Howl's POV
I hadn't been in Republic City in two years but now that certain events had taken place it would be home for a while. I decide to go out and explore what it had to offer, pausing when I spotted Korra. I hadn't seen or talked to her since the last time I'd come and we had ended on good terms unlike the time before. I still wasn't completely over our break up and I hoped that now that I was going to be in the city she would grant me a second chance. I still loved her and I knew it had been my fault we'd broken up. I wanted to give it another shot. We had been happy together and I wanted that happiness back. I tapped her shoulder and she turned, her surprise evident before she smiled, shaking my hand. I guess I still didn't get a hug.
"Howl, what are you doing here?" She asked.
I shrugged. "Seeing what Republic City has to offer," I answered. "What about you?"
"Well it's a restaurant so..."
I chuckled, causing her to smile. Maybe our relationship wasn't a lost cause after all. "Listen, since we're both here, would you like to have dinner with me?"
She shifted. "I'm actually waiting for someone."
"Oh, Asami?" I asked. I knew the tech and her were best friends.
She opened her mouth to speak before her gaze shifted and I watched as her supervisor came over, giving her a chaste kiss before looking over to me, clearly surprised to see me. I saw his arm wrap around her and I looked over at my former partner, her eyes somewhat apologetic as I realized what was going on. They were together.
"Agent Cruz, it's been a while," he greeted. I nodded my head and he turned to look at Korra. "Have you picked a table?"
She shook her head. "Can you do it? I'll be there in a bit."
He smiled before nodding his head, telling me 'it had been good seeing me again.' I wanted nothing more than to beat the crap out of him. Korra looked at me, flinching when she saw my glare. So much for her not wanting a relationship.
"I thought you had issues." I finally managed.
"Howl..."
"So that's why you wouldn't give me a second chance?" I continued. "Because you were already sleeping with him?"
Her jaw clenched, as if she were insulted. "I don't owe you any explanations," she answered, making a move to leave but I grabbed her arm. "Let me go, Howl."
"I loved you, but that didn't matter to you, did it?" Of course not. She just wanted to be with that prick. How had I not seen it? "You want a promotion or something?"
"You don't know what you're talking about," Korra replied. "It isn't like that. Mako has been patient, he's been through hell and back for me."
"I would have done the same."
"Howl, you're hurting me," she said when my grip tightened.
"Let her go." I looked up to see Hotchner, his jaw clenched as he glared at me. My grip tightened slightly before I let go and he pulled her behind him, standing between us. "Don't you ever touch her again."
"This doesn't concern you."
"Korra is my girlfriend, she's my business. You touch her again against her will and I'll snap your arm off."
I scoffed. "What if she wants me to touch her?"
He launched toward me but Korra stood in front of him, placing her hand against his cheek, whispering for him to control himself. I flinched at that. She had never looked at me the way she did him.
"Leave Howl," she said her eyes pleading.
I looked between her and the supervisor, hating this. But I nodded. And then I left.
Korra's POV
After Howl had shown up and ruined the mood, I had told Mako to take us home. I hadn't wanted to hurt my former partner's feelings but he just didn't get it. I didn't like him, I don't think I ever did. It didn't work out but he just couldn't drop it. He tried forcing me to talk to him and although I could have easily pinned him to the wall I already felt bad. The look of hurt and disappointment on his face said it all but I just...I didn't love him. Hotch held my hand as he drove us back and said he'd order my favorite pizza and we could have a movie night. I nodded my head.
We arrived and I waited till we were inside before I kissed him. I could tell he was surprised at first but he reciprocated the gesture and I shrugged off my jacket before making a move to take his off. His lips separated from mine and I growled in frustration.
"Korra, what are you-"
"Don't ask," I whispered as I continued to kiss him, my hands unbuttoning his shirt as we stumbled into our room. "Please, just don't ask."
His hands came up to cup my face before going down to my waist, pulling my shirt up. I flinched, taking a shaky breath before I lifted the shirt up myself and tossed it somewhere. His forehead leaned against mine and we stayed this way for a moment, both a little out of breath. I let out a shaky breath before I pulled the shirt apart, my brow furrowing when I noticed white lines, scars, on his chest.
