Chapter 19

Rory had come home for the weekend. She still hadn't told her mom and Luke about her dad's visit. Luke and Beth were sleeping upstairs. It had been a rough night so Lorelai told Luke to go sleep when he could. Lorelai and Rory were watching tv when there was banging on the door.

Lorelai opened it and Emily burst it. "Ok I've had enough. You, Rory and Beth are coming to leave with me." She said firmly.

"Ummm...no we're not mom." Lorelai said angrily.

"Why do you have to be so frustrating? You have constantly done this. You never listen to me when I only have your best interests at heart. You don't care if you've been a total disgrace and embarrassment to us." She said angrily.

"Hey!" Rory butted in. "You can't talk to her like that! She's the best mom I could have asked for! She is not a disgrace. She is amazing and I hope one day I will grow up and be like her." She said angrily.

"Huh! Sometimes I wish you hadn't even met Christopher, Lorelai, because then you wouldn't have gotten pregnant and ruined your life and ran into the arms of that diner guy." Emily said.

There was stunned silence. Rory felt tears coming. Noone spoke until they heard a voice on the stairs. "Get out of our house!" Luke said angrily from the stairs. Luke had never really stood up to Emily before but she had gone too far.

"Excuse me? You can't tell me what to do."

"I can and I just have." Luke said angrily walking over to Lorelai and Rory and putting a comforting hand on each of their shoulders.

"You don't have the right!" Emily fumed.

"The right? You don't have the right to come into our house and attack my wife and Rory like you have! If it was up to me, you would never see our kids again!" Luke said angrily.

"Your kids? Rory's your kid now then?"

"In my eyes, yes." Luke said.

"Huh! She will never be your kid."

"Get out now or I really won't be responsible for my actions!" Luke warned.

"Is that a threat?" Emily fumed.

"See it whatever way you want. i don't want to have to ask you again so get out!" Luke warned.

Emily obviously got what she want so she left.

Rory was still frozen to one spot.

"Oh hon..." Lorelai said softly to her. "Don't listen to her. You didn't ruin my life."

"I know..." Rory said quietly, slowly sitting down. She looked up at Luke. "Thanks.." She said.

Luke just nodded and rubbed her arm. "Are you ok?"

"I...I think so. I don't know." Rory said.

"Rory, she didn't mean it. One thing I know for sure about your grandmother is that she loves you so much." Lorelai said softly.

Rory just nodded. "Are you ok?" She asked looking at her mom. "She said some horrible things."

"I'm used to it." Lorelai said.

"Mom?"

"Yes hon?"

"I need to tell you both something." Rory said quietly. Both Luke and Lorelai sat down.

"Dad came to see me last Tuesday..." She said quietly.

"What?" Lorelai said shocked.

"I didn't want to let him in but he wouldn't take no for an answer. He said he wanted 5 minutes and then he would go so I let him in..."

"And?" Lorelai said softly.

"He apologised for everything. He admitted to everything to. The lies in court, the accident..." Rory said. "Although he still says it was an accident and he panicked..." She said glancing at Luke. "He said he wanted to start again with me and gave me his number...I don't know what to do though..." Rory said quietly.

"Oh hon..." Lorelai said hugging her daughter.

"He did seem sincere but he caused so much damage..." She said glancing at Luke.

"Rory, don't worry about me. If you would like to get to know your dad again, I'm not stopping you." He said gently reaching forward on his seat and giving her hand a squeeze.

"I honestly don't know what to do. I don't know if I can forgive him just like that..."

Lorelai took a deep breath. "Hon, you shouldn't let us stop you. Just take time and think about it. We'll support you 100%." She said softly.

Rory just nodded and hugged her mom. "I'm going to go do some studying." She said.

"Ok kid." Lorelai smiled.

Rory got up and looked at Luke. She gave him a hug too. "Thanks for calling me one of your kids." She said quietly and then went to her room.

Lorelai sighed. "I worry about the effect this is having on her." She said sadly to Luke.

"She's an exceptional kid. She'll be fine." Luke reassured her.

"You really wouldn't mind if she was back in touch with Chris?" Lorelai asked.

"Would you?" Luke said.

"Ok point taken." Lorelai said.

Luke sighed. "But he is her dad and nothing's going to change that."

Lorelai nodded. "Thanks for standing up to my mom." She said and kissed him.

"You're welcome."

"I love you."

"I love you too."
