Chapter 21

Jess arrived the next morning to the diner. Luke was already in the diner. He had a bag of food ready. "Jess!" He said looking up.

"Hi Uncle Luke!" Jess said. "You ok?"

"Not really. Could you do me a favour?" Luke said.

"Yeh what?"

"Could you take this over to their house? They never have any food in and they always come here for breakfast or I cook..." He said looking sad at the last bit.

"Um yeh sure..." Jess said. "Anything you want me to say to them?"

"I've left a note in there but just say I love them all and I will sort the mess out." Luke said.

Jess just nodded and headed out.

Back at the house, Lorelai woke up on the sofa next to Rory. "Morning.." She said.

"Morning mom.." Rory said. "How you feeling?"

"Woke up feeling ok then I remembered..." Lorelai said.

Rory nodded and hugged her mom. "It'll be ok." She said.

The doorbell then rang. Rory went to answer it and was shocked. "Jess?" She said.

Lorelai looked up as Jess walked in.

"Um hi..." Jess said. "I hope it's not too weird but Uncle Luke called me and explained everything." He said.

"No it's not. Thanks for coming for Luke." Rory said, glancing at her mom.

"Yeh thanks Jess." She smiled.

"This is from Luke." Jess said handing the bag over to Lorelai. "He asked me to bring it over for you as you never have any food."

Lorelai smiled sadly. "Even when he's not with us, he's looking after us..." She said quietly.

"I think he left a note inside." Jess said. "Um...he told me to say...um...he loved you all and that he would sort everything out..." He then said looking at the floor.

Lorelai found the note and opened it.

Dear My Gilmore Girls,

I can't believe I miss you only after one night but I do. I love you all so much and I promise we will be a proper family soon. And when we are, it will be perfect. I will sort everything out, I promise. In the meantime, keep strong and I will keep sending Jess with food and coffee.

Luke xxx

Lorelai was tearing up and showed it to Rory. Rory smiled sadly. "Do you want me to send him one back?" She asked gently.

Lorelai nodded. "Just say we miss him and love him lots. Nothing's changed. I will always love him."

Rory nodded and got some paper and wrote:

Dear Luke,

Rory here. We just want to say we miss you lots and love you lots. Mom says that nothing's changed. She will always love you and she will wait as long as it takes to get this restraining order lifted.

When mom called me and told me what happened, I couldn't believe it. I just want you to know you will never stop being important to me. See you soon.

Love you crazy Gilmore Girls xxx

Rory then folded it up and gave it to Jess.

"I just wanted to say that I think it sucks what has happened. You should all be together." Jess said.

Rory smiled and hugged him. "Thanks." She said quietly. "Take care of Luke."

Jess nodded and then left.

Rory hugged her mom. "You ok?"

Lorelai took a deep breath. "I should feed Beth." She said going upstairs.

Rory sighed and got out her phone. She tried ringing Logan but got no answer. She sighed again. Why wasn't he returning her calls?

Jess got back to the diner. "Here. Rory wrote it." He said handing the note to Luke.

Luke opened it and smiled. Rory really did have a way with words. "Right I'm going to sort this." He said. "Can you open up the diner? I won't be long." Luke said.

"Um yeh sure..." Jess said.

Luke drove to where he knew Richard was staying. He knocked on the door. "Luke?" He said surprised. He then got worried. "Has something happened?"

"You could say that. Your wife has taken a restraining order out on me which means I can't be near my family." Luke said holding in his anger.

Richard was stunned. "Luke...I'm so sorry..."

"Do you know where Christopher lives?"

"What?" Richard asked shocked.

"Look I don't want to cause trouble. I just want to talk to him." Luke said. "Please. This could help."

Richard nodded and gave him the address. Luke thanked him and left. He got to the house and knocked on the door.

Christopher opened it and was shocked to see Luke. "Luke?"

Luke let himself in. "Right I don't want to cause trouble ok?"

"Um ok..."

"Do you love Rory?" Luke asked.

Chris was shocked by the sudden question. "Of course I do."

"Then you need to help us. If you really love her, you will help us."

"Why? What's happened?"

"Emily's taken a restraining order out on me so I can't see any of them. You need to go see her and talk sense into her. She thinks you're god's gift so she might actually listen to you." Luke said trying to stay calm.

"Um..." Chris didn't know what to say.

"Rory told us you went to see her. She said you apologized for everything and she said she thought you were being sincere. Please, do something right for your daughter for once." Luke said. "I don't care if you hate me but I'm married now to Lorelai and we had a baby girl now called Beth. She needs her dad." He continued. "I just really miss them all." Luke finished, taking a deep breath.

Chris looked at him. "You really care for them, don't you?" He finally said.

"I love them." Luke said. "I would do anything for them. I would never let anything happen to any of them."

Chris could see the sincerity in Luke's face. "Ok. I will go see her. But I don't know if she will listen to me."

Luke gave a deep breath. "Thank you." He said. "I'll go now. Just please do it today. We're all in bits." He said.

"Luke?" Chris said as Luke reached the door.

Luke turned round to face him. "Yeh?"

"Thank you." He said.

Luke looked confused.

"Thank you for looking after them since they've lived in Stars Hollow. And I really am sorry. I was angry and jealous and I was stupid." He said.

Luke just nodded. "I'll see you then." He then left and got back in his truck and drove back to the diner.