My hand went to touch one of them but I pulled it back. He took my hand and placed it against the one in the middle of his chest. I remembered him telling me he had scars of his own, what Foyet had done to him, but I had never seen them. His scars were precise, clean cuts. Mine were jagged and ugly, a horrible sight. A finger traced each of his scars and he held still before I placed my palm over his heart, looking up at him. His lips found mine once more and I fell back on the bed, him hovering over me and suddenly I wasn't comfortable anymore.
My breathing was shaky as Mako kissed my neck. I closed my eyes, reminding myself that it wasn't Unalaq. It was Mako. It was just Mako.
His hands caressed my waist, and I inhaled sharply. I could feel my chest constrict. Panic.
One hand disappeared, and I felt it caress my cheek, the thumb rubbing my cheek. I opened my eyes to see orbs of amber watching me.
"We don't have to do this."
"I want to," I whispered. "I'm...I just..."
"I'm not going to hurt you."
I looked into his amber eyes, seeing nothing but love and sincerity. I traced his jawline before kissing him, my hands removing his shirt. He chuckled, and I couldn't help but join in.
There was no pain. There were no bruises. There was no bloodied cuts and lacerations. There was only the feel of his skin sliding against mine. There was only my lips on his. There was only pure bliss, love. We were in our own world and for a moment I could convince myself that everything was going to be all right.
Mako's POV
I looked down at the girl laying next to me as I smiled while messing with her hair. She was so beautiful. How could she not see it? I placed a kiss on the top of her head and pulled back to find a pair of blue eyes watching me, shining bright with a light I'd never seen before. She grinned up at me, wrapping her arms around my torso and snuggling further into my chest, her eyes closing.
"Morning."
I chuckled. "Morning." I tilted my head. "I thought the morning was evil."
She opened one eye. "Usually. But, then again, this is the first morning I've woken up next to you."
I smiled and kissed the top of her head, as my hand slipped around her waist. She had a point. Even though she had been sleeping over, I'd usually wake up before she did and get up to do some chores. But last night had been one of the best nights I'd ever had and judging by the smile on Korra's face, she felt the same way. And I could tell she had no intentions of getting up anytime soon.
"I love you," I whispered, giving her another kiss.
She gave me a dreamy smile in return, her eyes closing as she nuzzled her head against my shoulder. "I love you too," Korra muttered as she drifted back off to sleep.
It would be a couple of hours before she woke up and I called Jessica to see how Jack was doing, letting them both know I'd pick him up soon. I managed to unclasp myself from Korra's hold, making sure she was covered as I prepared food for when she woke up. Not long after I saw her walk into the kitchen, wearing my oversized shirt and sleepily rubbing her eyes. I chuckled, giving her temple a kiss as I served her food. As soon as we finished she started kissing me again and I eagerly returned the gesture as we went back into our room. She pushed me onto the bed and I blinked as she straddled me with a laugh.
"Again?" I teased and she grinned before giving me a kiss and sliding off and snuggling close to me, letting out a sigh. "Everything alright?"
She gave me a soft sme and kissed my jaw. "Never better." A pause. "Thank you."
"For what?" She blushed and I chuckled again, wrapping my arms around her. "You're welcome."
Iroh's POV
I took a deep breath as I knocked on the youngest agent's office door before going inside. She looked up at me and I gave her a nervous smile. For weeks I had been meaning to talk to her about my girlfriend but I never got around to it...or I chickened out. I had gone out to pick a ring for the occasion but I didn't know exactly how to propose to her, the love of my life and mother to my child. I had meant to do it before Henry was born but then Korra came back and I never got around to it again but now it felt like the box I carried around was weighing me down and I just wanted to propose but couldn't figure out how. I thought that maybe the brunette, being her best friend, could help me.
"Hey Big Brother," she greeted as she picked up the files on her desk. "Is there something I can do for you?"
I blinked. Odd. She seemed...chipper. I quickly shook the thought out before nodding my head.
"Can we talk?"
The shrimp raised a brow, taking a seat before gesturing for me to do the same. "Is everything alright with Asami and Henry?"
