Chapter 2: "Unwanted, but Wanted Rendezvous"

"You won't be able to finish in time, Youko. They're coming." Kuroune told the silver fox demon, his tone taunting. Looking back at the entrance of the shrine, the heavy footsteps of guards were drawing closer, becoming louder and louder. The mischievous bat demon was currently leaning against a tall beam made of hard wood, calmly watching his surroundings. But he smirked once he heard with his oversensitive ears the aggravated conversation amongst the guards on the precise location of their whereabouts.

"Don't rush perfection." Youko replied, a smirk plastered on his face illustrating that cocky self-confidence he was born with. Whenever he led a heist, pressure was a must for Youko. It was his all-time high, getting out of a nasty predicament just seconds before their captors were on to them. And although Kuroune was all for the pressure, he functioned a bit differently, taking on a new approach.

Youko pushed the slim blade around some more, playing his way through the intricate safe lock that rested at the center of an old, wooden box. Honestly, this box could have been easily been destroyed with a swipe of his claws, but then that would not only damage the treasure inside, but also trigger an alarm he was sure it had, setting off the self-imploding countdown.

Kuroune watched with bored eyes.

Youko slowed his movements, his sharp amber eyes probing the complex metal pieces that could barely be seen from the keyhole itself. He spotted it. What he was looking for and smiled, canines visible, sharp, and deadly. Placing the flattened tip of the silver blade between two metallic wedges, Youko twisted it to the right and his inner beast growled in satisfaction as the lock gave way with a familiar 'click'.

"And you were saying—"

"They'll be at the shrine's entrance in about 4.37 seconds." Kuroune's dark eyes shimmered in mild amusement as he waited, as he always did, for Youko to fail and be caught though it never happened. Ever.

"That's one second too much my friend. And you know it too." Youko uttered that cocky grin growing larger by the second. Using his innate demonic speed, Youko quickly - but carefully - pulled the door of the safe aside, grabbing the glowing sapphire jeweled necklace with skilled fingers from what had been its home for the past century or so. Then, just as the guards ripped open the shrine doors, he grabbed onto Kuroune who took them into the air and out of the old wooden building through the skylight they created upon entry. Leaving behind an angry flock of guards, Kuroune laughed and took him and his partner higher into the sky.

"You know, it's now I'm thinking I should have left you there and see whether you would have gotten out?"

Although he didn't need to, Youko leaned down closer for Kuroune to hear his words. "You're decision not to just saved their lives and be grateful."

"For what?" Kuroune asked.

Youko smiled, a mischievous hint present. "That I'm forgiving and not taking your life this instant."

After flying for five minutes, Kuroune felt it safe to land, but not before he abruptly let Youko go without so much as a warning.

Unfortunately for Kuroune and his amusement, Youko was a silver kitsune, which meant he was quite skilled, landing with the utmost grace any being could have.

"Dammit, you were suppose to fall flat on your face so that I could laugh my head off." Kuroune pouted as he planted himself on the rich earth, folding in his deep, dark black wings into his back.

"I wasn't made for your amusement, bat." Youko replied, admiring the sapphire necklace, which was now officially his.

"She's a beauty, ain't she?" Kuroune commented, taking a look see beside Youko.

"A rare treasure that is now mine." Youko replied, stowing the necklace inside his youki for safe keeping. "And you failed. I had enough time to get her. Guess you were wrong…as usual." Youko emphasized, walking past his long-time friend.

"Hardy Har Har, Youko. I didn't know you were capable of making jokes." Kuroune muttered sardonically, following the silver kitsune.

"I'm not," He replied, passing by tall oaks that lived for centuries and lush greenery that coated every part of this forest, making it what it was today. His home. "But I have my moments."

"Yeah, I'll give you th—What is it?" Youko had stopped abruptly, his head now facing the left. Kuroune looked in that direction and saw…

Well damn. What did they have here?

To their left, a few yards away, Kuroune spotted two females bathing in the springs, their bodies both submerged under water. The one talking at this current moment had long, light brown hair, decorated with several shades of blue. She was cute, her face lighting up the instant she laughed out loud at whatever the other woman said, her laugh contagious. Born with a heart-shaped face, her features were delicate, but sensual, hiding a layer of sex appeal meant to be discovered. But for another day because the moment his eyes landed on the ebony haired vixen opposite the other female, he and his cock were summoning every naughty action they could think of to the forefront of his mind.

There was a lethal edginess to her features that drew him, like one bad look and she'd kill you with a swiftness he'd be jealous of. Face chiseled to feminine perfection, he could tell she was all business, the complete opposite of Miss Blue Streaks who was swimming away from her only to come back and say something that now had her laughing, which was a sight he made sure to ingrain in his memory.

The next instant, Youko moved. And unconsciously, Kuroune caught Youko's right arm with his hand in a tight grip, halting his advancement. A bad mistake.

Without warning, Youko emitted a low threatening growl before eyes red as blood flashed before Kuroune.

Stunned, Kuorune started with, "What the…..Youko are you—" Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. This was Kuroune's thought the moment he understood why he was staring eye to eye with Youko's beast.

Hardening his grim, Kuroune suddenly asked, "Which one?"

