I thought I'd take on a new story. No promises on how fast I'll update, but I'll try my best.
I paced in front of the bar door praying that Abe walked through soon. I hated when he took too long it made me worry. Why did he have to go? Why couldn't anyone else go? This was ridiculous. Making me wait here while he went to pick up the barrels of alcohol. If I had gone with him I would know exactly what was going on and I wouldn't worry so much. It wasn't fair to me. Or to my best friend Lissa for that matter who was sitting on a bar stool taking another shot.
"I'm not too worried," she slurred. "I'm sort of just waiting for them to come back." She was lying. She was close to tears. The never lasted this long and she knew it. I sat next to her and clinked my shot glass to hers as I downed the liquor. It was getting dark out and more dangerous no doubt.
There was a multitude of things that could have happened. They could have been caught by the cops. Or worse yet caught by another gangster. Maybe they were caught in a turf war. Oh dear God please let them come home safe, I thought.
Just as I was taking another shot there was a loud ruckus outside the door as everyone stumbled in. I slammed my glass on the counter and turned around. The first person I saw walk through the door was Mason. I stormed towards him and slammed my hands against his chest.
"What is wrong with you guys?" I yelled. "You couldn't come home a little faster? Save me some goddamned worryin'? I was worried about you guys. Ya scared me half to death."
"Oh, stop with your worryin' Kiz." My father rested his hands on my shoulders. "We are fine, we were just running a little late is all."
All the guys finally made their way into the bar setting barrel upon barrel on the floor. They were all marked with a different name. Bacardi, Remy, Patron, Kraken, Fireball, Jack Daniel's…Etc. By the time they were all done bringing in all the barrels there were at least twenty of them.
Lissa sobered up a bit when she saw Christian and even helped him lift some barrels to the back where they were stored. I watched Mason, Eddie and Adrian struggle in their tightly pressed suits as they each took on their own barrel to lift. Eventually I helped them take everything to the back in fear that they would mess up my neatly organized back room. I ordered them around until everything was neatly in its place. My father did not hesitate to remind me that he was in fact the owner of the bar and I did not hesitate to remind him that I was the one stuck there all day running it.
By the time we were all done fixing everything up it was almost midnight and people started to trickle into the bar. The bar was of course under the guise of a Laundromat that was open twenty four hours and 'mysteriously' had well-dressed people going in at night. My mother ran the Laundromat during the day while I slept and I the bar at night and evening while she got ready for bed. Once a week the boys picked up a delivery that arrived like clockwork while they were so erratic with their timing that they sometimes got back so late that when the late crowd started to come in we still weren't finished organizing.
Once more and more people started to come in and form a crowd Lissa and I got to work. We had waitressing attend people that were sitting at tables but Lissa and I made all the drinks until Lissa's sister Jill arrived and helped us out.
That night the bar was really packed and my father and the boys decided to stay behind instead of going about their usual business. There was man sitting on a stool in front of Lissa who was clearly flirting with her and Christian walked over and whispered something into the man's ear. He quickly scurried away just as Christian sat down. Lissa stopped doing what she was doing and gave Christian a kiss. I rolled my eyes as I got back to mixing the drink in my hand. I placed it on one of the waitresses' tray and she hurried off to one of the tables.
"Eddie asked me to move in with him," I heard Jill yell over the loud music.
I looked over at her and smiled. "What did you say?" I yelled back.
She poured some tequila into a shot glass and slid it to a guy across from her. "Well, I said yes. I mean, why not?"
"Congrats, then." I smiled at her. "That's great."
I saw Lissa approach me from the corner of my eye. "Hey, I'll be right back." She let Christian pull her away and into the abyss that was the crowd.
"I wish she wouldn't do that," Jill said. "We are really busy and having sex in our bathroom isn't exactly hygienic."
Lissa and Christian ran off in the middle of her shift all too often. It slowed us down and caused a long line of people wanting drinks.
"Mia!" I yelled over the crowd to one of the waitresses. "We need you behind the counter." She swiftly hopped over the counter with her skirt flying everywhere, but she just winked at anyone who she might have flashed and got to work as she has had to so many times before. We got back on track even though we were still a little behind.
About half an hour later Lissa returned with a big smile on her face as she held Christians hand. As soon as she saw Mia in her spot she sneered.
"Get out of my spot." She bumped Mia as she retook her place.
"If you had been doing your job maybe I wouldn't have had to take it." Mia hopped back over the counter. I thanked her before she got back to attending to the customers.
After hours of serving countless men and the occasional women we were finally closed. It was five in the morning and I was falling asleep on my feet. My father was long gone; home I assumed. Eddie was quietly chatting with Jill as they put the chairs on tables. Lissa and Christian were wiping up the counter and putting all the alcohol bottles back in their place. The waitresses were mopping up the floor as Mason poured soap water on it. I was counting all the money but was having trouble keeping count as my eyes were drooping I felt someone pull out the chair in front of me and sit down I looked up to see Adrian's womanizing smile as he took some of the money from me to help count it. When we finally finished I set aside all the money for the girls and pocketed the rest reminding myself to not forget to give it to Abe. As everyone walked out the door I handed them each the amount they had earned that night. Mia got a little extra for working the bar even if it only was for a little while.
Before I handed Lissa her money I gave her and Christian a look. "You guys need to control yourselves while you are here. You guys can wait until later to quench your urges. Either that or I'm going to have to put Mia behind the bar or have you serve."
She knew not to argue with me; my threats were very real. Christian dared to roll his eyes at me and I elbowed him in the stomach. I wasn't the daughter of Ibrahim Mazur for nothing after all.
As I locked up Adrian lingered behind. He stepped closer to me. He fingered the hem of my pants. I refused to wear skirts. They were unflattering to me and I liked how my legs looked in pants.
He leaned down and trapped my lips with his. I wrapped my hand around his neck and pulled him closer. We were still inside the Laundromat and he pushed me against one of the washing machines. He lifted me onto it as his lips made their way to my neck. Wrapping my legs around his waist I brought him closer to me.
"Come home with me." He whispered against my neck.
I nodded as he pulled me off the machine and led me outside. I made sure we locked up before we hurriedly made our way to Adrian's car.
We didn't make it very far before Adrian and I just couldn't take it anymore.
I hoped you all like this. Please review and let me know.