"Yeah, they're both fine," I assured as I sat down. "In fact I actually came here to talk about Asami." She nodded her head, asking me to continue. "You're her best friend and I really need your advice for what I want to do. I've been meaning to for some time but I-"
"Just spit it out."
I took a deep breath. "I want to propose to Asami and I need your help."
The younger agent didn't say anything for a moment then raised a brow before getting up, grabbing some flyers and walking out. Had she not heard me? I stood up and followed her to Hotch's office, blocking her way.
"Korra, I'm not asking for your blessing just how to do it," I told her. She let out an irritated sigh. "Should I go to Air Temple island and do it there or maybe here at headquarters? Or I can-"
The door opened and our supervisor came out. Agent Morgan handed him a set of files before telling him to meet her at her office before walking away. What the hell?!
"Can you believe her?" I asked.
He didn't reply and I turned to see him staring at his girlfriend as she left. I groaned. Really? What happened to the 'no displays of affection at headquarters' rule? I called his name and he reluctantly gave me his attention.
"Your girlfriend is no help at all."
He crossed his arms, leaning against the frame. "How so?"
"I asked her for advice on how to propose to Asami and she just walked out on me," I explained exasperated. I sighed, shaking my head. "Do you have any ideas?"
"Uhh..."
"Come on, help me out."
"What did Korra say again?"
"She walked away."
He smiled and patted my shoulder before heading over toward Korra's office. I groaned. Seriously?
Lin's POV
I let out a sigh as I sat on the bench in front of my mother's grave. It had been three weeks. Three long weeks of accepting that she was gone and wouldn't be coming back. The team had kept tabs on me. Korra and Zuko visited the most often. The kid must have been starting to cook at home because each time she came she brought something for Opal and I. My niece was slowly getting back into the rhythm of things and she wasn't as quiet as she had been at first. I think having the kid come over and talk to her helped some. My hands clasped under my chin as I heard someone approach, knowing who it was.
He didn't say anything for a moment, just stood there and I appreciated the moment of silence. Rossi sat next to me and I glanced over to see different emotions flickering in his eyes. My mother and he had been friends since they were teenagers. I knew her death had taken its toll on him.
"I had a feeling I'd find you here," he finally said. I flinched and nodded. "Have you told her yet?"
"Told her what?" I answered though I knew what he meant.
"That you're coming back to the team."
I sighed. "I don't have to tell her," I replied quietly. "She already knows."
I knew she did.
Asami's POV
I raised a brow as I looked inside my best friend's office, seeing Hotch wrap his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek. Korra smiled and I blinked. If there was anyone who was professional around here aside from Rossi it was Korra. I mean, Mako was too but for her he was different. I went and knocked on her door causing her to turn and give him a quick kiss before asking me to come in. Our supervisor gave me a nod before leaving and I noticed Korra smiling in his direction. Well she was...happy?
"What is that about?" I finally ask.
"Hmmm?"
"Did I interrupt you two?" She laughed and shook her head. "Not that I'm not happy for you but mind explaining the corny smile?"
The younger agent leaned against her seat, brow raised but smile still intact. "Can't I be happy?"
"Of course," I answered. That's all I ever wanted for her, and she deserved it after everything she'd been through. "But you never let Hotch..." Realization hit me and I placed a hand over my mouth, trying to fight back a chuckle. "You two finally..."
Korra's cheeks burned a bright red and I laughed, taking that as a confirmation. "So, what was it like?"
"...I'm not discussing that with you during work hours," she answered, standing up.
"Lunch time?" I called after her but she continued to walk away as I chuckled.
The rest of the day seemed to drag on until our supervisor called us all to the conference room. I could see Korra stiffen when she saw her former boyfriend. But Agent Cruz wasn't the only one present. Lin was back and I waited for everyone to welcome her before hesitantly doing the same. She gave me a nod and I couldn't help but sigh in relief. Maybe she didn't hate me as much as I thought.
Lin announced her return as Director and because the team would be an agent short the Bureau had called in the South Pole detective. I could see that our supervisor didn't like it one bit but he had no say in the matter. As soon as the business was concluded we all made a move to leave when my boyfriend spoke up, causing our attention to shift to him.
