Chapter 23
Last time on Was it Fate or Destiny?:
Sting looked at her and smiled, a true smile that he thought was impossible, he did feel happy and proud that he finally got something out that he wasn't able to in a long time that maybe he was starting to find himself slowly by slowly. Lucy smiled back at him and pulled him into a hug and kissed his forehand and at that moment Sting buried his head in her chest holding her close and he cried.
Sting had cried for more than 10 minutes straight and he was a bit embarrassed but he was feeling a bit better, tomorrow was her birthday and he felt like maybe this year would be different in terms of how he handled it but he didn't have much hope for that. Lucy was standing in the river cooling off and silently crying to herself but she didn't want Sting to know. Sting was still on the grass laying down and looking up at the sky watching as the sun was starting to make it's way to setting and making it evening. It was now 6 and they hadn't done much since the story but Sting didn't care nor mind and Lucy was just tired to even think about what they would have to do next.
"I think we should find home for now and see what we can do tomorrow." Sting said loud enough for her to hear him
"Yeah, I think that might be best." Lucy spoke softly , trying to hide the sadness in her voice
Sting got up and looked at her. She was still wearing his top and he was still in nothing but his boxers. He turned to get his pants but they weren't quite dry yet so he left them there and went towards Lucy, knowing and sensing that something was wrong and he couldn't help but feel like it was all because of him.
"I'm going to ask once and you can't say nothing because you and I both know that I know something's wrong and you can't hide it from me."
"I wasn't going to but I just thought I could keep it away from you for just a bit longer."
"Nice try Luce but it didn't quite work."
Lucy turned to face him and gave him a smile despite the fact tears were streaming down her face.
"I was just thinking that you must have had a pretty rough childhood if that's not the whole story."
Sting looked at her and scratch the back of his head not willing to met her eyes. Lucy took a step closer to him knowing that she was at the advantage her and he wasn't. She brought both hands to his face and made him look at her.
"You cry over everything, don't you?"
"Yeah, sort of."
She laughed a little when she said that and he smiled but she didn't let go knowing he was just trying to distract her.
"I guess it was pretty rough but life like that I guess."
"You grew up to fast Sting."
"I guess I did but I don't regret it."
"I know."
"So are you going to stop crying?"
"I just need to cry for one last thing."
"What now?"
"You put your head in my boobs for too long and now they sort of hurt."
Sting blushed at this but he couldn't help it. The moment he did that and the moment Lucy did those actions with the kiss on the forehead, it just brought back memories of him and his mum, he didn't mean to do anything perverted to Lucy.
"I'm sorry about that."
"Meh. It was in the moment and I could tell it reminded you of something."
"It sort of did."
"You don't have to tell me anything ok. Now let's grab our un dry clothes, find some wood, berries and maybe a cave so sleep in for the night before it gets dark."
"I like that plan."
They walked towards their clothes, enjoying the last warm rays of the sun as it started to set. Once getting their clothes, Sting looked around for any signs of a cave anywhere and just decide to go in one direction and hope for the best. Sting was walking ahead with Lucy right behind him.
"You know, I think this is crazy." Lucy spoke
"Why do you say that?"
"I feel like this isn't real you know, like their is 1 in 100 chances of something like this happening to me or you. Sometimes I feel like it's a punishment from skipping school or something. Like do you ever feel like there is a greater force controlling us like we don't have a choice for anything."
Sting stopped walking and turned to face Lucy, causing her to bump into him. He just looking at her wondering, not speaking, just wondering.
"What? Everyone thinks like this at one point in their life, I mean come one haven't you ever looked back at something and thought why? or looked at something in the present and thought why?"
"Like this situation."
"Exactly or why you like this guy when he is so out of your league."
Sting laughed a little as they continued to just stand their. Lucy blushed but it couldn't be seen in the dull light they were in. The stars hadn't started to appear yet the sun was almost fully set. Sting was about to turn and continue walking but Lucy caught his arm and made him turn to face her.
"I don't know if it's the atmosphere or the fact that you finally opened up to me or this whole day of doing things I would never find myself doing. All I know is you've changed me bit by bit, maybe not a lot or maybe even not at all but I don't really care because I'm happy right now and right here."
Lucy looked him straight in the eye, holding his hands and Sting didn't do anything to stop her.
"I love that you've been there for me and I love that you're my friend but I kinda hate that as well. I feel a bit woozy for some odd reason but I'll ignore that because I have to say this. Sting I really like you and I'm sick of hiding it. I kinda want more than friendship and I really want to kiss you because early in the kitchen when we were talking and you looked like you were going to kiss me, I was pissed when you didn't."
Lucy got on her tippy toes and swung her hands around his neck and started leaning in. Sting was frozen on the spot but his body moved on it's on so his arms were on her waist and he was leaning towards her. In the back ground helicopter choppers were moving towards the pair as they shared a kiss and then pulled away. Sting was in control again and Lucy was on the floor.
"Hey, over here. We're over here." Sting yelled and jumped until the headlights were on them.
He got down and got Lucy in his arms princess style and waited for them to come down and get them. Clearly she was dehydrated and in shock. It all just decided to kick in now.
On the bright side we're safe now and can finally go back home and rest. Thanks for everything Lucy, I'll see you next week. Sting thought
