Chapter 12

Emily looked shocked. "I'll take her to the hospital. My car's outside."

"No I don't want you anywhere near me!" Lorelai said. "Just go mom!"

Rory ran in. "What's going on?"

"Your mom's gone into labour. We need to get her to hospital." Luke said.

"Oh my god!" Rory said realising the seriousness of this.

"I can take Rory." Emily said. "You two go."

"No this is all your fault!" Rory shouted. "I'm going with them." She said. "Is that ok?" She asked Luke.

Luke nodded. "Come on. We need to go now. Grab the bag in our bedroom." He said.

Rory nodded and ran to get it.

Emily took the hint and left, hurt.

They got to the hospital. Lorelai was in hysterics as she knew it was too early. Luke was doing his best to comfort her but he was terrified himself. They led Lorelai to a room. "I'll wait out here." Rory said quietly, needing a minute. She watched them rush into a private room and she went to sit down outside.

She was really worried. This is all her mom wanted and it was all going wrong. Her first child with Luke. She just hoped her little sister would be ok. She rang Sookie to tell her what happened and to spread the news round. Sookie agreed to and told Rory to give her mom her best wishes. Rory then rang Lane.

"Hello?"

"Lane, it's me." Rory said quietly.

"Rory? Is everything ok?" She asked.

"Mom's gone into labour."

"Already? Isn't it too early?"

"Yeh..." Rory said quietly.

"Oh Rory...I'm so sorry. I hope everything goes ok. I'm here if you need to talk." She said.

"Thanks Lane." Rory said and hung up. She just sat there not knowing what to do. She felt tears falling down her cheeks. Luke came out to check on her. She wiped her tears quickly when she saw him. "How's mom?" She asked.

"She's in the best hands. They said it might take a while but the longer it takes, the better." Luke said sitting down next to her.

"Are they going to be ok?" Rory asked quietly.

"They said that she's likely going to have to go in a incubator, being this early." Luke said. "But if she's anything like you and your mom, she'll be a fighter." He smiled trying to make Rory feel better.

Rory looked at him. "Are you ok?" She asked.

"Could be better.." He admitted.

Rory leant her head on his shoulder. "I'm scared Luke..." She said quietly.

"So am I.." Luke said quietly putting his arm round Rory. After a few minutes, Rory sat up properly. "You should get back in there. Mom will want you." She said.

Luke nodded. "You sure you're ok?" He asked softly.

"Just let me know when anything happens." She said. She watched Luke go back into the room.

After what seemed like hours, Luke reappeared. "She's done it." He said.

Rory looked up at him. "How are they?" She asked.

"Your mom's fine healthwise. Your baby sister's been put in an incubator but they said first signs are good." He smiled.

Rory smiled back and breathed a sigh of relief. "Come on, come meet your baby sister." He smiled.

Rory nodded and followed Luke to a room where Lorelai was sat gazing at her daughter in the incubator. "Mom?" Rory said quietly.

Lorelai looked up and smiled at Rory. "Hey kid... come meet your sister." She said.

Rory went over and hugged her and then looked at her sister. "She's beautiful mom." She smiled. "You've done amazing. I'm so proud of you." Rory smiled.

"So am I." Luke said walking over to Lorelai and kissed her before sitting down next to her. Rory looked over at them and smiled.

"Have you thought of a name?" Rory asked.

"We were thinking about Beth. But we wanted your opinion." Lorelai smiled.

"Beth...Beth Danes." Rory contemplated looking at her sister. "I like it." She smiled.

"Good." Lorelai smiled.

"Mom?" Rory said.

"Yeh?"

"I know you won't want grandma but shouldn't we call grandpa?" Rory asked.

Lorelai sighed but nodded. "Yeh call him and tell him he can visit anytime." She said.

Rory nodded and left the room.

Lorelai looked at Luke. "Thanks for being there for me." She said.

"Anytime." Luke smiled.

"We have a daughter." Lorelai said tearily.

"That we do." Luke answered and quickly wiped a small tear from his eye.