Youko roughly togged free of Kuroune's hold, eyeing him with menacing blood red eyes, another threatening growl growing in his chest.

"Youko." Kuroune now spoke with utter caution. "Which. One?"

At the sound of Miss Blue Streaks laughter, Youko's gaze instantly shifted, his body suddenly growing tense, now turning in her direction.

Kuroune let out a small breath he hadn't realized he had held. But for the innocent one to be the center of not only Youko, but his demon's attention, may God help her.

"I have no interest in her." Kuroune stated clearly for both humanoid fox and demon to hear. Youko's red hot glaze visited Kuroune's once more, scoping him out, ready to spot a lie. But finding none, he returned his attention to Miss Blue Streaks, his eye color flicking back to an amber gold though now rimmed in red before he made his way over to her.

"PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! Can we go, Meg? PLEASE!" Kiara begged. "We haven't gone in such a long time!"

"What do you mean we haven't gone in such a long time? We just visited the village a week ago! AND you also just bought a new outfit." Megumi pointed out as she rinsed her left arm of the suds formed after scrubbing a unique herb-ointment mixture Kiara created over her skin.

"And a cute one at that!" Kiara giggled. "But come on, Meg, before we continue on. It will only take a second. I promise I'll be quick!" Kiara's lush pink lips formed an adorable pout, as she brought her hands together, pleading.

Closing her eyes to ignore the effects of the pout as much as possible, Megumi replied, "You, 'quick' , and 'shopping' don't co-exist. Never did and never will. So I know you're lying through your teeth when you say otherwise." Megumi uttered, her face nonchalant, though her voice was filled with a hint of amusement. "And don't think that pout will work on me young lady. It may have worked on those demons we killed, but I will never succumb to it."

"Meg you're no fun at all, you know that." Kiara sighed heavily, crossing her arms as she did so. "And how many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that! I hate it. You know I hate it. So do yourself a favor and delete it from your vocabulary." Kiara gave Megumi a glare that would have stopped any demon dead in its tracks.

Heightened amusement pulsed through Megumi's gorgeous, amethyst eyes. Megumi loved ticking Kiara off. It was a gift she perfected over the years.

"Aw, is the little princess getting a temper?'" Megumi said in a mocking tone. A smirk crept up her face in victory when she spotted anger flicker in the depths of Kiara's mesmerizing blue eyes.

"Meg, take my advice and shut the HELL UP!" Kiara made sure to emphasize each word, especially the last two, signaling her state of irritation.

"Well, young lady, what if I don't want too? What are you going to do about it, hm?" Megumi advanced until she was in front of Kiara's face, crossing her arms under her wet naked breast, which were practically twice Kiara's size.

Kiara's eyes darkened to a deep blue, the silver in her eyes nearly taking over her, a signal of her summoning power. Power Megumi knew she didn't have in order to pick a fight. And where was she exactly? In water. Kiara's domain. Shit.

Kiara's eyes flickered in triumph once silently was made witness to Megumi's thoughts. But before she could do anything, a voice so deep it touched the very core of her soul, causing a shiver to rack her body, filled the air. The source of that voice? A few feet beside them.

NEXT SCENE

"What will you do, indeed?" Youko spoke, staring only at his woman of interest. And the second those blue-silver eyes fell on him, his beast roared to life within him, his eye color flicking back and forth between amber gold and blood red, an indication of his waning control. It growled deep in his head, wanting release, wanting her.

His mate. He had found her and now she was his for the taking.

Kiara couldn't believe it, Megumi thoughts the same, her body now tense, ready to fight. How could these two have snuck up on them like this? Two powerful demons, one bat one fox, who possessed auras that were ridiculous in strength.

Megumi cursed. Kiara was spent, could possibly muster a fight, but would die I seconds. And although she had some power left in her, it was nothing compared to these two. Megumi never, ever backed down from a challenge. It literally rubbed her the wrong way. But right now wasn't the time. She would swallow her pride because she needed to get her sister and herself out of here fast.

Kiara?— No response.

—Kiara!—

—I'm here!— Kiara answered telepathically.

—I need you to listen to me. These demons are strong, obviously highly skilled. We can't fight them off as we are now.— Then Megumi mentally sighed, dreading what she had to say next.

We need to run. Split up and run because we cannot take on both at the same time. Once we lose them in the forest, meet me back at our usual meeting point, got it.—

Yes.— Kiara replied, hiding her fear of leaving Megumi's side. The last time she did so, bad things happened.

Nana?— Megumi's nickname for her sister.

-Yes?—

You will be fine. We'll get through this. Sticky situations are our middle name. If anything happens, you reach out for me. I'll be there in no time. Just remember to refrain from using your powers. In the state we are in now we cannot afford to use it. And if anything, talk the demon to death, you know how great you are in doing that—

Megumi got what she wanted then. Kiara's mood lightened up, the anxiety and fear dissipating a bit.

Mentally sighing, Kiara said, -You be careful.—

Aren't I always!— And that was the last Megumi said before she swiftly escaped the springs, Kiara following a split second later in different directions.

"I love it when they run, don't you?" Kuroune inquired, flexing his hands in and out, a sudden high rushing through his veins.

The only answer Youko gave was an evil smirk before he took off in Kiara's direction.
