A/N: Honestly this chapter feels a little off to me, but I'm not sure why. I still hope you all like it though.
Chapter 11: Two Weeks
Naruko had awoken early with Hinata still in her arms. The red head was happy. She was on a team with her best friend and her sensei was awesome. Things were going great for her and she did not think they could get any better. She would be surprised at how wrong she was. Eventually she felt Hinata stir in her arms and Naruko placed light kisses along her jaw to help her wake up faster. The Hyuga heir woke up and began to giggle as she realized what her fox girl was doing. Hinata decided to turn the tables a bit and began to tickle the red head. Naruko started to laugh and try to pull away from her Princess. Hinata would not let the girl escape and pinned her to the bed underneath her. The tickling stopped as they stared into each other's eyes. They held each other's gaze and slowly leaned in for a kiss. Before their lips could touch however there was a knock on the door. Both girls froze and watched the door intently. After a beat the two teens separated and Hinata cleared her throat.
"Come in." The door opened and in walked one of the maids. She turned to the two girls and bowed.
"Lady Hinata, there is a messenger at the gate for Lady Uzumaki." The woman did not rise and Naruko looked questioningly at Hinata. The girl leaned in close to whisper in the red head's ear.
"She's waiting for a reply." The red head blushed. Hinata's breath had been hot against her ear. After taking a moment to calm down she nodded her head and turned back towards the maid.
"Tell the messenger that I will be out shortly." The woman stood and nodded her head before she turned and left the room. The girls quickly got dressed in their usual clothes and made their way towards the front gate.
-Hyuga Compound Gates-
The two girls arrived at the gate to see a ninja dressed in a grey flak jacket and a cat mask. The girls looked at the man strangely. Naruko walked up to him.
"Who are you?" The man in the ninja looked down at the girl.
"Are you Naruko Uzumaki?" The red head nodded. "I am known as Tenzo. The Hokage sent me to inform you that he wishes to speak with you and that you should head to his office as soon as possible." As soon as the man was finished speaking he disappeared in a puff of smoke. Naruko was trying to figure out what the Hokage wanted to speak to her about when she felt her hand being squeezed. She turned and smiled at Hinata.
"I should probably get going Hinata. I don't want to keep the Hokage waiting." The blue haired teen nodded her head and pecked Naruko on the lips. Naruko beamed at the girl and give Hinata her own kiss before she ran off into the streets.
-Academy Building-
The fox teen looked at the building fondly. She did not have many memories of the place, but those that she did have were precious. It also felt strange being there again, when just a few days ago she had taken an exam here to become a genin. She made her way inside and told the receptionist her name and that the Hokage wanted to see her. The woman smiled at the girl and told her to go right in. Naruko thanked the woman and entered the Hokage's office. What she saw shocked her. The Hokage was leaning back in his chair snoring loudly. The girl quickly became annoyed and slammed the door as she walked in. The bang was loud enough to wake the Hokage and he promptly fell out of his chair. Naruko could not believe that this man was the Hokage. He seemed much too lax for the position. Not to mention that falling out of his chair made him look foolish. She just stared at him as he pulled himself off the floor. As he stood up he looked at her with his one eye and smiled brightly at her as he walked out from behind his desk.
"You must be Naruko. I'm so glad to finally meet you!" The man stuck out his hand and the red head took hold of it so they could shake. Her annoyance dissipated in the face of the man's bright demeanor. He did not seem like a bad guy, more laid back than anything.
"It's good to meet you Lord Hokage." The man just let out a laugh as he shook his head. He found it funny that the girl was being so proper.
"You don't need to be that formal. Just call me Obito." Naruko was surprised at how casual he was. He was not like Lord Sarutobi. The older man and Obito were both quite nice and good people, but the Third Hokage had been much more proper when it came to formality. The red head did not quite know how to deal with his man being Hokage.
"How about we compromise and I call you Lord Obito." The Uchiha chuckled a little before he nodded. It was better than being called Lord Hokage all the time. He motioned for the girl to take a seat as he made his way back around the desk. He sat down and looked at the girl for a moment before he began.
