Chapter 30

Beth's first birthday was coming up and Luke and Lorelai wanted to make a fuss. Rory was going to come home for it and Lorelai had invited her dad over. Sookie, Jackson and Lane were also invited.

Rory arrived back on the friday evening, the day before Beth's birthday. "Hey mom!" She called.

"Hey kid! How's Yale going?" Lorelai smiled hugging her.

"Good! Lots of work with the paper though!" Rory said.

They went into the living room where Luke was sitting and Beth was crawling around. "Hey Luke!" Rory smiled.

"Hi Rory!" Luke smiled.

Rory then crouched down on the floor. "Hi Beth!" She smiled giving her a kiss. "I can't believe she's nearly 1 already..." Rory said.

"I know! Time goes fast with kids." Lorelai smiled.

"Yeh..." Rory said. "Well I'm just going to unpack and call Lane." She said disappearing to her room.

Lorelai smiled watching her walk off and then sat down next to Luke.

"So tomorrow..." She said.

"Yeh?"

"Everyone's arriving around lunch time. Sookie's made a cake." Lorelai said.

"Sounds good." Luke smiled. "Is your dad coming?"

"Yeh he phoned the other day to said he was."

"That's good." He smiled. "And...your mom?" He said cautiously.

"Knows nothing about it. I doubt she even remembers what day Beth was born even though she was here." Lorelai sighed.

"You haven't heard from her since the incident?"

"Nope. Neither has Rory, I don't think." Lorelai said.

Luke nodded.

Soon it was Saturday and the guests started arriving around 12ish.

"Lane!" Rory grinned when she saw her best friend entering the house. She ran and hugged her. "I've missed you."

"You two! How's Yale?" Lane smiled.

"Great! How's Zach?"

"Yeh he's good. The band's great." Lane smiled.

"That's great." Rory smiled.

"Hey Lorelai, Luke!" Lane smiled at them both. She then spotted Beth. "Aww she's grown up so much!" Lane smiled at her.

"She really has..." Rory sighed to herself.

"So how's Logan?" Lane asked Rory.

"Umm...he's ok I think. Haven't really been talking much." Rory said quietly.

"You two broken up?"

"Yeh. I said I couldn't trust him and he got all mad and flew off to Las Vegas with Finn and Colin."

"I'm sorry." Lane said.

"Don't be." Rory said. "This is a happy day. Let's not talk about him."

All the guests soon arrived and they all had a fun afternoon full of games and food. They left about 6ish. Rory watched her mom and Luke proudly play and fuss over Beth and she smiled. She was so pleased they were happy but she couldn't help feel that she was missing everything. She only managed to get a couple weekends off to see them and the Friday night dinners. She was brought to reality when she heard her phone ringing. She took it and went to her room to answer it.

She soon came into the living room, her eyes red. "Mom..." She said quietly.

Lorelai turned round. "Rory? What's wrong?"

"That was the hospital. Logan was in an accident..." She said quietly.

"What? When?"

"Apparently his parachute didn't work properly and he landed badly. They flew him back to the hospital here."

"Oh my god..."

"I know I'm not with him anymore but I have to see him mom. I need to make sure he's ok." Rory said quietly.

"Of course sweetie, do you want us to come with you?"

"No, you enjoy the rest of Beth's birthday. I'll call you with any news." Rory said and left.

"Wow. Poor Rory..." Luke said.

Lorelai nodded. "I can tell she still loves him..."

Luke sighed. "Yeh it's pretty obvious..."
