Chapter 26
It was Friday night and they agreed to have Friday night dinner at their house. Lorelai had invited her dad and Luke had gone out to pick up April.
Lorelai was in feeding Beth when the front door opened. "Mom?"
"Hey Rory! In here!" Lorelai called.
Rory appeared into the living room and smiled. "Hey mom!" She said hugging her. "Hey little sis!" Rory smiled and kissed Beth on the forehead. "She's grown so much!" She said.
"Yeh I know. They grow up fast!" Lorelai smiled.
Rory smiled. "So when's everyone getting here?"
"Well Luke should be back with April any minute now and I told your grandpa to get here for 7."
"Sounds good!" Rory smiled. "I'll just go unpack my bag." She said going to her room.
As on cue, Luke arrived with April. "We're back!" He called.
"Hey!" Lorelai called standing up.
April ran in and hugged Lorelai. "Lorelai!" She smiled.
"Hey April! How was your trip?"
"Good thanks! Can I just say how happy I am you married my dad? I was gutted to miss your wedding but my mom wouldn't let me come.." April said sadly.
"Aw it's ok sweetie. You're here now." Lorelai smiled at her. Luke smiled too.
Rory then walked out of her room to the living room. "Thought I heard voices!" She grinned. "Hey Luke!" She smiled giving him a hug.
"Rory hey!" Luke smiled.
"Hi April!" Rory smiled. "It's good to see you again."
"You too!" April smiled.
"Well I think you're sharing my room this weekend if that's ok?" Rory smiled. "I can help you unpack."
"Yeh I can't wait!" April smiled and followed Rory. Lorelai and Luke smiled at them walking away.
"I think they're going to get along." Lorelai smiled at Luke.
"Yep I think you might be right." Luke smiled. "So how's my baby girl?" He then smiled taking Beth and rocking her gently.
"She's good. Been missing her daddy." Lorelai smiled.
"Yeh well I've missed her too." Luke smiled down at her.
At 7, the doorbell went. Lorelai answered it. "Hey dad!" She smiled inviting him in.
"Hi Lorelai. It was nice for you to invite me." He smiled. They went into the living room.
Luke stood up and shook his hand. "Richard, it's good to see you." He smiled.
"You too Luke." Richard smiled.
"Grandpa!" Rory smiled coming out of her room with April and giving him a hug.
"Rory! It's good to see you! How's Yale?"
"It's going well thanks." Rory smiled.
Luke went round to stand next to April. "Richard, this is my daughter April." He smiled.
"Well it's very nice to meet you finally April." Richard smiled at her.
"You too." She smiled somewhat shyly.
"I hear you're quite a smart kid. You're going to follow in Rory's footprints I see." He smiled kindly.
"I hope too." She smiled.
"And how's my other granddaughter?" Richard smiled over at Beth who was in her crib. He picked her up and rocked her gently. The love for her on his face was evident.
Soon they all sat down to eat. Suddenly the doorbell rang though.
"I'll get it." Rory said getting up and answering the door. She was shocked. "Logan? What are you doing here?"
"You weren't answering any of my calls or messages. I figured you'd be here."
"Yeh well maybe I wasn't answering them for a reason. Now please just leave. We're having a family dinner." Rory said coldly.
"Please Rory! I'm sorry. I thought we were on a break!" Logan pleaded.
"We had an argument, Logan. That doesn't mean we'd broken up!" Rory said. "Now please just go. I don't want to talk about this now." She said.
Logan ignored her though and walked past her into the living room.
"Please Logan! Now isn't a good time!" Rory said getting upset.
"I'm not leaving until you say you forgive me. Please Rory, I love you." Logan said.
"Mom! Luke!" Rory called. "Logan please, just go." She said.
Lorelai and Luke appeared. "What's going on?" Lorelai said as they went into the living room. "Oh..." She said spotting Logan.
"Please Rory. I love you. It was a stupid mistake." Logan pleaded.
"Please just go! I don't want to talk about this now!" Rory said getting upset.
Luke could see this. "I think you should leave." He said, trying to hold in his anger.
"Just promise me you'll talk to me." Logan said.
"Fine! But not now! Please go!" Rory said.
Logan sighed but left.
Rory took a deep breath.
"You ok hon?" Lorelai said softly.
Rory nodded. "Yeh." She then looked at Luke. "Thanks for getting him to go."
"It's ok. You know, you can sit out on the meal if you want?" He said concerned.
Rory shook her head. "No it's fine. Honestly." She said giving them a smile. She headed back to the kitchen.
"Who was that?" Richard asked.
"Oh noone." Rory said sitting back down.
Lorelai and Luke sat back down too and they all finished their dinner.
They then went into the living room for a bit.
"I don't know if it's the best time to bring this up but I spoke to Emily." Richard said.
"Yeh?"
"She's still deluded. She still believes something will happen between you and well you know..." He said.
"That doesn't surprise me." Lorelai said. "I don't care anymore to be honest. She can think whatever she wants and do whatever she wants. She's not going to split up this family." She said smiling at Luke. Luke smiled back.
"Hey April, why don't you come look at some of my books with me? I think there are some you might like." Rory said, sensing the adults might need to talk.
"Ok!" April smiled following Rory.
"So do you think she will pull any more stunts?" Lorelai asked her dad.
"I don't know what goes on in her mind anymore so I don't know. I told her to leave you all be but you know your mother..."
"Yep I know my mother." Lorelai sighed.
Luke reached over and squeezed Lorelai's hand. "We'll be fine. I'm never leaving again." He said.
Lorelai smiled back at him.
"Well I better get going, it's getting late. Thank you for a lovely evening." He smiled.
He said his goodbyes to everyone and then left.
Luke and Lorelai snuggled up on the sofa, Lorelai with her head resting on Luke's shoulder and him with his arm round her. They enjoyed the rest of the evening.
Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think! :)