"The reason I wanted to meet with you was to discuss you becoming the head of the Uzumaki clan." Obito now had the girl's undivided attention. "You're thirteen now so for all intents and purposes you are the clan head. The only thing left is to fill out some paperwork and have a proper ceremony." Naruko could not believe how easy it sounded.
"Is that really it?" The Hokage nodded his head as he smiled. As the news sank in Naruko began to laugh. Things were finally starting to move. She could finally start to revive her clan! All she had to do was find some strong people to adopt. The red head calmed down after a moment and looked at the Hokage with joy in her eyes. "This is really great! When is the ceremony going to be?" Obito smiled at the girl as he pulled out some paper and flipped through it.
"The earliest we can hold it is in two weeks. How does that sound?" Naruko was nodding her head furiously.
"That sounds great!" The man chuckled a bit at the girl's enthusiasm. She reminded him of himself when he was younger.
"Alright, the ceremony will be two weeks from now at eight. I'll invite the officials that have to be there and you can feel free to invite your friends. We'll have the ceremony in the hall here at the academy so it should fit everyone." Again Naruko nodded her head. Everything sounded like a great idea to her at the moment. Obito finished writing down the details on his schedule and looked back up at the girl. "Okay, with that taken care of the only thing left to talk about is your inheritance." The fox girl froze that the man's words.
"Inheritance?" She had no idea that she was supposed to get any kind of inheritance. Obito regarded the girl and nodded.
"Yes. On your thirteenth birthday your inheritance became available to you, but you were not in the village at the time to receive it. You're back now so I can give it to you." Obito pulled out a small stack of paper with an envelope on top from his desk and handed it to Naruko. The red head set the envelope aside. It was addressed to her so she figured she would read it later. She started to look through the papers which were the records for a considerable bank account. There was even a deed at the back of the stack that declared her the owner of a small piece of land near the edge of the village. Naruko could not believe what she was seeing.
"I own a house?" The Hokage nodded as he smiled.
"It's not a house. It's actually a small compound that can house roughly twenty people." Naruko just shook her head a little. It was a lot to take in. She looked at the bank records again before she looked back up at Obito.
"This is a lot of money." Again the Hokage nodded and smiled.
"Yes it is Naruko, though some of the money was taken out for various repairs on the compound over the years. Though I would imagine that the place would still be quite a mess, the last time it was worked on was three years ago." Naruko just sat in silence as she processed everything. She had a home? She had a home. She had a home! As the thought finally sunk in the red head jumped out of her chair in excitement.
"This is so awesome!" Obito could not help but laugh as he saw how happy the girl was. He reached back into his desk and pulled out a key ring that he threw to Naruko. The red head snatched it out of the air and looked at it before she turned back towards the Hokage. The man had a pleasant look on his face.
"Those are the keys to the house and the various rooms in it. Two sets actually." The fox girl looked down at the keys again before she regarded the Hokage with a bow.
"Thank you very much for all of this Lord Obito." The man bowed his head towards her.
"You're welcome. Now you should probably get going, if the schedule I got from Kurenai is correct you have training at noon today and it is already eleven thirty." Naruko's eyes went wide as she looked at the clock hanging on the wall. It was eleven thirty two. She paled a bit before racing towards the door.
"Thanks again Lord Obito! See you around." With that the girl rushed out of the room shutting the door roughly behind her. Obito laughed a bit at the girl's departure.
-Training Ground 12-
Hinata had arrived early and was sitting on one of the stone seats waiting for the rest of her team to arrive. Around eleven Kurenai arrived and the two struck up a pleasant conversation. Shino arrived not long after the conversation started. He sat down with them but remained silent for the most part unless a question was directed at him. At ten to twelve Naruko came running through the entrance. She stopped and saw her team sitting down so she went over to join them. As she sat down her stomach growled loudly and she realized that she had missed breakfast. Hinata chuckled a little when she heard the noise and reached into her bag that was on the ground next to her. She pulled out a cinnamon roll and handed it to her fox girl. Naruko looked on the verge of tears as she locked eyes with her Princess.
"You're the best Hinata." The red head leaned forward and hugged the girl before she started to eat her food. Kurenai regarded them for a moment before she stood up.
