (Required for the retrieval of the Dream-Child)
Kol Badur tossed the data-slate over his shoulder, hearing it break against the wall behind him. Still, he needed an opening, and without one it seemed that they would be waiting until this little war was over…
Back on Golgotha…
The pair sat in silence, only broken by the occasional 'Chink' of Krom loading fresh bullets into one of the drum magazines for his rifle. Krom's gun was a heavily modified version of an Agripinaa Pattern Type III Autogun, it has long since been modified with a 4X Magnification Assault Scope, a handmade Ironbark Stock, Silencer and a sling made from a length of Plas-Steel Chain. Krieg was scavenging through the wrecked Centaur's, looting the bodies for weapon's, ammo and Lho-Sticks.
Glancing over his shoulder, Krom sighed at what the Hive-Ganger was doing. Krieg was grabbing every gun he could find and was tossing them into a pile in the shadow of an Earthshaker cannon. Krieg emerged from behind one of the Centaur's, four lasgun's tucked under his left arm and a box of ammo clutched in his right hand before he hurled them atop the pile. Rolling his shoulders back Krieg reached into a pocket and withdrew an engraved case, even from this distance he could see that it was marked with K + N.
Raising an eyebrow at this, Krom continued to watch Krieg as he ran his thumb over the letters for a moment, as if he was remembering something dear to him. That is before the Hive-Ganger snarled and flicked the case open, ripping one of the cigars and lighting it with a flick of his wrist before slamming the case closed and shoving it back into his pocket with a growl. Breathing out a cloud of the noxious drug-laced smoke Krieg turned his back to the Sniper, Illuminating him in the light of the setting sun.
The remaining light would be gone soon; the pair would have to find a safe haven to seek refuge soon.
Although in Krom's mind the question still remained, who is this N person and what did he have to do with Krieg and his past?
