Chapter 32

A few more days passed and Logan was recovering at home. Him and Rory were getting back on track. However, this particular day Rory was going to have a day out with her mom and she was really looking forward to it.

Rory met her back at home as they were going to go to a restaurant local to Stars Hollow. She let herself in. "Mom?"

"In here!" Lorelai called.

Rory went to the living room and saw her mom packing a bag for Beth. "Luke at the diner?" She asked.

"Yeh. I'm going to drop Beth off at my dad's. He's promised to watch her." Lorelai smiled.

Rory smiled. "Aw that's nice."

An hour later, they had dropped Beth off and had arrived at Sniffy's. "This is where Luke brought me on our first date." She said.

"Nice place." Rory smiled. They sat down at the table and ordered.

"Soooo..."

"Soooo..." Rory said.

"How are you doing? How's Logan?"

"Yeh Logan's doing ok. He's taking it easy and I'm good."

"You two back together?" Lorelai asked carefully.

"We're getting there." Rory admitted. "He knows it will take a while to get back to how we were."

Lorelai nodded. "Well Luke said he'd beat him up if he hurt you again..." She teased.

Rory gave a slight chuckle. "Good old Luke..."

"So have you...um...visited your dad again?"

"Um yeh...a few times..." Rory said looking down at the table. "I wasn't sure if you'd want to know. I know you want him out of your life..."

"Oh hon...you don't have to feel like you can't tell me things. Especially about this. He's your dad. Nothing will change that." Lorelai said softly.

Rory smiled and nodded. "Thanks mom. It just feels like..." She hesitated.

"Feels like what?"

"Like I'm sort of betraying Luke but I guess he has Beth now and April..."

"Hon, Luke will always love you and treat you as one of his own. You know that..."

"I know. It's just I see how he is with Beth and I just kind of wish I was her. Like when I was that age, I could have had someone like Luke there for me along with you..." Rory admitted.

Lorelai sighed. "I know. Don't ever feel like you're being replaced because you will never be replaced. Just because you're not home as much, you're still very much part of this family. You were my first, Rory, and you will always be special to me."

Rory smiled. "I know. I've never doubted that. It's just weird adapting to everything. I guess that's what college does to people!" She joked.

Lorelai chuckled. "Yeh."

They had a lovely meal and were just paying when Rory's phone went off. Rory looked at the caller id. "It's grandma..." She said quietly.

"What?" Lorelai said shocked. "When did you last hear from her?"

"Not since she locked me in the poolhouse...That was months ago..." Rory said. She decided to answer it.

"Grandma?" She said coldly.

"Rory? Is that you?" Emily said.

"Of course it's me! You just called me."

"Sorry it's loud where you are."

Rory sighed and went outside. "I was in a restaurant with mom."

"Oh. Well um..."

"Is there anything you wanted because I'm spending the day with mom?" She said coldly.

"I heard about Logan and his accident. Is he ok? Are you back together?"

"He's ok and that's none of your business. I don't have to tell you anything about my life." Rory replied.

"Rory, I'm your grandmother. I have a right to be interested in your life."

"No grandma, you took that right away when you tried to ruin my mom's, and therefore my, life." She said shortly.

"Oh not this again! I've left you alone."

"I know you still feel the same about Luke so that's doesn't matter. Dad said everything he did, you told him to do." Rory said without meaning to.

"You've seen your dad?" Emily said perking up.

"Yes I have. Now I have to go. Bye grandma." Rory said and hung up. She cursed herself for letting that information slip. Lorelai met her outside.

"Everything ok?"

Rory sighed. "Yeh she was asking about Logan's accident and whether we were back together..." She said. "And I may have told her that I've been visting dad. I'm so stupid!"

"It's ok. Come on, let's forget about her and go back. Luke said we could have pie if we stop by his." Lorelai smiled.

Rory cheered up. "Ooooh he better have some apple pie left!"

They drove back to Stars Hollow and stopped by Luke's.

"Honey, we're back!" Lorelai joked as she walked through the door.

Luke smiled when he saw them. "Had a good day? Hey Rory!"

"Hey Luke! Yeh it was really nice. Mom took me where you took her on your first date. I hear it's your Luke's!" Rory smirked.

"Ah Sniffy's! Yep I know the people there, it's lovely." Luke smiled.

Rory smiled. "Yeh it was. Although the story on the menu was quite heartbreaking!"

Luke looked at Lorelai. "You made her read the menu too?"

Lorelai grinned. "Yep! Now where's our pie?"

Luke rolled his eyes and got two slices of apple pie for them and placed it infront of them. They ate them happily.

"Um...I thought I should let you know... Dad's getting out in a couple of months. He found out this week..." Rory said quietly.

Lorelai and Luke looked at each other.

"He's promised not to come anywhere near us but he said he would like to see me..." She carried on focusing her attention on her pie.

"Well, I guess that's good then..." Luke replied after a minute. "It's good he wants to see you. It shows he's changing."

"Yeh?" Rory said looking up.

"Yeh and so long as he stays away from me, I guess it won't be a problem." He said.

Rory looked at her mom. "Mom?"

Lorelai sighed. "I will never forgive him for what he did but he's your dad whether I like it or not. You're an adult now."

Rory nodded. "Thanks mom..." She said. "And Luke." She added giving a smile to Luke.

They finished up in the diner and collected Beth and then went back to the house to have a nice evening in.