"Alright everyone, now that we are all here I'll get started. For the next few months you will either be training here or doing missions in the village. We'll start off with training and switch to missions after the first week. We'll switch back and forth each week." The genin all nodded as they absorbed the information. It sounded reasonable so they could not complain. Naruko finished her cinnamon roll before she met eyes with her sensei.
"So what kind of training will we be doing?" Kurenai smiled at them and waved for them to follow her as she turned. The walked into the forest a little and stopped by some very large trees. The jonin was pleased with the area and turned towards her students.
"You all will be practicing tree climbing." The three genin looked from their sensei to the trees that were surrounding them. Once again Naruko spoke up first.
"Um sensei, I'm pretty sure we can clear these trees in a few jumps." The other genin agreed with her as they nodded their heads. Kurenai chuckled a little before she responded.
"I know that Naruko, but I'm talking about a different kind of tree climbing." Before anyone could ask what she meant the woman turned and began to walk up the side of a tree. Shino and Hinata's mouths were slightly open. They were impressed by the action. Naruko just seemed bored as she looked up at her sensei.
"I can already do that." Her two teammates turned to look at her in surprise. Kurenai dropped from the tree and landed on her feet in front of the red head.
"I know Naruko, I read the report Jiraiya made about your training. I plan on having you do physical training while the others work on this." The fox girl accepted the response with a nod. Kurenai turned toward the other genin. "To climb the tree you need to pour chakra into your feet to stick to it. Too little and you don't stick. Too much and you will push yourself off. You two should each take out a kunai so you can mark your progress. Naruko I want you to do laps around the training ground and report back here after each lap to do an exercise routine that I have prepared for you." The genin all nodded and got to work. Hinata and Shino started to walk up the trees as Naruko went off to start her first lap. The Hyuga heir had fallen off the tree the first few times, but she got the hang of it and started to make progress. Shino made it five steps up the tree on his first try, but he was panting slightly when he got back to the ground. Kurenai took notice of his fatigue and walked up to the brown haired teen.
"Shino, this may be quite difficult for you. Your insects feed off of your chakra so your reserves are probably fairly low most of the time." Shino nodded. He was aware of that fact already. "Fortunately if you keep at this it will help to increase your reserves as well as your control. Take breaks as you need them, just don't give up." The teen nodded again and went back to his training. After about twenty minutes Naruko made it back from her first lap and Kurenai gave the girl her work out. The exercise routine was fairly intense, but Naruko knew that it would pay off in the long run. As she worked out she observed the progress of her teammates. Hinata was progressing steadily and Shino was not very far off the ground, but he seemed determined to succeed. The red head could not help but smile at her friends. The rest of the day went on like this before Kurenai dismissed them around seven. The group parted ways and Naruko and Hinata got dinner at Ichiraku's on their way back to the Hyuga compound.
-Hinata's Room-
The teens had already bathed and changed into their sleepwear. They settled into bed and snuggled up to each other. Naruko pecked her Princess on the lips. Hinata was already falling asleep, but she woke up a bit from the kiss. She focused and realized that Naruko seemed upset about something.
"What is it Naru?" The red head smiled at the girl and nuzzled her face into Hinata's neck.
"I'm just thinking about what the Hokage told me today." Hinata pulled back a little so she could look Naruko in the eyes.
"What did he say?" The fox girl smiled a bit and told Hinata about the money and the compound that were now hers as well as the ceremony that was coming up. The blue haired teen was confused. "That all sounds great so why do you seem upset?" Naruko shrugged a bit and turned her head so she could look at the ceiling.
"Because it means that I'll have to move out eventually and I won't be able to sleep next to you anymore." Hinata blinked a few times as she absorbed what she just heard. Naruko was finally becoming the head of her clan and all she cared about was not being able to stay with Hinata. The Hyuga teen felt her chest tighten as her breath left her.
