Chapter 15

Rory let herself in on Friday evening. "I'm home!" She called.

"In here!" Luke called.

Rory walked to the living room. "Hey Luke!" She smiled.

"Your mom's just gone out to get some food." Luke said.

"Sorry what?" Rory teased.

Luke chuckled. "She did go see Sookie as well."

"That explains it then!" Rory laughed. She then looked at Beth in Luke's arms. "How's my baby sister doing?"

"Very well. She's feeding and sleeping well." Luke smiled.

Rory smiled. "That's good. Can I hold her?" She asked.

"Of course." Luke handed Beth over.

Rory sat down with her. "Hey sis, remember me?" Rory said softly. "I'm your big sister." She smiled and kissed her forehead. Luke smiled at this. "Coffee?" He asked.

"Yes please! Oh and I haven't really eaten much either..." She said.

Luke smirked at her subtle hint. "I'll make some pancakes."

"Thanks Luke!" Rory grinned.

They then heard the front door open. "I'm back! Sorry I was a long time!" Lorelai said rushing in.

"Hey mom!" Rory smiled.

"Oh hey kid! Thought you were coming later?"

"Yeh I was but I got out early."

"Ah great! Well I brought food."

"Luke's making pancakes."

"What?" Lorelai exclaimed. "You send me out for food and then you're cooking? Evil man!" She shouted, teasing.

"She was hungry!" Luke shouted back.

"Huh he makes pancakes for you but for me he doesn't." Lorelai huffed.

Rory grinned. "Hey mom."

"Yeh?"

"You look happy."

Lorelai smiled. "Couldn't be happier."

Rory smiled.

Later that evening, they were sat watching tv. Beth was asleep upstairs. Rory was in the armchair and Lorelai and Luke was curled up on the sofa. She smiled, watching them.

"Mom, Luke?"

They looked over at her. "What's up kid?" Lorelai asked.

"I was just wondering if I could talk to you about something?" Rory asked nervously.

"Is this what you said on the phone?" Lorelai questioned.

"Yeh but there's a bit more..." Rory said.

"Shoot.." Lorelai smiled.

"Well I know I've changed my name and everything but I was wondering if I could make it a bit more official."

"How do you mean?" Lorelai asked.

"I was um...wondering...um if Luke could maybe adopt me..." Rory said, her eyes focused on the floor.

Both were shocked. Luke was terribly touched.

"But what about your dad?" Luke said gently.

"I don't care about him. I want to feel like I belong. I mean I do feel like I belong but I just want it to be official. Luke's pretty much been my dad since we moved here anyway..." Rory said.

"Well, um.." Luke said hesitantly, looking at Lorelai. "I'd be honoured to adopt you if you're 100% sure this is what you both want."

"She's pretty much your daughter already. Makes sense." Lorelai smiled.

"Ok then..." Luke said.

Rory smiled and went over to hug him.

"Wasn't there something else?" Lorelai pushed.

"Um no...it's fine.." Rory said blushing. It was weird. She felt incredibly close to Luke and comfortable around him but talking about these sort of things made her a bit nervous.

"Ok kid, maybe another time."

Rory nodded gratefully at her mom.

Suddenly the doorbell rang. Rory answered it. "Grandma?" She said coldly.

"I would like to see my granddaughter." She said bluntly.

"I don't think that's a good idea, grandma." Rory said.

"Nonsense!" Emily said, going to the living room.

Lorelai looked round. "Mom, get out!"

"No I want to see my granddaughter. You've let your dad see her."

"Yes because he hasn't been in touch with my ex and he actually likes Luke." She said angrily.

Luke placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Mrs Gilmore, Beth is sleeping." He said.

"I'll wait then." She said. "Oh Rory, your dad gave me a letter to give to you." She said handing over an envelope.

Rory took it and immediately tore it up. "Luke's my dad." She said firmly.

"Rory! You need to have a relationship with your dad. I'm sure you can work it out."

Rory couldn't believe it. "I'm pretty sure we can't." She said hotly.

"Rory I know you're loyal to Luke, for whatever reason that is..." She started glaring at Luke. "But Christopher is your dad and you should make up with him. Don't you want a proper family?"

"I've got a proper family right here." Rory said angrily going over to Luke and Lorelai.

"For goodness sake Rory! This is not a family!" Emily fumed.

"Why? Because Luke's not biologically related to me?"

"No because he's not right for you and Lorelai." She said.

"Get out grandma." Rory said angrily.

"Excuse me?"

"Get out!" She shouted.

Luke placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's ok.." He said softly.

"No it's not! How can he believe him?" Rory said upset.

"Mom I think you should leave." Lorelai said sternly.

"Fine. But I'm not giving up." Emily fumed and left.

Just then, Rory's cellphone rang. Rory was shaking but she answered it. "Oh hey Logan.." She said a bit calmer.

"Hey Ace!" Logan said. "Everything ok?"

"Yeh just some drama with my grandma that's all." She said. She smiled at her mom and Luke and then went to her room.

Luke looked at Lorelai. "You ok?" He asked gently.

She nodded. "I don't know why I'm surprised to be honest. My mom has never wanted me to be happy."

Luke kissed her. "Just ignore her. Christopher hasn't been in contact so maybe he's got the message." He said.

Lorelai nodded. "I hope so. Not for our sakes but for Rory's."

Luke nodded.

Meanwhile, Emily had met up with Christopher. "You're right. He's totally controlled them. Rory's totally brainwashed." She said.

"Emily..."

"No Christopher, it is not right. You should be with them, not that diner guy."

"Were they happy Emily?" Christopher asked quietly.

"No of course not! I can tell."

"Emily, Lorelai married Luke. She must have been pretty serious. One thing, I know for sure is that Rory's her first priority. She wouldn't do anythign unless she was totally comfortable with it." He said.

"Have you hit your head or something?" Emily fumed.

"No. I think I'm just seeing sense. I snuck into that hospital when Lorelai was in labour. They looked happy. They looked like they belong." He said.

"Well I'm not giving up. That diner guy isn't right for them and I'm going to stop it." Emily said angrily.

Oooooooh! Like the twist? Has Christopher really come to his senses? If so, can Rory forgive him? And what does Emily have up her sleeve? Let me know what you think! :)