"I just-I, uh, I wanted to welcome our new Director and Agent Howl to the team," he began, his voice wavering. I saw Korra smirk. Something was up. Something was definitely up. "But I didn't ask you all to stay to hear me state the obvious but rather uh...be part of what I'm about to do."
"Get to it!" My best friend hissed.
He growled before his attention went to me. "Asami, you've made me the happiest man since I met you," Iroh continued. "You're the mother of my child and I thought about a million ways to do this but figured I should just say it in front of our friends."
I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to say. He came around to where I was and went down on one knee, pulling out a ring case from his pocket.
"Asami Sato, will you marry me?"
I didn't even bother to stop the tears that came as I nodded my head and kissed him. Everyone cheered and congratulated us as he put the ring on my finger. Spirits help me, I loved this man.
Korra's POV
I couldn't help but laugh as Mako pinned me down on the couch, kissing my cheek repeatedly. My parents had stopped by earlier to take Jack to the zoo and we'd told them we'd meet them there but at the rate things were going I doubted that would happen. I somehow managed to flip our positions and I gave him a deep kiss, his arms wrapped around me. Spirits, this man was insane, not that I could really complain. I loved being close to him and I found myself cuddling with him more than I had before. I knew every detail of his body and he knew mine as well. And I was okay with that.
I sighed as I nuzzled my head against his chest. The last couple of weeks we'd spent moving all our things from his old house to the new one plus some of my stuff, including Naga. Jack was very fond of my fur ball and she usually slept with him at night. Traitor, not that I was one to talk.
There was a knock on the door and I let out an irritated sigh before standing up to see who had interrupted our moment of peace. I was surprised to see that it was Eska though I remembered giving her and Asami my knew address. She looked a little shaken up and I asked her to come in. Mako sat up on the couch and I sat back down next to him, placing a hand over my cousin's.
"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked. Had something happened?
She nodded her had quickly looking up at me. "My father came to see me," my older cousin revealed. I felt my blood run cold before feeling my boyfriend's arm wrap around me in a protective manner. "He wanted me to give you a message."
"He wants you to meet him in one of the cabins, the ones he owns."
I could feel my chest constrict. When I was older, a teenager, he'd take me up to the cabins on weekends. He'd strip me of my clothing, not allowing me to wear anything so that he could take advantage whenever he felt like it. I would scream for help but no one ever came. We were too far out for anyone to hear us. I was never safe in his home, but it was made all the more apparent in those cabins.
"Is he going to be alone?" I finally asked.
"Korra, you can't be thinking of going-"
"I'm not going there alone," I clarified to Hotch. "We're all going. The whole team is. It's the only way to catch him once and for all."
"You don't have to go," he persisted.
"He threatened Desna and I," Eska explained hesitantly. "If you don't go...he'll kill one of us. I can't lose Desna."
I shook my head, giving her hand a squeeze. "Nothing is going to happen to either of you, we'll protect you," I assured before looking over at Mako. "Get the team together. It's time to end this. On my terms."
Soon all the team was ready and Hotch called for backup to replace Iroh and Asami who were going to be up in the mountains being our eyes and ears, tracing any minimal movement. I was paired up with the SWAT leader and I made my way to the one house I knew had been my uncle's favorite as the rest of the team checked the others. Mako wanted to be with me but I knew he'd be distracted trying to protect me. I ordered the agent to go around the back door before I went inside, through the front entrance. I could feel the pounding in my ears as I crept further in until I heard the floor squeak and I turned to find the devil himself, his shirt stained with blood, a knife in his hand.
"Drop it," I ordered him.
"If it makes you feel better, he didn't even see it coming."
My jaw clenched and I went over to him, smacking his face with my gun, causing him to fall on the floor and drop the weapon. I kicked away the knife as he cursed, my gun aimed at his head. After a moment his gaze met mine and his signature smirked appeared. That damn smirk that I hated.
"So you've caught me. Now what?"
"You're going back to jail."
The animal chuckled again, shaking his head. "Where's the fun in that?" I didn't answer, my finger hovering over the trigger. If he so much as moved... "Tell me, Korra, what would you like to do to me?"
