Chapter 14
A few weeks had passed and Beth had improved greatly. They were able to take her home. Rory had had to go back to Yale though but she was visiting the upcoming weekend.
Lorelai and Luke walked through the door. "Ah it's good to be home." She smiled.
"It sure is." Luke said carrying Beth in his arms. "Look Beth, this is your home." He smiled down at her.
Lorelai looked at them and smiled. She never had any doubt about Luke becoming a father. He had practically been a father to Rory and he was brilliant at it. "I think I may go have a quick nap." Lorelai said. "Is that ok?"
"Of course. Take as much time as you want." Luke smiled and kissed her and watched her go up.
The phone started ringing so Luke answered. "Hello?"
"Hey Luke!" Rory said happily.
"Hey Rory! How's Yale?" Luke smiled.
"Yeh good thanks! How's Beth? Is she there now?"
"Yep she's here and she's perfect." Luke said smiling down at Beth.
"Aww I can't wait to come and see her again." Rory said. "Is mom there?"
"She's gone up to have a quick nap."
"Ah ok don't worry then. It can wait." Rory said.
"Anything you can talk to me about?"
"No it's fine." Rory said.
"You sure?" Luke asked concerned.
Rory smiled at the concern in Luke's voice. "Honest, I'm fine. I'll see you at the weekend."
"Ok see you then!"
"Bye Luke!"
"Bye Rory!"
Luke put the phone down and sat down with Beth. She was perfect. A year ago, he had been too afraid to act on his feelings but he had known from the first day that he'd met Lorelai and Rory that he loved them. And now he had the perfect family.
Lorelai emerged about an hour and a half later. "Hey how's she been?" She smiled.
"No trouble at all. Been sleeping most of the time." Luke smiled and gave her a quick kiss. "Good nap?"
"Perfect!"
"Oh Rory rang by the way."
"Oh everything ok?"
"Yeh. She wanted to talk to you about something though. But she said it could wait til the weekend." Luke said.
"Oh ok." Lorelai said, intrigued. She sat down for a few minutes before getting up and getting the phone.
Luke chuckled. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist."
"It's not a crime to ring my daughter." Lorelai smirked. "Rory hey!" She said on the phone.
"Oh hey mom! Good sleep?"
"Lovely thanks! Luke said you wanted to talk to me about something."
"Oh yeh. It's two things really. I've kind of got a boyfriend." Rory said.
"Oh yeh?" Lorelai teased. "Spill."
"Well he's called Logan. I met him doing the paper. It's early days yet though." She said.
"And you like him?"
"Yeh."
"And he treats you well?"
"Yeh he's lovely."
"Well then good for you kid. I'm happy for you."
"Thanks mom."
"What's the second thing?"
"Is Luke with you?"
"Yeh?"
"Well it's sort of about him. Could you go into another room?"
Lorelai went into the kitchen. "Have done. What's up?"
"Well...um..." Rory said. "I was sort of wondering if maybe I could call him dad." She said shyly.
"Aww hon, I'm sure he'd love that." Lorelai said touched, feeling a single tear in her eye.
"I just don't want it to be weird...I mean it's not like dad's not around." Rory said. "But I've always seen Luke as my dad..."
"I know sweets, why don't you talk to him about it at the weekend?"
"Ok.." Rory said, slightly nervous.
"Anyway, better go! Can't wait to see you!"
"Ok bye mom! Love you."
"Love you too kid."
Lorelai hung up the phone and sat for a bit. She then went back into the other room.
"Everything ok?" Luke asked.
"Yeh everything's fine. Rory's got a boyfriend."
"Really? Well he better treat her right or he'll have me to deal with." Luke said.
Lorelai just smiled. Rory was right. Luke was definitely a dad to her.
