Chapter 23
Rory came home on Friday for the weekend. Luke was in with Beth. "Hello?" She called.
Luke stood up. "Hey Rory!" He said.
"Luke!" Rory smiled and gave him a hug. "It's nice to see you back." She said.
"It's good to be back here." He smiled.
"Is mom in? I need to talk to her about something." She said.
It was only then that Luke realized her eyes were red. "She's just popped to the inn. Is everything ok?" He asked concerned.
Rory just smiled and sat down on the sofa. "Yeh everything's fine. It can wait.." She said quietly.
Luke sat down in the armchair. "You know you can talk to me if you like? I know I'm not your mom but..."
"I know. Thanks but I'd feel better talking to my mom about this." She said shyly looking at the floor.
"Oh. Ok." Luke said.
"Sorry..."
"No, you don't have to be sorry." He smiled and turned on the tv.
Rory sat there for a bit and glanced a look at Luke watching the tv. "Logan and I have broken up." She said quietly.
Luke turned to look at her. "Oh I'm sorry. Are you ok?" He asked gently.
Rory nodded trying not to let tears fall. She always felt embarrassed crying infront of Luke.
Luke sighed. "That seemed to be going well. Is that why you came back early today?" He asked.
Rory just nodded. "He...he cheated on me..." She said quietly, not being to stop tears falling.
"Oh Rory..." He said softly moving over to the sofa. "I'm sorry..."
Rory just nodded. Luke put his arm round her. "He's an idiot." He said.
Rory started crying. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't be laying all this on you." She sniffed.
"It's ok." Luke said with his arm still round her rubbing her arm gently.
Rory buried her head in Luke's shoulder and cried. "I thought he was the one." She said quietly. "I feel like such an idiot!"
Luke comforted her. "You're not an idiot. He's the idiot. Rory, you're an amazing girl and you deserve better than him."
Rory sniffed and sat back up. She wiped her eyes. "Thanks..." She said quietly.
Luke smiled. "It'll be ok." He reassured her.
Rory nodded. They watched tv for a bit in silence.
"I got a phone call from dad yesterday..." Rory said.
Luke looked at her. "Oh?"
"He wanted me to go visit him..." Rory said nervously.
"And are you?" Luke asked.
"I don't know. I feel like I want to go but I feel so guilty." She said.
"Guilty? Why do you feel guilty?"
"Because what he did to you and mom. And he's done so little for me and you've done so much..." Rory said quietly.
Luke sighed and gave a quick smile. "Rory he's your dad. If you want to visit him, you visit him." He said softly.
"Really?"
"Yes. You have nothing to feel guilty for." Luke gave her a warm smile.
Rory returned the smile. "Thanks."
Luke smiled and turned back to the tv.
"Luke?"
"Yeh?"
"I don't blame you for him handing himself in." Rory said.
Luke smiled and reached across and gave her hand a squeeze.
Lorelai then came bursting through the door. "Honey I'm home!" She said in a cheerful voice. "Oh hey kid!" She smiled when she saw Rory. "I thought you weren't coming til later?"
"I changed my mind! My class ended early so left straight after." Rory said getting up and hugging her mom. "It's good to see you happy again." She smiled.
Lorelai smiled. "Well everything's right in the world again!"
Rory smiled and looked at Luke. "Yeh it is..."
Luke smiled back and got up. He gave Lorelai a kiss and headed for the door. "I'm just going to head to the diner for a bit I won't be long."
"Ok see you later!" Lorelai smiled.
"So how are you kid?" Lorelai smiled at Rory.
"I'm ok..."
"Ok? What's up?"
"Logan and I broke up. He cheated on me. I found out this week." Rory said.
"Oh hon, I'm so sorry!" Lorelai said hugging her. "Are you ok?"
Rory nodded. "Yeh Luke made me realise I deserve better than him." She smiled.
"Luke?"
"Yeh he could see I was upset so I told him.." Rory said.
Lorelai smiled. "Well he's right. You'll find someone better."
Rory nodded. "Also, I was talking to Luke about..."
"I'm out of the house for a bit and you tell Luke all your secrets!" She joked.
Rory chuckled. "Mom, dad rang me. He wants me to visit."
"Oh..."
"I sort of want to go...But only if it's ok with you?"
Lorelai sighed. "Of course it is. He's your dad, kid. You don't need permission." She smiled.
Rory hugged her. "Thanks."
Lorelai smiled and they sat down and watch tv for a bit.
"Soooooo...any gossip?" Rory smiled.
"Weeelllll...Kirk's taken up tai chi." Lorelai laughed.
"Yeh I was wondering what he was doing!" Rory smirked.
Rory continued to watch her mom tell her about all the gossip she'd missed since the last time she was here and she smiled at how much happier and healthier she looked. And she knew that was all because of Luke. She wished that she would find a Luke of her own one day.