"I love you." Naruko's head snapped forward to stare intently at her Princess. Hinata smiled as she raised her hand to scratch behind her red head's ears. Naruko leaned into the touch. "I know we said that we would wait till we were older to have a relationship, but I just couldn't wait to say that anymore. I love you Naruko and I always will." Naruko was frozen. Her brain had literally stopped working. Hinata took the pause negatively and her face turned sad. "I understand if you don't want to say it back yet. I did rush things. I just thought that you lov…" The girl was cut off as her mouth became occupied with a far more important task than talking. Naruko had brought their lips together in a fierce kiss. The kiss lasted no more than a few moments but it felt like a lifetime to the girls. It was so much more than all their other kisses combined. It held passion and promises of a future, but most of all it held love. The two parted breathing heavily with their hearts pounding in their chests. As Naruko caught her breath she planted little kisses on Hinata's lips. Once the red head had recovered she smiled brightly at her love.
"Don't ever think that I don't love you. I've been in love with you since I was four years old, I just didn't know it back then. I know we said that we would wait till we were older to have a relationship, but when you think about it we've pretty much been in a committed relationship since we were kids. I still think that we should hold off on making anything public for the time being, at least until we're both a little older. I just don't think we're ready to handle it yet and I don't want you getting hurt." Naruko grew quiet and her expression soured. Hinata did not understand what the girl was talking about. The red head could see the question in her Princess's eyes. "Hinata you're in love with a half-demon. There are a lot of people out there who well hate you just for being with me. We've been lucky so far to be surrounded by good friends who accept us, but it's not like that everywhere. The reason I learned the transformation technique so young was because it was the only way to keep people from trying to hunt me down and beat me. I hated them. I was only a child and I knew what true hatred was. If it wasn't for Dad and Momma I don't even know how I would have turned out. Hell, I don't think I would have survived without them." Naruko let out a sigh and shook her head to get her thoughts back on track. "What I'm trying to say is that I don't want you getting hurt because of me." The red head looked at her love sadly and saw tears in Hinata's eyes. Naruko raised her hand and as she wiped away the tears Hinata reached up and held the red head's hand to her cheek. She then brought it to her lips and placed a kiss in the red head's palm before looking back into Naruko's eyes.
"I had no idea that you had to go through all that. I'm so sorry." The red head smiled a little and pulled the girl closer to her.
"It's alright Princess. It's in the past and I have something now that more than makes up for everything that I went through." Hinata looked up at Naruko as she wiped away her remaining tears.
"What?" Naruko just smiled as she leaned forward to bring their foreheads together.
"You." Hinata could not help but smile. The red head returned the smile as she leaned forward and kissed her Princess again. They stayed in each other's arms for a while just enjoying the warmth before Hinata pulled away a little to look at the red head.
"I love you." Naruko let out a laugh and shook her head before she placed a peck on the Hyuga girl's lips.
"I love you too." Hinata leaned in again but this time she placed a light kiss on the fox girl's nose. Naruko went red and Hinata giggled, she knew how sensitive her red head's nose was. After a moment Hinata turned serious again and took Naruko's hand.
"I know you want to protect me, but I can take care of myself now. I'm strong. You're the one who taught me that. I know I can handle anything that gets thrown at me as long as I have you there with me." Naruko chocked up a bit and a tear ran down her cheek as she nodded her head. She pulled Hinata closer to her so that they could once again settle in for the night. Hinata felt the familiar warmth of tails wrap around her and thought that Naruko had fallen asleep. She was proven wrong when she heard the red head hum before she got up quickly. Hinata looked over at the girl.
"What's wrong?" Naruko shook her head as she settled back into bed with a letter in her hands.
"Nothing. I just forgot about this." Hinata looked down at the letter. It looked old.
"What is it?" Naruko stared intently at the envelope in her hands.
"I think it's from my parents." Hinata gasped in surprise as she realized just how important that little envelope probably was.
"Are you going to open it?" The red head nodded resolutely as she carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. Hinata snuggled closer to her fox girl so that they could both read the letter.
To my beautiful baby girl,
It's me your mommy. My name is Kushina and I hope to kami that someone actually told you who I am. Otherwise I might just have to haunt some asses. Haha.
