Chapter 27
The next morning, Rory and April were playing a game of Operation on the table in the living room. Luke came down but stopped on the stairs when he heard them.
"Oh I suck at this!" Rory laughed, letting yet another buzzer off in the game.
April laughed. "Well you haven't played it before. I was rubbish when I played it the first time."
"So how do you like New Mexico?" Rory asked. "Have you moved yet?"
"Yeh, it's ok I guess. But I do miss dad." April said. "I mean I just found out about him and then my mom stops me seeing him. It's sucks."
"Yeh it must have been hard." Rory sympathised.
"How long have you known my dad?" April asked.
"Since the day we moved here." Rory said. "His diner is like me and my mom's heaven." Rory joked.
April laughed. "So did you become friends straight away?"
"Yeh I guess so. My mom and him hit it off pretty much straight and he was always so lovely to me. He sort of became a father figure for me." Rory admitted.
Luke smiled to himself while stood on the stairs out of sight.
"So what happened to your dad then?" April asked.
"Oh it's complicated..." Rory said uncomfortably.
Luke saw this as a signal to come down. "Morning you two! Having fun?" He smiled.
"Hey Luke!" Rory smiled.
"Morning dad! We're playing Operation!" April grinned.
"I can see that." Luke smiled. He then went into the kitchen to start making breakfast.
Rory went and helped him. "Sorry did we wake you?" She asked.
"Oh no, not at all." Luke smiled. "Sorry if she's making you play loads of games with her."
"Oh no, it's fine. I'm having fun. She's great." Rory smiled.
Luke smiled back. They then heard a voice coming for the stairs. "Coffee..." It called.
"I'm guessing mom's up!" Rory grinned and went back to the living room. "Hey mom!"
"Morning kid! Is Luke making coffee?"
"Yeh he's in the kitchen!" Rory laughed. She let her mom go to the kitchen and sat back down with April.
Later that day, they all decided to go out for the day as a family. They went ice-skating as there was till snow left. Luke sat with Beth while Lorelai, Rory and April all skated. He smiled while watching them. They definitely looked and felt like a family now. Lorelai then skated over to Luke with Rory and April. "Your turn Luke!" Lorelai grinned.
"Oh no, I don't skate!" Luke said.
"Come on! You can't come here and not skate."
"Yeh come on Luke!" Rory grinned.
"Please dad!" April said.
Luke sighed. "Fine!" He said and got his skates on. Lorelai watched them with Beth on her lap. Luke and April were holding hands while skating and Rory was skating beside them. It was then that Rory spotted Logan standing at the side of the ice rink.
"I'll be right back." She told Luke and skated over to him. Luke watched them.
"Are you stalking me or something?" Rory demanded.
"Sorry, I saw you all go out with your skates."
"So you were!" Rory said.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to talk." He said.
Rory sighed. "Fine but not now. This is the first time we've had a proper family day out. I'll call you this evening. Just go back to Yale. I'm going back tomorrow anyway." She said.
"Promise you'll call.?"
"Promise! Now go before Luke decides to come and beat you up." Rory said with a slight smirk.
Logan smirked and nodded and then left. Rory skated back to Luke and April.
"Everything ok?" He asked.
"Yeh it's good." Rory smiled at him.
They all had a lovely time and were really tired when they got back. Rory went to her room and called Logan.
"Ace!" He answered.
"Don't call me that." Rory said.
"So you called..."
"I said I would."
"How was the ice skating?"
"It was fun."
"Look Rory, I am really sorry." He said with a sigh. "I honestly thought we were on a break. If I knew we weren't, I would never have done it." He said sincerely.
"Logan, we had an argument. Neither of us said we were over." Rory said.
"I know. I've been an idiot. I know that." He said.
"Too right you have!" Rory said.
"Please forgive me." He said.
Rory sighed. "I just don't know. I love you. You know I do but I don't know if I can trust you anymore." She said sadly.
"You can." He said.
Rory sighed again. "How about we meet up tomorrow for a coffee or something when I'm back in Yale?"
"You sure?"
"Yeh we can talk more then."
"Ok."
"Bye then."
"Bye!"
Rory went back into the living room. "Was that Logan? I saw him at the ice rink." Lorelai said looking at her daughter.
"Yeh it was him. I'm meeting up with him tomorrow to talk." She said.
Lorelai just nodded.
"What?" Rory said.
"Just be careful, that's all I'm saying. He hurt you, kid."
"I know. We're just going to talk. I've not said I've forgiven him." Rory said.
"Good." Lorelai smiled.
They then all sat down and watched a movie together as a family.
Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think! :)