I knew what he was doing. I knew he liked to play. "I'd like to get my gun," I began.
"Mhmm."
"Put it in your mouth and pull the trigger." If only...
"No, no, no. It's much better to do it slowly, to take your time," he answered. I knew that's what he liked, to enjoy the pain. After all, I survived two of his most brutal torture sessions. "All my life I've been meticulous about finishing what I started and it bothers me that I haven't finished what I've started with you."
"And you won't you sick bastard," I snapped.
He chuckled again. "Tell me, sweetheart, do you still dream about me? Because I dream about you every night, just imagining my hands exploring that wonderful body of yours."
His voice turned husky and I knew what was going through his mind. He always took pictures when he was done with me and sometimes I'd watch him as he looked at them, knowing he was getting excited. And then another round would ensue.
"I don't even think about you, Unalaq. Want to know why?" I answered. I was going to play his game, because this time I knew I'd win. "Because I share my bed with Hotch and he knows me better than you ever will."
I could see his jaw flex before he brushed off my words, as if they were absurd. "You're lying."
"Am I?" His eye twitched and my lips pulled at the corner. "That's right, Unalaq. I'm not yours. I've never was. Mako makes me feel good about myself. He's the part of myself that I like the most. And he's a lot better in bed than you could ever be."
He didn't even try to hide his anger and I knew I had gotten under his skin. "You little bitch." His whole body was tensed, prepared to move at the slightest disturbance, and I relished in his rage. Because this time, he wasn't the one in control.
"I don't know, Unalaq. From where I'm standing...you're the bitch."
Unalaq's POV
I was surprised by my niece's new found courage. All the years she spent with me and I had never seen that look in her eyes and I knew I was losing my control over her. She needed to be taught a lesson, and I was more than happy to do it. I couldn't believe she had strayed from me, that she had been able to actually allow another man to touch her. I thought I had made my claim on her clear. She was mine. That was something I would not tolerate. I would make her mine again and when I did I would win.
"How about we make a deal, sweetheart," I began. Her hold on her gun didn't waver but I knew she was listening. "Lets do this the old fashioned way. Just you and me. No guns. No knives. No weapons."
I saw a flicker of emotion in her eyes and I smirked. After a moment she pulled out the magazine of the gun, tossing it to one side of the room before letting the bullet in the barrel fall before doing the same to the remainder of the gun. I knew she couldn't resist. She brought her arms up and we circled each other, waiting for the other to make their move.
"I know you like hitting women," she began. "What about when they hit back?"
I tskd. "Haven't you learned anything from me, precious? That's what turns me on."
Without warning she landed a kick to my side making me curse as I stabilized myself before I launched my own attack. She grunted on the impact but her left hook caught me by surprise knocking me down on the ground. I brought a hand to lip, seeing the blood and I chuckled. This was going to be fun. I rammed her against the wall my face hovering over hers. I leaned into give her a kiss when she kneed my side and headbutted me, breaking my nose. I growled. I'd had enough with these games.
Korra swung at me but I grabbed her arm, giving her sides and left side of the face a few good punches before throwing her against the floor, straddling her. I saw the moment of panic in her eyes as I started to undo the bulletproof vest but she once again managed to get in a good hit, knocking me to the e squirmed away from the vest, making a move to stand when I kicked her causing her to roll a few feet before standing and heading to the door. She wouldn't get away. Not again.
I rammed her against the living room window, feeling the glass scrape against my skin as we fell through. I stood up, seeing her unconscious and I grinned. Finally, she would be mine again. I knelt down next to her, brushing away the shattered glass before opening up her blouse. My mouth attached to her neck and my hands brushed her sides before I pulled away. No reaction. I tapped her cheek, nothing. She was out cold. I went to unbuckle my belt but seeing her there, not moving...it wasn't enough. I started to shake her, slapping her even but nothing. I let out a growl as I heard people approach and I got up, fixing myself.
There was no fun if there was no reactions to watch and savor. And I wouldn't get out in time if I tried to take her with me.
She had evaded me once again. But not for long. Never for long.
