Chapter 13

The next day, Lorelai had convinced Rory and Luke to go home for a bit. They agreed, Rory to see Lane and take a shower and Luke to catch up on some diner stuff. Luke dropped Rory off at Lane's and then went to the diner.

"Hey!" Rory smiled as Lane let her in.

"Hey Rory!" How's your mum and Beth?" She asked.

"Yeh both doing ok." Rory smiled.

"How about you?"

"Yeh I'm ok..." Rory said quietly.

"Really?"

Rory sighed. "Why does everyone hate Luke? Everyone just seems to have something against him and my mom." She said.

"Have you seen your dad again?" Lane asked worried.

"No. But my grandma had a right go at Luke in our house. She pretty much said she believed my dad." Rory said.

"Wow..." Lane said.

"Why can't people be happy?" Rory said.

"That's just two people Rory." She said softly. "The whole town loves Luke and your mom."

"I know..." Rory said. "It's just...oh maybe I'm just being stupid."

"Just focus on you." Lane smiled.

Rory hugged her. "Thanks."

"What are friends for?" Lane smiled hugging her back.

Rory then went home to have a shower and have a quick nap. She then packed some things for her mom and picked up a teddy bear she had bought for her sister. She then made her way to Luke's as he was giving her a lift back.

"Rory!" A voice called suddenly as she was walking to the diner.

Rory turned round and froze. "D..Dad?"

"Look, I'm sorry Rory..." Chris said.

"For what? Trying to kill Luke or telling lies in court?" Rory said angrily.

"Please Ror, I was angry! Please can we just go somewhere and talk? My car's park round the corner." He said reaching for the arm and trying to pull her over.

"No! Get off me!" Rory said trying to shake him off.

"Rory please! I just want to say sorry. Please come and talk."

"Dad you're scaring me!" Rory said scared and managed to wriggle free from his grip. She then ran to the diner as quick as possible. She was shaking.

"Rory? Are you ok?" Luke said seeing her.

Rory ran straight to him and hugged him tightly. "D...dad..." She said.

"What?"

"Dad was outside. He was trying to get me to go with him..." Rory said clearly shaken.

"What?" Luke said getting angry. "Is he still out there?"

"I don't know..." Rory said.

Luke went to go out. "No. Please stay." Rory said quietly. "I don't want him to do anything..."

Luke sighed but looked at Rory's face. "Ok. You sure you're ok?" He asked softly. "He didn't hurt you?"

"No just probably bruised my arm a bit trying to get me to his car." Rory said.

Luke couldn't believe it. He was so angry at Christopher. How could he do this to Rory?

"Can we go back to mom?" Rory asked.

Luke smiled. "Yeh come on then."

Rory followed Luke to his car, having a quick glance around but couldn't see her dad anywhere. They then drove to the hospital. As they were driving though, this car kept speeding up behind them.

"What the hell?" Luke said looking in the mirror.

Rory looked behind them and didn't recognise the driver. "What is he doing?"

"I don't know." Luke said going faster.

"He's following us." Rory said scared. "Is he trying to crash into us?"

Luke looked across at Rory. "Do you trust me?" He asked softly.

"Totally." She said without hesitation.

"Ok then, hold on tight." He said and then changed lanes to the hard shoulder and went as fast as he could up it, trying to lose the car.

It managed to work as when he went off at the next exit, they couldn't see the car anymore. Luke pulled up in a road by the pavement. "Are you ok?" He asked softly.

Rory nodded. "Yeh I'm fine. Why was that car following us though?"

"I don't know." Luke said, although he had a pretty good idea. "Maybe the driver was drunk or something."

Rory just nodded. "Let's go see mom." She said.

Luke nodded and they finally got to the hospital. They went into the room and Rory went and hugged mom.

"Hey hon! You were quite a long time. Everything ok at home?" She asked.

"Um..yeh everything was fine mom." Rory lied, glancing at Luke. Rory didn't want to worry her.

"Yeh my cooker just broke at the diner so it took time for me to cook the food." Luke said. "Which is here." He smiled bring out two bags.

"Yay! How I missed your food!" Lorelai grinned.

Rory and Luke sat down next to Lorelai.

"So how's Beth been?" Rory asked.

"Yeh good actually. The doctor said she's making good progress." Lorelai smiled. She looked at Luke. "We might even get to hold her in a few days." She said.

Luke smiled and kissed her. "That's amazing."

Rory smiled at them.
