Chapter 2

It was 10 in the morning and Luke and Lorelai were lying in bed together. "Morning Mr Danes!" Lorelai smiled.

"Morning Mrs Danes!" Luke smiled back.

They were interrupted by banging on the front door though. "Who on earth is that?" Lorelai exclaimed. They both went down and opened the door. "Chris..?" Lorelai said shocked.

Rory had woken up because of the knocking but stayed in her room and listened.

"How dare you Lor! How dare you!" Christopher shouted.

"What?" Lorelai said shocked.

"How dare you not tell me about this! You bringing a strange man into the house where my daughter lives and then get married!" He shouted.

"Hang on..." Lorelai said angrily.

"He is trying to push me away and replace me! I'm Rory's dad, not some stupid diner guy! He is nothing to her! Did you ever consider what this would do to me or Rory?" He shouted angrily.

"Hey!" Rory said from the hall. She had heard everything and had had enough.

"Rory, hey..." Christopher said, warmly.

"Don't you dare hey me! For your information, Luke isn't just a strange man. I've known him pretty much my whole life and I'm ecstatic that he's married mom and has moved in!" Rory said angrily.

"Rory, he's trying to replace me..." Christopher said trying to reason with her.

"Good!" Rory said. "I love Luke and he's been more of a father to me than you!"

"That's not fair..."

"Isn't it? Do you remember the day mom went for a girls' weekend away with Sookie? I was having a horrible day and I rang you. You said you were too busy and that you were about to go out with your mates! I was so upset and felt so alone at the house." Rory was trembling with anger now. "You couldn't care less! I needed you dad! I needed you to come and comfort me and tell me everything was going to be ok! It was only until 11 at night that I realised you were just going to ignore my several phone calls and messages. I couldn't ring mom because I didn't want to ruin her weekend. The one person who was there for me that night was Luke!" Rory shouted taking a breath. Lorelai was shocked. Rory and Luke had never told her about this as they didn't want to worry or upset her. "And do you know what he did, dad? He selflessly got out of bed, got dressed and came straight over! He didn't care that he had to be up early to open the diner. He sat with me for hours just listening and making me feel better! He even slept on the sofa to make sure I didn't feel alone that night!" Rory shouted.

Christopher was silent.

"So don't you dare think you have a right to come in and attack mom and Luke like you have! Luke is not nothing. He is far from nothing to me! I wish he was my dad and not you! Just go please!" Rory was crying now.

"But Rory..."

"No! Just go! I hate you!" Rory shouted.

Christopher was silent but knew better than to argue and left. Rory stood there trembling. "Sorry mom..." She mumbled and then ran to her room, closing her door behind her. She lay on her stomach on her bed with her head in the pillow, crying.

"Wow...that was..." Luke said totally shocked and also touched by what Rory had said.

"Yeh..." Lorelai said. She turned round to face Luke. "Did you really do that for her?"

"She rang me up and she was crying. I had to make sure she was ok." Luke said quietly.

Lorelai just smiled and kissed him. "Thank you."

Lorelai then went to Rory's room and knocked on the door. "Hon?" She said softly.

Rory turned round to see her mum entering the room. "Sorry mom..." She sniffed. "He just made me so angry saying those things about Luke.."

"I know sweetie. I don't blame you."

"I feel bad now though. I said some horrible things to dad..." Rory sniffed.

"He knows you didn't mean them." Lorelai hugged her. "You were just angry."

Rory nodded and wiped her eyes. "Is Luke still in the living room?"

"I think so. I think I can hear the tv."

Rory nodded and went to the living room and sat down next to Luke. "I'm sorry..." She said quietly.

"Hey, what are you sorry about?" Luke said shocked.

"About the things my dad said. They're not true." Rory said.

Luke smiled. "Don't worry."

Rory smiled and leant her head on Luke's shoulder. "I meant what I said. I wish you were my dad." She said quietly.

Luke smiled and put his arm round her. "Me too kiddo."

Lorelai came in and smiled at what she saw. She knew she had found the one for her. She then lightened the mood. "Right who wants pizza?" She said cheerily.

"For breakfast?" Luke smirked.

"Yes it's a special day! We deserve it!" Lorelai laughed.

Rory chuckled. "Pizza's good mom, thanks!"

Luke just shook his head. "Sometimes I just don't know what's going on in those heads of yours!"

Everyone laughed.