I'm holding you in my arms right now as I write this. You're so beautiful. You're going to be a real heart breaker when you get older, I just know it, but maybe I'm a bit biased. I can't believe that you're already eight months old. Time really does fly by, especially when you don't want it to. I've only got a few months left so I wanted to write this before it was too late. I've been putting this off long enough already. You should know that your father and I love you. We will always love you. You are our beautiful daughter and you mean the world to us. That's why we made sure you would be taken care of. Kurama is already looking after you inside your seal. I didn't even have to ask him. When he heard that your body was rejecting you demonic chakra and that it could kill you he instantly volunteered to help. He always was my best friend and I hope he becomes yours as well. How is that old furry butt anyway? Is he doing okay?
Besides Kurama I made sure that Jiraiya would be able to look after you. It took some convincing but after a few good hits to the head he finally came around. I only hope he doesn't turn you into some kind of pervert. It was your father's idea to have him named your godfather, not mine. Don't get me wrong, I love the old bastard like family, but I don't think he could raise a child. Hopefully Tsunade will show up and help him out or at least straighten him out. I swear those two act like an old married couple sometimes. Kami knows that neither of them would admit to that though.
Sorry. Where was I? You just started crying and I realized it was time for your nap. You look so cute in your little pajamas.
But back to the point. I hope you're doing well and that you're happy. That's all I really want for you. I don't care what you do or who you end up with I just want you to be happy. Promise me that you will do that, okay? I'm trying not to cry right now. I don't want to stain the paper, but it's so hard not to cry. I'm going to miss you so much. I've barely gotten to know you yet. What will you look like when you're two? When you're twenty? Who will be your first crush, your first kiss? I won't get to see your wedding. It's not fair. It's not fair, but there's nothing I can do about it. The damage is already done. Hell, even Tsunade says that it's a miracle that I've lived this long, so for that I am grateful. I know I won't get to see your grow up, that I won't be there to help you through the tough times, and celebrate with you during the good times. I don't know what the future holds for you, but I do know this. You will be amazing, fantastic, and unbelievably perfect. The world can be yours if only you try. Nothing will be beyond your reach and if it seems like it is just try harder. Never give up on your dreams and never stop loving those closest to you. I know that your life will be hard, but you can make it through it honey. I know you can. I love you.
With all the love in my heart, Kushina.
Both girls were in tears by the time they had finished reading the letter. Naruko sniffled as she brought letter to close to her and hugged it dearly.
"I love you too mommy." She then felt arms wrap around her and turned to see Hinata holding on to her.
"I wish I could have met her." Naruko just nodded as a small smile appeared on her face. Her mommy was an amazing person and even though she could not remember her she loved her. Gingerly Naruko folded up the letter again and placed it back in its envelope. She set it down on the night stand next to her and rolled over so she was facing Hinata. The red head did not even need to say anything Hinata just wrapped her arms around her love and held her tight. It was not long before they both succumbed to sleep.
-Uzumaki Compound-
The girls had gotten up early and decided that they would spend their morning exploring the Uzumaki compound. The sun was just rising as they reached the gates. The bright morning light gave them a clear view of the place. There was a high wooden wall that surrounded the compound. Just over the wall they could make out the tops of trees and the roof of a building. Naruko glanced at Hinata as the girl took her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. The red found her resolve and pulled out the key ring. After a few tries she found the right one and opened the gate. The two teens entered into an over grown lawn. They both glanced around before following the path towards the main building. As they approached they saw a little bridge and as they crossed it Hinata was pleasantly surprised to see fish in the little stream. She pointed them out to Naruko and the red head smiled at the sight. Naruko took her Princess's hand and led her over the rest of the bridge. Instead of continuing on the path the fox girl turned and they walked around the building. It was a square structure with a larger two story portion in the back. They could not go all the way around as the back portion was fenced off so they turned around. When they reach the front again Naruko pulled out the keys to open the door. The locked turned, but she could not open the door. It seemed to be stuck so she did the proper thing and gave it a swift kick. The red head was pleased with herself as the door swung open. Inside was an empty entryway that lead to the main hallway that went right and left of the entry way. Right across from them was a door. They walked forward and opened the door. The girls both gasped at what they saw. Hinata found her voice first.
"It's beautiful." Naruko could only nod her head. It really was beautiful. In front of them was a decent sized garden that had a banzai tree, a rock garden, and a small pound. There were various pathways that cut through the grass. Even though it was overgrown it was still breathtaking. Naruko glanced around and realized that that the entire structure was a giant square with the garden at its center. The red head decided that she liked her new home. She reached over and gave Hinata's Hand a squeeze to get the girl's attention.