Mako's POV
I placed a hand over Korra's, listening to the rhythmic sound of her heartbeat from the machine next to me. When I had found her she had been unconscious and it looked like she had been thrown out the window, judging by the shattered glass around her. I had picked her up and rushed her to the hospital where she was now being treated. Rossi had stayed behind to study the scene and it seemed that Korra had fought Unalaq before we arrived and it had ended when she was thrown out. I lifted her hand up and gave it a soft kiss on the back as I watched her chest rise and fall, the tubes under her nose helping her breathe. The left part of her face was bruised and I knew the bastard had gotten a few good hits in.
Asami and Howl were outside waiting for an update though I had told the South Pole detective to get lost. Even our senior tech had tried but he wouldn't budge, which irritated me to no end. I had allowed my girlfriend's best friend to see her for a moment as I called Jessica to check up on Jack. But as soon as I talked to my son, I went back to be next to Korra.
I must have dozed off because when my eyes opened she was beginning to stir, her eyes slowly opening. I soothed her, telling her to rest but she shook her head, managing to open her eyes halfway before muttering something incoherent.
"Shh," I soothed. "Relax, you're safe."
"I told him," she managed. "I told him...I was with you."
"Korra, relax." She shook her head and I sighed, holding her hand as I sat on the bed, kissing her temple. "You need to rest, you took a hit to the head."
"Unalaq," she mumbled. "I told Unalaq...he didn't have power over me...anymore...he never did."
I gave her temple another kiss, caressing her cheek with my free hand. "Rest, we'll talk when you're better, okay?"
She made a sound before she stilled, her breathing slowing once again. I gave her forehead a kiss and stood from the bed, letting the doctor know she had woken up before going to the waiting room. Asami stood as she spotted me and I saw Howl do the same.
"How is she?" she asked.
"She woke up," I told her. "The doctor says if she continues to be stable, I can take her home tomorrow."
The tech let out a sigh of relief. "Can I see her?"
I nodded my head and Howl made a move to go after her but I cut him off. He had to be dreaming if he thought I'd let him see my girlfriend. "Not you."
"I want to make sure she's okay," he answered.
"She is. Now go."
"Korra is my friend."
"And my girlfriend," I reminded him. "So get lost."
He didn't move so I went toe to toe with him. I had to made it clear he wasn't welcome here. Howl held my gaze before absently nodding and turning to leave. Once I made sure he was gone I went back to my girlfriend, finding her just like I left her, sound asleep. Asami smiled at me as she ran her hair soothingly through Korra's hair. She would be okay, I'd make sure of it.
Korra's POV
I turned my head towards the door seeing my best friend walk inside. I gave her a smile and she did the same before sitting down on the bed next to me. Hotch had brought me home two days ago and I had to admit I was happy to finally be out of the hospital. Jack spent most of his time in the room with me and I enjoyed the little tyke's company. Mako had taken a leave of absence for the week of bed rest I had and I was happy to be able to spend some time with him, though I slept for most of it, the pain killers helping numb whatever pain I felt in my arm and head. The doctors said it was a good thing that I had a hard head or else there would have been cerebral bleeding and I could've died. Guess I owed my dad. I managed to sit up a little more, hissing when I jostled my shoulder. Most of my left side was scratched up from the glass.
"How are you feeling?" Asami asked as she helped make me more comfortable.
"Better," I answered. "I can move my arm around more. Doctor says it should only be a few weeks before it's healed." She nodded in response and I tilted my head, seeing something in her eyes... "Is everything okay with you?"
My best friend didn't answer right away, simple ran her hand through my hair before placing it over mine. "I had a lot of time while you were away to think...think about all the things I wish I could've done differently," she finally said quietly. "I should have helped you sooner. I was older. You were just a kid."
I felt a knot in my throat. Two years ago when my mom had found out about the abuse I had gotten a glimpse of how much keeping my secret affected the older woman. Even now her voice sounded so broken, so tired... This was unfamiliar to me.
"Asami..."
"You suffered so much because I didn't get you out sooner. He could have killed you."
"Asami, it isn't your fault. I don't blame you." It wasn't her fault. She wasn't to blame. Why couldn't she see it?