"So what do you think?" Hinata smiled brightly.
"I think it's beautiful, but it'll be a while before it you can stay here." The red head had to agree. They had not finished exploring, but she could already tell that it was going to take quite a while even if she used shadow clones. It would take some time before she could move in. The thought caused her to brighten.
"I guess I don't have to worry about sleeping by myself quite yet." Hinata blushed as she smiled. The fox girl chuckled and leaned in to place a kiss on her Princess's cheek. The Hyuga heir looked around at the garden again before turning to face Naruko.
"Honestly though it will take a lot of work. How are you going to manage?" The red head laughed and turned to make her way back towards the entrance. Hinata followed her and Naruko turned around so she was walking backwards.
"I actually have an idea about that." Hinata looked at the girl quizzically.
"And what might that be?" Naruko grinned ear to ear as she thought of how she could put her new wealth to good use.
"You'll see." They left the compound and locked up on their way out.
-Hokage's Office-
Kurenai had spent the last week training her team in tree climbing and having them do workouts to make them stronger. Hinata had made it to the top of her tree after three days and Kurenai had her join Naruko in her exercise routine. The genjutsu user noticed that Naruko was significantly slower the first day that Hinata had joined her so Kurenai had asked Anko to keep an eye on the girls the next day. Sure enough Naruko's lap time returned to what it had been before Hinata joined her. On the sixth day Shino made it to the top and to congratulate them all on finishing the training before the week ended she let them have the last day off. It was fortunate for her because it let her go see the Hokage about their first D-rank mission, which is why she had gone to his office. Kurenai gave a slight bow as she entered.
"Greetings Lord Hokage." Obito let out a sigh. He was beginning to question his choice in accepting the position of Hokage. He could just not get used to all of the formality. The Uchiha rubbed the back of his neck to relieve some of the stress that was building up there.
"Kurenai? How many times have I told you to just call me Obito? You really don't have to be so formal with me. We've known each other for years." Kurenai just smiled at the man. She had told him many times before that the reason she was formal with him was because she respected him and the position that he held. The Hokage knew the look Kurenai had on her face. It meant that she was going to keep calling him Hokage whether he liked it or not. Obito raised his hands in defeat as he shook his head. "I really can't win with you can I? So what brings you here?" Kurenai straightened her back before she replied.
"I'm here to request a mission for my team." The Hokage raised the eyebrow over his good eye in a questioning manor.
"Normally I would wonder why you didn't just go to the mission office for this, but I'm actually glad you came to me first. I have a mission here from a client that requested your team specifically." Kurenai was quite shocked at what she heard. They had not done any missions before so why would anyone request them. Obito saw her confusion and pulled out a piece of paper that he handed to the woman. Kurenai took the sheet and read it. She looked at the Hokage incredulously.
"Is this real?" The man smiled as he nodded.
-Uzumaki Compound-
"Naru, why are we here?" It was about ten thirty and Kurenai had told them to meet at the training ground at ten. Hinata was a bit anxious to get to the grounds, she did not like being late. Naruko turned and smiled at the girl.
"Relax Princess. It'll work out just fine." Hinata frowned at her red head. She did not like the vague answers that she had been getting since that morning. Naruko had insisted that they go to the Uzumaki Compound before they went to the training ground to get their first mission from Kurenai. The fox girl saw the frown and as she moved in close to her Princess she placed a light kiss on the girl's lips. "Don't worry, they'll be here soon." Hinata had a puzzled look on her face. Who would be here soon? The blue haired teen did not know that they were meeting anyone. Her attention refocused on Naruko when she saw the girl sniff the air. "In fact here they come now." The fox teen pointed down the street. Hinata looked to where the finger had pointed and after a moment saw Kurenai and Shino come into view. When they reached the girls Hinata looked back and forth between the two. She was quite confused as to what was going on.
"Sensei? Why are you and Shino here?" Kurenai shook her head before she looked at Naruko.