"You should."
"It's because of you that I'm even alive, or did you forget that?" I replied. My hand squeezed hers making her look up at me. "You saved me, 'Sami. You kept me going when all I wanted was to give up. I'd be dead, if I hadn't had a sister like you."
It was true. Asami had saved me from dying twice. She had been there to pull me back. She was the reason why I hadn't given up all those years ago, why I was still alive today. If she hasn't been in the picture... I wouldn't be either.
"Look at what he did to you."
"It doesn't matter anymore, 'Sami," I told her. "I told him what I needed to. That I had been with Mako. He doesn't matter anymore."
"I'll make sure he gets what he deserves," Asami replied. "I promise."
I shook my head. "He isn't important, 'Sami. He never was."
She sighed and I smiled at her before Mako came inside. "I'm sorry Asami, but visiting hours are over."
I let out an irritated sigh and she laughed at that, leaning down to kiss my forehead. "Feel better. I'll drop by tomorrow with Henry."
I nodded and my boyfriend got up to lead her out as I made myself comfortable, letting out a yawn. Damn him for knowing me so well. Soon enough he was back, a cup of water and a pill on each hand. Reluctantly I opened my mouth and he chuckled as he sat me up to drink the glass of water. When I finished he kissed my temple laying down next to me.
"Are my parents still mad at you?" I asked.
"Mad is an understatement."
I laughed and he grumbled. Mom and Dad weren't too happy aboutMako keeping my stay in the hospital a secret. I had told him before we split up that if anything happened to me I didn't want them to know until I was out, which he had. Needless to say they were mad at the both of us though they still came to visit.
"Is Asami okay?" He asked after a moment. "It looked like she had a lot on her mind."
I sighed. "She blames herself for not getting me out sooner," I replied. "Asami is the only one is ever confided in and even then I didn't give details... And until recently I didn't realize how much it really affected her."
He hummed in response. "You two are an interesting pair."
I nodded. "She's my best friend, my sister...I'd do anything for her...protect her from anything."
Hotch raised a brow. "Even if she broke the law," he asked in a teasing tone as he leaned in for a kiss.
I chuckled and kissed him. "Especially if she broke the law."
We both laughed, despite the fact we both knew I wasn't joking. After everything Asami had done for me, I owed her everything I could possibly do to protect her.
Unalaq's POV
I watched the happy couple from a distance, waiting, plotting. For some time now I had been watching them, taking notes of when my lovely niece would be alone and when her supervisor would go out on runs. At first they had gone together but after a while Korra had decided to stay with the little boy, Jack. I grinned as I imagined how the next hour would go. Soon the agent would leave, leaving both his son and the chocolate skinned woman alone. All alone.
For weeks I had imagined how this night would go. I would make her mine again. She had escaped me too many times recently. But not this time. Tonight I would feel her skin sliding against mine, feel what it was like to be inside her, get to hear her scream and moan and cry my name in various states and mixtures of pain and ecstasy. But the boy would be in the next room, so perhaps the screaming could wait for our next time. My lips curled as I watch the agent kiss what was mine before he took off down the street. Korra watched for a moment before she stiffened, and her eyes started to search her surroundings. I smiled. Smart girl.
Click.
I paused mid-step, lifting my hands in surrender, slowly turning to see the last person I would've expected. I huffed. Of all the days to get caught.
"Don't move."
"Now, Ms. Sato," I began. "Can't this arrest wait another hour or so? I had plans for tonight." Oh did I have such wonderful plans.
Her eyes narrowed and she pressed the gun against my chest, the metal digging into my ribs. "Who said I was here to arrest you?"
I frowned. "Then what is this, exactly?"
There was a slight twitch to the woman's lips, like what was about to happen was going to be very exciting and she was having a hard time fighting off the anticipation. "You know, Sato is actually my mother's last name," the raven woman answered. "My father's last name is Doyle. Hiroshi Patrick Doyle." She paused, stepping closer to me. "Tonigt, Unalaq, I've come as a Doyle."
I didn't have time to answer as she shoved me against the brick wall of the alley, cuffing my wrists. If I wasn't mistaken, that had been a threat.