"You didn't tell her?" The fox girl shook her head and Kurenai let out a sigh. "We're here to preform our first mission. Naruko hired us to help clean this place up." Hinata was surprised at the answer and turned towards Naruko for confirmation. The red head nodded vigorously.
"I knew I needed some help with the cleaning and repairs and I have all this money now so I figured that I would put it to good use." Hinata was a pleasantly surprised with the response so she took hold of Naruko's hand and gave it a squeeze. The red head smiled at her Princess before she turned around to open the door. The team walked inside and Kurenai gave their surroundings a quick once over before she turned to Naruko.
"Alright Naruko, even though you are on our team you are still the client so where do you want us to start?" The red head rubbed her chin for a moment before she brightened and snapped her fingers.
"It's a nice day out so let's do yard work today. We can leave off doing the inside for another day." The genjutsu user nodded and thought for a minute before speaking.
"Hinata I want you to use your Byakugan to find any holes that might be in the wall and to repair them as you find them. Shino, have your insects search the area for termites or any other form of insect that could be harmful to the area. Then I want you to get rid of them however you see fit. Naruko I want you to make twenty clones and have them do the landscaping, mostly cutting the grass and fixing up the paths. I'll be rotating between the three of you to help." The genin all nodded and went about their work. By the end of the day Hinata had found and repaired twenty seven holes in the wall around the compound, Shino had convinced a colony of red ants that it was in their best interests to relocate, and Naruko had cut the lawn down to an acceptable length. Kurenai was pleased with their effort and smiled brightly at them all.
"Good job everyone. At this rate it won't take us too long to fix up the whole house." The genin showed signs of gratitude at the kind words. It was a long day and hard work, but it felt good to get it finished. The black haired woman smiled as she regarded them all. "Naruko hired us for the entire week so report back here tomorrow morning." The teens all nodded before they left and as instructed came back the next morning. The team spent the rest of the day working around the place and by the time the week was out the compound was all cleaned up and repaired, but still needed a few necessities before Naruko could move in.
-Training Ground 12-
"Alright, today we will be determining what nature affinity you have. Since none of your clans specialize in nature jutsu I'm assuming none of you know your nature type." The three genin nodded their heads. "Alright determining your affinity is rather easy, all you need is this." Kurenai pulled out a small piece of paper and pour some of her chakra into it. The paper became damp and bent over from the weight of the water. "This is paper made from a special tree that had chakra feed into it throughout its growth. By feeding the paper some of your chakra it will react differently depending on your nature type. Fire affinity will obviously resolute in it on fire. Wind will cause it to split in half. The paper will wrinkle if you have lightning affinity. Earth affinity causes it to crumble to dust. And lastly water will result in making it wet. Obviously my nature affinity is water." The genjutsu user handed a piece of paper to each of the genin and they poured some chakra into it. Shino was the first to get a reaction, his paper disintegrated in the wind. Kurenai turned to Hinata and was pleasantly surprised to see that the girl also had water affinity. She then turned to Naruko and saw the red head looking strangely at her paper. Kurenai looked down at the paper and saw that not only had is split in half, but also that both halves had lit on fire. Kurenai was quite shocked. Naruko looked up at her sensei.
"Did I mess up somehow?" Kurenai shook her head.
"No Naruko, you just have two nature affinities. That happening is very rare." The red head smiled proudly for being able to do something that not many other people could do. Hinata was also impressed with her love. The girl just seemed to get more incredible as time went on. Kurenai had taken a moment to process everything as she formed a plan. "Alright, even though you have two affinities it doesn't change anything. The next part of your training will consist of learning one nature type ninjutsu. I know water and some fire ninjutsu as well as genjutsu so I will have other ninja come in to help teach you. We will be switching up our training schedule a bit. Instead of switching between missions and training each week we will be doing short periods of training with missions in between. Now I want you all to spend the rest of the day trying to channel your nature type into a kunai. The process is different for everyone so it will take a lot of trial and error." The genin nodded and went about their training. As the hours passed Kurenai was pleased with the progress that they were making. She could already tell that they were getting the hang of it. Once it hit seven she called a halt to their training and sent them all home. They had made good progress that day.
A/N: Not going to lie. I cried when I wrote the note from Kushina.
Next time: Naruko becomes the clan head.
